Not me, but a shoutout to my lovely wife. She insisted I take her out to dinner last night. Yesterday, she won the summer-long double elimination tournament 1UP, never losing a match, to become the 2022 Columbia Point Ladies Match Play Champion... successfully defending her title. She had to give her opponent a stroke on each of the 14 hardest holes.

  3. Picked up the car and actually got to "unveil" it... which because we didn't have the baby seat and all that meant Allyssa wasn't there and needless to say she was not happy when she found out about it... Either way so far car has been great and had a good run around with it. Definitely something to get use to but really enjoy it so far and given the eco/brake regen system its efficiency is way up. Couldn't be happier! Plus it has a cool inboard 3d display which is unique.

It ‘‘twas a tale of two 9’s” first nine was a +7, 42, couldn’t buy a par, and then the second 9 was a -1, 35… with many near misses on birdy putts. For a total of 77, so turned that frown upside down, haha moral of todays round is to understand that it’s just a game, and not let emotions ruin a nice outing with your mates. Your game can return in a mere second, even tho it might not. But either way, just let it roll off your back. It’s just a game…

  5. I am so excited that I haven't even had the chance to take pictures yet... I just bought a set of Ben Hogan Apex Blades 3i-9i, plus the equalizer wedge with the Apex 4 shafts plus the 3,4,and 5 woods along with an ogio bag and a bunch of other random clubs and a chainsaw for $32 The guy said these were his first clubs he bought in the 80s and that he was never really able to hit them and they show it... they are in beautiful condition.

Couple days removed from my round I have some follow up with thoughts and so on. So I played pretty well. Had a couple awful blow up holes, but overall feel like the game is coming around. Had 7 pars and a birdie. By no means lit it up, however learning a few things and have to say now that I have played the course a couple times it helps a lot as well. Knowing where to miss or where to bail helps out so much. My goal for this course will be to break into the 70's before seasons end. I have shot 84, 87, 84 so I know it is within reach. Today is a practice day and given that putting, chipping have actually been really on point I'll continue my driving and approach play. That being said after spending that hour with GC Quad and getting my numbers for my irons it helps so much. Way way more confidence in yardages and knowing what club to pull and when.

Another stink-o day today. Team event of 3 best net. I was the A player and stunk it up, but the team played well enough to take 2nd of 7 teams and to win 3 team skins. Our opening hole (and first skin) was a short par 3. I hit my ball just past the pin and it spun back to 4 inches below the hole for a tap in birdie. The D player (with a stroke) rolls in a 25 foot putt for birdie, net one. Add in a par from one of the other players and we hole out with a net score of 6 and started the round with the lead at 3 under. By the 6th hole, we're at 8 under. We start counting our chickens before they hatch....I lose my game somewhere along the line, the B player is no help, and suddenly we're depending on our C and D players. We go from 8 under to as low as 3 under, fight our way back to 7 under for the lead again, only to give 2 back on the final hole. We're still in the lead, but last team picks up 2 on their final hole and we take 2nd.

  9. ... Some Boomers love to talk about these generations and how lame they are. I was at a Sprouts (like Whole Foods) today and a young Hispanic woman with 3 kids about 10, 7 and 4 so a handful, was trying to get $10 back and her debit or credit card would not OK the cash. So John the cashier maybe mid to late 20's pulls out his wallet with a $20 and a $10 in it and gives the lady the $10. Clearly she needed it because she just blushed and said "thank you so much". I asked him if that comes out of his pocket or the will the store reimburse him and he said the store will not reimburse him but it just seemed like the right thing to do. After paying with my credit card I asked him if he could give me two $10's for a $20 and then gave him back his $10 and told him I would pay for the lady. Now he blushed and said "thank you" to which I replied "No thank you because I can spare it but have a feeling you can't so that was very generous on your part". ... So win-win-win as John and I get to split the Karma credit, the lady gets $10 she needed for her kids but most importantly John gave me some ammunition next time I hear a Boomer complain about the GenZ/Millennial generations and how lame they are.

