  1. Winter wonderland here now. Shocking as we haven't had snow in 3 years but my goodness it's pretty. No golf for a little while but finally a full day off! Can't wait to spend it with the kids and family. Unfortunately they didn't get the memo that dad wanted a good sleep and there was little to no sleep had between the hours of 12-3. However a sleep in till 8:20 was pretty huge. Looking forward to a fun day in the snow.

  3. Like any country we have various areas and climates. Yes Switzerland is known for the Alps, but that is only part of the country. I live about 20 minutes from the German border. It is cheaper in Germany for many things (dentist and some other things) so we often go there for that. France is only an hour away. Italy 4 hour drive? ... anyway where I live we get a good amount of rain and wet weather in winter, but the last two winters we had next to nothing. Still down in Montreaux it is like a micro climate and they are usually warmer, same with part of Lucerne. However if you go up the hills a bit you will get plenty of snow.

  4. Good morning and happy Sunday all you Spies. I'm back at the data center this morning as things didn't go exactly as planned yesterday. We only got about halfway through the change work, but luckily nothing has gone offline at this point which is very important. Hopefully we can get the second half completed today and before the change window ends. Plus I'd like to go home tomorrow and sleep in my own bed. Anyway, wish us luck today for a smoother day than yesterday.

Good morning MGS! It's gonna be another crappy weather day today. Rain in the forecast and temps in the upper 30s, so miserable and muddy for the most part... The Wolverines won the Big10 championship last night so that was great to see. Will be interesting to see how the committee messes up the top 4 rankings today Early double header basketball today for the youngest then hopefully we will be able to relax and watch some NFL this afternoon. Have a great day today everybody!

  7. Morning all, Marshalling in the fog yesterday. It was thick enough to walk on and crazy people were still playing. There was no way to know where your ball was without a GPS chip in the ball . What about all of you, would you have gone for it? I cancelled my round because it was that bad!.

  8. Morning! Baby decided to throw binkie across the room so he was yelling at 2:45 today. Not the wake up call I was hoping for but blessed to have a healthy baby to be able to care for. So we are up and at em early this morning. Hot cup of Joe watching the Barstool Foreplay play the Lido course at Sand Valley. This series and their podcast taking about it has made me put Sand Valley as a destination trip on my wish list. The Lido just looks unbelievably gorgeous.

  10. It was foggy and rainy yesterday; got a call from my golf group that they didn't want to play since the course we had booked was messy and CPO today. Since it is going to be 70 today I made a tee time for 12:00; looking forward to a solo round. Don't care if I get held up by the foursomes in front of me, just want to enjoy being outside and work on my swing a little.

  11. Good morning everyone. Not much on the docket today. Taking my father in law to the Apple Store to get his laptop repaired. He has Alzheimer’s and his laptop is a big deal to him. He can’t get around very well any more so I’ll be his chauffeur in a manner of speaking. Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

  12. Good Weekend Morning! My wife is a trooper - she's heading out to the season finale 5K run for a group of 10-11 year old girls - and it's gray and rainy and just yucky out here... ..she volunteer coaches with the local chapter of a national nonprofit, which is aimed at boosting young girls' confidence through a season of life lesson talks plus training sessions for the 5K. Unfortunately there's no backup rain date, and also unfortunately .. as these things seem to go these days .. several girls in the group have notified her they're not coming... So I guess that means I "get to" (well now I do feel obligated) help with finishing all the holiday decorations after she gets back..! Anyway, hope you have a good day yourself with whatever's on your schedule!

Good morning Spies on another cool and rainy day here in SE Michigan. Did manage to take SWMBO to Carl's yesterday early afternoon so she could pick-up some summer style clothing that was on sale, and I was able to get some range time in there too. Had a holiday party to attend last night at a private golf club here, first time I ever was there and quite impressed with the facilities, seeing how it is located in the middle of a residential area of Rochester, MI. Also found out that a friend of mine, who works for Leader Dogs parents belong, so I may get an invite next season to actually play the course too. Not much on the agenda today, normal household items which need attending too, and maybe see the final round of Tiger's tournament. Hope that your day is the best it can be, and that something golf related or enjoyable is in your plans. PS: I am in agreement with @Dead Solid Bogey on the assessment of simulators, or Top Golf, I would much rather be on a real course than hitting off a perfect lie from a mat into a screen. And I also would like to be able to putt the greens.

