  1. Good morning! Haven’t really posted here cuz it’s the same ol’ nearly every day. Breakfast of champions: Then this MWF: Then the gym: On the weekends, it’s me holding up a cup of coffee watching my son’s travel baseball team. Rinse and repeat.

  2. Yeah, yeah. I said I was signing off for a while… but, one last post. My 2nd youngest started pitching tonight, 2 Strike outs, 1 walk, and 1 run allowed. Super excited for the little dude, well he is big, but still little. I bet he is throwing it close to 60mph at age 11. First year pitching, and even really playing organized baseball due to the Vid, and the last move.

  4. Good Friday morning all. A nice spring morning here, savoring the last sip of coffee before a day full of fun(not). Last night I couldn’t get out until almost 7 which killed my chance at some practice. Hopefully tonight out by 5 and hitting the range on the way home. As always the clubs are in the back seat waiting to see what the work gods allow. Hope it’s a great day for every single one of you!

  5. Good morning and happy Friday everyone! It's going to be a bit rainy today but tomorrow looks good. Right now, I've got a 2 p.m. tee time tomorrow of my playing partner feels up to it. He's been having a bad reaction to some meds he's taken and to top it off, he was just diagnosed with vertigo. I feel terrible for him and hope they can get things figured out. I hope all of you have a good start to your weekend.

    How'd you play?

Got out for the first round of the year and it was awesome. Front nine was great played in 2 over 37 with a chip in birdie on the par 3 sixth that looked close I started walking toward it and halfway there it fell in! Lost it a bit on the back going +5 for 41 with a double on one hole. Most of the day the driver was a nice slight fade right down the middle, and then I had my shot of the day here on this hole, I drove the green! Its a shorter hole at 300 and plays a few feet down hill, but I don't care, knocked it to 33 feet and had a tap in birdie. 296 total, still 4 short of the long term goal but what a time for it. Also then hit it to 10 feet on another par 3. Greens were sandy and bumpy so tough on the putting but only one 3 putt coming from 72 feet or so away. Overall it was a wonderful day and starting with a 78 is never bad.

  8. GM fellow spies. Sun is rising, birds are chirping and I don’t have to work today. 9:10am tee time and life is goooooood Dropping my oldest off at school around 8 then heading home to get my clubs and head to the course with my youngest. His first time out on the course and interesting will be the best word for it I have a feeling LOL. Also talked to Dr. about our son’s rash and he thinks maybe a mild sun allergy. Hoping if that’s the case it is mild and have read it should go away on its own within 10 days. He loves being outside, as you all know he’s my golfing partner and loves to fish, so hoping that’s all it is and it’ll resolve soon and not be a recurring issue throughout the summer. Hope everyone has a great Friday!

  9. Morning all! What a day yesterday; practice, workout at the fitness center and then later on wife and I played 9 (on my least favorite 9). But still overall a very good day. Looks like the same agenda for today; workout, practice, and probably 9. Weather is a bit different today. Yesterday started out with cloudless blue skies and ended up dry but in the mid 80's. So far this morning we got fog again so I assume while the temps will be roughly the same, it'll be a bit more humid. FYI some good news I posted on the Shotscope thread my X5 is on the way (a week earlier than originally forecast) - can't wait to put it into use.

  10. Aftermorn all! I'm behind on the this thread. Just all is well out there with you. Was out at the range earlier today when the place got overrun with what I'm assuming was a school field trip for 12 year olds. They were having loads of fun. Have a great one!

