  1. Mornin everyone! I stepped away for a couple of days and can't believe many pages I had to go through to catch up on this thread. Getting ready to head out for an 18hole net team scramble this morning. Weather is supposed to be low 80's, blue skies and light winds.

  2. Good morning all; it’s day something of some duration of time. Days seem to run together as they are all pretty much the same. get up, go to home office, work some, check forum, go do most wanted testing, go to bed….back to beginning. will be a tweaks to the schedule today since golf will be on at 10ish so the TV will be on in the background. Tomorrow will actually be different since I have to go to the office to teach a class…still tweaking the slide deck today.

  4. Good morning from a still dark WNY @Lacassem your photo is a nice preview to what is coming very soon as the terminator sweeps across our time zone. This middle of the week has a dentist appointment and Caz Park GC is open today for the one day hole in the weather and will fit nicely between appt and dinnertime. With the real prospect of outdoor golf on 3/22/2023 in Western NY, the hot mug of coffee and its on-deck thermos threesome is a great start to a day with golf in it

  6. Morning everyone, up early this morning to get some grading done for the class I am teaching. Always feel great when I wake up and get the ball rolling like that for the day. Looking forward to the warm weather today. We tapped out maple tree and the sap is flowing like crazy with the weather. Got probably a gallon alone from yesterday, had to empty it yesterday afternoon and then again this morning. Won't amount to much but it is always fun to make a little of your own.

  8. GM, up early for coffee & breakfast. Working on tuning irrigation system this morning cleaning out grass/weeds and adjusting sprinkler heads. Neighbor down street in having entire yard resodded and I grabbed a little bit to fill in a couple bad spots in my yard.

  10. GM Y'all!!! HAPPY DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! The weather is still kinda dreary(drizzly/foggy-at least the winds not blowing) and we're heading to the tee times on the weekend!!!!! The greens should be REALLY receptive. Hope those that are getting out and enjoying better weather have amazing rounds

  11. Morning all, last day of the weekend for me. Going to change the oil in the commuter car, get the motorcycle uncovered and put the battery back in, and get the snowblower put away for the year. But first some coffee and eggs to start the day. Hope it’s a great day for everyone

  12. Good morning everyone! We've made it to the halfway point of most of our work weeks. There's a light sprinkle going on right now with forecasted rain for the rest of the day. My coffee is nice and warm as I'm sitting here working on my morning motivation. I hope all of you have a wonderful day.

  13. Well, the good news is, no blizzards in the forecast this week! The only golfing for me since November has been in my mancave with a launch monitor... That said, I took up bowling last year and found some more golfing partners to play with when our courses finally open (sometime next month, I HOPE!).

  14. Morning! Late this morning - been a busy document-heavy morning here at work, but the day got off to a lovely start - coffee, kids in funny, weird mood, and then sunshine poked through as we walked out to the car to head to school, and this guy showed up. Super fleeting, happy to have seen it, and it feels like it bodes well for the rest of the week (wife's bday is tomorrow, snip-snip healing well, golf soon, etc.). Happy Wednesday, folks!

  15. GM... going to be a warm 64º and sunny today, but the course f...ed up. No frost delay this morning and it's 35º, but apparently we have a 2 hour "ice delay" because they ran the irrigation last night! We have had a 10:40am tee time with friends we haven't played with yet this year, and we may not get out until noon-ish. So, time to have another cup of coffee and a late breakfast since we won't be done playing until dinner time.

  17. Days run together all the time after you retire. Except on days I don't play golf, my days look like... get up, go to home office, work some (chores), check forum, go do most wanted testing, hit balls in hitting bay, go to bed….back to beginning.

    How'd you play?

After struggling the past 4 tournaments with my irons not knowing where they were going .(left or right) And After some practice at X-Golf facilities found something and was finally able to correct it. More on my grip setup, was more weak setup for my previous irons, now with the new ones apparently that grip was no bueno anymore. Short game and putting still strong. Last 2 tournaments first one at Fossil Creek was able to win that, it was a steady round for the most part and second one at WhiteStone came in 2nd (I should have won, but my existing weakness of bunker play derailed my chances. Almost pull it off.) I was on a roll on the front 9 until bunker got me.. That's my next big push fix my bunker play.

  21. GM all, happy hump day! Light drizzle this morning but mild temps and highs in the low 50s. Snow melt off has been rapid the last few days and it's brining the promise of outdoor golf. Yesterday was an absolutely BEAUTIFUL spring day here in WI. The usual schedule of work, run on lunch break, work some more and go home is on tap for today.

    How'd you play?