  14. Good Morning Everyone, Rainy and in the 30's all day, gotta love midwest winter time. Hey, at least it isn't snowing... Yet. If you are in a golfable climate, enjoy and hit em straight, if you can. Cheers

  16. Good morning all and happy Sunday. Another night short on sleep, hoping to take a nap when the kids do today. Also going to get some Christmas lights up on the house I believe. Going to have to buy some at Walmart or Home Depot and have no idea how many feet to buy, so gonna guess and play the side of too many. Sunday Night Football Packers vs Chiefs I am hoping to be a good game. Pack have been playing better lately but KC is a tough draw no matter whether it is home or away!

  17. I had the same thing happen, sometimes our pug sounds what I call the "puglarm" and wouldn't let me go back to sleep. Like you, it's time to get up and drink some coffee.

  19. Good morning everyone! Didn't get to sleep in as late as I would like but still got a good night's rest. I'm up with the dogs enjoying coffee with them by my side. There's not much on the docket today except grocery shopping and fixing a shelf in one of the bedrooms. Jamie, I hope you enjoy the well deserved day off and have some fun with your kids out in the snow. I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday.

  22. Another day of not getting the lawn taken care of... sigh (sarcasm) What a set of games yesterday in college football! Coffee in hand this morning for sure. No chance of golf today either. @No3PuttLaLa I definitely enjoy watching their series too. The Writer cup was hilarious, and I am definitely most relatable to Trent when it comes to playing.. lol Maybe someone will be able to enjoy their day...hopefully on the course! 20231203_071132.mp4

  23. Does Top Golf count as an off course golf course? I thought it was a target driving range, but I haven't been to one so I may be off there. There is a winter simulator league at one of the courses in the immediate area and a few simulator shops within an hours drive. I have no interest in a simulator league at this point but I do book an hour of sim time maybe twice a winter for various reasons. Mostly just to take some full swings in warmth where I am not wearing 4 layers to keep my mid season swing within the same zipcode. Other times to verify yardage gapping for an impulse buy. I dont think simulator play would interest me at $50 / hr. I tried a couple holes a few years ago when they first opened and I thought the putting aspect was really poor. Maybe that has improved since then.

  27. Good morning MGSpies on a wet soggy overcast WNY Sunday morning in a peaceful house with hot porridge cooling and Lyle's Golden cane sugar syrup ready to turn it into candy. curling with the Veterans is the main event at noon with a trip to RIT and dinner with son before home in forecast rain, yay. Venues like TopGolf, indoor sims, etc @Dead Solid Bogey are a good way to build and extend the sport - what I would like to see (and maybe it is already there) is that those venues are secondary to the Main Event of going out on a golf course for the real challenge of hitting off grass, playing in variable conditions, and the exercise. There are purists in every sport but the mainstream recognizes that more opportunities is always better as long as "new" does not equal "instead of." Chuck @cksurfdude the notion of adverse weather pertains to all sports except for a few and cross country or long distance running are amongst the exceptions. As a high school varsity cross country runner, I loved the bad weather. In fact the worse the weather the more I liked it. We did not have many supporters come out to our races including parents but once the varsity cheerleaders did show up to rally our spirits just before the race which was strikingly impracticable, but we were the only cross country team to have cheerleaders at a meet and that made them awesome! Jamie @GolfSpy_APH if you have snow in your neck of the woods, we definitely need to see photos! Warmer temps are a tease for thoughts about golf here. Snow gone here, mostly gone in the snow belts south of here and sodden ground from 2 days of nearly constant rain, so even if a course was open everything would get plugged aka lost. Hope golf is a part of your day!