    Bump and run

This is a topic near and dear to my heart, and my score. When I was learning golf what seems like 100 years ago... my Grandpa told me over and over to use a 7 iron and let the ball roll to the hole. He showed me his technique many times. I also watched him try to loft a PW or SW over an obstacle (sand, mound, what have you), or attempt to use the 7 iron technique on a tight pin with no green to work with. These were not pretty. He wasn't comfortable with a chip or pitch shot that required the ball to get up into the air... looking back, probably because he thought he has to lift it into the air... and we all know where that is headed... chili dips, skulls, 2nd or 3rd attempts to do the same thing again. It wasn't that long ago that I was a one club chip/pitch player... if I was around the green, my log wedge came out of my bag, and I would try to gauge the lie and the green and how much spin I would be putting on the ball and how much it would check from said conditions, and I would "throw" the ball up in the air somewhere hear the hole and hope I calculated all the factors correctly for the ball to hit the green at the perfect distance and release to the hole the perfect way. I was decent, but not good. I gave away a lot of up and downs I have come to realize. Last year, I started practicing with my 50* and my PW and my 9i around the greens, and work to put the ball on the green as early in the distance as I could, and let the ball roll out to the hole. So in essence... a combination of my Grandpa's teachings, and my own lob technique. And depending on the danger between me and the pin... and how much green there is to work with... I could use anything between a 9 iron and my 58*. I try to make my swing length, or how hard I swing on a pitch or chip as consistent as possible. Same length swing with different club loft gets you different landing spots and different roll out... which allows me to really dial in my distance control. Of course there are outliers, cases where you need to swing harder (longer) or softer (shorter) because of the specific conditions I am faced, and feel comes into play a little bit more... but adding in the range of dialed in distances using "bump and runs" or what I would better describe as "loft and release control" based on the conditions has increased my up and downs (and chip ins). I tend to lean on my 50* more than any other option when chipping and pitching... I have confidence in that club's distance more than others, and I vary the position in my stance to increase or lower the loft at impact... and use the PW or 9i when I have a LONG way to go to get to a pin so I need it to roll a while, more as specialty clubs for chipping. If I find myself using a PW or a 9i a few times a round... I know my approach game needs some practice so I'm not so far away from the pin... haha.

  12. Very early (late GM also known as goodnight or GN) when you have a 2pm tee time you can stay up til 2am as it happens. Using the time to get everything ready for tomorrow. Bringing SUNSCREEN and 2 big towels one for clubs one for face/neck. 3 Vice Pro and 3 Callaway Supersoft as a h2h. Hoping a late tee time at a par 34 let's me take plenty of extra swings. Speaking of H2H my Iron Title Fight gets into "full swing." Sub70 699 set is in a bag with Callaway Apex '19 irons for the first time. No catfights yet. I kept them docile by putting little hats on all of them. Lucky I had enough it might have been touchy if one of them had to wear the SW cover. The 56° wouldn't mind it likes to air dry after a bath. Speaking of, you can see the "bench" in the photo below seething, particularly the 4W and hybrids who aren't used to being left at home since purchase. They aren't big on course management or testing new equipment, or me hitting my 5 and 6i straighter than them currently. They certainly don't like being left dirty in the vestibule. Just wait til a bunch of them go back in the garage after I clear that space they will be so mad at me.

  23. Same for me; most weekdays are the same. Would be boring repeating everything. Today I am still irritated with my play last night. My wife is doing a GNO so if isn’t raining I’ll probably head to the range to hit a bucket of balls and see if I can avoid the thin/topped shot. until then enjoying my morning Diet Coke, listening/watching the RBC, and getting though another work day.

  26. As ELECTRIC as this photo is, still makes me laugh thinking of PM's 12 inch vertical. That's eerily reminiscent to the feeling of it being sunny and 80 all week and getting excited for a big weekend, but then seeing rain in the forecast. Regardless, still a great friday here as I sip my coffee and gear up for some fun this weekend. Enjoy it crew, hope to see some of you went low today.

    How'd you play?

... This shot should be a staple in everyones repertoire. Grip pressure should be the same as your normal swing, ball back in stance, crisp descending contact * and 3/4 to 1/2 swing with speed through contact. By speed I don't mean increasing your speed, just not slowing down for a short shot because speed equals spin. Most know this of course but just in case you need a urethane covered ball to execute this shot. I have players I am paired up with ask me from time to time "how do you get the ball to skip and stop like that? Mine always rolls out." And they are using a Velocity, Distance + or Super Soft ball. * Lots still try and get the club head under the ball either consciously or unconsciously. If you struggle with this shot or tend to scoop, try and make contact with your focus on the front of the ball and not the back of the ball.

    How'd you play?

Was able to get 9 holes in this morning with my dad before work. We had a great time and threw a little friendly competition into the mix. He showed up with a brand new custom fit Rogue ST Max D that he failed to mention to me since he got it mid this winter . I ended up shooting 4 over thru 9 which I'll take because the greens still need to be cut/rolled and some fairways are at the same length of the rough. 4 bogeys, 5 pars. 3-4 really good birdie opportunities but I couldn't get a putt to drop. trying to get as much play in as I can as the temps will be dropping next week.

