  1. Good morning Spies! It’s great to hear about all you have going on today. Enjoy your days. it seems like a good day on tap here. Knocking out some work, and then talking mid morning with Kerry from Red Rooster about fitting and getting the test going. I’m excited to learn more about RR, the Sussex glove, etc. Then some range time for me to try to overcome the lingering effects of Thursday’s simply brutal 18. And then beach and family time. I wish you all excellent days!

  2. Getting ready for soccer practice. Won’t be running around today so hopefully I can be a help corralling children. For now coffee with hope (she likes to sleep in). One of my favorite mugs from Maine. Ready to camp.

  3. Good morning from an it's too early for summer but OK will deal with it as tomorrow it ends WNY on this Saturday morning, Coffee in the mug for this weekend day as travel to Rochester is next to [1] pick up son at RIT for a morning togetherness and drop off things to him [2] while we also get breakfast from a diner so he can have eggs and pancakes and [3] we go to pick up my 2023 PGA Championship credentials and uniform for the 3rd week of May when I have my first opportunity to be inside the ropes as a volunteer might even look to get in a round somewhere between Rochester and home as son can only afford a couple hours with me with his rigorous studies in his 4th year as a Mechanical Engineering Technology student. Thankful for everything in this post including my MGS Forum friends and I do hope golf is a part of your day

  4. How did I play? I played like complete and utter crap! 13 strokes worse than the last time out, to be exact. Have been doing golf specific kettlebell workouts over the past 2-3 months and it’s extremely rewarding the distance gains I’m seeing with my driver off the tee … and it’s the lone positive takeaway from today’s round. But playing my childhood course in Miami on spring break with these two made it all worthwhile.

  5. Good morning everyone! I hope you all are having a good start to your Saturday. I've just gotten out of bed, let the dogs out, and have now settled on the couch in an attempt to drink my morning cup of coffee. It's sometimes a challenge since the dogs think them getting attention (which they do) is more important than drinking coffee. I've got a 2 o'clock tee time today and I'm looking forward to playing all 18 on a course that I've only been able to play the front once. I love playing tracks outside the ones here in town as I relish the challenge in not knowing what the day might bring. I hope you all have a day that's filled with either golf or family.

  6. gm all on another happily sunshine-y day here! We'd had so much grey yucky weather that the last few days have been really nice... ..so nice, in fact, that I'll just put off two necessary outdoor projects a little longer while poochie and I lounge on the back patio .. me with my coffee and forum and him with his view of his yard along with the vague scents and sounds of the neighborhood ... Enjoy the day everyone!

  8. Happy Saturday, spies! I have a pretty full day today. Hitting the gym first, then going to the golf shop to get a new 3W. Need to get to Home Depot to get a new towel bar for my 7 yo’s bathroom and then hang it. Also need to go to the same 7 yo’s soccer game and do laundry. Hoping to cut the grass this afternoon and then, if I’m lucky, do some lag drills. Oh yeah, I need to test my pool’s water and then adjust the chemicals . . . It’s been quite a week. Had a trial on Monday; when I got out, I found out I was selected as a tester for the OnCore VERO X1. Since then, been trying to catch up on work and life. Glad to be a part of the MGS community and am particularly grateful for this positive thread. Have a great day!

  9. Good morning fellow spies! 8am tee time scheduled for this morning that my oldest and I should finish JUST before the rain comes in. Chance of rain around 10am so we may get a little wet. This is going to be the last nice day for a good week based on the weather forecast, so our early April preview of summer is going to be interrupted. Can’t say I’m surprised as it is Wisconsin, after all (90% chance snow Monday with a low of 28° ) Hopefully after a week of cold, wet nonsense, we will get back to some nice days. Hoping everyone has a great weekend, and if you’re at all interested in how my round goes today, check out my “Journey to Breaking 90” thread linked below!

  10. Happy Saturday and Good Morning Spies. I had good intentions for a break from my busy work week and finding some much needed relaxation on the course today... but alas.... earwax So... a pot of coffee, the local news, and time spent with my family (my immediate family in the house, and my extended family here on the forum) awaits. I hope all your plans don't get rained out

    How'd you play?