  28. Good morning and happy Sunday spies! Slept until 7 this morning which is more than two hours later than the norm so that was cool. I was also woken up by a canine alarm although mine was the triple Yorkie style. They’re not accustomed to me sleeping in either so they get relentless and team up on me. Going to a movie with my wife here in a couple of hours. Her employer buys out the theater for employees to go before the theater is actually open for the day. No clue what we are going to see, I was probably told but do not remember. Daughter has 3v3 indoor soccer starting this afternoon which is fun to watch because the pace is really sped up. We shall see if she allows us to go watch. The girls all make up five person teams from their high school squads but there are no coaches allowed. The whole point of the league is to make the players think for themselves and adapt to whatever situation presents itself. Multiple teams from 8-10 different high schools and it lasts through February/March when high school season starts to get things rolling. I think that I will go roll some putts for a while now, hope that all of you have a great day!!

That’s a productive three hours! I have nothing against Sims or places like TopGolf and would definitely say that they have their place. I don’t mind using them but if given the choice of one or the other I would prefer the real deal. I’ve never had the opportunity to use a facility like a TopGolf but would like to give it a try. There is a similar facility from PinSeekers that was recently built about 90 minutes from me that buddies have been talking about so it might be in my future.

  30. Long day in work world.. Definitely earned my daily bread. Got to oversee one more work procedure then hopefully head for the house come daylight. I JUST READ AN ARTICLE THAT STATED.. For the first time ever this past year more golfers went to off-course golf courses than went to traditional golf courses. Guess I am “ REALLY To Old “.. TopGolf,SIMs, and such would hit diminishing returns with me, if they were my only golf options for the year… What say you, my logical and knowledgeable spies?

  32. One of the best things about our community is when a product may not work for them they pass it along. This is the case for @StrokerAce Callaway Paradym Driver. While it performed well during testing it didn't make the bag in the long run. The driver then changed hands to @GolfSpy SAM who put it head to head against his PXG. It worked well, but the comfort with the PXG was able to out perform any potential gains with the Paradym leading to more consistency and confidence with the PXG. Maybe third time is a charm? We want to find this driver a forever home! How to Sign Up - Unlike others where you drop your name and info in a sign up we want to switch things up a little and get those of you who are involved right now on the forum a better chance at getting your hands on this driver. Please post and share the following. 1. Your current driver( photo included) and the story of why you are gaming it. 2. Why we should pick you to test the driver. 3. Tell us about your best drive or driving round this season. The member selected will be required to do a full review on the driver and have their own placeholder post in the Paradym Driver Thread. *Driver specs - Callaway Paradym Standard (9*) with two shafts (Kai'Li' white XS 70g, tensei blue XS 75gs *We prefer those who are able to get play outdoors for this, however not a must. *Some geo restrictions (shipping costs falls on the tester). Interested in testing? Let us know below!

  33. Last year we made a fun recap thread of 2022 where we highlighted the various threads that took over the forum, the various members who contributed and a whole lot more. If you want to see this thread it is here: We are going to bring this back for 2023 and come the new year there will be one big post highlighting and giving shouts out to a swath of members and threads. Want to nominate someone for recognition? You can do it here or via PM. Personally I can't wait to go through the data and see who (non staff) had the most posts, most reactions, streaks and so much more.

  34. Look, I know you live in Switzerland, but I'm sure you read kid's books or watched some of those Fairy Tale cartoons as a kid. Well, if you haven't you should watch Jack and the Beanstalk. Then you will learn about not waking the SLEEPING GIANT. Here I am watching Christmas movies with my thousands of kids, and you got to bug me during my happy time. Regarding White box testing. Dumb question..... Quite a few reviews came back as not something that they would play. Maybe a touch of Yellow would have helped the cause. Case closed for now. However, if Titleist does come out with this model for 2024, I'll let you know how many I see in the pond or see all tore up in the woods. Even my smile has held up better than the cover on those balls, and you know how many times I'm smacked in the face. I haven't met anyone from the ODIN ancestry line yet. Jury is still out. But I would like to say Merry Christmas to all the spies out there. Even you @Rob Person we will get to you in a minute!