  36. First 18 Holes Played with Paradym Irons I decided to put the Paradym Irons with HZRDUS Silver 75-S shafts in my bag for my final tournament (other than next week’s Tour Championship) on the winter golf tour yesterday. Initially, I was not going to play the Paradym Irons until I got a chance to hit them on a launch monitor, but since yesterday’s tournament really meant nothing in the overall scheme of things (I was already qualified for the Tour Championship and nowhere near contention for Player of the Year, and my league handicap has long been established at 15.1 and was not going to change), I decided to give them a workout prior to playing in my first club tournament this weekend. We arrived at the course about an hour prior to our scheduled start time, giving me plenty of time to warm up on the range, and the irons showed a lot of promise on both the range and around the chipping green. Here is a brief summary of my results and observations from my first 18-hole round with the Paradym Irons: They are very easy to hit and quite workable in both directions. Distances with all of these irons is extremely good and on-average about 5 to 7 yards longer than any irons that I own, with the exception of my Cobra King Forged Tec X set (the Paradyms actually did give me a couple extra yards vs those Cobras, particularly with the PW and AW). The Paradym AW is fantastic for short pitches and chip shots, and I managed to save a couple of pars on missed greens using the AW around those greens, plus a one-putt bogey on the first hole, where I was in “jail” off the tee and had to punch out sideways and then missed the green by 10 yards with my next shot, using a hybrid not one of the Paradym irons. Feel is “crisp”, but definitely not objectionable. I have not carried a 5-iron in at least two years, but I took the 5-hybrid out of my bag and put the Paradym in instead. If I am going to be using and reviewing these irons, I might as well use all of the set! This was an excellent move, as the Paradym 5-iron proved to be a perfect layup club on two of the par 5s and was a great choice on a 190-yard par 3. Any fears that I may have had regarding whether the HZRDUS graphite shafts would be too stiff for me in S-flex proved to be unfounded; this flex is perfect for my 80-82 MPH iron swing. More updates to follow as I get more experience with the Paradym irons.

    How'd you play?

Well, my reign of terror is over. Owen wiped the floor with me today. We played nine at Buena Vista today, another beautiful day. We started out by piping our drives on the first tee and while Owen kept the momentum going, that was pretty much my highlight. He got his first birdie of the season while I duffed my chip into the bunker and took two shots to get out on my way to a triple. While nearly all the bunkers at River Heights are off to the side of the greens, most of the bunkers at Buena Vista front the greens. My recent bump and run play doesn't fly here. My chips were mostly less than stellar. Owen, meanwhile, had a great striking day. Putting for both of us was subpar; greens were very slow and we could never hit it hard enough. I shot a (+13) 45 while Owen went (+6) 38.

    How'd you play?

Tempo is definitely an issue for me right now -- particularly in tournaments. That said, I'm pretty sure its just one of the many symptoms of the mental and course management side of my game being in a poor spot. In a regular round that doesn't matter, I'll hit a couple bad shots, brush it off, and find my way back eventually. Tournament, I lose the same mentality and focus and just ramp the pressure up on myself until I fold. I'm pretty sure the reason I always 'figure it out' on the 18th is that the pressure is gone. I've already done the damage and I've hit a point of acceptance where I can think clearly again. I'm my own worst enemy on the golf course.

  43. GM, had my two cups of coffee allotment before 6am, then my core flexibility exercises, strength training (such as it is), and some speed work in my hitting bay while my wife went to her Rotary meeting. Now it's 10am and I'm deciding whether to mow the lawn or head to the course for some short game work. Fridays are the busiest day at our course and no tee times available unless we make them two weeks in advance. I don't usually play on Fridays, since we play both Sat and Sun. I know!! I'll go to the course... then if I feel like it... I'll mow the lawn.

    How'd you play?

Played yesterday after work at the local muni course, it's April in New England so still in the early part of the season. Walked with a buddy and was able to get 14 holes in before we had to call it due to darkness. Shot +9 over the 14 holes with 2 birdies, and I definitely left some shots out there. Over the weekend I played at a nice private course with some of the tougher and faster greens you can find in the area and so last night it took me maybe a little too long to adjust to the slower greens. Nothing like watching short putt after short putt. On the plus side of things the long ball was working! A couple holes have some elevated tee boxes and plenty of room to swing away and was able to get past the 300yd mark and still kept it in the fairway. Turned one of those drives into a tap in birdie and the other one....no comment. I feel like I am putting it all together and waiting for the day where every aspect of the game is clicking at the same time, that'll be the day!

    Bump and run

I think it just comes down to the situation. But what I think is overlooked is just a regular chip. If you keep this same motion and just adjust the club for higher or lower I think you can cover 80 to 90% of the shots needed around the green with the one motion.

Wow, what a difference today. Still had some miscues, but outside of the first hole (double bogey) and last hole (really messed this one up, ye olde , I played bogey golf, which I should've had at least a birdie look if I could chip worth a damn (bogeyed the hole after landing my second shot about 35 yards to the right of the green...). Really sent my driver today, drives of 272 and 264...