Way too much good news in here, let me spoil the mood. As @MattWillGolf will surely attest, it was another really cold day down here. A frost delay in the middle of March? Ugh. After winning 3x and taking 2nd the last 4 weeks in my Tuesday members league, I birdied 2 of the first 6 holes on the Love Course in Barefoot. I actually thought to myself “my days of struggling on a golf course are over!” Hah! Not so fast, Johnny boy. The wheels came off on the back 9 and I closed my round with a triple bogey 7 on 17 followed by a “I’m picking up, give me a 10 after dunking my second ball in the water on 18. At that point, it didn’t matter whether I finished or not. I crawled in with my tail between my legs, finishing with a 93. After a few scotches in the clubhouse, I was numb enough to not care. I’ll chalk today up to one of those days we have that keeps us humble. On a happier note, I never thought I’d successfully replace my Yes! Tracy putter, but a few months ago I bought a Cameron 5.5… this thing is amazing. I love it. (Wait… I didn’t just jinx myself again, did I?)

  23. Yes, that is the truth. I just realized that I’ve been at my current employer for almost 8 years now, feels like half that to be honest. Plus my kids (5 & 3) are growing up way too fast. I know the years are going to go faster than I want.

  25. Morning folks. Not sure of the agenda today, but much like Walter Sobchek in The Big Lebowski, "I'm finishing my coffee." I may indulge my other hobby and bring my sports cards to the local shop, see if I can turn some cardboard scribbled with ink into some tee times. I won't fall in the trap of playing 3 days in a row. Whenever I do that day 3 is a scoring nightmare and confidence killer. The fact I played well the past 2 days, posted -4 net on a new course yesterday and had spurts of excellent putting with the new putter all point to taking a day to reinforce those positives.

    How'd you play?

I played the for first time this year yesterday in the Denver, CO area. I had back surgery 1/11/23 so I could only walk for the first 6 weeks after surgery. No bending, lifting, twisting for 6 weeks. Then I started physical therapy 3 weeks ago. I walked 18 holes and shot an 89. I played conservative not wanting to hurt the back. I felt good after a round for the first time in 2 years! I can’t wait to get out and play again tomorrow!

  28. A more complete perspective here and I agree 100%. Staying mentally focused during a round is a difficult undertaking even for PGA professionals.

  29. ... Hahaha fair enough but it really is, although including a double is probably a little too simple. Even a PGA Tour player can have a blow up hole but it is the rare exception. I am certainly capable of a *S* with a wedge putting me in the desert or blade/chunk a chip. But those are rare mental mistakes when trying to do too much. Add in a 3 putt (or worse) when in an impossible position on the green to be fair. But I am talking the blow up holes of triples and higher or a really dumb double that kill so many scorecards. ... Hit a bad drive and then just put it back in play, followed by a shot on or near the green and a two put or up and down for a bogie, a double if you don't get up and down. But a mid and certainly low index player should not be making multiple bad shots on one hole is my point.

    How'd you play?

It's always fun to be able to start participating in this thread again.... League started tonight. Even though I haven't touched a club in about 4 months, everything was pretty good. 3 pars, 5 bogies, and an eagle for a +3 (38). The eagle came on a par 5 with a temp tee box that only shaved about 20-30 yards off the length, but more importantly, it allowed me to cut the corner of the dogleg a bit. I didn't intend to, but that's what happened. Stuck a 6 iron from about 165 to 4 feet and buried the putt. Driver was good. Irons were solid contact but I pushed a few wide. Short game was ok given the early season greens.

  31. My BIG boss came in yesterday to give me my 10 year pin and congratulated me for my service...... not really sure where those years went, to be honest. I'm looking at anywhere from 2-5 years (my choice-so far) before I have that NICE golfers schedule.

  35. Picked up some new Srixon zx5mkII 6-pw. Fitted at truespec orlando. It’s outside so I didn’t hit off a mat. had pxg 0211 from about 4 years ago. Big difference in control and feel. Of course the srixons are forged whereas the pxg’s where not. Higher flight, narrow dispersion and buttery feel. Lack of vibration is also a plus.

    Sub70 golf

I posted this on the Sub 70 Facebook Page but I figured that I would share it here also..... Ladies and Gentlemen….and anybody else that cares….I had my fitting, with Neal Golyshko, last night. What a majestic experience!!!!!! Neal is so friendly and puts you at ease. God knows that he’s seen plenty of good swings and plenty of bad swings….and it’s probably hard to keep dealing with hacks like me…yet keep a smile on his face. The Seventy is as professional as it comes with regards to location and ambience. Anyway….what I really appreciated is the fact that Neal tried to help me, instead of just selling me something. He saw two fairly minor things, in my swing, that I had just gotten lazy with over the years. I made those two small corrections and I am now ready for Q School (that is sarcasm, by the way). Seriously….by identifying two small flaws, I improved things all around. Now I just have to remember them. I also had the opportunity to meet Cody Varga…and put a face with a name. Cody has been helping me, over the last year, via phone/email but he actually gave me a one on one tour of the business side of Sub 70. Got to see the warehouse, where the clubs are built, etc., etc An absolutely outstanding experience and I highly recommend it to anyone who is considering the trip.