  35. Good morning spies, It’s a wet day in Central NY. 2 cups down and avocado toast on board. Watching the Tiger highlights from the Hero World Challenge on YouTube which is every one of Tiger’s shots. Lots of dialog on the ball roll back in social media. My initial thought was against it but I’ve read a bit on what it entails and honestly I think it won’t affect me. I had a very well thought response from Nathalie Sheehan, a PGA Professional, on one of her posts. The roll back is is intended to reduce the distance by 5%. That’s not much when you consider the distances of average golfers. The numbers show that the average male golfer hits their driver 216 so just over a 10 yard reduction. Yes, I know everyone on social media is over 300 yards . The roll back may help my game. I won’t be as deep in the trees! Wishing all a wonderful day.

  36. Good Morning everyone! We had a tee time at 8:30 today, but after the snow on Friday, warm temps and wind on Saturday, the snow is gone and the course opened up walking only. Today, they are open for carts, but it's raining hard... temp 43º and the wind has stopped. The rain is supposed to stop around 11am so my wife changed the tee time to 11:45. Yes, I know I shouldn't go with my sore knee, but honestly it feels a lot better and I had no problem hitting balls in my hitting bay yesterday at my normal (slow) swing speed. I need to get out and walk. I'll see how it goes. I did get an appointment with the Ortho doc for tomorrow morning, so I'll get an update on right knee. Have a great Sunday and sorry for those that can't play due to snow... but Hey! It's pretty!

  40. I have NO issue with Sim’s, TopGolf, or other such venues as occasional supplement, auxiliary, or change of pace options. As my only option(s) for golf without the recourse of going to a traditional course is not something that I believe would make golf viable for me.

  41. I watched a Rick Shiels podcast awhile back that approached this subject. The stats Guy produced on the number of sim club bars, and range club memberships was quite astounding. IIRC, 75% of the members were business types that never stepped onto a real course. But participation on weekly after work leagues was gaining alot of traction over in the UK. I know the USA side has grown for independen top golf/top tracer type facilities too. We actually had a sim bar just open up last month here.

  47. Having spent 10 years in (Dusseldorf) Germany, one of the things I really miss are the quick trips to other countries. We were 2 hrs. away from Amsterdam, Brussels, etc. Oh and as to rain - this year, where we live in Florida, we're 20 inches behind (just) this year for rain.

  48. Have fun?!?!?!? Oh the Horror of such an approach!!! How will you ever post a score for handicap purposes if you are making up your own set of tees???!!! You have personally bifurcated the course rating and slope system! I bet you are so bold as to even give a putt here and there so not everything is holed out in your groups! (I looked for a sarcasm font but didnt find one, so just to be clear, I was being sarcastic/humorous which I hope the bookend laughing emojis indicated) I do the same thing at the course we play just so it brings a variety of clubs into play.
    5 points
  49. ... If you play for fun and the purity of just playing the game, there is no need to be tied to any tees. Right now I am playing a combo with 9 holes from the sr tees and 9 holes from the tips. It is about 70yds longer than just the mens tees. Our 3 longest oar 4's are all uphill and after overfeeding and getting no roll at all, I moved up to the sr tees. I also moved up on all the par 5's and they are much more fun. Equally fun is playing the tips on all the par 3's and one of them can play 230 with a back pin. I think most should just move around when needed, even if that is only one or two holes. ... By making my own combo tee I am using all the clubs in my bag, something I didn't do from the mens tees. Now the course is a nice combination of 6 easy holes, 6 medium holes and 6 difficult holes. It works for me. My normal group of 6 now plays a myriad of different tees and the pace of play is exactly the same because we all play ready golf and understand we need to be at our appropriate tees to start every hole. Tips 9 tips/9Sr Mens tees (but joins me in my combo 1/2 the time) Sr tees Forward tees (2)