  49. Placeholder Who is Peter Lacasse? I am not totally positive after 62 years, but I guess that he is still being developed! He is a loyal friend, competitive to a fault, trained Chef (Johnson and Wales 1981) working in and around the Boston area as an Executive Chef for 8 years. Then I decided to take a Culinary Arts Teachers position at my old High School in Attleboro MA. For 32 years I was a teacher, Track and Field Coach and whatever coach the children needed me to be. I retired from teaching and coaching in June 2020. My wife of 39 years Kelly, totally out of my league, is a major contributor in who I am! We have 4 adult children, Candice 38, Mark 34, Jason 31 and Sean 28. Three are married with children, 8 grandchildren, and our baby is still searching for that girl. The first time I played real golf, not just swinging clubs in a field with found golf balls from a local range or golf course, was at Stone E Lea golf course at 16 with a borrowed set of clubs. Then I found a used set of Spalding Elite Irons 2-pw. I continued to play golf (not very seriously for 40 years) mostly playing 2-5 times a year for fun. A 105 average (low 93 Lucky day) and a high of 132 with an eagle from 165. Over the past 5 years I have played more often, and since 2020, have taken a more competitive approach, playing 20-27 rounds a year (once a week). Overall, my average score now is 96 with a low of 88 (twice in the past 2 years) and a much more consistent Iron game with some gifted Ping 710's. I have only owned 3 sets of irons the Spaulding’s 25+ years, a boxed set of Wilson staffs on liquidation 15+ years and the Ping 710’s I use now. Pretty much the same with Woods Wilson 1200’s 1,3,5 And Taylor made Bubble shafts 1,3,5. When I Retired I celebrated with a fitting for woods and purchased Ping G410 driver and 3W. I never was much for gear as I felt that it’s the player and not the tools. After getting my new tools I have seen a big difference in good –great contact and am really enjoying the game more. MGS has also helped me with other spies thought processes to enhance the most important part of the game “ME”. So excited to test the the OnCore ELIXR because I am really starting to feel the ball off the club and it seems to be a good fit for my swing speeds around 92. Also to see how it compares to the Callaway Supersoft which I like to play! The price point is good and want to see if they can reduce the spin off my driver while maintaining the higher spin on High Irons while maintaining that soft feel. LETTTTS GOOOOOO! THE UNBOXING 4/28/23 I was so excited when I came home to see the box on the front stairs. When I opened it my first impression was simple box cover (gray scale) with just a little gold. Simple and not flashy. The words “THE PERFECT FEEL” stands out but not the largest font. I like the idea of feel, because I have started to feel a difference in club to ball over the last few years. When I picked up the ball the cover seems to have a gripping property, not sticky but similar to rubber but not soft. Something I haven’t felt before on a ball. I like their OnCore logo simple with a splash of color. It might be a nice look on the box also. I compared the dimple pattern to the Callaway supersoft and was similar in the larger med and small dimples, but the Callaway has a hexagon shape and to the eye a more defined look and depth versus a more rounded tapered look. I would guess that less defined dimples would produce less drag, and the grippe cover might create more spin off the higher irons. Overall, my first impression of quality and looks are really good. Hopefully the promise of enhanced feel around the green, added distance with more accuracy off the tee is legit and they prove to be durable. Looking forward to doing some chipping in my backyard and getting on the course with them. Here we goooo! Oncore Elixr Golf Ball: Final Review 5/26/23 First Impression: 10/10 The OnCore Claim that ELIXR delivers exceptional accuracy and control was my main focus. “A premium cast urethane cover delivers a soft, pure feel off the club face and gives the ELIXR great greenside control, durability and first class performance”. My game ball is the Callaway Supersoft which matches my 89-94 swing speed. One day on multiple holes I hit both the Elixr and Supersoft so I could compare sound and feel with the same shot. My first impression was they were similar sounding, like a wood bat, with a sweet hit on my Irons (Ping G710) and the same muffled metallic ping off the driver and fairway woods. When hit well the Elixr felt lighter and even noticeably lighter with a slight toe hits. In chipping, the ball felt soft off the wedge and 7iron as well as the putter. The ball seems to hold a line once it starts rolling. It also seemed to roll out more on drives and fairway woods while checking up great on greens. It might be the perimeter weight but also there seemed to be a slight tacky feel to the ball that stayed as long as I didn’t lose it (a couple times over 13 holes) Aesthetics: 9/10 I like their OnCore logo simple with a splash of color. Nicely stated and enhances the look of the ball. The box and sleeve have a rich look with the gray scale shades, but It might be a nice look to have the splash of red on the box also. The dimple pattern was similar, to my gamer ball, having large, medium and small dimples, round tapered depth that