  1. Morning everyone. Bit of a depressing Monday here in Wisconsin. We had multiple days last week above 75°. Today the high temp is in the 30's and it's snowing. Ugh.

  2. Good Monday morning and as Jason said back to the grind, computers coming up for another from home weekday workday. Coffee is ready to be poured so it's time to be superman and take care of business. 3:40 tee time that is sure to be chilly and wet but it is golf and there is nowhere I would want to be hope golf is part of your day

  3. Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend. It's back to the grind, but I'm feeling good after playing this weekend. I had to drive my wife's car to work today because she has to take mine for routine service. She's happy because she gets to pick up Chinese takeout at her favorite place. I'm looking forward to what the week has in store for us on the forum.

  4. Morn all! Just a quick hello to say, busy weekend, between some garden work and impromptu hosting of my wife’s granddaughter. It’s sunny and warming up this week. Have a good one!

  5. Good morning Spies! The only golf-related thing for me today will be packing my bag for the return home. Florida and family time was fantastic and my wife had a super birthday week. A friend’s band played yesterday afternoon, and after 18 in the morning we went and I was fortunate to sit in on drums for a couple songs. It was a total blast. I definitely drum better than I golf in Florida. Bermuda and I just don’t mesh. At least, that is the excuse I’m sticking with for today. Wishing you all a fantastic Monday.

  6. Good Monday Morning Folks. Uff what a weekend. Had my wife’s brothers at the house all weekend. They wanted to reminisce and try and remember stuff from when they were all kids. Friday in bed at 3am, Saturday was game day and I made it till 11PM before throwing in the towel. Sunday was breakfast, chatting, golf store to try some golf gloves on for sizing and we looked at a house in Washington. Wish my house was ready to sell and not so flipping busy the next two months. I’d probably be moving to Washington. Have a great day folks. +12

  7. Good morning everyone, had a great weather weekend here and go outside a bunch. Cleaned up the yard, cleared out the shed, went for a bike ride, just a good bunch of family time. Go a sick kid at home today currently passed out on the couch after being up for an hour this morning. Hoping he feels better soon. Hope everyone has a great day!

Happy Monday! Out the door @6:30 for a 7:00 Tee Time @ a mediocre Exec but it’s with a great group of Ole Farts.

  11. ... I am being very quiet because I just picked up a Stealth 2 HD, my MG3 wedges have been performing well and my MIM Tours have such an ego... I don't want them to know I am trying to replace them. Shhhhhhh This contest should be fun for someone that doesn't want their clubs replaced. Not me of course (said loudly next to my bag) but someone else that would love this once in a life opportunity and can play 4 or 5 times a week! Good luck to that lucky person that isn't me! (bag still listening)

    How'd you play?

Well I must be starting to swing a little better as the old back is not nearly as sore and stiff and hurting as is typical after golfing .. so, progress..? But what I wanted to add here, that I forgot to mention in my earlier post about my own crazy up and down 9 holes of whacking the little dimpled spheroid around a golf course... ...my wife / golf partner is getting deadly with her gap wedge around the greens .. scared the hole aka almost chipped in at least 3 or 4 times over 9 holes!! (..now if I can get her to take lesson so she can start to get a little further off the tee .. there are two tee shots on the front 9 where you need to carry the crest of a hill.....)

  13. Good Morning All and as my former boss always liked to say TGIM! Although it really feels like my Tuesday as I worked most of the day yesterday to get ahead of forecast items for work. I'm leaving Thursday for vacation with Mrs. BOS which is a few days before the forecast will be locked down. Anyway, its a cool and wet Marathon Monday today. Good luck to all the runners out there, Go Sox (they need all the help they can get) and GO BRUINS BABY! Big day for Boston!

  14. Gooood morning everyone! Drizzling already and some decent rain might pass though. Chilly and windy at 53*, that being said the lawns has popped in a big way and already needs its second cut of the year! Hoping the rain ends early today and I get the rest of my chores done so tomorrow is nothing but golf and relaxation. Have a great day all!

  18. I didn't get to post yesterday. I think I have peaked too soon. Saturday was a nice 72 and I followed that up on Sunday with a 71. Three birdies and two bogies. Distance is picking up and GIR's are getting better. My son started working full time at the course today.

  19. Good (and I use that word lightly, today) morning all from a completely snow covered southwest wisconsin. As @Bucky CC already mentioned, we got the white stuff last night and into today. Currently the flurries are still flying in my part of the state, and we've safely got 4" on the ground. REALLY hoping it stops, and we get back to the 70 degree temps we enjoyed all last week soon. No golf for me throughout this next week, but going to try and stay positive that at some point towards the end of next week the weather will improve and we will be back at it Looking forward to the week ahead as the hype for the Cobra 50th Anniversary Member Special continues to build!

