  1. Good morning everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful start to your weekend. I'm sitting in the parking lot at work right now getting ready to go in and do some painting of numbers on the floor. I thought since it was going to be rainy this weekend I'd volunteer for some overtime. I'll admit that I would love to be asleep right now, but I might as well do something productive since almost anything golf related is out of the question. Hopefully it'll be a shorter day than normal and I can get some family time in.

  2. There is lots of excitement building around the upcoming testing season. The mod team is hard at work planning, procuring, emailing and developing all sorts of things on the back end to provide MGS with great testing opportunities. A big thanks goes out to the whole mod team for the efforts they put in and we hope that this year will be one of the best years to come! Want to know how we select our testers or what the process is on how to be a tester? Read the first post in this thread and check out the links for the updated 2023 quick hits to becoming a tester in the red box at the top of this thread!

  4. I have a "cherry Rockers" tournament all weekend. Which is little kids curling tournament. It's loud, games are rarely on time and there are so many ppl at the curling hall! It isn't a lot of work, just longer days... And lots of coffee.

  5. ... I could be wrong but I don't ever think these two tours will ever co-exist. Most of us draw our line in the sand, pun intended. For more than a few reasons I will never watch any LIV event but I have no problem at all with someone else's desire to watch. One of the things that has this country in so much turmoil is expecting others to see things the way we see them. If you are going to embrace the concept of freedom, that means you have to respect the opinions of those you disagree with.

  6. Pulled the trigger on this bad boy today. Too good of a deal to pass up, and I love the Cobra drivers I've trialed at my course. Upgrading from a Cleveland HiBore XL so figured it was past due that I had a driver from this decade. Also, the first time I get to pick the shaft, so I went with a VS Proto 70 Stiff. Going to see how they feel in a driver since all my irons are VS Proto and I love them. Super stoked!!

    Band Directing Rev.

I’m scheduled to retire at the end of the next school year. A little over a year from now. Our organist/band director took a job elsewhere. St Pete is a large cultural center do finding substitute organists has been easy enough. A part time Band Director? Not so much. My under grad is in Music Ed. I am/was an instrumentalist so that’s my area of “expertise.” Since graduated I’ve moonlighted professionally (trumpet), taught private brass lessons, sang ( still do) and directed choirs. I have not directed a band since student teaching in 1978. So my arm got twisted and in January I took over the bat-ton for our beginning and Middle School bands. When I took over I told them what every Director and coach does on the first day of practice - you are all equally important. Sometimes it’s a line of you know what but when you only gave 12 in a concert band it is most certainly true. My school has a huge choral tradition but historically our bands have not gee so great. They’ve earned an excellent (B grade) or two in competition but never a Superior - until yesterday! Because of them I can’t play to my current handicap index - they’ve taken up every minute that I would use to practice golf and eaten into my playing time. And I couldn’t be happier or prouder of a group of young people. My wife even said when I got home, “I guess you w found your retirement career!” Who knew - by the way the young lady being modest in the front row is a beast of a clarinetist - huge potential.

  10. ... This reminds me of an overweight guy I was paired up with that said "That remote electric cart looks great. If I were in better shape I would get one." To which I replied "I mean this in a most positive way but if you got one and started walking, you would be in better shape".

  11. I will say that I have both enjoyed and hated every test that I’ve participated in. The hated part, if anyone is wondering, was waiting on equipment, one particular fellow tester (who is no longer a part of the community) in a group that couldn’t or wouldn’t follow a single part of our given rubric, my personal struggles with posting media properly and innate fear that the reviews I offered wouldn’t measure up to those of my fellow testers. Tests can be a bit stressful because we owe something to the OEM, mods and community whenever we apply and are accepted. Understanding that they are also a good deal of fun.

  12. I'll second that! This work project is going to last longer than I thought. We only have two copies of each number so pitches 10-19 are going to take forever.

  13. Good morning...we went from high 70's thurs to the high 20's today which is more in line with feb temps. I have a couple small drywall mud sessions set up for today and hope to be done by 1 so i can get some things done around here. Have a great day.

  14. ... That is the manufacturer tolerance but it can be even more. The real trouble in paradise is when you get fitted for a 10.5* driver that is actually 11.91 and the driver you order and play is actually 9.36. And then people think the fitting was a bad one or the club just doesn't perform the same as when they were fit. Adaptors aren't perfect but really help in this regard.

  15. ... I agree and it gets very little attention as I think many of us posted our very strong opinions early on. What I do find irritating is the golf magazines and other publications that have about a 75% content of LIV. Kinda like the LIV Housewives of Saudi Arabia and they are banking on both sides being unhappy. Why can't it co-exist opposed to why would anyone condone it? I will read some opinions here but refuse to read or look at any click bait story about LIV.

    Electric Car Purchase

... Well I got quite a surprise today. My GV60 came in early! The driving is just amazing as this thing is sooooo fast but crazy smooth. The tech is another story and I am over whelmed and it is gonna take quite awhile to get up to speed. Seats are very comfortable and are ventilated which will be so nice when it s 110* and above. Bang and Olufsen 17 speaker system and most importantly a fold down seat in the rear that is just big enough for my clubs while the rest of the trunk fits my ZIP cart perfectly. It also leaves more room in my garage because without a motor it is 177.8" long and my G80 was 196.5". It looks so much better in person than it does in photos. ... If I do this right I will rarely have to charge at home as Genesis gives me 3 years of 30 minute charging for FREE at Electrify America. The GV60 charges to 80% from empty in just 18 minutes. Funny but they offer 3 years or 36,000 miles of free maintenance. First scheduled FREE maintenance is a year from today and it is ... a tire rotation LOL. ... Lots to learn but I will take my time.