Played Greystone CC, Founders Course today for the first time. They host the Regions Tradition annually, which is one of the majors on the champions tour. It was in great shape and lots of fun. I played ok, shot 87. Had 2 birdies though, one on the toughest hole on the course, made a 40 footer. Other birdie was 18, which is always fun to end on a birdie. Driving today was my downfall, only hit 4 fairways and 4 GIR, most of that due to poor drives. However, I putted great, having only 26 putts on the day.

Continuing to have some issues with my swing and ball striking of late. 44 on the front, but turned it around somewhat on the back with a 39. Not sure what's really going on, but I do know that I'm frustrated with it and that's likely feeding the issue. Just need to get out of my own way and letting the swing happen, I guess. I did hit some really nice shots today on the back, so...I got that going for me.

  14. Update time! Played the other day and posted in the how did you play thread, but wanted to give a better insight into the Approach wedge or 50* it is so so versatile. I tried to make an effort to use it a bit more around the greens and man was it fun. I also used the 9 for a more bump and run style chip and they really inspire confidence. The trajectory and spin on them are consistent and stable which allows me to be more aggressive with my chips and really go for it. I also had a beautiful 7 iron layup that was one of the best hits I've had. Add in a couple 5 irons off the tee on some of the tricky/placement holes and these irons are starting to really come into their own with my game. Still love the feel, still love the flight and they continue to change colors a bit... not as quickly as I had thought, but still getting a bit more dull. Finally I get so many comments on them. The one guy was't a fan of the raw finish as he did not love that new irons could look so old, but the other guy I played with raved about them. Overall they get a lot of looks and a lot of questions which is fun as they are really a unknown brand here!

    Whats your best joke?

... Well if we are gonna do bad puns (aren't they all bad?) here is a loooong bad pun for you: A church had a handyman for many years and he finally passed away. He did so many jobs the church decided to break them up and hire several people to do them all. The church put an ad in the newspaper to hire a church bell ringer. After a day or two the priest heard a knock at the front door. Upon opening the door, he sees a young man. The young fellow says, “Yes, I’m here for the bell ringing position.” The priest asks, “Do you have any experience?” “No,” he responds, “but I’m a fast learner.” So the priest decides to try him out. The priest takes the young man in tow and up the stairs to the bell tower they go. The priest figures he ought to show him how everything works. As they reach the top of the stairs, the priest turns around just in time to see the young man trip, stumble, stumble, stumble and go head first into the bell and fall down the shaft. The priest rushes down but it’s too late and the priest calls the police. As the ambulance is picking up the body the police officer is filling out the death report. After filling out the gender, approximate age, and physical description of the young man the office askes the priest, “What was the young man’s name?” The priest is shocked to realize during their entire conversation he never asked the man’s name so he replies to the officer, “You know, I never asked him his name, but his face rings a bell.” The church replaces the ad in the paper and there comes a knock at the door. The priest opens the door and almost faints. There’s the same young man standing there. Noticing the priest’s surprise, the young man quickly says, “Of father, I’m sorry to surprise you but the other fellow was my twin brother.” The priest recovers and the young man says, “I’m here for the bell ringing job.” Once again, the priest asks if he has any experience and he doesn’t so the priest says we might as well go up the bell tower and I can show you how everything works. They talk as they climb the stairs and at the top the priest turns around and to his shock, he sees this young man trip and he stumbles all the way to the bell and smacks it head first and down the shaft he goes. The priest in disbelief rushes down but, once again, it’s too late. The call is made and the police arrive and start taking down information. They fill out all the basic information and then turn to the priest to ask for the young man’s name. The priest is horrified to realize he did not ask this guy’s name either. In response to the policeman’s inquiry, “I’m sorry, I didn’t get his name, but he’s a dead ringer for his brother.”

Owen and I played the back nine again at River Heights today. We were going to play the front but it was backing up already so we jumped to the back. Good thing we did; I finally got my par on 14! I've now gotten par on every hole on this course this year. We played pretty okay today. Owen was solid and got the only birdie of the day. LOL, he had the drive of the day where he swung out of his shoes and barely grazed the top of the ball, sending it inches down the fairway. I was happy with my play but I was inconsistent. Putter came and went, and my irons were good. I had more chunks today than I've had in a while with both irons and wedges. Driver was a little erratic which left me scrambling on second shots. Trying to play smart backfired when I kept screwing up punches and chips back to the fairway. Owen went +9 45 and I had +12 48. A couple of trees had leaves that were starting to turn; season is drawing to a close.

