    How'd you play?

+3 75 today with two doubles and 2 birdies, 2 doubles and an eagle. Eagle came on 18. Par 5 and an okay drives left me 270 to the center of the green. Ripped a beautiful 3 wood and it lipped out! Left me 18 inches for an eagle!

    How'd you play?

Dang is feels good to post here again. Between coaching baseball, moving, and the usual life events I haven’t been able to golf nearly as much as I’d like to this year. That being said @Lacassem sent me a message yesterday afternoon if I could sneak out for 9 this morning before work. Schedule allowed it so of we went! Played fairly well for my lack of practice and play time. Shot a 43 and had no real major issues other than a few stray swings, and I followed mark into a pond on a par 3. Highlight hole was #6. Hit a great 5-wood just about as far as you can take it before a protected marsh area and hit a great 8 iron from there. 2 putt par. (EDIT: Arccos appears to have had to much to drink at the turn and the labels are a wee bit wonky on the saved hole) Best drive of the year so far on #9….. even if it was cart path aided!

  3. Hard to believe got my first round in what I used to call my playing partner @GolfSpy_BOSbut between moves and other personal life stuff we have not. Hopefully more soon 42 with 4 pars, 4 bogeys and a double to finish. Driving was good, 3 wood was , wedges from pretty much anywhere were and putting finally got on track. No 3 putts and started making the 5' or less stuff again....so how did a shoot a +6 you ask? Piss poor irons. Had penalties on both par 3's because apparently my ball was thirsty...wasn't even a @Yellow Ball...Would have felt like a much nicer round if I had those 2 shots back. Had several heavy handed approach shots and just really bad alignment issues from 120-150 after great tee shots. Was just dropping my back shoulder. Another 9 would have been nice. Besides those few miss que's the swing felt great, maybe it will all come together next round.

  4. I’ve been continuing to struggle with my wedge game, and it’s been over 100* heat index down here for the last month it seems, so I have no desire to work on it. I’m already having second thoughts, but I placed this order yesterday… a 56* CBX2 56* and a Smart Sole chipper. I traded in a Smart Sole S wedge under playability and a Halo XL 4 iron, so it only cost me $60 out of pocket. The plan is to take my 54* & 58* out, and just concentrate on the 56*. That gets me down to 13 clubs, and I can add the Smart Sole C. I’m hoping the freaking chipper gets me back the 5 or 6 shots per round I’m losing with my now perfected chunk and skull routine. Desperate times, boys.

  5. Titleist is doing a fittng day especially for this group, with 30 minute one on one fittings for irons and wedges. Unfortunately the TSR will not be in the fittng cart just yet so they won't be able to see that...even I couldn't pull those strings....but don't think I didn't try...ha To go along with the Tee Times, here are your fitting slots. I'm going to post a link in the PM threaed for each of you to click on and go to sign up for your assigned times. Any questions just ask me there. 6. ... What an awesome contest from MGS! The winner is going to be a very happy golfer.

  7. ... Yup, grew up in NC so very familiar with the humidity and have no idea how we had 4 a day football practices in August. It is monsoon season here in AZ and it has been very humid this last week but that can change in a day. Playing today at 3pm at 47% humidity so at least twice the normal summer % and 4 times the winter normal. But still quite a bit less than you guys at 78%. Playing winter golf when it is 80* with 9% humidity is a little slice of heaven.

  8. Great memory!! Those Puma shoes have been absolutely amazing! I actually shot my best 9 holes ever in those shoes at +1. I was sad it was a men's league and I couldn't complete the back 9. I'd be down for any type of competition! I still use a lot of the previous challenges we've had as practice rounds. A buddy and I did the can't reuse it until all the others are used challenge are a par 3 course not that long ago.

  9. I can tell you my original Precision Pro I tested for them and MGS how ever many moons ago is still kicking and holds its own against any of them. I think I am on my 4th battery. But I play a lot and shoot a lot on the range so mine is well used

    How'd you play?

About ready to give up the game after last night's round. I was playing a match against a good friend and started off on fire. Great up and down par save on the first hole followed by back to back 10 foot birdies. On the fourth hole I chunked an iron short of the green on a par 3 only to chip in for my third straight birdie. My opponent's response was something along the lines of "F- you!". Three up after four holes. Fast forward a few holes and I was three under par after 11 and up four in the match. Here are my remaining holes: 12: three putt bogey 13: par 3 chunked wedge for a bogey 14: water off the tee; double 15: woods off the tee; double 16: wrong hole off the tee; bogey 17: PAR! 18: woods off the tee; bogey I ended up losing the match on the 18th hole. Overall my splits were 34-43 for a 77 and feeling like I was run over by a Mack truck. The last thing I said to everyone before I left? "See you Saturday."