Played 9 this afternoon with my honey .. on a really nice, sunny, warm day... Didn't score well but generally hit the ball pretty well, so happy with that! Putting was a little off on still bumpy, healing from aeration greens .. couldn't quite get the speed right plus had trouble with the line a few times... Wedges were pretty good when I needed them. Tee shots, as usual, were a bit of a mixed bag but did make solid contact a few times and at least moved the ball in the right direction every time (ie. no big ugly slice today ). Highlight hole today... a pretty straight Par 5 where the tee shot must clear the crest of a hill and the second shot .. if you can .. should clear the crest of a second, higher hill so you can see the green on your approach. Well... didn't hit a great tee shot .. low but straight .. hit the crest of the first hill and took a good bounce straight forward. Lying pretty in the middle leaving a looong second to get to the crest of the second hill .. and into a bit of a head on breeze .. loaded up the Cleveland Hy-Wood and drilled it! High, straight and ... right where I was looking! Got a little hung up on the breeze but landed and settled on the crest of the hill... Ok... about 138 left to the pin at the back of the green .. feeling good so pull the 8i (not the 7i) .. line up, set up, breathe out .. nailed it!! Pin high, maybe 10 feet left (towards the middle of the green). Sorry to brag but I was really, really happy with that shot - like if I could hit just one approach shot that nicely every round I'd be a happy golfer! And... struck the putt well .. on line, good speed .. but under-read the break a bit (as most putts so far did not seem to be breaking "as expected") so just missed on the low side for a tap in par... ...something that eluded me on that hole all last season!!

  12. Great that you can spend some quality time with your boy. That’s a treasure. Please keep us posted where you’re working at the PGA Championship. I have Saturday tickets and I know of several CNY spies who will be attending during the week. Are you a member of the Veteran Golfers Association? I’ve seen several posts about tournaments in the Buffalo area.

  13. GM, been up for a while why SWMBO decides on where we are going today. Farmers Market, or Marion Flea Market. Either way don’t care as there’s plenty of stuff to keep me occupied. We got a Tee Time for Tuesday at a course about as far a way as you can get from our neighborhood. Some guys may take cars but I’ll stick to cart, better having my own.

  16. We are still over a week away from having testers being announced and sign up is still open for a little while longer, however that doesn't mean we cannot have some fun and get started with the prechatter. @GolfSpy_BOS may or may not have a good way for determining the teams, which we have to run by the other mods. It would be fun and I think quite entertaining for all, as well as maybe raise the stakes a bit. As forum staff we are just so thankful for Cobra hoping back in and providing this amazing opportunity for the forum and community. We as staff could hardly wait to announce it and hope that all of those even if not selected decide to really jump in and take part of this. With weekly prizes, competitions and so much more this will be the ones test to not miss out on regardless if selected or not. Also please if you are on other social media channels and see Cobra 50th promotions. Please please drop them a like or follow as I know they would appreciate it! Let the fun begin! Memes, gifs, jokes, smack talk and so much more!

  17. Good Morning everyone!! Woke up to my usual Saturday morning cup of coffee in bed. I have a winner!! Sunny but 34º and a very short frost delay today; 9:30 tee time. Clouds rolling in, but high today is supposed to be 67º. Well, I didn't mow the lawn yesterday afternoon after my practice session, so I guess that's on for this afternoon since we may get a shower tomorrow.

    How'd you play?

Played Maplegate CC on Thursday. I call it my home course because I play about half of my rounds there. The layout is great with many picturesque holes, and really in good shape. Rumor is its the last season before it becomes a "SOLAR FARM!!!!!" Played much more consistent round with the Irons. Worked on my 54 degree chipping around the greens (instead of bump and run with the 7) and showed improvement. 30 putts with (2 -3 putts both stayed on the edge) some really good up and downs. Probably should have kept my driver in the bag but worked out the slice over the last 3 drives. 92/ 46-46 Front 2 pars 1 triple and a double, Back 1 double 8 boggies. Net 70. Overall feeling good about my game getting better. Looking to get down to maybe an 18 this year!!!!

