Testers Announced! PING s159 Wedges
TSauer and 20 others reacted to GolfSpy_APH for a topic
Testers Announced! It has been a few years, but we are very happy to have PING golf clubs back as part of our Forum Member Testing! The PING s159 are the newest wedges from PING; however, it is not just new wedges that PING is excited about for this testing opportunity. They have also released their new WebFit App that aims to simplify the often confusing wedge grind dilemma. PING s159 Wedge Features: The s159 wedges are now offered in six different grind options, with two brand new grinds introduced for this series (the B and H grinds). As PING worked closely with their tour professionals on an updated design and look which would appeal to more golfers. PING has included their Friction Face that combines face blast and their optimized precision-milled grooves for what they claim is "the launch and spin control to play score-lowering shots from every distance." Add in appropriately spaced MicroMax grooves depending on the loft; these wedges are packed full of technology. All of their loft and grind combinations have been made available in two different finishes: The Hydropearl 2.0 Chrome and Midnight. The WebFit Wedge App: A simple step-by-step questionnaire based on what their wedge experts use to identify the best grinds and options for their tour pros, the WebFit app aims to simplify and find the best grinds and lofts for your game. The entire process takes only a few minutes and provides several options that best suit your answers, making the choice of knowing what grind should work for you a whole lot simpler! Please welcome and congratulate our 4 testers! @bens197 @johngschulz @aguybadatgolf @Leonvdwesthuizen21 points -

Late night getting work done, but meant I had a much more relaxed morning. Finally a good morning at the curling hall with no core issues and lots of good coffee. Yesterday was a banner day for the forum. We fell 3 posts short of 800 in a day, which to me is wild. Considering looking back not too long ago we were regularly seeing monthly post counts in 4-5 thousand range. I have said it before and I will continue to do so, thank you all for diving into this community and taking part. It has meant the world to us as a community, staff and for all of MyGolfSpy.21 points -
I guess it’s not morning. But I had to share my interesting story. Today I got out to play since we got the day off. Everything was going well, shot a 15 over. But that is not the point of this. I had just finished the 17th hole of the round and started heading to the 18th tee. And something caught my eye on the ground. I was certain it was a statute of a bald eagle. I thought that was pretty cool until I got up closer and realized it was real. It also looked like something was wrong with its wing. I called the club house and let them know where the eagle was. I watched him for a good 5 minutes and he didn’t move a bit other than to blink at me. They contacted wildlife and got them out there, but I had already left by then as the course manager had taken over watching it. I hope it is ok or can at least be rehabbed.19 points

