  1. Playing 9 for the first since getting over COVID. Drove the the ball really well, for me. No ugly slices leading to lost balls. No 3 putts, on newly aerated greens, which was very pleasing. My chipping on the other hand was an absolute disaster. Lots of very short duffs. I know what practice I will be doing. I was in the sand twice and got out very well both times. It was an absolutely perfect autumn morning.

    How'd you play?

Best round in 2 years. Didn't quite break 80 (really really should have, but thats golf) and shot an 80. Plus for the first time in goodness knows when I didn't loose my golf ball! Was a tough track and we played from the back tees, but it was still a ton of fun. Played with a buddy of mine who is now using my old i210's and this was his 2nd time on a big boy course (need a official handicap to play on one) and he had a great front 9, but got a little tired on the back. However he got his first ever birdie on 18! Was such a cool moment for him. Hit a solid drive in the middle, went over the tree with a 6 iron and onto the green then sank a downhill 20 foot putt for birdie. The course was in great shape and is a really fun challenge. Lots of variety in the holes and good variety in the par 3 lengths. Greens were stupid fast and everytime I hit one slow it would still be right at the hole. Was good fun and hope to get back maybe for one more before the seasons end and finally crack 80 this season!

  3. Recently broke 90 for my first time a few months ago. Been playing a ton better after reading The Four Foundations of Golf... Last night went out with my buddy after work and was having the best 9 of my life and totally collapsed on 9 lol... I have to share this disaster. Cannot do anything but laugh at it! Topped my tee shot... 7I was great then dunked my PW just to the left of the green in the drink...

Got in a whopping 5 holes today! Back started to feel tight on 3 and pain started on 4/5 and I called it when it stated to hurt while putting I said I’m done. Last round of 2022 in the books and I couldn’t even finish

  5. PXG is giving away their 0211 FWs for $89 each w/free shipping and the 60 day 100% money back guarantee. I picked up a 5 wood tonight, because I don’t have one, and even though I stink with FWs, at this price worst case scenario is I beat the hell out of this one trying to improve?

Shot like crap at out member guest event, like I always do- maybe I need to start entering every thing that ever happens so I can get used to it- problem with golf is that a little tightness from self imposed pressure doesn’t let me swing fully relaxed. And one iota of a miss doesn’t translate well- it wasn’t horrible, but it’s frustrating when my normal daily rounds with my buddies is so easy, but anytime it becomes important, I freeze up a bit… grrrr

  7. Hello fellow NE spies! We have locked down a date and I booked a few extra players hoping someone wants to jump in for a round! We will be playing at the Crumpin-Fox Golf Club in Bernardston, MA on October 16th. I've got 3 tee-times reserved with a few open slots, so let me know if you have any interest in joining in! If you need a little eye candy... it should look something like this while we're there!

    How'd you play?

Yea, my problem is I have 2 swings, an iron swing and a driver swing. when my driver was working it felt like Freddy looks, long and smooth- now it just feels like a train wreck in slow motion… im probably trying to swing too fast at the top, instead of just letting it fall into the slot, and then powering thru the ball, with smoothness, rather than probably being jerky and rushing the swing

    How'd you play?

suddenly can’t hit the driver to save my life, but iron play is sparkling… every drive is either a dead pull, a deadly slice, or a darn near whiff. The last 2 months I’ve been crushing the drives, until this week. It’s like I’ve never swung a driver in my life. shot what seemed to be a horrid round, yet scored a 78. Thank goodness for for the irons- putter is not dropping many birdies. But they’re all tap in 2- putts. so obviously I’m doing a steep out to in with the driver that’s creating the severe slices, so I just need to spend a bucket with the driver only and straighten it out!!!

Took months to get it after my fitting but finally in my bag The one drawback, the back end i too narrow to scoop up a missed putt Hopefully there won’t be any to scoop… Anxious to give the super stroke claw grip a try ive be putting claw/pencil for several year - will be interesting to use a flat grip made for it

  16. Had the night to myself so I enjoyed the beautiful weather with a couple of large buckets at the range after work. I had another really good session, continuing a nice run to end the season. I've been focusing on a lot of little things lately, with my sequence being: Shoulder alignment check. My tendency is to close my shoulders. 60/60/100 feel for pressure at setup, top of backswing and finish. Pressure in the inner balls of feet, slightly favoring toes, especially in longer clubs. Straight right arm feeling in the backswing with left thumb pointing at sky. Complete my backswing with a full shoulder turn. Right shoulder stays back to start the downswing. Butt of club to 3 o'clock on downswing. "Swoosh" comes at/after the ball, which is only possible if I don't spin out from the top. Maintain balance throughout swing to finish. Seems like a lot, but things are just clicking now. Lots of really solid shots, even with driver. Spent the last 20 or so balls going all out and had some great results. With a slight breeze at my back I carried a few drivers over the back fence at 285 or so, and covered the 189 flag several times with my 8 iron. I'd almost never swing that fully on course, but it's great mental work to show myself I can swing fast and still control the ball.