  19. Top of the pot spies . Another great day in Surprise, AZ. Normally I'd be playing my Saturday foursome but staying disciplined about not playing until I see the PT next Tuesday. Yup, got into see the new doc (actually NP) yesterday, got a referral, and also got scheduled for PT. Just getting a clear diagnosis of what the heck the problem is will make me happy. While in this no play mode, I do spend time at the chipping and putting area at Granite Falls North course. It's a fantastic practice area that's quite large and allows (depending on number of folks there) wedge shots up to ~80 yards. The putting green is also huge and my new next door neighbor and I have been going over and having putting contests... .05/hole. I'm now up .10 after our Thursday afternoon match .

  20. Hit some balls on the range yesterday - just trying to keep the swing, that is coming along nicely enough, simple and fresh. Also went to the putting green and chipped and putted for 20 minutes or so. Playing today - looking forward to it. It's so funny, my handicap index is finally going up to where it should be and now, because I'm playing more, I'm starting to play better - I know I had some guys mumbling in some of the member guess matches mainly because I got to play up a set of tees - I pointed out that it washes in the handicap and that even if I'm 20 yards past them we are hitting the same iron into the green - which was absolutely the case. For crying out loud the guys complaining were in their 30's and I'm in my 60's. I didn't make the flights, I faithfully reported my handicap and I played exactly the way you might expect - in 6 matches I was right on my handicap twice and over it, once significantly, 4 times.

  21. I will offer a suggestion here as you are still a fairly new golfer, live not too far from me, and really need to both be properly fit, and also may need some lessons/assistance with the golf swing. A person/place that offers both the ability to fit and teach would be Trevor Parkinson at MW Golf in Rochester. A link to his website is below, and he is highly recommended by both established players, and new golfers alike. It would be worth your time, and initial cost to see what he suggests getting you on the path to both better fitting equipment, and a more consistent swing where the results would be better and making playing more enjoyable. http://www.trevorparkinson.com/golf-lesson-pricing/

    How'd you play?

Played 9 holes, very up and down. I'll chalk it up to "practice round" and testing different iron sets together. I wasn't there to score well. Hit a lot of extra shots and didn't have focus throughout. Par on #1, triple #2..that sorta day. Managed a birdie and 2 other pars in there finished double bogey on both 8-9. Hit some very good approach shots with 9i and PW. Iron game felt strong all day. Putting and off the tee cost 7 strokes on 3 holes, played the other 6 at +5.

  23. Made it to the range this afternoon and didn't hit a single thin or topped shot and while my driver had a little fade it wasn't a nasty slice. Only think I can think of right now is that at the range I was trying to slow myself down to make good swings. Next round will be Sunday and I'll try and stay focused on making good swings for the entire round. if i can hit the ball like i did during practice today i will be happy.

    How'd you play?

Played March 26th up here in WA. 49 deg F and a steady 12 MPH wind. My normal bag was not available so I geared up with a set of 1980 Titleist Tour Model irons, a 975D 9 deg Driver and a Callaway BJ-1 putter from storage; I did game new Maxfli-Tour golf balls. It was a fun, but interesting day, to say the least. I shot 82 with 2 penalty strokes, 2 birdies, 2 3-putts. Trying to keep up with a couple of young guys playing newer equipment and trying to stay warm enough to keep a fluid swing added to the challenge. Honestly, I don't know that I could have posted a better score with updated equipment. The distance advantage of stronger lofts, a little more forgiveness, and a 3-wood and a hybrid would have changed some shots, but the player still has to execute. I can't blame equipment for failure to execute. I dropped three 8-irons inside of 10ft. I hit a nice little 5-iron fade into the wind on #12 and left the 20 foot birdie putt on the lip of the cup. I dropped one 7-iron inside 3 feet, that backed up to about 15 feet. And I hit 3-iron out of a fairway bunker on #18 from 180 out, into the wind leaving the ball a foot short of the green, and lipped out the birdie putt. Aside from the good stuff I easily had 6 strokes that can only be explained as "plain stupid." Anybody who has been playing for 5 minutes knows to keep your head down, don't peek, and commit - well... The big take-away for me was that it doesn't matter what equipment I play, I still have to execute to play well. But then that is probably not exactly prophetic to anyone who plays the game. Enjoy folks.

