  2. Good morning and happy Friday everyone! It's a bit dreary here this morning and the coffee is just a tad weak, but it still tastes good. I think I didn't put enough in the coffee maker and will rectify that mistake in the morning. It looks like the weather is going to get rough this evening. They're predicting storms and strong winds later on. Hopefully it won't get too bad. I'm looking forward to the weekend, we're supposed to be getting together with some friends tomorrow night and I'm really looking forward to it.

  5. Good morning from the wintery Idaho. Another few inches of snow has shown up last night. Not looking like any golf here until late April. Anyone want to send some gas money over for a trip south? Haha Good luck to all those that are hitting the course today!

  6. Good morning on a frosty WNY Friday, overcast day with wintery weather due by evening commute, possibly inches of white precip but that remains to be seen, doesn't slow us too much in these parts. Successfully commuted down the basement steps again for an hour of work, vehicle service at 8am then back to finish the day. Not like it would be any good to take the rest of the day off for golf or anything, that comes with the season in a couple months hopefully sooner. Coffee is hot and strong, swing by Jason I have extra to share

  8. Ordered the G425 3 wood and hybrid to the specs from my fitting. Trading my two Cobra hybrids. Since the whole goal of my fitting was to hit specific yardage gaps there was no reason to order the new G430 fairway and hybrid. I’m saving some money, AND I’m hitting the yardages I need with each club. Stoked for this season!!! All that’s left to do is get my wedge yardages and make any tweaks there.

  9. I've moved into the bling phase of my addiction to the game and building clubs... I think I really wanted these, but it also may just be an excuse to pull out the torch, hosel brush, dremel, and epoxy. Also, if this doesn't help me stop with the stupid six/nine doofusry, nothing will.

  10. You're planning a month long trip to play one round with each set of clubs you purchased in the last six months.

  11. What is a soft sand bunker? Bunkers are hard compressed damp sand.

  12. As far as I know, if there's some magic other way please let me know. It isn't that bad once you know your way around doing it. Heat them up, pull the heads, brush out the old epoxy from the hosel, prep the tip, dry fit and check swing weight, epoxy. All told it might take 1-2 lazy hours then an additional 24 for epoxy to set.

  18. Good morning from balmy (3 degrees Celsius) Sooke. The weather has been inclimate and spotty in southern Vancouver Island the past week or so. No snow in Sooke however Saanich Penninsula (about 1 hour east) has 6 inches or so. My home course is kindof in between, I think the front 9 will be open today for play. Going to be an indoor day for me…

  19. Since you are the resident outing planner and since the new MGS HQ has gone vertical I am guessing it is time to start planning the ultimate golf outing that includes a party and meet and great at the new HQ.

  20. "Good" morning fellow MGS'ers! Our three year old has spent the week in what seems to be a sleep regression where he wakes up 3-4 times a night, yells "DAAAAAAADDDDYYYYY" at the top of his lungs, and then requests that I sit in the room until he falls asleep. It is safe to say I am lacking in sleep and feel like I am reliving the newborn stage again . Relying heavily on caffeine today! I should add that he recently discovered he can climb out of his crib, and his room is in the lower level, so where I used to just be able to let him be in there until he fell asleep, he's now an escape artist and tries to climb up the stairs in the middle of the night, half asleep. Transition to big boy bed is coming soon.

    How'd you play?

Welcome to my first game of 2023. After hitting the driving range earlier this week, I’ve been lowering my expectations—and I mean low. Lower-than-Death-Valley low. I mean, I filled my bag to the brim with old balls I was hoping to lose so I could justify buying a new box of Maxflis. Of course as many do, I also prepped for the game. I played the course mentally, did my stretches, visualized the perfect swing, made the chicken sacrifice to appease the golf gods in honor of the first game of the season … You know, I followed the highly recommended, MGS Most Wanted® pregame routine. And this was what the day looked like. Felt this way, too. Gone was the wind. And rain. And hail. And cold. After settling down, remnants of my groove showed up. Quick notes: Four pars, five bogeys Some pretty good drives (230-250) after settling down, but before running on fumes. I wouldn’t say I found fairways all the time, but I did keep it to the “first cut.” Short game needs work Putting was meh. It was me, not the putter. Final Score: I BROKE 100, Baby! 96. I mean, I’ve done it before with a 93, but it was a while back, and I injured my back in the process. So, I’m ahead of schedule. I wasn’t supposed to break 100 until my next game on Saturday. Today was supposed to be the throwaway game. You could say that the pressure’s off now, but come tomorrow I’m pretty sure all I’ll be thinking about is how to break 90. Best New Club in the Bag for 2023 And the winner is: Sub 70 669-U! It kept me in the fairway every time I pulled it out of the bag. Can’t wait to bring to the range again and pull down some numbers. The bad news? I only lost two balls. I still have large stash of cheap balls, so no Maxfli shopping spree. Oh, well. There’s always Saturday.

