  1. A old thread I always like to bring up for those new members here. But I also have an update. I still work as an Ice Tech for curling halls and events for the WCF, but I've also applied and hope to hear back soon about a new position in addition to this work as a member of the World Curling Federation Technical Commission. Essentially it is a group from around the world tasked with ensuring better ice conditions for championships, how to make better curling facilities, better or education system within the WCF and much more. I've gotten word that good news could be coming soon, but still have to wait. When the commission opened in 2018 I applied, but due to being Canadian and less experienced wasn't selected. There can only be one member per country and Canada has a lot of great ice techs. Now living is Switzerland the rep stepped down and the other techs here don't have interest in joining so it is a very good opportunity. The other part which still is a long shot, but possible is being selected for the Olympics to make the ice. Which is my main career goal. Getting on this commission would help that. Dont worry it wouldn't take away from my Mod duties, but only provide more stories and potential international content. This is just simply another thing to add to my work list and help support my family, build my career and expand my knowledge as well as share that knowledge with others.

  5. There is truth to that, we are enjoying a balmy 2*F this morning which is expected this time of here in these here parts. Yeah I complain about it but only because [A] natural gas utility bill is double any other season of the year and [B] the body used hard and put away worn gets muscle and joint aches when it gets down to single digit still air or wind chill (or sitting too long in a room below (69*F) Summer in the PG region inland required Nomex gloves to touch anything metal including personal weapons. The only skin exposed to air was chin in middle of the chinstrap, nose and cheeks above chinstrap and below goggles, maybe 4 square inches total, everything else protected by heavy camouflage uniform, heavy desert boots, Kevlar helmet and 60 lbs of body armor and ordinance. Daytime highs in unbroken sunshine were up there but vehicle air conditioning could bring it down 20*F ambient and vent temps were only about 95 that could be directed up an ungloved sleeve - refreshing! Agreed, can't be a wimp about both ends of the scale.

  6. Yup I think I mentioned in another thread - February (back in the late 60's) at Great Lakes NTC get up at 5:00 then stand in line in front of the galley/mess building outside at 6:00 waiting for it to open at 7:00 WTH Advance quickly to February 2023. Forecast today is low 70's sunny with light winds - tee time 12:12. I've paid my dues.

  7. ... Well I didn't do the crime but I did the time. 42 years. I certainly have a distance memory of those kind of temperatures and I am gonna keep it a distant memory. 55* is cold now and that is the baseline in my world. Otoh you won't hear me complain when it is 115*. It is very hot and uncomfortable but I have always felt you can cry baby about the heat or the cold, but not both.

  8. I’m quoting the above post, just to give some context to what I’m about to tell you here…. 3 weeks ago, I decided to return the Rogue ST Max I have under it’s 90 day playability guarantee and order another G425 Max, which is what I had prior with the only difference being this time I’d get a 10.5* instead of a 9* Fortunately they let me hold onto the Rogue until my Ping arrived, because today the store called me and said that my club had arrived, but the box was damaged and the shaft had splintered. That’s 3 separate clubs, 3 broken shafts, one within 10 swings, one on the very first, and another that never even made it into my hands all within a month’s time. . Unbelievable… I couldn’t make this up if I tried.

  9. I am pretty much a stock headcover person but I have switched to using the most recent MGS driver and putter cover. I guess the only reason is that the MGS logo'd stuff has meaning to me. I look at aftermarket headcovers and while they are nice, nothing really stands out as being special.

  15. Well, the ice storm is behind us (for now) and some better weather is forecast. Today should be in the upper 40s and sunny. The course is still saturated, so a red flag is out. I'll be teeing off at 11 am (shotgun start) with temperature about 42ish. Their calling for temps to reach 70 next week before the next cold front moves through the area and brings winter (well, mid-south winter) back.

Last June we lost our 18 month old Cavalier King Charles in a horrible accidentg - my wife and I were heartbroken. We were able to find a breeder with the color mix and gender we were looking for 6 weeks after Zoe's passing. Here a pic of Fergie at 7 months - what a lover she wants to sit in my lap in the morning while I'm having coffee and watching the news. Every night around 8:30 while we're watching TV she'll want to come up and snuggle next to me until it's time for bed. Hard to explain the connection to those who don't care for or have dogs.

  17. So have MGS headcover for my driver. My 3 wood is stock (SIM) and my putter cover is a shark. Name is Mark, have said it in other threads before but several nieces and nephews call me "uncle shark" sometimes "auntie shark" when their feeling brave (they think its hilarious so I allow it). @GolfSpy_BOSfound this headcover on ebay and I bought it 30 seconds later. Probably will never be replaced. It definitely has nothing to do with me being a shark on the golf course.....

  18. Put me in the MGS Driver and putter cover group. I do use Oem headcovers for my fairways. Oh and just to really explode heads, I use generic red/black IRON headcovers as well.

