  1. ... Who doesn't love free golf stuff? But I am only interested in free stuff I would love to put into play and often I already have something similar, so I leave it for someone that doesn't. For instance I would have loved to do a review of the Stewart Follow cart, but I already have a MGI ZIP and just felt it would mean much more to someone always wanting a remote cart but didn't own one for a variety of reasons. But I always enjoy reading the reviews. I am not positive but think I have only requested one product to test in all the years I have been here. This year I am looking for a new driver so I would be interested in those test opportunities, but even then only a few that really interest me. ... I have had a long and interesting career in the golf world from teaching to doing reviews and having inside information from VP's of Marketing to Engineering. I have a wealth of knowledge I enjoy sharing with these that love the game, especially those new to any part of it. As the saying goes there is no such thing as a stupid question. And I still learn new things from members all the time. MGS really is a WIN-WIN.

  3. I wouldn't say that is uncommon by any means. When many are golfing they think golf and we always see a uptick in activity when golfing season approaching. I think your situation is very common for many and I would expect to see several names pop back in over the next month or so as golf season kicks off! It also is in line with when testing season usually begins too, which brings a lot more eyes and members back. What I have been impressed with is how membership this offseason has really come together and found different ways to get involved, be active and find good off season threads and activities to take part in. It has really brought new life to the forum and mean that we have been busier than we have been in well over a year and a half. Which is saying a lot because it has been January and February. As a mod team this just makes us thrilled to see what is to come for the spring and summer months. I've said it before and will say it again here, it is great to see so many new names on the forum and participating.

    How'd you play?

Finally got a nice day without rain and I got out to play. The course is still water logged from all the rain we've had so far this year and you get absolutely zero roll on anything you hit. With all the rain, the greens crew hasn't been able to get out and prep the bunkers nor do much with the greens. We are playing lift, clean, and cheat due to course conditions and sometimes having to take some fairly generous drops (placements) to find some place that isn't borderline casual water or worse. In any case, I shot two over my handicap with an 83, having missed 3 reasonable birdie opportunities. I did make one birdie on #6, only to follow it up with a double when I pushed my 6 iron and it rolled down into a grass hazard bordering the water hazard. Wouldn't you know it? The proverbial PBFU.

  5. Good morning on a chilly BUT SUNNY! Sunday morning in WNY. Lots of things to catch up on in this thread in just the last hour alone! First allergy was to 99% of the cats I met, then pectin food sensitivity. Avoidance solved both. Army basic soldiering and combat engineer training in Missouri started a whole spectrum of airborne pollen allergies, who knew I would be allergic to tree sex. First tried Benadryl while working, big mistake, that cartoon balloon head guy - the one where his head is floating way above his body on a string - I was the guy that was drawn about. Not really. Had the allergy starting age 20 and it suddenly disappeared age 56, must have reached it's expiration date. Waffles, great idea. Now I'm thinking I need more breakfast... the oatmeal with Lyle's Golden Syrup was [past tense] perfect. Keeping coffee topped up in the mug of SWMBO, and honestly it would not have anything to do with influencing her support for my 2023 golf season.

  7. Happy Sunday everyone Mine are bad as well. I just saw on the news channel weather report that allergies are 9 out of 10 scale - so don't feel alone. On my 3rd cup of coffee - our puppy had me up at 3:00 this morning so I need an extras jolt of caffeine. Getting ready to head out with my wife for a couples scramble event. I've got to finish this cup of coffee first. Should be back in time to watch the guys finish at the API.

  10. Good morning everyone! It's going to be a nice day today and I'm going down to North GA here in a bit to play another round of golf with my buddy. Right now I'm drinking coffee and giving the dogs some much needed love after them not getting any while their pet humans were asleep.