  11. It is my understanding that if you’re a previous CCC4 weekly swag bag competition winner, such as winning a sweat pair of Puma shoes (I think???), you’re ineligible for this competition and your entry will be withdrawn. I kid! I kid! But, I do think a friendly 18 hole match ply competition should be arranged between the winner and @GolfSpy_BOS

  12. Love the “phorged” thought. And yes in a crazy year CCC4 was a fantastic crutch. He wouldn’t have won though without my serious assistance in the partner challenge

Got out this morning for an early morning 9 with Bacon Boyz! Took it easy just dropping the ball 30-50 yards from green then chip and putt for 1st 5 holes. Last 4 stretched it out a bit up to 75 yards. Everything was good, no knee issues except walking downhill was a bit uncomfortable. Great to get out and solve the Worlds problems with the Boyz at breakfast! Going out again Tuesday.

  15. I had driver out of fescue when we were doing as part of the challenges! Somehow got it out and almost onto the green. Did you go backwards with your 3W, or just power it right up that face Holey Moley style? OMG you're right!! I'm sooo sorry!! It's been forever scared into your memory

  16. Just so you know, there is a very specific Maryland State Law that states: "It's illegal to take Jim Beam out of the state of Maryland any Sunday, after having played golf with MGS Members" All such liquor must be handed over to the MIRACC (Maryland Institute of Rob Alcohol Consumption Committee) Didn't want you to be caught off guard

  18. Getting back to working on changes from my last lesson. Been guilty of playing too much and not being as focused on making the changes I need to make when I'm on the range. Trying to get to a point where my face in a lot more stable through impact. My "natural" swing is more of a rolling release, which is fine when my timing is on, but is miserable when it's not. My coach wants me to feel my right arm coming underneath more through the hit. Figured out I really need to work on my pivot/turn to get this working correctly, otherwise I hit blocks or thin fades if my trail hip doesn't get out of the way. Practiced with my Super Hybrid, which I almost never do, and hit some really solid ones that hit the fence at the end of the range on a couple hops. I was very happy with that. Just need to be able to take this to the course now.

Owen and I played the front nine at River Heights this morning. Bit of a rush again to get there and started on time so it took me a few holes to get settled. I forgot to grab a scorecard so we decided to go match play. After a triple on hole one I was down one, then bogeyed two but Owen parred so I was quickly down two. A three putt triple on three put me down three and Owen was cracking jokes . We both hit poor tee shots on four and got bogey so at least I didn't lose a hole! On five Owen had a bad tee shot and a chunked chip but I three putted again and we split the hole. On six we had good tee shots and good approaches but I hit the green on my chip while Owen overshot. I got par to his bogey; now I'm back within two. On the short par three seventh I hit a little runner 7 iron onto the green and made par while Owen went long again into the river. Now I'm just one back. On eight we took different approaches but got the same results; par for both of us. On nine I hit my drive if the day and Owen proceeds to hit his drive of the day, about twenty yards past mine. We both hit poor chips that missed the green and both had to chip again. His putt just burned the edge while mine was just short, like all my putts today. We halved that one and he won one up. He was tracking in his head and shot +5, while Shot Scope says I was +11. We really like these early morning rounds but working to midnight really makes it difficult. Sixty five minutes to play nine?? Sign me up!

  20. ... I am not a morning person and rarely play before noon in the winter but so many here play early. Summer twilite at my winter course is virtually empty but mornings are sold out from open to around 10am. IN winter if I don't wake up at midnight and book a twilite time they are gone by the time I wake up so I set my alarm, book a time and go back to sleep. I get the golfers teeing off in the first hour but after that I would not want to play 18 with it getting hotter each hole and end my round in the hottest hour. I start around 3 which admittedly is the hottest time of the day but finish as the sun is setting and not only does the temperature drop, when the sun starts to hit the horizon it feels at least 10* cooler. So I am cooling off as I finish playing. Obviously I am in the minority as booking a twilite round the day you want to play is pretty easy but booking a morning round for the next day is just about impossible.

