  1. Enjoying my first cup this morning, watching the news and keeping company with my puppy. She's a bit lazy this morning. Maybe because I got up around 6?

  3. Good mornin y'all!!!!!! I was told that my NEW jaws Chrome(raw face) 48* is gonna be delivered today- just in time for my round on Saturday morning!!!!!!!!! Now if my irons will miraculously show up tomorrow- that'd be PERFECT!!!!!!!! EDIT: It got delivered this afternoon at 4:35 (I was still at work). It's REALLY nice!!!! It's supposed to be warmer tomorrow- maybe I can swing it a few times before I play it on Saturday. It's got the same shaft as my new irons- so it'd be kinda nice to see what the launch/spin/distances are I'm somewhat confused- looking at my Callaway account page my current order # it says "Partially Shipped" in green letters. Then when I click on the order # it says "Shipped". I've had orders from Callaway that said nothing about being shipped. Then I received the clubs before I received the shipment notification. I'm hoping that's the case with my irons and they magically show up tomorrow. Guess I'll find out then

    How'd you play?

Shot 80 today and was actually quite happy with it- track is soaked and cart path only. This means no roll, and often have the wrong club after walking all the way across a wet fairway. And oh, did I mention the 30 mph gale force winds? Yea, that was going on too, in addition to cold as all get out. I all reality I had a great round, and hit numerous really good strikes- mind you, this is Southern California, and I’m not kidding when I say it was cold!

  6. I got out after work today and took a trip to the range. I was a bit concerned that rain was going to come in and actually, it was showing up on the radar. I sat around the house for a few minutes and then headed out. I've been working on my swing in the yard and doing some club less drills in an attempt to rid myself of my habit of pulling down on the club with my trail arm. I hit some short wedges to one of warm my body up and to feel a little ball on club action. I couldn't do too many because a small bucket is SMALL. I hit some full shots starting out with my set GW. I'll say it was pretty good, albeit a little on the heel side. Moved on to the 8 iron, flushed the first one and was a little less consistent as I went on. The 6 iron was up next and I'll say the picture isn't great but the contact is showing improvement. I hit my first shot with my 5 wood good and then consistently hit extremely low heel. Driver was consistent, consistently toey. Well, except the first shot that hit off the crown of the club. I finished up on the chipping green and by getting some practice in putting. I'm really happy with how things went today. Hopefully I'll be able to get out on the course soon.

  7. Good Thursday morning that feels like a Monday morning but different in above freezing outside, only where snow had piled up on Monday is it remaining otherwise green and dry everywhere - forecast was apparently aggressive to precip. Still winter storm watch is up for tomorrow and pushed back to evening commute hours. Coffee is more interesting right now it is March and one weekend closer to golf Missed seeing Jupiter and Venus close together last night when they were supposed to be close enough to "kiss" (some creative imagination thing I doubt came from the scientific astronomy world)

  8. I woke up this morning to a tornado warning text from work. I guess they had one spotted in the area and had the third shift workers find shelter. The good thing is, the first text I saw was an all clear so everything is fine. I looked at the Weather Channel and there was just a warning and not a watch until 6. I'm now sitting in my car drinking coffee watching the rain gently fall. I hope y'all have a good start to your morning.

  10. Just letting you all know, you might not me as active over the comng weeks. Everything is fine. But in additon to my day job being very busy right now, I've taken on s special project, which I can't give any details or information on now. Only to say, I think it when I am able to it will be of great interest to the Forum. So I'm not only looking forward to this endeavor, but also sharing the results of it with the forum. But as usual on a forum, feel free to guess away and speculate like crazy. That's all part of the fun! So I'll just leave it at:

    How'd you play?

On holiday in Tenerife, played 3 rounds so far. I tend to play twilight rounds, first 2 rounds were at Amarilla, found it really tough, especially on the greens. Moving from slow winter greens to slick Bermuda grass was really tough, 5 x 4 putts in the first round. Yesterday moved to Golf del Sur and got on much better. Spent 45 minutes on the practise green, still hit a couple of stinking irons but on the whole a pretty good round of 76, with a final hole birdie.

    How'd you play?

7:45 Tee Time with the Wednesday group. This is the serious group I play with weekly and it’s a lot of fun, we’ve been playing together for 5years +. I’ll keep it simple it’s BT, FM1, FM2 and me. BT is the long hitter, FM1& FM2 are the steady decent 70+ year old players, just kids. Nice morning, 75* little breeze doesn’t get better than this on March 1st. BT had tough morning FM1 was inconsistent on the green where FM2 was hanging in there and me I had a good morning. I shot a front 9 +2, 38. Could have been lower but putting could have been better.