  22. Oh man do I love this topic, I was fortunate enough that Santa clause couldn’t figure out what to get! So he got me some new headcovers, I always loved these since they made their appearance at the Ryder cup! I know it’s not the exact set but it’s close enough for me. I also have a driver cover from Philadelphia cricket club that has a special place in my collection because of living there for a few years . In years past I’ve been a member of the collective for The Buck Club for the apparel and headcovers

  34. I've always kept the last few sets in case I wanted to go back, due to the new ones not performing like I expected. When a new set just happens to show up. The third in rotation gets handed down to my son. He is not as gentle on equipment as I am because he never had to pay for any. Then his set I usually give away to someone getting into golf because at that time they are not worth anything no matter how great the condition is. I wish I could off load and sell but I get attached. This was after giving away four complete sets.

  39. I played nine holes today and as a bonus, got to play with a friend of mine that I got into the game and his brother. Shadoe and I walk in together at work and after hearing me talk non-stop about golf for a long time, took up the game last year. Scheduling a round together has been tough, but we finally made it work. We played Indian Trace in Chatsworth, GA, a course I've never played before and thoroughly enjoyed. Shadoe also brought along his wife and kids to ride along with us and it was a joy to get to finally meet them. I didn't play too well, but both Shadoe and Doug had their best nine hole scores ever. Shadoe is a beast with his driver and once his consistency is there, I think we'll see some great scores out of him. His brother was remarkably good putting, he had several that just lipped out but he was reading the greens so good. I shot a 67, I was hitting the ball fairly well but I couldn't putt to save my life. I didn't keep my stats, but I would say I had between 25 or 30 for nine. It was the worst day on the greens I have ever had. Funny story, on the last hole I putted toward what I though was the hole and ended up 5 feet short...of a branch. I had about 15 feet to the hole which was to my left. I four putted that one after that terrible mental mistake. I'm not going to complain, it was the first round of the year and I was making decent contact with the ball. I was actually hitting driver well, just spraying it a little bit. I know that might be a contradiction, but I was picking it off the tee instead of losing one on about every hole. My fairways, irons, and wedges were pretty good after I got warmed up. We got to the course and the range was closed due to a lot of rain lately, so the rust was real. I had a wonderful time getting to hang out with them and chase that little white ball around.

  41. I hit a couple drivers yesterday. The Titleist TSR3 and Callaway Paradym and Paradym Triple Diamond. I have to say I was blown away by the look and feel of the TSR3. It was the winner for me on that day. Part of it could have been shaft a bit. I currently use the Ventus TR blue and I was hitting a Black Ventus with the TSR, but was hitting the Kalil with Callaway. Very good shaft as well, but I am familiar with the feels of the ventus line and was swinging a bit faster with the TSR/ventus combo. The standard paradym seemed to sit much too closed for my eyes. I really thought the Callaway would be going in the bag this year, but the TSR3 was just too good. The triple diamond was also very good, but just not quite as forgiving and a little less ball speed and distance. I also like that I can move the weight around side to side with the TSR3 as this helps me get the club closed a bit easier when I have the weight in the heel. I would say that the Paradym and the TSR3 were the closest when it came to mis hits and forgiveness. The triple diamond was definitely still better than my current Mavrik SZ in that department, but I can certainly notice a bit more of a punch with the new drivers. I don't think they will be adding much to my good hits, but the off center hits are definitely looking tighter and straighter. Indoors and on a simulator is so much different than real golf, so hopefully when I was seeing will translate to the course when I do make the plunge.

  43. This is where the ownership falls on the player. WE the club companies will continue to push tech/performance/product to the limit to give US the golfers the best chance to 1) Perform 2) Have fun Like any other investment you must research/test/discern what is best for you. That’s why I will always say “Go get fit” or at the very least go to a store and spend an hour in a hitting bay trying stuff. The perception that the iron line that falls with the woods is “less” is not something I have ever heard. Each line has a tech story behind it, that’s it. My point is if you get the Paradym Irons and Apex is launched at some point, you aren’t losing out on life for picking one over the other. It’s all good. Across all companies across all launches. YOU/US have to decide what is good for YOU. I’m here to provide the info on Cally gear so you are armed with what you need when you go start your process. Make Sense?

  44. Ok, next question on the Paradym (and let me first say.. my apologies for mis spelling your product model name in my previous note... my legacy in spelling bees got the better of me)... but how would you respond to the feeling that irons released to match new Driver releases are not as advanced as a mid-driver cycle iron series release (for example... the Apex line vs. this Paradym Driver matched iron set - either comparing to the last release, or anticipating the next iron only cycle?). There is a perception that a full matched set is of lesser quality. This may or may not be accurate, but I have heard this perception more than once on various OEM lines. What are your thoughts?

  46. @qLofty I just measured and my 3 wood is playing right at 42.5". For reference, I'm 6' 2.5" and with the OP setup this feels very controllable and distance is a non issue. On another note, I found the video that inspired my DIY shaft puller and is similar to @Bang60's. This is the best DIY puller I've been able to find so far and works great!
