Day 3 King Island Ocean Dunes Second trip here, still stunning. Tougher day with the wind getting up. Shot about 16 over playing off 8, not too bad in the conditions 10th hole. Was playing 190 yards to the pin. 6 iron 30 feet past the pin. Straight down wind, normal 6 iron is about 160 Great course that gets overshadowed by it’s neighbour up the road. A must play if you go to King Island7 points -

Day 4 Cape Wickham Arrived late afternoon and the light put on a bit of a show. Stayed on course, the accommodation had a reasonably good view Golf was stunning. My game was variable. Rough start after some nervous swings, but got better as the round went on. The amazing views make it difficult to concentrate on your game. One of my best shots of the day, 8 iron to 8 feet and made the putt. Greens were firm but holding a lot more than last time I was here View from the 10th tee And the result, twenty feet from the pin on the green, 338 yard par 4. My mate was about 8 feet past the hole. He made eagle, tap in birdie for me Another of my highlights, 7 wood back into the wind on 17, 170 yards to 8 feet. Big breaking putt for birdie Drove it onto the beach on 18, unfortunately couldn’t find it so didn’t get to play one off the sand6 points -
It's currently 30° and snowing here in Wisconsin, but that didn't stop my golf course from being in the news this morning. A plane carrying 3 people and 56 rescue dogs crash landed on the course this morning. Thankfully all humans and canines escaped with only minor injuries. One story mentioned over 300 gallons of jet fuel being spilled, but it sounds like most of it evaporated quickly and the rest settled into a low area where the ground was frozen. Here's the news story from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. A plane with multiple people and over 50 dogs crashed onto the Western Lakes Golf Club in Pewaukee Tuesday morning. Lake Country Fire & Rescue responded to a call of a downed aircraft around 9:04 a.m., according to Assistant Chief Matthew Haerter. The first unit arrived five minutes later to find a twin engine plane on the third hole. The course is at W287 N1963 Oakton Road. Haerter said the plane crashed onto the course, hit a section of trees, lost its wings and spilled fuel as it slid across a water feature on the course and came to rest in another section of trees and snow. The plane was reportedly flying from New Orleans to Waukesha to deliver 56 dogs to the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha. Three adults were also on the plane and were assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to a local trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries. Some of the 56 dogs sustained injuries but their conditions were not given. Because HAWS was preparing to receive the dogs at the Waukesha County airport, they were quickly on scene to collect the dogs, and they are being treated at HAWS. The Department of Natural Resources and the Waukesha County Hazmat are on the scene assessing the extent of the fuel spill because it involves a wetland area. No other information was available Tuesday morning on the extent of the spill, but there is not believed to be any danger to the community at this time. Additionally, Haerter praised the efforts of the golf club staff who reported the crash and assisted the passengers on the plane and first responders upon arrival. It is unclear what caused the plane to go down. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.4 points

Had to read the entire thread to get a better idea of the questions to answer 1) something does not compute when leaving a shaft that weighs in at about 120 and you are going to a 95 g shaft the swing weights should go down by say 2 ish points. If we assume , yes i know what happens when we do that, you should see about a D1 D0 with a standard grip. So a D2.5 is not to far off the beaten path. 2) if you decided to go with a slightly larger grip that is your choice by either preference or by the fit. Depending on the grip used in the demo cart which is typically a tour velvet type grip, the difference may required a 4 ish gram tip weight. You probably wont get to it exactly but the feel will be comparable. 3) as posted, don’t get to hung up on the swing weight. You were striping D2.5 if it feels good swinging then you should be ok. From a build stand point a swing weight point in the either direction is in a spec as most folks can’t feel the difference of 3. 4) adding weight to the head will only really start to move the CoG when you approach 10 g4 points

JerryB's "Gettin' Better" thread
Kenny B and 2 others reacted to Tom the Golf Nut for a topic
I agree if you already are an established player and have a repeatable swing but like you stated when you are still working on fundamentals (trying to build that repeatable swing, create muscle memory, and work on swing planes in the early stages of your development of your golf swing), you should stay on the same plane. I can tell you for a fact in my case, I had some issues. The Optishot base is 2" high and then add in the Jag Man Joe's better hitting turf and it was 2-1/2" higher than my feet. Playing and practicing on the simulator all winter raised my swing up that much. With a1.68" diameter golf ball sitting on the ground in the spring, I was sending worm burners down the course. Obviously if the ball was on a tee, I was ok. After a week or two of trying to get my swing back down to the ball I built the platform and spent several weeks getting back to normal. But to your point, I also practice on a 4' x 4' matt that I place on 3/4" plywood and then elevate one side or another to practice downhill, sidehill and uphill shots. But I am still practicing with my feet and ball on the same surface just at a different angle.3 points -