  12. We played a two man net best ball today, and each team consisted of an A and B player. My partner got 26 shots from the Senior tees, but ended up the star of the day. He shot 45 (net 32) on the front, and 51 on the back, but kept us in 3rd place with a 7 net par on 18. We got home in net 63 and split $80 I had two birdies, and shot 88 with two ugly triples on 9 & 18 ( I simply can’t finish a clean 9 holes without screwing up somewhere along the way, and it’s getting frustrating. Other than that, I played very well on a very windy day. My league tried something new today. We used an app called Golf Game Book. You enter your (and your teams) scores after each hole and it will adjust to net. The coolest feature though is the live scoring leaderboard. You see exactly what every other player in the field gets on a hole, and lets you know where you or your team stands at all times. It was really fun, and made things very interesting down the stretch. It’s free, and I suggest any of you who play in a league, have the person who runs yours look into giving it a try. Once he sets up the game, he’s basically done. After the last group enters their scores on their final hole he has the results for the field. No more going over everyone’s scorecards and trying to decipher their handwriting, lol.

  13. Filled in my response. I joined the forum to support MGS as a whole. I was fortunate enough to be selected to test products but I really enjoy the member interaction and the banter that occurs in the various threads. While we all love this game and mostly take it seriously I find that the forum members don’t take themselves too seriously. Which makes the forum a fun place to spend time.

  15. Well, we didn't get to play today. All the courses ain't my buddy's house were booked solid and the one we were going to play had the back 9 closed due to all the rain lately. So, we went to a driving range and hit balls and hung out. It was fun getting to spend some time with Shadoe, his wife, and his brother. We hit quite a few balls and I will say the confidence is starting to tend the right direction. I spent a lot of time using the @chisag drill where you place a ball about 3 feet in front of the ball you're hitting and thinking about hitting the front ball with the ball you're hitting. I even had my buddy do a few to work on solid contact with his fairways. The best benefit for me was I was just sitting the club down and hitting as soon as it touched the mat. There was no sitting frozen over the ball paralyzed with swing thoughts. I was hitting the ball as well as I have in a long time. I didn't take a lot of photos, but I did get this one of 3 shots with the driver. They were low on the face, but the range had plastic tees and mine was sitting a bit low. I'm just impressed with the consistency of the strike. The best part of the day was we all left there feeling a bit more confident in our games.

  16. Definitely not taking away from testing but referring more to its nice because during this time of year there is a ton of activity with no testing. Will only get busier now. Few things I am interested in this year, driver is not one though.

  17. Morning folks, coffee and golf on the TV until the wife wakes up. Then off to the airport as she is gone for 4 days for work. Golf expo this weekend and might check it out. Scoring season started here in Oregon. My back has been whack since mid Jan and I haven't picked up a club since SB. It's feeling much better. If the rain holds off my plan is to blow off the putting green and get some work in. Have a great Sunday.

  26. It doesn't make sense to me, I've resided in the south my entire life and for the first three decades absolutely no problems. Now I hit 30 and my sinuses want to kill me. The initial benadryl affect has the nice same comfort as the first sip of coffee, it just goes all downhill from there

    How'd you play?

The day started like this. And like the weather, my game cooled down. My driver heated up toward the end, but my putter stayed frozen. Can’t wait to get back to my PuttOUT for a booster shot of confidence. I had so many chances on the green to take strokes off the game, but I just couldn’t string enough good shots together make par once. I did have moments, like a couple GIRs and landing the green from 162 yards out. Ah, well, overall it was a fun time. I saw a three-legged coyote hopping along the 13th fairway, golfed with some pretty nice folk this week and kept alive a continuing golf series with my brother.

    How'd you play?