seemed to be a bit shallower than the Supersoft’s hexagon shape. The cover held up very well even hitting a few trees and gravel/stone cart paths. There seemed to be a stain on the ball, probably from a pine I hit, that did not wipe off but did after a good wash. It really looked unblemished after 13 straight holes. The putting –elixr-- line took some time to get used to but works. The ball looks really good on a tee with the logo on top. Overall, I really like the packaging and look. The Numbers: 20/20 The Elixr outperformed my gamer in every way. The feel, with overall longer drives (less spin) on my last 2 rounds have had 3 over 265(one played like 280) On the tee with the driver and 3 wood (14.5) gaining about 10 yards more from this ball with keeping my ball in the rough more often than woods on bad hits. On upper Irons and wedges the distance seems to be the same but I am definitely getting much more spin. The ball holds the green well and on 5 occasions (2 rounds) the ball actually backed up which almost never happens. On The Course: 20/20 I am one who never felt that a ball can help your shots. For most of my life whatever ball was in the bag I played. Over the past 6 years I have been playing the Supersoft about 95% of the time for consistency reasons because they match my swing speed. I have noticed more consistent results with it, but was not sure if it was because I was playing more. The OnCore Elixr has changed that in my mind. Off the Tee: Feel, sound, distance and less slice (more times is just a fade) has put me in less trouble to start. I find myself in more fairways and slight ruff, in playable situations, than in woods taking a drop. Approach: This is where I noticed the biggest difference for me. I think that I have stopped or backed it up on a green maybe 5 times in the past 2 plus years and have done it 5 times in the last 2 rounds. The ball checks up well with some roll out. The ball flight seems to be straighter with slight toe/heel hits and the overall distance with the high Irons is the same as my gamer. Ball Flight: I usually hit the ball with a high flight with all my clubs and the Elixr maintains that flight constantly. The driver woods and 3 hybrid do seem to roll out more than normal but maintain a good arch flight. Around the green: I haven’t noticed much difference here because I usually use a 7 iron to bump and run. The roll after the bump is really good but not a noticeable difference from my usual ball. I did try some flop type shots that worked out well so I plan to try more. Putting: The Elixr feels good off the putter, not heavy with a nice click off the face. It rolls great and seems to hold a line very well. My putting distance has been really good when using the OnCore with not as many short of the hole putts. Definitely fewer than before, could this be confidence and better putting days maybe! Confidence it the putt, I believe, is the name of that game! At first the alignment markings were a slight adjustment because it just seemed to look different. I really can’t put an exact reason it just did. After a few holes with one putts over 10 feet, it didn’t seem to matter. The Good, The Bad, The In-between: 19/20 As a new tester I really enjoyed the process of being chosen to test the balls. I was so excited when I received the email that I was a tester, but it took way too long to get them. It seems that without a fitting needed OnCore should have been able to ship right away but wasn’t able too. It was really nice that OnCore, owning up to the delay, sent an additional dozen Elixrs as compensation which I appreciated. That shows me that they are customer service oriented which is important when you only do direct orders and shipping. Once I received the shipping notice everything has been super positive since. Play It or Trade It: 19.5/20 I have a hard time justifying the price of many golf balls such as Chrome Soft $4.15 a ball and that the Super Soft at $2.08 is more palatable. With the Elixr at $2.50 and good discounts with 3dz./ 6 dz purchases $2.35/ $2.10 make the price point very comparable to my gamer. With that being said I really feel that the apparent advantages to my game with the Elixr it is now going to be the one I play. As usual really bad swing days will = Whatever balls I find are in play. Conclusion: The OnCore Elixr golf ball seems to back all its claims. I definitely am getting more distance, more roll on landing, and control off the tee. My intermediate and high irons are tracking better on miss hits and great on pure hits. The feel is nice and soft even on slight miss hits. I am seeing greater bite and stopping ability on the greens making me feel I can be more aggressive on approaches. My confidence around the green has increased and especially putting with the Elixr. The OnCore company seems to have made a great ball for the golfer with a high 80’s – low 90’s golf swing who needs some forgiveness with their ball. I can truly see this ball helping me shave strokes off my game with control, distance and more importantly “Confidence”. Final Score: 97.5/100 On a side note: I recently gifted 2 sleeves of the Elixr to a friend who is a low to mid 90's swing and a 10 index. His response after playing many rounds was "HE HAS A NEW BALL". He felt he hit a straighter ball with more distance and control. I guess I am part of the OnCore sales staff!!!!