  18. ... Paired up with this "played high school" golfer in his early 40's that just bombed it off the tee yesterday. 5'9" and maybe 165 with a buggy whip swing and was hitting his 3 wood 20+ yds past my driver. On one hole I saw him use driver but lost it in the clouds and I hit a really good drive about 275 (desert roll included). After hitting my approach I started walking to the green looking on both sides for his ball and saw him drive his cart down the fairway to a ball a good 50 yds ahead. We calculated a 340 yd drive. A no doubt the shot of the day.

    top three mistakes

Getting the thread back on topic: I am not a club maker but any means, but for awhile I dabbled in doing my own reshafting. Biggest mistakes were: Using the correct amount of heat - know when to use a torch vs heat gun. I ruined a couple shafts and adapters with too much heat Not caring about swing weight - I never even had a swing weight scale and when I put some swapped shafts in my irons I messed everything up. I thought it was as simple as taking out one shaft and putting in another. I was wrong If you are bending a putter loft/lie, do so BEFORE you put on a new grip.

Sometimes we all have to look in the mirror and ask "What am I doing to help grow the forum" MGS Forum is never going to be WRX. It is never going to be THP. We are working on carving out our own existence and re-branding the forum. It is going to take time, but I think with the mod group we have now we are on the right path.

One of the houses we moved in to when I was a kid had a coal bin .. and yeah a lotta black dust! .. in the basement, but someone else previously had put in an oil-fired central furnace. And presumably the concrete floor, too! The walls in that room were still that older rough stone mix, though, and would crumble if you rubbed it .. so my Dad and I covered the inside with ThoroSeal, I think it was called, to well seal from outside moisture seepage and form a "skin" to hold the stone mix in place. Fun times

  30. I gamed a G10 for many years and then upgraded to a G410 Plus. I used that for a couple years and about a year ago was chosen to test the Sub70 849. The 849 played about identical to the G410 for me, no loss in distance or dispersion. I knew I would get more interest in selling the G410 so I kept the 849 in the bag.

  32. I’m on my second Ping driver. I traded a Ping G30 for G400 Max. Before that I used to game TaylorMade. The last TM driver I had was the original RBZ but I didn’t get along with it and traded it in for the G30. The best TM driver I ever had though was the R5 Dual Type D. My TM driver history: Burner Plus, SuperSteel, 300 series, R5 Dual, RBZ. Somewhere in there I flirted with a Spalding TopFlite Thunder Heat Driver.

  34. Arrived today. I have no comparison to anything else but it seems to be pretty well built. It held up through my first session of Super speed protocol --swinging it as hard as I could with the heavy weight (A surprising 122 mph) I haven't weighted anything yet so nothing about the actual weight though I will say that the weights are freshly machined with SHARP! threads. On another note, I now see why it says to do this every other day. 21 swings as hard as you can dominant side and 18 more on non dominant is a surprisingly good little workout. Also surprising, my left hand swing maxed out at 110. It was ugly as all hell, but it was fast.

    How'd you play?

Beautiful fall morning in Central FL - 64 degrees at 7am Tee Time. Walked 18 holes, hadn't played in a week, itching to play. Been working on Saguto.golf teaching method, I'm liking it. 3 over for 18 with no birdies, will definitely have to hit the range tomorrow. Surprisingly course was fairly dried out after all the rain from Hurricane Ian, but three days of no rain helped. Nice morning to walk!

  37. We finally had a nice enough day where I was able to put the net up and hit some balls. The last few days have brought winds in the 15-20 mph range and that's just not too good for the Spornia. I've been doing a lot of dry swinging in the yard while wearing the Swing Jacket and occasionally hitting some whiffle balls. I've been dealing with the shanks and finding out that the jacket helps me to relax and turn more aggressively, not my usual hit at the ball habit. I hit about 50 balls today and only hit 2 shanks. I was happy that I was hitting plastic balls, as one made a bee line right at my wife's car. Other than that, I hit the ball well. It wasn't perfect, but I feel more confident in my ability to hit the ball well. I've been out swinging while wearing it at least 4 times the past week and will continue to do so for a while going forward. You gotta enjoy the grind.