  44. Lyman Orchard was one of the nicer ones. My company golf league played at Hunter Golf Club. I also liked Tradition but that was up near the airport in Windsor. I lived out near New London and commuted to Meriden. I'm more familiar with the courses out East.

  46. Getting serious this year about correcting my swig so I recently bought the open box Tour Striker Plane Mate on their website. Really liking it. First few days it’s helped my wedge game out immensely. Looking forward to seeing how well it helps my irons next!

  47. The Results are IN and the Winners are ready to be announce. We had a late surge of golfers and teams being built and ended up with 11 Team Scores. The 2023 MGS Forum Member Players Low Net Team Champions are: TEAM CON9HOLES @Connorn2 and @richk9holes with their combined net -4... think about that for a minute... two scores combined... 4 under par net!!! Tremendous play guys!! Congratulations. Low Gross 2 Balls Combined score goes to TEAM FEAST MODE @Golf2Much and (sheepishly) @Golfspy_TCB with a combined gross score of +11. Most Net Birdies, to no surprise, was also the low net score posted with 14 combined birdies or better. But in the true spirit of highlighting our great tourney play - the TEAM OLD GEASERS @tony@CIC and @fozcycle posted 13 total net birdies. Longest Drive of the tourney goes to @Peaksy68 with a 302 yarder. and without exact measurements (unless all three of the KP posters ended EXACTLY 3 feet from the cup), our closest to the pin winners are @daviddvm @tony@CIC and @snicerz. All winners above will be sporting the MGA PLAYERS CHAMPION BADGE until the end of Season 1. Congrats to all the winners and thanks to EVERYONE who participated.!

  49. I've been doing some analysis and over the last 12 rounds 80ish% of the blowup holes (double or worse) over the last dozen or so rounds start with a bad tee shot. I get greedy and overswing or I'm not accounting for natural dispersion, make a poor target selection, and end up in jail. I'm not going OB but I'm not exactly keeping it 'in play' so to speak. In any case it seems like low hanging fruit to just aim better so I went over to a digital range today to figure out my dispersion pattern and to play around with the hosel adjustments to see if I can 'self fit' to tighten up dispersion. For PXG the standard setting is the most upright and draw biased so I wasn't expecting much out of adjustment since I'm basically playing a baby fade already. That said I spent about 40 minutes with the driver, starting with standard (9 degrees loft & 60 Lie) , then Big + (10.5 Degrees Loft 58.5 Lie), then PXG (9 Degrees Loft 57 Lie), then finally Big - (7.5 Loft 58.5 Lie). The 4 cardinal points on the adjustments. I figured that would give me a reasonable idea of what to expect from the 4 in between settings. Standard was pretty much what I expected. Solid contact misses were way right, toe misses were 5-10 yards left of center, and good contact was clustered just right of the line. Spin was higher than I wanted at 2800ish but launch was okay at 14/15. Dispersion wasn't bad but it was wider than I thought it would be on a series of well struck shots. Big + was a surprise my first surprise. Tighter dispersion. Similar to slightly lower launch angle despite the higher loft, better contact toward the center of the face, lower spin, and a better descent angle. PXG was more in line with standard for dispersion but was longer on average. Same launch and spin as Big+ but I could step on it with every swing and make good contact. Big - was a disaster. I don't have the swing speed for a 7.5 degree driver. I struggled with good contact and it looked all wrong to the eye. Seeing as how I'd gotten more warmed up as I went along I ran back through them in the same order with pretty much the same results. Idiot me wants to play the PXG setting and channel my inner Bryson, but smart me knows the dispersion was better at Big+. I'm thinking a happy medium may be the Flat + setting (10 degree loft, 67.5 Lie) thats in between the two which is where I left it before my time ran out. We'll see how it plays on Friday. Overall, it was a great session. I have not focused on driver that specifically for a while and I feel even more comfortable with it now.

  50. Dear Maltby TSW wedges, I'm thinking that maybe it's time we had a break from each other. For the past 2 years you've been nothing but great to me. You've been loyal, reliable, and everything that I could want in a wedge. The truth is, I've had my eye on a nother set lately and just can't get them off of my mind. We both know I have my weaknesses and it's clear that you deserve better. I didn't want things to end this way but feel that you need to know the truth. Here is the new set of wedges that I'll be spending my days with. Sure they're sexy, shiny, and nearly new.. but just know that nothing can ever replace the moments we shared and I'll always have a place for you in my heart. OOXXOOXoXXx.. Hug hug, kiss kiss, hug hug, big kiss, little hug, kiss kiss, little kiss (bonus point movie quote) Stu