    How'd you play?

Great time today. 80*, gentle breeze, very low humidity, almost too fire danger low. Walked 9 holes between two different gold teams practicing, so it was a bit slow, but so nice out. I was actually striking the ball decent. Hit 7 greens in reg, 5 of 7 fairways, down side was I had 2, 3 putts. But you know, I saw some positive stuff today and saw some stuff I need to work on as well. That's what keeps me coming out round after round. The good, the bad and sometimes the ugly.

  26. Took the new Tour Edge hybrids for a quick little spin this morning at the range. Kept it light and only brought my 47 for warmup. I know it's a little cliche, but this was my second swing with the three hybrid. (The first was a bit higher and a bit more on the toe). I was surprised. Pretty effortless to hit well. I did manage to test out all of the face, unwillingly, and found it to be very forgiving distance and direction wise unless it was way waaaaay out on the toe. Out there caused a substantial drop on ball speed and a much lower flight. I had a little more trouble with the 2 hybrid, but kind of ironed out the kinks by playing with the adjustable hosel -- upright neutral was a good spot for now. Time will tell but the only one time I've hit a long club this well out of the box was when I picked up my current driver (which I love). Hopefully I'll be confident enough with these to start taking occasional shots.into the green from 200 or more.

    How'd you play?

... So true with most things golf ain't it? The ball has no idea if you hinge your wrists (Michelson) with your chips/pitches or use very little hinge (Stricker) and both have outstanding wedge games. Many Ams find consistent results using a putter grip and putting stroke when chipping close to the green, especially those that don't get to play or practice much. There are techniques that can be more consistent with less margin for error but I think personal preference is the biggest factor. Which feels best and/or makes the most sense to you. Instruction can get very confusing, especially from those that think their way is the only way. So you can only find that out through practice, and trial and error. Not that you will need it but Good Luck Sluggo!

  28. Had the 430 Max H/L version less than 2 months. The 45 3/4 was too much so went 1 inch shorter and added my standard MCC+4 grip which changed swing weight by 4, purchased a 18G weight offline to replace the stock 10G H/L swing weight to compensate. . It much straighter and actually gets up in the air easier so it carries a little more but run out leaves total a little shorter than the longer shaft. less than 5 yards shorter and in the fairway a lot more often seemed like a good swap to me.