Testers Announced! PING s159 Wedges
GolfSpy_BEN and 17 others reacted to Leonvdwesthuizen for a topic
Introduction Firstly, thank you MyGolfSpy and Ping for this amazing opportunity to test these wedges and use their Webfit Wedge app, to get the correct fit to suit our game. Hi Spies, my name is Leon vd Westhuizen and I play off an 18 handicap in and around Durbanville, Western Cape, South Africa, a small country at the bottom of Africa with about 60 million people but with a huge golf following. Our country has gifted the world the likes of Gary Player, Ernie Els, Charl Schwartzel, Louis Oosthuizen to name a few, so we have a rich history of producing great golfers, but I am not one of them! (these are not Gary, Arnold or Jack) As a youngster, I grew up watching Gary, Arnold, and Jack battle it out at the Masters and I wanted to be like them. So, I started playing golf occasionally, while still at school, but I loved rugby more, so I never focused on it. Forward many years later, and I have a wife & son, but I still love golf, cycling and rugby (Our national team, The Springboks, are the 4x World Rugby Champions you know!) But enough about me, this is about the opportunity to test these beauties from Ping, the brand-new Ping S159 wedges in Midnight Black for me. Just a disclaimer, I’m a virgin Ping player... I have never owned and played any club from Ping. Yes, I have taken their driver at the golf shop for a few hits on the trackman, but that is it, not a single club on the course, so this will be my first time in the world of Ping My Rationale We get so exhilarated when we watch DJ, Rory or Rahmbo hit their wedge just inches from the hole, but what about us mere mortals who hit our wedges, on the green, sometimes missing the green, and sometimes fat or thin. I am one of those guys who normally hit my wedge and be happy to get the ball to stay on the green, very lucky when it is anything closer to the hole for a decent chance at birdie, par, or bogey. I am one of those guys, who used to hit my wedges thin or fat. I am one of the guys who had to get creative with my hybrid, 9 & 7 iron, cause my wedges would scare the heck out of me! But I am not that guy anymore! I have more confidence with my wedges, I don’t use my hybrid around the green anymore, I can play a shot onto the green and the ball would check and stop rolling... I have gained a lot of confidence with my wedge game, so I will use my new found skill and confidence and apply it to my testing. Pings’s Webfit Wedge App With the launch of the S159 wedges, Ping also launched their Webfit Wedge app (btw, you can also do a Webfit for all your clubs). This app makes the daunting task of choosing a wedge really easy, as they take the fundamentals of your game, through an easy questionnaire, into consideration and give you the best suggestion to have as little gaps in your game as possible, because that’s how we will improve our short game! Check my results out: Ping suggested I take the S grind on all the wedges, which will help me with enhancing versatility around the green, or just calming my nerves! My Gameplan My game plan is to compare the Ping S159 to my current gamers, the Cleveland RTX Zipcore, which has been instrumental to calm my nerves and my hands. I will play my local, 18-hole par 3 course, Hazendal, twice a week for a month, so I can get used to the Pings and thoroughly test these wedges and see if I can make small incremental improvements or hoping they will be big strides of improvements. Then I want to apply those short game improvements, to the longer courses every weekend, and see how they translate to the everyday golfer and the mid to high handicapper. I have also booked a session at the The Pro Shop (our big national golf retailer offering fittings using track data), to see what my details are, like spin rate, launch angles, bounce control, all while playing my trusty Taylormade Soft response or Callaway Supersoft ball. Thank you for coming on this journey with me!18 points -

Good morning MGSpies from the wintery dark downtown parking spot this morning with flurries in the headlights in WNY Ulrich Schnauss' Here Today Gone Tomorrow on Pandora making a dark imploringly urgent ambiance while coffee mellows it for a perfect pre-work break before the office workday begins. Thoughts already on the warmup next week. Wrap around day, last week's trip started only a week ago and was a trip that seemed a week long but was only 4 days 5 hours. Won't be any outside here today but hope golf is a part of your day 7116 points -

Good morning everyone! I feel like winter is taking another stab at us this morning as I woke up to below freezing temps. It's going to warm up the rest of the week, but I don't think I was mentally prepared for it this morning. I survived the early start yesterday, it's amazing how much longer an hour can make the day. I did something yesterday I didn't normally do, I bought a Mountain Dew. I don't normally drink soda, but needed the caffeine. I hope you all have a wonderful day!16 points -

Morning all. Today’s forecast is cloudy, but the sun is out shining. I was out early at the indoor range and came back to find that my dog ate a pack of tortillas. Walked straight into his crate as soon as I found the empty plastic wrapping on the floor. He’s picked up some bad habits from my SIL’s dog.15 points -

Good morning all! Fine day yesterday with some decent weather, unfortunately the only reason I got out was to continue the tree cutting clean up. Getting there but still a good little ways to go. Kids did some research and found some historical maps from around 1919 when our large ash tree first started growing. Though bit of a lost magic day after that as our oldest busted up the Santa, tooth fairy, and Easter bunny. Thankfully he took it really well and actually found it very funny that I was the one who was going in to take his teeth. Still keeping the fun for his sisters. Kids is growing up too fast. Have a great Monday everyone.14 points -
Good morning Spies on what will be the warmest day this week, although low 40's for the high isn't saying much. Should be a normal Tuesday at work for me, which typically means the gathering of a lot of data, then adding details to it for weekly meeting material later in the week. As Derek @EasyPutter, mentioned, doesn't look like any outdoor activities related to golf here this week either, although next week appears to be warmer again. Hope that your day is the best it can be, and that something enjoyable is in your plans.14 points