Liv Golf Central Thread: Events and News
Undershooter and 2 others reacted to GolfSpy_APH for a topic
We are all for healthy debate here. LIV is a divisive topic and one that there is very little middle ground on. Greg Norman has repeatedly lied to his LIV players about various things whether it was in his pitch to get them to go or where they currently stand in OWGR. Had Norman been correct in everything he told them the LIV portion of play would just be an add on to their schedule and you would have seen LIV players at regular events, including the FedEx Cup. They would also have OWGR points already secured. I am not a LIV fan, but can see where some come from and enjoy it. It definitely is not for me, however a large portion of that is to do with how they present themselves. Very arrogant, bullish, pushy and abrasive. I believe these are all things within Gregs personality has rubbed off on the players. There is a lot of evidence of the wrong or improper things Greg has said or told players he has brought over and I feel for the early adopters of LIV who have now been cast aside for larger names. That being said reports are swirling that Greg could be on the outs: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10055328-report-greg-norman-could-be-out-as-liv-golf-ceo-ex-taylormade-exec-mark-king-linked So maybe that will help their brand if it comes true. LIV is denying these reports for the record. Also PGA Tour has done nothing wrong not allowing those players to play on their tour. The rules were simple, you can go and play LIV if you want. Nobody is stopping you, however don't expect to come back. For me where I have hesitation in reading your posts is one, you simply only post in this thread. Fair enough if this is the only golf topic that interests you here, however the forum has a lot more to offer and I would encourage you to seek out other threads if you have other golfing areas of interests. Second and is fine as you can state your opinion, however there is little support to arguments made. Whether it is continually on the Hideki train saying he will leave and create his own Japanese team or ignoring what has been reported, shown (see Greg Normans plea at congress) along with other things that are highly speculative or not even being reported on. Again which you can post, that is up to you, however it gives me hesitation in reading them. I will say that on this forum this conversation around LIV has been very civil and for the most part productive even if the same conversations keep happening over and over. I wouldn't want to know the response or reception you would receive if you posted many of these same things on other golfing forums. I am very hesitant to post in this thread anymore. I have stated where I stand and will chime in when necessary as I am now, however would encourage anyone to do a search whether in this thread or on google to see if they can find some answers prior to posting what could be false absolute statements. Opinions are welcomed, but recognize with a topic like LIV there are going to be strong feelings on both sides so don't expect the warm and cuddly responses that are often found in other places on the forum.3 points -

What Have You Bought Lately? (CHA - Club Ho's Anonymous)

Well, I whiffed on US open tickets. Got into the queue early got into the purchase area three minutes after it opened, added 1 gallery ticket for each day to my cart, saw the price, hesitated, thought why not, clicked the get tickets button... and they were already all gone. . The good news here is that I now own a Garmin R10 courtesy at a very fair price from another Spy (the real reason I'm posting) and I can drown my sorrows using my 30 day free trial of Home Tee Hero to play LACC north. I'm expecting it to be significantly easier than the one time I got to play the real because I'm not going to have to actually putt on the sheets of glass they call putting greens. The other, and considerably more important, plus side is that I don't have to explain to my lovely wife why spending $1,200 on tickets to the US open was a worthwhile decision. Grounds passes were $320 for Sat/Sun and $280 for Thurs/Friday. I think the golf gods may have spared me today.3 points -

I broke 80 for the first time two weeks ago and have done it again since. My handicap is down to 12. Ive been using the AVX and clearly it works but I don’t like the lack of spin around the green. I prefer checking the ball when pitching and as we miss a few greens as mid-handicappers the result off wedges is important. Both balls are great there is not much between them in distance. The Srixon does fly higher. Keen on thoughts on these current versions.2 points -

I played in 37*F last weekend but the sun was out so that made a HUGE difference. Add in clouds, wind and wet and all the sudden it gets much colder. I think I am at the point where as long as it is warmer than 40*F I am definitely golfing. Once you get to 36-35 degrees or colder you start to need winter gloves which I have (the Footjoy ones) but I don't really like the feel at all. My hack the same as mentioned above, long johns for top and bottom go a long way to keeping you warmer. Golf pants are typically quite thin and will get you cold really quickly. I also like a cashmere sweater as a layer over the long john as they are super warm while still being flexible.2 points

Riding Golf Carts

We bought a place in central east coast FL where the kids over 14 can drive carts and drive them to school. The high school is loaded with them during the school day when school is in session, it is kind of ridiculous. One of the local shops told us they have parents coming in and dropping $16-20K on carts for their kids to commute to school (instead of buying cars, so I guess that kind of makes some sense, maybe). Anyway, the kids are often NOT following the "rules" that have been codified in local statutes. We were heading out of the neighborhood one afternoon and two young girls came flying across the entrance/exit road without stopping or looking; if my wife hadn't been paying attention and decided to slow down "in case" she didn't stop they would no doubt be D-E-A-D dead from t-boning us. I am still up in the air about getting one, but I do think that there should be some way of identifying whoever is driving these so, especially when it is kids, that anyone who experiences an issue like this can call the parents or the police and have it all addressed, before some kid gets dead from being a kid. Anyway, eyes open and twice as aware in these places. People are stupid.2 points -