  29. A Fitting Experience The question has been asked around the forum and even on MGS Most Wanted about rating and reviewing fitters. This is can be highly subjective and vary day to day as well as golfer to golfer. However in this same thinking I wanted to share a bit of a story and some background on a new fitting business that has started up near me in Switzerland. First a little background. I joined a Migro Golf course Otelfingen this year and prior to this I had done a lot of searching and looking around at different courses as to find what would be the best for me to join. While doing this I came across this website for a fitter near me which was going to be opening in a few months. I hadn’t forgotten about it, but with the Edel test coming to the forum I was curious to see what fitters were in the area and this shop came up again. As I had been to a few shops around and found them to be good, but a lack of lefty options I reached out to Jean Marc to see if he had some time to talk and discuss his business as well as see what he had in left handed options. After a few quick email exchanges we found a date and time in the morning for me to come by and chat. The intent was also to do this write up here on the forum and share it. Hopefully help him gain a little more attention as well as hear some other more in depth stories from others about fitters which are similarly in his category. With all that being said let's dive into it. The Background and How it started. Originally a trained Machine Mechanic Jean Marc is now an avid golfer and has a true eye for fittings, personal interactions and in my opinion what fittings should be. After many years in the banking industry in Switzerland he retired and turned his hobby into his new career. While he admits it may never be a huge money maker, he loves what he does here and is able to provide golfers. He is a member of a local 9 hole course and often sponsors junior events and much more. Jean Marc, like most Swiss, wants to do things right and went through all the proper steps and channels to make sure he can provide the best for any customer that walks through the door. He spent time in both the US and UK training, visiting various OEMs and developing the proper skillset, knowledge and experience to ensure his customers are taken care of properly in a true professional way. The brands he carries were hand picked and ones he is passionate about providing in his shop (more on that later). However it is evident he is a fan of Taylormade and Titleist with having all but 2 of the the Taylormade Staff Bag collectables. A truly impressive collection. The Shop I can only say really good things about the shop. The layout is fantastic and inviting with lots of natural light and a great display for a fitting wall and so many collectable clubs and bags. When I walked in on the screen there was a large custom Welcome Jamie Danbrook on both the TV and LM screen. There is a small, but inviting seating area beside the single bay and a work shop behind. Straight ahead is a brand new area dedicated solely to putting and putting fits which while still under construction will be easily the best one I have seen in Switzerland when it is completed. The thing that stood out to me immediately was the care, thought and passion for golf which was displayed in the photos, collectables and care in setup. The small details around the shop could be discussed for days and the amount of irons which I could only wish to own one day excited more than I care to say. The shop uses GC Quad and carries a select few brands. These brands include Edel, Henry Griffitts (I had to look them up after), Fourteen and Haywood. There were also a variety of other brands in the shop with some Vice Golf Balls, Cobra irons and more which were available for purchase. The Experience As mentioned above when I walked in there was a custom welcome message which immediately set the tone of what was to be expected. While I did not hit any clubs I have never seen anything like this and was blown a way a little. We walked through how he fits, what he does and how he not only does fittings, but like the brands of TXG tries to inform the golfer along the way to ensure they know why and what is going on during the fitting. The other important part to note is his fittings are in a very sensible price range and with the price you also get a coffee (sorry it is important to me), however a great experience and a no obligation purchase. He wants to fit you into what is best for you and your game and if you end up making the purchase, that is fantastic, however if you decide to wait on it (like most Swiss do) then that is fine as well. The putting experience is going to be second to none with a custom green that can be changed for slopes and simply be an experience like none other. With the full Edel custom set, a brand (I am blanking on the name) that makes a really cool wooden putter which is nearly impossible to have the face not square the available products for any golfer are there and can be fit. The Final Thoughts I am really excited for Jean Marc and all that he has built. I can only see his business growing and becoming a go to center for proper fittings in Switzerland. He has all the knowledge, passion and ability to make not only the business a great success, but also help as many customers who go through his door to improve their games and get them into the proper equipment for their game. I want to thank him for his time and the coffee to sitdown talk me about his story, discuss his shop and the experience he hopes to provide all his customers.

Even with the V3, when I haven't played in a while, even though it is at the same course, it takes much longer to synch the satellites and find the course. If I play the next day or so, it only takes a couple of minutes, if that. I am assuming the X5 will probably be the same way.

    How'd you play?

Played 9 first time this year with regular partner Marc and we both played like we took the winter off. No pars for me again this time thinking Marc is part of the problem hehe. Actually had a walkup addon the Starter requested to have play with us who turned out to be my son's grades 4-8 track coach so not just a good person to play the round with but also had 2 hours to catch up on what has been going on for the past 8 years. Took 3 more strokes to get from first tee to last cup and lost a ball crossing Cazenovia Creek on the 9th so put me down for losing one ball in the last 2 rounds posted to the MGS Forum weekly VTC. Swing did not feel as smooth and natural as Wednesday and 79F at tee time was probably contributing as that condition has not been in these here parts since September 2022. Might get a round in tomorrow or might rest until Monday for the next tee time at 3:40.

    Bump and run

... One of the big differences is also experience. You don't see too many scratch golfers that have been playing 3 or 4 years and once a weekend. It takes years and years to get better and understand your game and how it performs under different conditions. I play 4-5 times a week now and rarely practice anymore but early and middle of my golf journey I practiced the short game for hours on end until I became proficient with a wedge in my hand. ... My personal opinion is everyone should use one club until the master it, then move on to other clubs. But I am a feel player and that is what makes the most sense to me as a player and when I taught. Someone more technical in their thought process may prefer using different clubs in a more analytical approach.