  23. First off thanks to Cobra for being awesome to the forum over the years from the full club tests to just drivers. Secondly I want to than Rob for being a great guy and helping get opportunities like this. Going to have to go with the Tec X because even though I like to think I can hit the ball better than I do I am still a higher handicap player and need to give myself a better chance to score better Thomas but most call me Tom or Tommy and I’m from Orwigsburg, PA Currently gaming Sub70 699 pro irons Handicap-20 to 25 been shooting lower scores but my app I use hasn’t lowered it much due to not enough rounds to lower my hcp Will you agree to patriciate in discussions on the forum?? Oh heck yea this place is my only source of social media and I’ve done multiple reviews for the forum where I do my best to post videos and pictures often to keep people interested in what I test or use. couldn’t fit that I’m right handed on this picture dang phone wasn’t let me fit it all in

  24. COBRA! - Just amazing support and opportunities to the MGS folks here throughout the years - thanks for this chance. So I might be off here, but checking the site, it looked like I had to go to custom for chance at Left Handed configuration. I could be doing something wrong and that wouldn't surprise me. I chose the Forged Tec as I like the smaller off set as well as the thinner top line. I don't need much help with distance, which the X would add just a hair more.

  25. Finally the GG near me got Z-Star Diamond in, so I went and grabbed a dozen. Ballnamic recommended this for me with 4 separate data sets so let's see if it's any better than the regular Z.

  26. Swung by DSG today after work and picked up a brick of MaxFli Tour's. They're still on sale and it's too good of a deal to pass up for such a great ball. Hopefully the weather will settle down soon from high humidity/heat or storms and I can get out and play them.

  29. See my reply to Juspoole about 3 or 4 replies above, about the LH custom selection. If a LH wins, they will just be sumbmitting their specs directly to us and we will forward to Cobra for the build. So in short, yes a LH will be able to have the FT-X

  30. Lets give it a try here. I am in between the King Forget Tec One Lenght irons And The Forget tec Irons. I have always played the regular irons and have really been interested on the OL irons, due to the possibility of simplifying my set up and swing. I do think that Cobra has come a long ways and I would be very excited to see how their Irons play for my game. I live in Southgate, Michigan. I am currently playing the PXG 0211 DC I am playing at a 18 handicap. Heck yeah, I will participate in those discussions about the irons.
    5 points
  31. Yes, I noticed that too when I was looking at the link beofre posting. But not to worry the winner will be able submit their specs and we will submit to Cobra for them to build directly. We just thought it'd be fun for everyone to select and show wha they would choose and why. And of course the winner won't be held to the specs they posted.

  32. Yep the humidity is torrid. I have been playing Dew Sweeper rounds out just at daylight before the old fart mens leagues tee off at 7:30---- Lately starting around 6:30 or so I can hurry some and make the turn to #10 before they tee off. Lots of times if I did drag and practice some at the split as we call it I will go down 13 instead of 8 so I will end up with a 13 hole round. The other day I guess it was too humid and a bunch of them did not show so I ended up playing 27. But I am done and in the house by 10 or 10:30 at the worst. I take my truck cooler with me with plenty of cold water and Pedelyte. I love it no one holds me up. Did not play today they had a big ladies invitational involving 7 different clubs. They decided wisely because of the weather to do a shotgun start at 7:15. I helped with set up and was not really needed so i rode my but home. Tomorrow is Shootout Saturday and it starts at 9AM so if we have some slow pokes it will be hot and we may get finished by 1:30. We may have a lot pull out for that reason to begin with. We had a full field signed up last week but had 7 teams (28 players) pull out I suppose because of the humidity

  33. Love the Lowcountry, but absolutely hate the summer heat here. I’ll never get used to it. Meanwhile, after much research and reading of reviews, just purchased the Shot Scope H4 and Mizuno’s T22 wedges at 55°/13 and 59°/5. Most excited about the 59°/5 purchase, and hopeful on the H4 data helping me improve my game at my weakest areas thru practice.

  34. As with everything it seems with golf, things aren’t standard. A shaft labeled as 50gr could actually be anywhere from the 40 gram range into the 60 gram range.