  16. Been off the radar for a bit. Just got back from Hilton Head and Pinehurst for 10 days. Played Talamore (the only one I haven't played on our list) and it was a fun course. Looking forward to seeing you all in a couple of months.

  17. gm This morning is cloudy with wind 18-34mph so no golf today. Sure, I'll have another cup of coffee! Yesterday morning was not pretty!! After deciding to walk 9 holes again because the sun was out, I left my house to run some errands before I driving to the course. Arrived at the course... opened the trunk... no clubs!!! I forgot they were home in my hitting bay. Finally got to the course about 10:30 and hit a few balls and some putts. As I was walking off the putting green, I saw a twosome in a cart heading down the #1 fairway... rats! The pro shop said I could go after that twosome at 11:05; nobody else was on the tee. So, I teed up and hit my ball thinking I would probably catch them. A single in a cart rolled up for the 11:05 tee time; OK. He said the was a golf newbie ; then a couple in a cart rolled up, also 11:05 tee time. The newbie popped the ball up to the right about 50y; the guy block his shot waaay right. It took us 20 minutes to play a 310y par 4. Took another 20 minutes to play the 270y par 4 #2. All this standing around with the sun going behind clouds and wind picking up, I was getting cold. The final straw was while we were putting out on #2, a ball from the #2 tee landed on the green and rolled off the back. My car is about a 7i from the green, so I decided that it wasn't my day to play golf. Wished everyone well and left.

  18. If I had $1200 to spend on equipment and such, I think I’d go with a club-fitting for irons at Sub 70. There’s enough there to cover short airfare and car rental, I think.

  20. I played today for the first time in four months, and I've only had one range session in that time. Shot 38-45=83. To be honest, going in I would have accepted 45-45, but that 38 set my expectations high. If my wedges were anywhere near my normal game I would have broken 80. I'm taking this as a positive indicator for the coming season.

  24. Oh heck yea: Titleist TS3 9.5* driver ($150) Taylormade SIM 3 wood ($90) Titleist MB 718's 4-PW ($650) Titleist SM7 50/54/58 wedge set ($180) Cleveland Huntington Beach #3 ($60) Think that brings me to $1130 with $70 to spare to cover the gap in between the irons and 3 wood. So throw a 5 wood in there for a wapping even $1200

  25. Gotcha! There's a few directions I would consider going. Wish list: Ping i230s would be very very tempting or Dynapower Carbon and Staff CBs. But if I took care of realistic bag upgrades, I would venture into Srixon ZX 3w, Ping G425 3-4 hybrids, Cleveland Zipcore 52-56*. That will leave around $300 left to stock up on left dash ProV1xs if I buy new, or if I go used I might just have enough leftover to snag that Dynapower Carbon driver

  26. Max Homa has a point about the non-designated events: "On the topic of limited fields, Homa was particularly protective of those on the outside looking in. In restricting access to those high-money weeks to “70-to-80 players,” per Monahan’s memo, Homa argued the Tour’s intent wasn’t to keep players out, but rather to provide a lifeline to those in non-designated events. “The part that’s frustrating and maybe just simply misunderstood is that if we made these fields very large in these designated events, it would ruin non-designated events,” Homa said. “It would ruin them. No one would play in half of them because it would no longer fit your schedule.”

Just remember, somebody somewhere at some time made it necessary for every one of those forms. You can thank the people who want to get over on the government (that means on every one of us since our government is of the people, by the people and for the people) and their legal efforts made it necessary to be very specific what is permissible and what is not. We will never know who those people are or were but they are all those kinds of people we maintain a strong military and intelligence community to defend against when they are not home grown. The price of freedom from corruption, maladminsitration and tyranny. Bet you never thought you would read those words in the MGS Forum

  28. In another day of some throwback threads lets see what you would purchase with $1200. New, used or otherwise... what are you putting in your shopping cart with §1200? I think I am going experimental and going with a driver with autoflex then some golf balls... I think that would about kill the budget.

  29. I would encourage anyone on either side of the debate to listen to the NLU podcast. And not even for their opinions on the whole changes as they are good and value both sides, but they have PGA Tour playing Peter Malanati on as a guest who was on the board to vote for these decisions. He brings up great points, his view as an outside player looking in and on why this is a good thing for the tour moving forward. Do I agree with everything he says? Not necessarily, however he has a lot more knowledge then I do so I should probably trust him on this.

    How'd you play?

I respect you for going out today. In my part of SoCal, the winds were high with a bit of hail mixed in. So grateful my tee time is tomorrow and Saturday when the temps raise to something approaching Spring.