  37. They've arrived. Big props to PGA superstore and Tour Edge. Ordered Monday, shipped direct from the factory in Illinois on Wednesday. Arrived in Los Angeles today. Nice attention to detail. Perfectly aligned logo down on both shafts and grips. It's nice to see things put together well. The clubs are beautiful too. Nice compact head. Weighting feels great even though they're a bit lighter than I prefer at D3. Took a few practice swings in the back yard and hit a foam ball at my rear block wall. Can't wait to really hit them, but surely its a good sign to see the foam ball bounce straight back at me? Going to try to sneak out early tomorrow and wedge a session in before I pick up my brother and his family from the airport.

  40. First alittle background, sorry I got alittle chatty So I started golf sept 2021, and sense I lived in michigan I only played A hand full of times that year. But I caught the bug so bad. I just couldn’t play the set of copperhead irons and jack Nicklaus driver. So I went to golf galaxy and the employee put let me hit a few drivers… mind u I know NOTHING about golf equipment so he sold me a ping g410 senior flex shaft. Obviously I was slicing the ball there and sense I was just beginning my s.s We’re very low. The other thing I did was go get fit for irons because the little info I had said u must do that. So club champion was the closet place. I was hitting the COPPERHEAD IRONS very short there basically cb’s. Club champion fit me into the 2021 T300s bent to t100s specs with the Aldia NV 65g graphite Regular flex shaft. Now here I am my second full season, I went for what I thought I was going to be a proper Driver fitting @ Carlsgolfland and the fitter said sense I’ve only been golfing 2 years it would b a waste to try the “up charge” driver shafts, that we would be able to make a stock option work. Also I told him my miss is a slice but I’ve really been working on my swing and I’m mainly hitting a nice cut/fade. Yet he still only picked heads that would be more draw bias and the most forgiving options. I feel like we didn’t try different heads like low spinning options. Like ppl say you never know what could work but he put me in a box. Even tho I didn’t slice one ball I was pulling my drive that day. Still ended up buying a drive he recommended. Although I was a little disappointed in his fitting process ok here it is once think I did learn is that I’ve picked up hell of a lot of s.s. 104/105 mph. so my driver shaft is x stiff cause I have a super aggressive Driver swing. I don’t swing my irons as aggressive as the driver . My 5 iron when I hit it decently is my 205/210 club 6 irons 189/193 7 175 etc but I’m still useing the Aldia NV 65 gram regular flex. And it feels like if I don’t time it just right I hit terrible shots fat. Big pulls slices. The heads feel so whipy threw the swing. so with a iron swing speeds 84-94ish what type of shafts might b a decent replacement into my t300? I asked the fitter he said steel for sure no more graphite snd in the stiff range not xstiff and not to move it something super heavy. Also i still think I’d benefit from something Higher launching. And would it be cheaper to just have the t300s reshafted or maybe trade them in for something with a shaft better fitting shalft that’s still in the game improvement or players distance category?

  41. Can we talk about how awesome this video is (including the Neil Everett naration)?!? Also, curious to hear about these “upped stakes”! As said (many times) before, grateful for Cobra AND the Mod team for this amazing opportunity!

  42. Welcome to the Forum and glad to see a new thread post to boot! I tend to write a lot but will keep this response short as I agree with what has been posted above by @rkj427 and @tony@CIC. I have been playing golf for the past 12 years and 11 of those I had a driver swing that was hopeless, beautiful ball contact but a curving path that sliced so fast Ginsu knives don't cut that well. Stories for another time for sure but I actually pulled the driver out of my bag for 3 years and used hybrid off the tee box with short tee to keep from making divots where it is embarrassing to make them. Then a PGA HOPE session, indoors on a simulator where fellow Veterans were hitting driver and it was my turn. One offered his 3 wood because I still had no driver in my bag. The PGA Pro stepped in as soon as I had made a beautiful Scimitar shaped slice that dropped 100yds way off the right of the fairway. He had me set up with shoulder, wrist, clubhead as one straight line, clubhead turned to be perpendicular to a line from the ball to the cup. Ball on a high tee and club set about 9-10 inches behind the ball. Then he said "just make an easy swing, not down like an iron but sweeping around" and that was my very first driver swing that went straight down the fairway and landed 180 yds on its way to the cup. I have replicated that every swing since through 124 9 hole rounds in 2022 and through winter sessions and now early rounds in 2023. I have a driver swing and I think you will too with the equipment you have. The trick which is much cheaper than a new driver is to find an expert who can watch your drive and make a suggestion that works for your swing [since everyone's swing is different] and it should only be one suggestion that is needed. More than one only causes problems in my experience. I have witnessed others with horrible driver problems receive a one suggestion idea from PGA Teaching Pro and seen instant results just as I did. Don't underestimate the value of a swing coach, even if it is for one session. Hope to hear about your success soon. Okay yeah I didn't keep it short.