Good morning everyone. Slightly warmer start today in the mid 30s. Feels like spring is going to be like a diesel engine and need awhile to warm up before it’s truly ready to go. My caddy schedule at Arbor Links is starting to fill up for April. Excited to get on the course again. Just have to be sure to leave enough time for myself to get out and play as well. Hope everyone has a great Tuesday.13 points -

Good Morning Spies! Thanks to all who wished me a Happy Birthday yesterday. As mentioned yesterday, we did end up going out to that new pizza place in town. It was pretty good. Leftovers for lunch. Also had to get our water heater fixed yesterday as the pressure valve was not sealing correctly on the side so the guy came and replaced all that and fixed us up. It was a pretty good day. But busy day today. Supposed to warm back up this afternoon. Everyone have a great day!9 points -

Good not quite yet real spring here either Morning!! Yeah Mr Sun is out, but temps dipped to the freezing mark overnight plus it's another day with crazy strong winds.... So no golf outside for me today and have acupuncture later this morning .. very much needed on the old back! .. and then an initial consult for LASIK. I'm a little leery about people poking around on the eyes but a few friends have done it and had great outcomes. It would be nice to see more clearly - especially out on the golf course! (.. e.g. so exactly how deep into the woods did that last shot go..? ) Ok well get out there and have a productive Tuesday all!!8 points -

Good morning Spies! Enjoying my coffee as I watch the snow fall in CNY. I feel like I let @GolfSpy_APH down yesterday. It was a busy morning for and I didn’t post. Had I known we were looking at a record day. I had my Monday run workout. A warm up of .5 mile run, 3x1000 (.62) for time then a .5 mile run to cool down. I also had my dermatology appointment. My Dr. recommended a new med for psoriasis that can also help with my psoriatic arthritis. I need to do some research to fully understand the side effects. It’s a biologic that appears to be pricey so I have to see if it’s even covered by insurance. The dermatologist is near Golf Galaxy so I had to pop in. They had a nice selection of putters. So I tried a few including some from L.A.B. Golf. It was the first time I’ve tried them in the wild. They felt nice. I has particularly taken by the Mezz 1 Max. They didn’t have a DF3 though which I would have liked to have tried. The DF 2.1 was not ungainly as I had expected. I did like the looks and feel of the new Evnroll putters with the new face insert. I also tried some Bettinardi putters. The new 2024 Inovai offering looks really good. They nailed the aesthetics. I think it felt good but the head was wrapped in plastic so judging it fully was limited. I did buy a new glove. I have always gotten along well with TaylorMade gloves. It was great to see @bens197 was selected to test the Ping S159 wedges. Congrats! We learned that our foster dog Dottie is fitting in really well in her fur-ever home. That makes us so happier to hear. Wishing all a wonderful day!7 points -

Good Tuesday morning from SE Wyoming to you MGS Troops! A hell of a time crawling out of bed this morning. Our muni course opens today, but I doubt I’ll play. I’m still loopy and sore from Mesquite and I have a Ping fitting on Friday that I want to be fresh for. Los Poopies fought to get up, but decided that the coffee ritual was important enough to join me. The hot tub was out of the question because I needed to shock it since I hadn’t added Chlorine since before the Mesquite trip. Tonight though. OK so... When I met my wife she had a male Golden - and his naughty eating adventures included... three pounds of raw chicken cutlets two whole plain pizzas a very large number of small foil wrapped chocolates that had filled an entire Christmas stocking (yes hanging from the fireplace mantel!) picking out of the garbage cans in the kids' rooms (he'd push through the baby gate at the bottom of the stairs) a large ham hock purloined from a neighbor's garage an unknown number of bowls of cat food outside of another neighbor's house ..and who knows what else!? These last two roaming adventures were before I started fixing gaps in the backyard fencing .. took a few tries but was finally able to contain him. And he was a large and thick coated Golden, so I did appreciate his determination! But the best was dinnertime - it took a while for me to realize what was going on, but one kid would come home from school and give the dog his dinner .. another kid came home later and .. yep .. gave him another dinner .. then either the third kid or my wife would come home and..... Apparently he had a *very* convincing 'I'm starving lemme show you where my dinner bowl is' act!! So the solution for that was hanging a calendar and a sharpie over the dog food storage bin -> feed him = "X" out the current day!!5 points -