Fun day on Vacation. 45/42 87 at Edisto Plantation course in South Carolina. Usually when I'm down this way I play with my FIL, but he isn't feeling great so I grabbed the second tee time of the day and went out. Played reasonably well considering I played a course I've never seen before with rental clubs. (Wilson D9 SGI). The clubs were okay. Looked super clunky to me after playing MP60s for the last few months. But I hit them well enough, I just had a hard time judging distance with them. The course was fun. Tight, lots of water(I donated a few balls), with an interesting layout. It was a nice easy walk and I had a great time playing solo. 3 hours walking, without pushing too hard, though I'm definitely beat now.

  23. I took a quick look on ironfinder.com and it looks like they are the original 1972 model. https://www.ironfinder.com/Individual-Irons/hogan/apex_(on_back)-72.htm Those irons look phenomenal and with a little cleaning, they'll look spectacular. The faces look pristine!

  24. Gratuitous photo dump, they need some tlc for sure but I think they look in very good condition. From a quick search, they appear to be the original 1972 model Apex (The irons at least). The only person that I know for knowledge of old irons is @BIG STU, Are you able to confirm Stu?

  28. Played a fundraiser scramble tournament today and the course it was held at is where Truespec happens to live. Since I got my new irons in, I went to go thank the fitter (as I mentioned in my Truespec thread, I've known her for a few years now) and she said she had the new TSR heads and asked if I wanted to try them. Told her I wanted to try an Autoflex so she built me one in my current head. She said it's probably going to be good for me because I have a slow/smooth tempo. She's fit me for two Titleist drivers in the past and now irons, so she pretty much knows what works for me at this point. At first, swinging the "stiff" flex, I wasn't really impressed. It was spinning a bunch and I didn't gain any distance, but it didn't really want to go anywhere but straight. Then she said let's try the "x" that I posted in the picture and I have to say the hype is real. Club speed didn't really increase. I got faster as I warmed up, but still in the 105 range. I might've lost speed since I'm not playing as much, so maybe I did gain. I didn't get my gamer out to measure against because I didn't want to turn it into a free fitting and be "that guy" I was consistently in the 152-155 ball speed range spinning at 2200 ish and seeing 280 on quad hitting ProVs. The best part tho was that it felt effortless. Like I didn't have to put much into it at all, and it was just being sent. What's most interesting was it was a stock head. I remember your thread @edingc and specifically the many iterations of head weights you had to play with to get the swing weight dialed in. Told her I'll be back when they get the Brava shaft so I can try them side by side. I could probably just slap one in and call it a day, but at that price I want to do my due diligence, and also make sure I'm in the right head, though I really like the Rogue ST LS. Also the kicks are . BOA is pretty cool and makes slipping your shoes on and off a breeze! Was concerned these are "wide" and I'm skinny all the way down to my feet, but they fit nicely. Easily my most comfortable shoe, hope they make more colorways with the BOA laces.

    Maxfli Tour

I'm still loving the Tour, it does everything I look for in a ball. The most eye opening thing is how well it sticks to the green on approach shots. I'm not traditionally a higher spin player and with the MaxFli's I've seen several shots end up close to the pitch mark. I think my biggest problem with the ball is convincing my buddies they should try them. I think MaxFli and quality don't go together in the minds of golfers who don't really dig in to the equipment side of the game. I've about talked myself blue in the face trying to convince some of the guys at work they should give them a try. I think one guy might pick up some, otherwise I might have to let them try a couple of mine to convince them that this is a great ball.

  36. Actually… a true “shot of the day” was a simple 49 yd wedge over a trap to a very thin slice of the green, to about a foot, for a kick in bird. this shot of course followed one of my fairway wood shots (cobra king SZ) 3 wood, that I used to rescue a severely pulled (but long) drive on a par 5. It was an uphill/side hill shot that needed about 50 yards of a cut to land back into the fairway, and miss the 2 bunkers… P.S. did I tell you I love my fairway woods?