Watching Couples swing is awesome! Never saw an overhead shot of a pro like in Couples video. One thing is so clear, Couples head never moves through the swing. It stays just behind the ball during take away through downswing. Then follows through. What a freaking swing! The overhead shot gives you an idea of ball position as well. weight on his left side at address, beautiful takeaway and same swing with all clubs. Thanks for sharing video!

  39. I'll say these are the best set they've ever made. This was the turning point where TaylorMade became a preeminent brand on Tour. Top players were choosing TM over Mizuno, Titleist and Ping as well some others in the graveyard of phenomenal brands (MacGregor, Wilson & Hogan).

  40. More of a justification or a reasoning than a theory.. haha. Anything to help me sleep at night. Like I said, I have the same issue/miss sometimes, and that Driver affliction almost ALWAYS is accompanied by solid iron shots. Especially with short irons and wedges - which essentially require that path and face orientation. My guess is that when you get to your longer irons... you are also seeing that "left of target / slight fade" flight.. maybe not - but it is what I get. And even the longer irons are "playable" in my case, because they start left and fall back to the target line, or just right of it... however about a 1/2 to full club shorter than my square swing - depending on the club. But in a driver... easier to pull it even further on the outside in path, and harder to square the face - and/or ball spin is more accentuated by the driver than in the irons. So off it goes... dead left or flailing right. So the theory is that the same swing is afflicting the whole bag, just not as evident the further down the bag I go. And usually, when I correct the driver.. my irons consistency starts feeling out of joint. I'm in constant search of that One Swing... just not sure it even exists.

  42. I shared this story in the How Did You Play, but it is worth repeating. I have started playing with a guy who just started playing in August and caught the bug hard! We played 18 today at a tough course and because he can hit pretty long he joined us from the Whites (back tees). We played with another guy who was a 24 or so hdcp. It was a good litmus test for him. Anyway the first 7 or 8 holes were pretty good. Of course some horrific shots, but thats golf. The middle holes were a struggle with big curves on his shots, however come 17 and 18 he put it together and made a good bogey on 17 and made his first ever big boy birdie on 18. It's golf, its tough and sucks a lot of the time, but those small good shots and holes keep us coming back for more! (found out he went to his home course and range for 2 hours after to work on his game... guy is all in!) Edit: @Golfspy_TCB I had 4 Net birdies, not 6 sorry! I should have been more clear. Popped on 2 and had 2 other natural birdies.

Our swings don’t change from shot to shot, what change is our ability to compensate for our faults. When we can do a good job of timing the compensation we will have our better results and when we can’t we get our not so good to bad shots. When looking at fixing a “problem” in the swing one has to look at the cause not the symptom. Not getting hips and shoulders open at impact is a symptom and actually not a fault but results from a compensation. It’s hard to tell especially with the size of the video but what I see is that your turn is more of a false turn. Your arms separate from your body early and you move the left hip out instead of the right hip back. What happens is that you lift your arms to the top and get them too deep. Your shallowing move is dipping the right shoulder and not a pressure shift to the left with some bend at the waist and the left hip going back. You get a little stuck as a result and have to easily extend to hit and throw the arms at the ball. Some of this is typical with bigger guys. Look at Kenny Perry as an example. Drills to work on would be out a club across your chest, turn then add left bend. This will be where you want to be in the backswing. From the feel pressure move into left foot with adding some additional left bend. From here you want to feel you bend at the waist and your hips move back a little. Then feel your left hip move back and up as you turn to the ball. Here’s a drill too

So rather than just cherry picking one swing I took the time to just film almost every swing of a session and cut it together with some shot tracer. I'm through my lesson package and I think I'm mostly shallowing and on path (which is what 3 of 6 lessons ended up being were about). My weight transfer mostly seems to be good, and I like where my abbreviated backswing is at. I'm not thrilled with where my arms, hands, hips, and shoulders are at impact but it's something I'm working on. Any tips or drills to open up my hips and shoulders more at impact and to keep my elbows a little tighter toward my torso. I'm seeing a lot of heel strike (which will be apparent in this video) on Driver.

  46. They start with a new wedge out if the wrapper. Due to being exposed to air and water, there is very light spotty rust by the end of the test; which takes about a month perform. Rust does not impact spin; rust is generally desired to reduce glare. See the below video where rust and spin are discussed:

Yup, I remember the coal bins, the fire and coal delivery which all neighborhood kids loved to watch. My Dad and my uncle dug out the basement (it was dirt) had concrete floor pored and then converted to oil furnace. I’m figuring 1950-1952. My cousins and me obviously helped . Different age and time.

Mostly excited about being able to go 2.5 or 3 degrees flat. My Epic Flash is a rocket launcher but it's impossible to not draw the ball. Should be able to get 1.5 or 2 degrees flatter than the EF on the PXG.