  43. My scores are coming around, but that is mainly due to my short game. GIR's need work. These mounded greens just suck the ball into the face without any bounce forward. The greens are very small, so you almost want to be slightly on the short side. Thirteen of fourteen tee shots were dead center of the fairway. The one that wasn't was due to my own greed getting in the way. Tried to go over a tree to cut some of the dog leg out. Like they say missed it by that much". 90% air my butt. Dropped like a rock. Punched out a 7 iron, then dropped a gap wedge within 5 feet and made the putt. I got my first birdie of the season. Somehow on the hole that is tough for me. 384 yard dogleg left, 5 wood off the tee and 5 hybrid to within 5 feet. I did get 1 bogie on the 18th hole. Dam par 5 with the green surrounded by a deep stream 428 yards. Good drive leaving me 200 in. Layed up to 100 yards, then gap wedge into the green but pulled it a little into the bunker. Out in one but 2 putted for the bogie. My second even par round of the season. The highlight and blunder of the day was another par 5. 439 yards. Killed my tee shot (for me anyway) leaving 199 into the green and hit my 5 wood up to the green but it bounced right rolled into the bunker. Unfortunately a short sided pin and a steep out. Landed up top but rolled back in again. Second shot out left me a 4 foot putt and made it for par. It went from looking like a eagle to a par pretty quickly. Front 9 all pars. Back 9, 1 bird and 1 bogie. 72 A beautiful day out in the sunshine.

A former colleague sent this as part of an email string and I immediately thought of @Rickp. You just need to find a collared version so as to meet your courses appropriate attire standards .

  45. My X5 arrived yesterday. I never received advance notice. It arrived with 6% charge. I waited until it was 100% before connecting to the app. Firmware update and synching all the courses that needed to be (7 in my case) went flawlessly. I went through all the settings to get it the way I want to use it (no scoring, auto putting, preferred clock face). I notice no "GPS" setting, unlike the V3. Since with the V3 I always used the L1 + L5 setting, it will be interesting to see how GPS yardages compare at my home course. I may take along my Ve, put it in GPS mode only and put it in the cart for comparison. Looking forward to my 1st round with the 5 on Monday!

  46. While injured the only ting I could really do golf related was putt and chip in my house. It paid off as I've chipped in three times in two rounds and putted beautifully. Since it was raining yesterday and today, I hit the chipping and putting practice hard again. Can never be too good at that part of the game!

  47. I think I might be able to do that. He's the one guy at work I can go full on golf geek with and get getting to hang out while playing has always been a highlight for me.

I was on a par 3 today and hit to a slight depression on the right-hand side of an elevated green. I couldn’t see the bottom of the depression, so I couldn’t see the ball. I get to the green and the ball had rolled off and into a bunker, one of my least favorite places to be. I let out a big groan pulled out my sand wedge. I hit the ball out of the bunker better than I expected, cleared the bunker and the top lip of the green. Then when I get up to the green I can’t see the ball and thought it rolled all the way across to the other side. I walk past the cup and there it is in the cup. So, I had my best bunker shot ever, the first time I’ve ever hit from a bunker to the cup and the first time I’ve ever made a birdie from a bunker, and I didn’t get to see to since I was lower than the bunker and the green. I was ecstatic nonetheless.