To all you vets who depend on the VA for services... I have a renewed and deepened appreciation for what you have to go through... I already knew the VA is a big, sprawling, sometimes less than 100% efficient bureaucracy but... So there's a fairly large VAMC not too far from me, and they have a fun little 9 hole golf course where I used to play a bunch. Ended up volunteering there for several seasons .. then I decided I wanted to do a something more for vets directly... .. gonna cut out a lotta details to this story but that was 3+ years ago... .. finally reconnected, post COVID shutdown, with the Voluntary Services coordinator... ..she emails me how to get started applying... ..the email has 14 - that is not a typo - FOURTEEN attachments of forms to print, fill out, return...

  32. Ahhhh was afraid you would say that lol, guess I’ll have to look for a wedge set. But that Diawa Protege sw is the best grouping I’ve ever had, beat TM Ping titleist cobra but obviously all those big brands have a sw that would work for me I just haven’t found one… Ive got some mizuno to try so maybe they’ll work, meanwhile I’m having fun looking for nirvana lol…

  33. 3º is a big change for a wedge, even a forged wedge and probably not recommended for a cast wedge. I wouldn't go more than 2º. You are also changing how it interacts with the turf and affecting the offset.

  35. I generally turn it on and hit the gps/track button as soon as I get to the course - there are times it comes right up other times I have to wait an extra minute of two as it acquires the gps

  40. Capturing putting distances is a tough thing for a couple of reasons. GPS accuracy - commercial GPS units aren’t accurate to the foot so even if you capture the location it could still be off by a few feet. GPS takes time to adjust. If you have a device that shows F/M/B locations you will notice that it takes about 5 to 10 seconds to adjust to your location and provide the correct distance. When we get close to the hole or have made a putt, the GPS may not have completed the location mapping when we mark the hole or that 2 footer.

    How'd you play?

Played 9 yesterday and shot a disappointing 46. Different course; first 5 holes strong wings in the face for the first 5 holes. Fairways also in bad/spotty condition. Still struggling with iron and hybrid mishits, and putting continues to be a problem. But only 1 par and 2 should’evs. Greens were tricky as they had some coloring that made them hard to read and no way to read grain. Was pulling my 4h and 6i, except 1 that I pured my 4h and maybe 5’ offline to the right on a par 5. Cleared a fairway bunker and hit the very top back ledge that rolled in and under a grass lip. On the bright side - 7 strong excellent drives and my FIRs over past 20 rounds is 84%. Feeling challenged to keep positive thoughts but I know things will turn around. Another bright spot - I desperately need new fitted irons and had an onsight pxg fitting in Jan that didn’t resolve the shaft selection. I’m scheduled again in 2 weeks - and the Gen5 0311 irons just came down in price to $159/club.

  44. I know. It was more of a tongue in cheek/rhetorical question. I think most of us north of 60 never thought it would happen... at least not so suddenly. You still feel good, but you just can't get it out there. It's like one season I was still hitting it as far as I always did, and the next it was like someone flipped a switch and It was gone...lol. I'm not ready to be old... yet.

My understanding is that if you haven't played that course for more than about 3 days or so, it'll take longer to find the course. No idea why that is.

  46. Agree 2* is recommended max. Howl can stress and crack also turf interaction can become skewed as @Kenny B mentioned.

  47. I'm ready for the work, have never shied away from it. I've been working on what I've been trying to learn on my own (rightly or wrongly) as much as I can, but as it's mostly been wrongly need help to get back on track. I've also been working with a really great trainer (DC and neuropathologist) to help me get out of the rut of training in a 30 year old injury. This is a quality of life change; not golf related, but it's helping there too. Big life changes that all take incremental but dedicated practice. I live by the the philosophy of it's better to practice something slowly and deliberately a few times often than practicing with long sessions infrequently.

  48. The alignment aid is more about centering the ball along the putter face and helping players set up square to the target line. But I definitely can see how they can distract certain players and even encourage poor putting stroke. Great thing is there are options that work for everyone The idea that is right for you is the one that gives you the most consistent positive results

  49. First 9 holes with Shot Scope! I still am not good at golf! It worked as well as could be expected and I was glad I could remove the round from my performance stats as it was just a test run for the watch and my game. It did take a bit to hook on to the satellite so just give yourself some time. Real excited to use this on a regular basis but alas winter returns tomorrow.

  50. This morning's crazy driver near disaster... I'm following a large movers truck through an intersection .. and on the other side, on "our" same side, of the intersection is a car waiting to pull out from a current gas station .. left, apparently, across our travel lane... ..well as the truck has crossed the intersection and is practically crossing that car .. yep .. *then* they decide to pull out.... But that's not the end of it... ..there was already a line of cars in the other lane waiting to make their left turn, so this person really had nowhere to go yet... ..truck hits the brakes and sounds the horn .. driver lurches forward .. and only avoided hitting a large white shiny Range Rover - ie hard not to see! - as the Range Rover driver pulled a quick evasive maneuver...