Weather in your neck of the woods?
tony@CIC and one other reacted to EasyPutter for a topic
Last week golf was for the brave souls who love the game and the last few courses were open. This week the courses are closed as frozen greens are a real problem and ground is too soft for power carts, last week was mostly walking only on the courses still open though my Friday morning round was with a cart that provided excellent protection from the heavy rain that persisted for hours, and it probably made a difference there was only one other twosome and me on their family owned/operated golf course on Veterans Day. Resort courses are now changing over to winter activities preparation. Outdoors golf lasted almost 7 months this year so hopefully it will only be a 5 month hiatus until 2023 golf season starts in Western NY. We get these Lake Effect Snow Warnings when the forecast has precipitation expected with persistent wind direction from off Lake Erie. The open and relatively warm lake provides plenty of heat and moisture for clouds to form and moving over the colder and higher elevations the moisture gets wrung out as precipitation as rain or snow and that all depends on the ambient temperature. Lake Erie does freeze and nearly completely that shuts off that process but it takes a couple of months to get to that point and only if enough arctic air comes down from the Great White North to do the deep freeze thing. Downhill Skiing is a big WNY winter sport. Here we go! This is when that BirdieBall PuttUp mat I tested and other trainers take over to help scratch that golf itch. Soon to be in my putting stables is a PuttOut Premium Pressure Putt Trainer and looking forward to that to increase the challenges of indoor putting.2 points -

The ICON salesman was very upfront and honest about the $2600 upcharge for the lithium option. He advised to start with the AGM's for two reasons; first that you basically paid for the AGM's in the base price and only get about $300 credit swapping out as a new purchase, secondly, because the lithium battery technology for golf carts is evolving pretty quick, and both better tech at a lower price is the likely future, might as well get 3-4 years use on the wet cells and get whatever advances and lower pricing comes along. I will say that both the EZGO rebuilder place and Club Car said they have gone through some learning curves on lithium battery and controller configurations on rebuilds. The EZGO outfit recalling about 20+ carts a few years ago due to issues and concerns about fire risk. They have settled on a new configuration that seems to be performing well. My takeaway from these discussions is that one needs to wade into the lithium upgrade with some good research. We're going to check out the Yamaha dealer next. I saw a few 2018's with their newer AC drive motors (25 mph) that looked pretty nice and priced competitively. Kind of leaning towards ICON but there really isn't much in the way of consumer reviews that I can find. If anyone has one or knows friends that do, please share. Adding a couple of article on the ICON's for others who might be interested.2 points -

Congrats on breaking 80. You’ve broken 80 using the AVX and as you said, it works. Going with a ball with more spin around the green could actually be more detrimental to your game. I can’t see your shots,, but let’s say the AVX rolls out a couple of more feet and the ZStar checks up faster. This could drastically change your proximity to the hole and cause your score to rise. Of course you could get used to the higher spinning ball and make adjustments….which is a learning process that takes place over time. This is why ball fitting advocates say find the ball that has the performance you want around the green as well as with irons and off the tee. Either or any ball is probably fine; just stick with it.2 points

I haven't seen any of the Icon's around up here yet so can't really comment on those. I personally have EZGO carts but each time I bought one that came off a lease and then did the upgrades myself for the most part. Saved quite a bit of money that way and I like doing that sort of stuff. The only 2 things I could offer you for advice is to check what aftermarket accessories are available for Icon carts. One of the reasons I picked EZGO was the huge number of accessories and parts that are easily available all over the place. Club Car and Yahama I think would be very similar too. Not sure what's out there for Icon. The other advice I would offer is to seriously consider lithium batteries no matter which cart you go with. Ask the dealers if they offer them and what the cost is. Mostly likely it's a significant upcharge, but having just make the switch I believe it is well worth it. Best of luck with your cart search and let us know what you decide (with pictures of course!)2 points -

I have to start on that, I have no lower body power. It’s getting cold here though. I recently asked Mike Carrol (fit for golf) about programming up strength and power workouts with over speed training and he recommended stopping strength when doing speed/power can help eek out a little more speed if you are closer to your natural ceiling. Contemporaneous card strength workouts can apparently slow potential speed gains. I’m tempted to periodize them this winter and see if it helps.2 points

Yes, it's concrete and no I'm not putting anything between it and the foam. The foam has little nubbins on one side that should provide some airflow, but it shouldn't be an issue anyway. Remember I live in a desert... it's dry here. The foam tiles are 24"x24" and interlocking; they are not airtight connections. I've had these tiles on the old concrete floor (old patio) for a couple of years and no issues. I can lay these tiles in less than an hour, and remove them just as quickly. I'm not attaching the fake grass carpet unless it moves when swinging. This was done in a YT video and the guy had no problems. The unit is a Daikin; based on the recommendation of a good friend and retired contractor. Remote control, Auto, cool, dry, fan, and heat pump. It is whisper quiet!! And YES!... there are 2 windows in my hitting bay; an outside window next to the exterior man-door, and an existing window into the master bath that was on the exterior of the house originally. I don't anticipate any issues hitting them; didn't for two years hitting into a net. I suspect that my wife will want to change that window one of these days, because remodeling the master bath is on her list!!2 points