  24. No problem, got your six Funny part is bonfires are against code in this town, cooking fires are ok as are firepits but burning yard waste like dead branches, rose clippings, etc is only possible in those settings and not just a burn pile. I was concerned about the wind blowing the fire into the stockade fence downwind of the bonfire as it was really flaring in the gusts and then it suddenly went out like a light with a big cloud of ash steam Thinking Single Malt on the rocks with this to calm the mind

  25. Good Late Monday Morning all!! I just finished going through the pages of posts in this thread... a BIG disadvantage of living on the west coast! By the time I get through them, it's already afternoon for most of you! Up early at 5am; had my obligatory 2 cups of coffee (not in bed today since it's not the weekend); went through my exercise routine while my wife did her Monday morning run to Walmart for groceries (best time to go btw); then mowed the lawn while it's sunny... showers coming in later today. Now I'm headed to Home Depot for stuff for my garden... busy day!!

  27. All I can say is the mod team will have some skin in what the results end up being for each competition. As we are all competitive and @GolfSpy_BOS wants to claim he won 2 of these things. Mainly we just want to have some additional fun with it... For that matter we still need to sort how it's going to work for us before we start looking at test selections etc.

  30. Morning All, Busy day today with the marathon. My work is right at the beginning so tons of space is used/donated for folks to park and volunteers get bussed in. Events over the past weekend for groups as well so its always busy this time of year for the marathon. Nice cool misty morning for the runners. Silly question....Yes you do.

  32. We went to play today late afternoon and the course was packed, so much that we had to wait a few minutes for a cart to come in from the parking lot. We played the first hole and were able to hit our drives on #2 before catching up with the pack. It was unbearably slow and coupled with my failed attempts to find a full swing that will work for me this year, I lost interest in the round on about the 4th hole. After about 3 more holes of miserable golf we decided to play a little differently instead of leaving. We would each choose a club for each other and we had to use that club for all shots on that hole. It kept things interesting even though the slow pace remained the same. I found out I can two putt with every club but my driver! I also found out I can hit my 23* hybrid from a greenside bunker fairly effectively.

  33. Simple question, but difficult answer. You will hear many say that the putter shaft doesn't matter because the putter moves so slowly. Even with steel, there are shaft profiles and the putter performs differently with the different shafts. In steel, there is the pencil shaft made famous by TP Mills and the YSC shaft that Cameron used for a long time. There is a different in feel with the graphite shafts; they typically feel stiffer. I've compared a steel vs BGT stability shaft in identical heads and there were slight performance differences. With putters, the differences will always be slight and probably something you can't measure in a single round and will probably take a full season to see any difference. For example you might see face angle deviation narrow a quarter of a degree; this might help you make a few more 10' putts over the course of a season. I saw a report from someone that did a Quintic comparison and the results showed a little tighter dispersion and narrowed face angle deviation that would probably translate to 1ish strokes saved per 4 rounds. The shaft costs seems to be coming down so I wouldn't be opposed to putting one in a putter. I have tried the All-In,, LA Golf, Stability, PXG, and Accra; they generally feel about the same. I have also tried stroke lab it is designed with a different purpose than the others.

  34. With our club's two-man tournament behind me, I wanted to get out on the course and compare the distances and flights of the Paradym X's versus my Ping G30's. I chose three clubs to compare: 5 iron versus my Ping G hybrid 5, seven and nine irons. I picked out five Srixon Divide balls that I hit with my G30's and five white ProV1's that I hit with the Paradym X's. For about six holes I'd travel down the fairway to my typical club distance, drop the ten balls and alternate two Pings, three Paradym Xs, three Pings and two Paradym X's hits toward the target. I'd note the feel and trajectory of each irons then move up to the landing areas and assess the pattern and overall distance of each club. I typically hit two different combinations on each hole (e.g. fives off the tee box then move us to hit the nines). Overall, I found that I hit the Paradym X's about 5-8 yards long than the corresponding Ping club. I'm guessing that was somewhat expected given the less lofted Paradym X irons. The Paradym X's also exhibited a lower overall trajectory when compared to the Pings. Time will tell if that's going to be a good or maybe not so good. Possibly good given we typically play in 10-20 mph winds here and the lower trajectory may help. Possibly not so good in that our classic Rees Jones course has small greens that more readily accept higher trajectory shots. Time and multiple rounds will ultimately be the judge. I also found that the Paradym X shots were clustered closer together than the Ping club shots. This was true with all three clubs that I tested face to face. Here is just one example from our par three 16th hole. These were 9 iron shots. In the left hand picture hopefully you can see the three Srixon Divide balls on the green (yellow/red in front, yellow/blue in the middle and the yellow/red on the right in line with the cart). The other two were out of frame. The right hand picture shows four of the five Paradym X shots. As you can see, about a club length (maybe slightly less) longer and tighter overall dispersion. As I've said, these are the first real forged irons that I've ever had (except for wedges). The Paradym X's have much more of a "click" sound associated with them. It's not bad or good. It's just something different. I thought the highly polished finish on the Paradym X's might reflect the sunlight and be a distraction. I didn't find that to be the case. I did find however that the Paradym X's yielded fewer pushes to the right (more straight shots towards the target) and for some reason a straight to little hook flight pattern versus a straight/slightly fade flight pattern with the Pings. It's hard to say if that slight hook flight pattern will be sustainable. I have to say, the comparative results from these three clubs seem to favor the Paradym X's. They were half to full club longer, had a lower overall trajectory and yielded a tighter grouping of shots than my current Ping's. This however was only my first experience with the irons. As I said before, once is accident, twice is a coincidence and three times is a trend. Let's see what happens tomorrow as they get their first experience of a competitive round of golf! We may be lucky enough to have a solid round and a coincidently good second experience with the irons!