When I play alone I sometimes play music via BT speaker. If the Rugby is on and the Sharkies are playing it is on or can be straight into my hearing aids so I don't disturb others

  22. ... Other than opening night, I was never overly excited or experienced that "good nervousness" when I performed on stage. But when friends were in the audience I certainly felt a heightened awareness. Having written reviews for many years it is much the same, so writing a review for MGS carries a much heavier expectation than just posting a review in general on my web page. I have to consider those that may be looking to purchase because it is in their possible purchase category as well as those that may want to try something a little above their pay grade. And of course those that will have no interest in what is being reviewed but enjoy a good read with entertaining pictures. It is quite the responsibility but one I truly love because I feel I have many cyber friends here and really enjoy the challenge.

  25. I’ve been doing a nice job staying out of the PGASS a 1/2 mile from me, so I haven’t seen those new SGI Stealth’s yet in person. From what I’ve read though, they have piqued my interest more than any other new iron release. I’m looking forward to your review. I know you’ve had plenty of experience with two versions of the Cleveland hybrid irons and would love to see how you think these TM’s match up.

That never gets old, pure comedy genius are all those skits that get a laugh every time and each is better than the last because of knowing what is coming (first laugh) and then it's delivered (second laugh) and then remembered (third laughs that keep reverberating into smiles) cheers Robin, proof you haven't left for good

A few of my former work colleagues, who do not play golf, were taking some pot shots at me in a recent email that had nothing to do with golf... but I somehow managed to serve up the slow, hanging softball. One shared this YT clip of Robin Williams description of the game. Thought some might enjoy a laugh.

  30. A lot of people should do what you do (including this dude who played player irons all last year). It did help in some ways as I was forced to make a more deliberate swing to make good contact, but I sure could have used a little more forgiveness. Here's hoping that my shift back to PD/GI Z585s will finally help me crack 80. @chisag

  34. Good morning on a frozen Friday, yesterday was significant more for the number of intermittent power outages, the first one for over 6 hours with ones that followed too numerous to count, some lasting seconds or many minutes. It is nice to have continuous service since 10pm last night. The corgis are struggling just to go outside to get their business done but doing their best. Looking forward to a productive day without having to reconnect to networks as a major time consumer for the workday! Coffee is hot and finding the beauty in this Frozen World.

    How'd you play?

4 more holes in yesterday after work. Irons were uncharacteristically awful but driver continues to be making strides forward since restarting speed training. Longer days and warm weather should bring some more practice. Ready to get the game back in shape!

  36. SWMBO wanted to go to local Strawberry Festival. Hours today are 10-4 and we got there at 9:50. Had trouble getting a cart parking spot near the Festival place was mobbed already. We got the Strawberry Shortcake, some strawberries & tomatoes to bring home and a draft beer for my efforts. Lots of people but good time. Had a bit of trouble getting out, the deluge of cars & carts trying to get in was nuts. Lucky I know a way out of there on a cart path so wasn’t too painful.

Alright guys, full disclosure, I did have putter, wedge and sleeve of balls in the trunk. I may have stopped by the club for some chipping and putting as a little celebration after the festival. But the I went and heard the Florida Orchestra. I do love live music of almost any type.

One of the benefits of Chicago winters is it'll give you a chance to explore all of the options both in the app and dashboard. There are a couple of good youtube videos on editing- you'll find the links a couple of pages back in this thread. FYI I don't use manual mode for putting - guess I'm not one of the 'cool kids'. I also prefer to use the phone app for editing - just personal preference. Feel free to ask even the most basic questions.

  41. 100% agree with this, although I'm less concerned with my mastery of the media and posting visually "cool" reviews, although that helps, and more concerned with justifying the opportunity to test. Getting tabbed to be a tester makes you want to justify the selection, to the mods and the other spies.

  42. I took some time to hit the Srixon ZX7 Mark II and Mizuno Pro 223 7 irons yesterday. Both are amazing. The difference between the two was just a matter of feel and the 223’s spins a few hundred RPMs more than the ZX7’s. Peak height, landing angle, and carry differences were negligible.

    Music on the Course

I am not a fan of it if I can hear it from a group in front or in back of me. It is especially annoying if it is crude or offensive music. If you are going to listen to music make it so you can hear it but I don't want to be forced to listen to your music. One of the things I love about golf is the ability to be away from everything and have some peace and relaxation that is aside from the errant shots and missed 5 footers. When I want to listen to something when I play alone I typically use one earbud but when I play in a group I would rather talk with my group and not be bothered by music. My problem and I admit I may also be a "Get off my lawn" guy is that respect for others in society is going away and when someone blasts their music it is just another example of I am going to do what I want regardless of the impact on others. Listen to what you want but please just don't make me listen to it as well because we probably don't have the same tastes.

  47. I'll typically play music from the cart during my Tuesday evening scramble league, but it's really only loud enough so that my partner and I can hear it in the cart, maybe hear it a little bit outside the cart. We try to not let it get too loud in case the other pairing we are playing with doesn't care for music on the course. I don't have any problems with it as long as it's not really loud/offensive stuff. If I can hear you blasting music from a fairway or two over, I think that's unacceptable. I'll also always pause it/turn it off if I'm in a fairway location that is close to the green on a different hole.