Got out late, 3pm ish, and the local municipal course Howell Park has a $20 rate to walk 9. This course just reopened 3/1 so the track is near perfect a little muddy in places but beautiful sprawling hills of grass my clubs were happy (aside from when I hit my 5H off a tree root on the par 5 #2 leaving 2 white scuffs, a nice battle wound considering the ball flew under the tree line and ascended to catch the wind 20mph left to right taking my natural fade for a ride to the front of the green from 187 yds away.) Sand traps were wet and compacted so the 1 fairway bunker I had to save I was able to hit a nice 7i on the green like I was swinging off the cart path. I had 3 looks at birdie, made none, 3 putted 1 of them *cringe* and buckled my knees on the other 2. I did make a 8 ft putt on #1, but that was for bogey after I left my AW short and hit a decent flop. The 2 pars were on handicap 15 and 17 and I bogeyed the rest..until I doubled on #9 when a 40yd wedge became a skull over the back of the green. Finished +8 on the 9 holes, but that last hole wrecked me. 20+mph wind gusts felt swirling when I looked at the tree tops I got different reads plus the dogleg right 400yd par 4 makes you aim all over the place if you have to take 3 shots to get there. My drive plugged after about 180 yds, a 4w that should go about 215 went about 190, that's what left the half swing wedge shot to finish with a lazy armed amateur effort that had me wondering "What was I doing out here for 2 hours?"

    How'd you play?

Randomly decided to play yesterday and there was nobody on the course so I treated it like a practice round and it was amazing. Was driving the ball well, irons are rounding into form and the chipping is as best as I've ever had it. Golf is fun for me now. Experimenting with shot shapes and trajectories. Digesting the result and moving on to the next shot and managing realistic expectations. The G430 LST is incredible. Best sounding Ping driver ever and there is no debate. TSR2 hybrid was fun to get on the course. Dropped some balls around 230 out on a few par 5s and hit the green with ease. HMB 2 iron was fantastic off the tee. Really allows me to hit a more controlled shot when driver brings far too much trouble into play. Can't wait for the season

  35. It’s funny, I never really associated the pop up with MGS. I just assumed it was an ad thing. If the drivers actually come from MGS then, yeah, I believe that it’s a legit thing. I once got contacted that I won a set of irons via the donor raffle. I was so surprised because I forgot that I made a donation.

  36. There are any number of reasons for. It announcing it. Could be a privacy thing for the winner? Given their reach on the main site I don't see why they would ever even consider doing a fake marketing ploy. As @cnosil we get literally hundreds of emails saying why was I never selected for a test and that we don't actually select testers every year on the forum. Given all that MGS has done for this community and more they deserve the benefit of a doubt. Again, we have also had a couple members win and promote that here.

  37. Again, Question is 1 is the way it is for a reason. Again, in the future we can look at expanding on it, however this gives us valuable information. All of the above doesn't provide value to where we can make improvements or focus some efforts. AMA is Ask Me Anything It was the question and answer video series done about a year ago with special guest etc.

  38. Like many I would have liked to pick 2 answers for question one. But I enjoy and use the discussions and testing often and find I have discussions with friends about some of the equipment testing. I am not on consistently varied by what is going on in life. But always refer to topics of interest and love the level and openess of the discussions and know moderators are doing great in the way everything is presented,. Thanks for being here and doing all you do.

  41. I know many could have had multiple selections and gave that consideration. However then when we look at it all it leaves some ambiguity to the data and more room for Interpretation. This way we have some more concrete answers and ability to move forward with the data provided.

  42. Completed - honestly though there were a couple that multiple answers could well have and should well have applied. Andcehy I come now is different from why I first came. I first came because of a preposterous claim that Srixon was making about its golf ball. I wanted answers about “side spin” and compression. I had my answers in minutes and have been here ever since. I’ve also never gained a Srixon ball and won’t because their claims were BS and they never once answered my inquiry. Every other OEM has answered when I’ve sent a question in,

  49. I had a fitting yesterday for a fairway wood and hybrid. Decent numbers and dispersion were good so I took home two new toys! Taylormade Stealth 2 HD 3- wood 16 degree Taylormade Stealth 2 HD 4 hybrid 22 degree The first thing the fitter did was check out the numbers on my current Cleveland XL Launcher Halo Hy-Wood 3+ 18 degree. We pitted it against a 19 degree HD 5 wood. The first chart shows the comparison with the Hy-Wood on top and the HD 5 wood on the bottom. Then I hit an HD 4 Hybrid to compare to the 5 wood and they were so close that we decide the 4 hybrid would work great with a fairway wood closing out the gaping. The HD 3 wood fit nicely.