  22. Weather managed to clear up for today so I hit the range after work. Wasn't really working on anything in particular, just wanted to hit some balls since it's been a few weeks. Might be a swing of the day kind of thing, but was hitting a small little draw on my irons instead of that push fade that has been plaguing me for awhile. Maybe moving the lie angles 3 degrees upright helped, maybe my swing was just a little better today. Either way, I was liking the ball flight, but I think the fade fits my eye a little better. Spent 60% of the time hitting wedges to different distances. Had some loft changes done on the PW and the 50 degree, so gapping appears to be better there. Nothing crazy, just swinging the club at a consistent tempo. I know most of my problems come when I get too quick at the transition, so I'm going to focus on just keeping everything smooth for the next few weeks. Everything was going pretty well so I figured I would hit a few 3 woods off the deck. I always figure the 3 wood will show me how much the other clubs are lying to me about my swing for the day. Coming from a person that was terrified to even purchase a 3 wood when I went for the fitting, it's still a club I need to work with. Having said that, if this is my miss with a club I'm not comfortable with after not swinging for a few weeks, I will take it gladly. Obviously a little low, but I'm trying to keep my expectations in the real world here. Also spent a little bit of time putting in the office during my lunch. Realized a weird quirk of mine that seems to cause me to push a lot of my putts to the right. Apparently I've been watching the club go back with my eyes, so today I just focused on keeping my eyes on the back of the ball and not watching the club. It was weird how much of a difference that little thing made.

  25. ... I hope it works for you. Bunker shots are so very interesting because if you have improper technique (I am usually not a technique kinda guy) it is an extremely difficult shot. With proper technique it is one of the easiest shots in the game. You may not get it close but your should be able to get it out and on the green every time because the margin for error is huge. Missing your spot for the club to enter the sand can be off 2" in either direction and still hit a decent shot. ... The biggest issue is the technique is unlike any other shot you play and the exact opposite of many. More weight on your front foot, wider stance, cocking the wrists immediately, line outside the plane, keeping the trail hand underneath the shaft, having the club head pass the grip after impact while holding the face open (biggest issue for most) and not swinging too hard unless you need max spin. That's a lot to throw at someone that just takes a "normal" but shorter swing. But the good news is once you have all of the above down, it becomes second nature and not something you think about. That said, good luck with your Bunker Mate!

  26. The weather has been consistently... not nice. Looking out the window at the sun makes me want to head to the course, but I know it's chilly and the 19-36mph winds just make me miserable. Another morning of practice in my hitting bay after exercises, then watch the API tournament. Tomorrow is looking a lot better for play; 45-50º with only a slight breeze.

  34. The Golfspy_CG2 champions tour project? You work - day and night with a top 100 instructor to get your game ready to Monday Qual for a Champion's Tour event? Of course that will mean that you need to audition equipment from all the top OEMs to see which might be the best fit for your emerging game.

  36. I would 100% disagree with the notion that you can't do other forms of strength training or aerobic training while in a speed training program, so long as you properly rest and recover from both. My Stack training sessions are Monday Wednesday and Friday, and after each Stack session I hit the gym for 90 minutes. Those 90 minute workouts start with explosive movements (jumps, ball slams, etc) and then move to heavy free weights. I'm getting faster. It can be done.

  37. The ever persisting winter here has caused me to go stir crazy with golf. Half my bag has not seen a blade of grass. New additions this winter were 4-9 Cobra Tour MiM’s and new lower lofted SM9’s a 50*, 54*, and 58*. will probably end up with a new hybrid by the time the weather even thinks about warming up.

  38. Something to practice. Have 3 swings with club of choice and also try different clubs because they will all land and rollout different distances. Note how at the ball travels in the air and how far it rolls out. 1st swing is short and quick (remember body rotation and not hands and wrists). Going to be a low trajectory shot that should land a little ways in front of you, kind of barely on the green if close to the green 2nd swing is medium length and speed. Going to be a little higher trajectory and carry further than the quick swing. 3rd swing longer and slower. Going to be even high and carry further than the media Only thing you are changing is speed, ball position will still favor more towards front foot. Also remember to keep more weight on front foot thru the swing another thing to practice is hitting your landing spot. Place a putting circle or towel where you want the ball to land and hit shots to that spot

    How'd you play?

It's actually the first course I walked with my push cart (bday gift from my wife) - amazing experience, but - fun fact - if you're a big dude and wear underwear that bunches, chaffing WILL happen, and you will regret ever being born.

  44. That doesn't surprise me. One of the reasons I like Callaway so much is their customer service. I had an FT-3 driver that I'd bought from an individual- not Callaway- that ended up with a cracked head right below the hosel. I called and asked what we could do. The paid for me to ship it to them, they replaced the head, gave me an upgraded shaft and new matching grip (probably an inventory extra club that was laying around collecting dust) and the shipped it back to me at no cost. It cost me NOTHING and I got a new driver- for sake of argument.

  47. Yeah, my first thought was lessons—lots of lessons, so I just treated this like a gift card for The Golf Mart. Oh, I love the suggestions here—Shotscope, portable launcher. I might be able to build out my own indoor range (minus the simulator), but I’d have to give up my woodshop. Decisions, decisions …

  49. The OP said "clubs" but if lessons are allowed, that's what I'd go with also! Playing lesson .. or two or three .. with a really good pro; maybe another putting clinic; some short game-specific instruction/guidance; add in a little .. ohoh wait a sec .. are we past the $1,200 mark already..??