  35. * Gotta go with the "X"!! .. Used to have a set of Cobra King OS irons with Recoil shafts and I still regret trading them (even posted about it in a "Club 'Ho Regret" thread ). Shudda kept them... .. Anyway, reading the description of the "X" these definitely seem well-suited for me .. I need the extra forgiveness / GI qualities and want help getting more distance. And better dispersion, too, if we can get all that cool stuff in one slick package .. Really like hollow body irons - first "real" set was TaylorMade R9s. Really like forged irons, too - tried to game the Apex CF16s - and while I could hit them ok enough finally admitted to myself it was more vanity and I needed to go more GI. * Chuck on Long Island, NY * PXG 0211 DC (MMT 60g/A) * Unofficial 20 - don't maintain a handicap. .. Average recreational bogey golfer constantly working on my swing through lessons and practice .. ball striking very sloooowly but steadily improving .. shoot anywhere in the 90s and been trending more lo 90s. * Absolutely agree to discussing the irons!! .. Have been an active forum member for several years - and a product tester/reviewer - and really enjoy talking about and learning about golf equipment! **NOTE: I selected two upcharge options for graphite shafts and my preferred grips - will very happily cover the upcharge amounts if chosen!!! Thx! * NOTE 2: Length = No Change (not -1/4")

    How'd you play?

3 at the best based on the types of shots I had. Most of them were pretty straight forward and had lots of green to work with. That’s where I get in trouble with my wedges because I always force myself to carry the ball further than I should.

  40. I'm not sure what @DawgDaddy is doing to his Bushnells. I've had my Tour V3 for 7 years and it's still going strong. I got it as a birthday present from my wife, but she started using it when we rode together... then she put it in her bag so she could use it when she plays with the ladies. I got a GPS. The only problem with the Bushnell is that it eats batteries; have to replace every 5-6 months, so at least 15 batteries so far. But my wife uses it 4 rounds a week, all year long weather permitting. I just don't need a laser; if we are playing together, she will check the distance on par 3's so I know where the pin is in relation to my GPS distances.

  41. 1) Iron Choice: Forged Tec X for forgiveness. This year more than any other, irons have been a struggle. 2) Name/City: Blake/Akron, OH 3) Current Irons: Bridgestone Tour B JGR HF2 4) Handicap: ~12 5) More than willing to participate in discussions, write reviews, or whatever is required. * For whatever reason, only one shaft option was available in X? I'd rather have the Modus3 Tour 120's. For whatever reason, only one shaft option was available in X? I'd rather have the Modus3 Tour 120's.

  42. If I remember correctly you grew up down here? Unfortunately if you book a 3pm time in the summer in this area, it’s not really cooling down much at all before sunset ( around 8pm now). The big difference here as opposed to Arizona, as I’m sure you know is the humidity. It’s been brutal down here recently.

  43. I’m going out the same time tomorrow in my Saturday league. We’re the first group and thankfully I’m with 3 fast players. Hopefully we’re done under 4 hours. We play two flights, and the slow players in both have really screwed things up for us. We got the first tee times (7am) every week for years, but because of their slow pace of play we’ve recently lost that perk. The rangers and pro shop had been warning us for quite a while to pick up our pace, but you know how that works with the “Harrumph… I’m a member crowd”. What makes it even more embarrassing is that the Women’s league was rightfully moved ahead of us in the pecking order. They play much quicker, and deserve to go out ahead of us.

  45. I would love to see the fine point details in these contacts. Questions i have are. Minimum events to play? Salary of pay guarantees, social media and speaking clauses, out clauses for both sides, top players even in name guaranteed no relegation? Other guarantees outside of the money. Ownership stakes? So much more. Unfortunately until someone gets the boot or leaves i don't we will see any of it. The fact guys are signing 5 year deals means this this isn't going to go away anytime soon and with it's steep growth curve there must be done finer details in the contract that work one way or another.
    4 points
  46. But from what I saw on the GC depending on their contracts they will only be required to play like the 15 or so main events but will be "encouraged" to play I guess the combined Asian events. That was my take on it. I have noticed on the GC that they have been saying more and more about the LIV lately. I found that rather strange since everyone knows the GC and NBC are tools of the PGAT. LOL last night they even showed Trump hitting balls with Bryson.

  47. Ohh please the humanity Callaway had their chance with Hogan one time and messed that up. Stripped the company but kept the Iconic Apex name. Turns my stomach every time I see a Callaway shovel marked "Apex". I had a set of Callaway "Apex" shovels in the shop courtesy of my late friend Bear. We traded or something do not know exactly how I got them. A guy I know plays those things. He was wanting a set for his son and called me. I told him I have a set kinda rough as a night in the county jail but he could get them for the right price as in free. Come get them out of my way. He felt bad about that and did give me $50. IMHO they were junk with the XP-95 shafts. Bear as SOP for him had put on a brand new set of Tour Wraps and had that guy not been looking for a set I was going to pull the grips and scrap the irons Sorry got up on the soapbox this morning but Callaway Apex affects me like that