  35. GM Y'all!!!!! Here we are again- another day in Paradise!!!!! How 'bout Matt Fitz!!!!Apparently my crystal ball was off by a week- I LOVED his approach shot!!!!!! I went out on Saturday and played HORRENDOUSLY- I wish I could blame it on the the WINDY/RAINY/NASTY/COLD(44*) weather- But it was all operator error. On the plus side- the greens were really receptive(if/when I found them) and there were only about 5 other people out on the course. Hope y'all that are getting out have nothin but F&Gs cuz the rest of us got this........

    How'd you play?

Looking forward to it! Just wanted to take a moment and mention to everyone that this is far and away my favorite thread in this forum. I really really like reading about people's rounds; how they played, where they played, who they played with, how they felt...all of it! I always look forward to swapping stories when it's nice out and living vicariously through others when it's not nice out.

  37. Today's round gave me an idea of how it feels to play most par-4 shots out of the fairway vs in the trees or dropping from a slice OB. I played my best round yet (+13) and had the stats to back it up. Really really need to work on 60 yards and in shots as I'm definitely losing strokes not being able to get up and down. Played at Colorado National in Erie, CO and it was my first time playing. This course is LONG. Played from the gold tees coming in at ~6800 yards (I usually play in the ~6100 range with my buddies) but something with the driver was clicking as I was carrying most of my drives 280 yards into the fairway. Also only lost 1 ball in the whole round which is also a personal best on 18. I really feel like if I can dial the up and down shots and leave myself 15 feet or closer for birdie putts, I could see that score dropping even more! 8 Fairways, 7 Greens, 33 putts, +13 *Also, I need to start taking pictures at the rounds I play, some of these courses are crazy pretty.

  38. Two funny Daly stories -- At the 50th Anniversary bash, John was killing it - he sang a few songs, told a few stories and drank whiskey and water. (He also sang it - I have a video somewhere). Anyway, later in the evening I'm waiting in line for the rest room when John comes up. I was next in line but let him cut because hey, he's John Daly. He walks in and a couple seconds later he sticks his head out and says to me, "Hey, I'm not gay or anything but there's a urinal and a toilet in here if you need to go." The other bathroom opened up and I told the guy behind me it was his decision to make and I went into the other one. Looking back I should have taken him up on the offer - I mean, how many times do you get to take a leak with a two-time Major champion? The other story came the next day - I"m going through a fitting with Brandon, Cobra's chief fitter and he's telling me that he's known John for over 20 years. He met him when he was just a kid and told Daly he wanted to get into the golf business. Daly then made some calls an within a couple of days he got Brandon a job at Cobra. He said that's something Daly just does - he's a big-hearted guy who'll help out anyone he can. And he's as genuine of a guy as you'd ever want to meet.

  42. Good morning Spies, the weather @EasyPutter warned me of has arrived. We've gone from 88 to 48 overnight and there is a threat of snow later in the week. I've enjoyed my coffee in my favorite mug, see previous post of said mug. If we don't get an extended weather break I will head over to the golf dome at Turning Stone for some range time. Hope all have a great Monday.

  47. Played the first 18 of the year yesterday. I don’t put a lot of stock in the score as the conditions were pretty bad and the greens were laughable. 3 bogeys, 1 birdie and a 74. But all the simulator time over the winter paid off and I hit it really well. We’ll be another 3 weeks at least before we can play in conditions where the grass has actually been cut, but at least it was outside, hitting balls off grass!

  48. Today was another few mini sessions hitting into the net in the garage. Worked with my 7 wood, 4 iron and gap wedge. Had a series of "ah-ha" moments. They're all things that I've heard before, sometimes many times. It's odd how things randomly click with me. First one has been building a bit this season: My aim is off. What I've thought was lining up the club face square was actually a little to the left. Easy fix while practicing but on the course will be key. Second one is something I read this morning: I need to stop lining myself up with the flag. This is more of a conceptual thing as it's hard to get the feedback I'm looking for hitting into a net. Third is not new and still I need it repeated ad nauseam. STOP TRYING TO KILL IT, YOU DUMB S***!
