  1. ... Yup Scotty and I play the exact same club with the exact same specs. With the exception of mine at 10.5* turned down twice. And a Ventus Red instead of a Ventus Black. And his is 78 gms while mine is 58.5 gms. Oh yea and his is X flex and mine is R flex. But other than those very minor differences we could swap drivers and probably not even notice any difference.

  3. Well after a long day and electrical moves, we have a door! Bonus is that I now have a TV outlet outside so we didn't have to do j boxes.

  4. @sirchunksalot @jbern @William P @tdc1 Thanks for the well wishes. The surgery was event free for which I am grateful. I should be able to start golfing in a week or so. @Steve F At least you HAVE a team. As of yesterday, the NHL approved the dissolving of the Arizona NHL hockey franchise and reforming it in Utah. That sucks, there is no other way to put it. But, bring on the second season! There is no better time to watch hockey than right now!!!!

    How'd you play?

Today was a day like none I’ve had in quite a while. I played shots from parts of the course I’ve never been in before. First hole drove it left. Then skulled a pitch over the green, through the tree line and into the 4th fairway. Spectacular recovery. I made a 30 yard hole out for birdie. That was the highlight other than another birdie on hole 8. A couple doubles, bogeys and pars. Course was packed for some reason. Positive was I got to meet and play golf with a fellow spy. @ILMgolfnut. I sure wish the fairways would grow in. It’s all still hard pack which means tight lies.

    The Good Morning Thread

@jbern with now only 7 more Monday through Friday working days left at this time I am doing OK with upcoming retirement. I mentioned much earlier that a big reason for my decision was the lack of help or support from our "team members" mostly due to their attitudes of "not going to school to get my hands dirty" and their recent job title changes. That hasn't changed, although now they realize that they do not have a replacement or anyone else in that "team" with any mechanical skills or background. Other's have told me and convinced me that is NOT my problem. Working in the automotive industry, I believe that if you know and understand how things work, and why they work the way they do or are supposed to do so, a paper degree saying that you know and understand math for an engineering degree is only worth the price of the paper it is printed on. Hands on experience would trump being "book smart." My biggest fear or concern is the change to a "routine" of getting up and going to school or work since 1968, and then to full time work or employment since 1973. I do have a lot of outside work activities that I support and interest me, so I am hoping that spending additional time doing them will fill any gaps or needs. Financially, I am a typical working class American, and with Social Security benefits and a moderate or live within your means lifestyle it should be OK. If I need to work, I could get a part time job at a course like @tdroma98 or @Rob Person which would also keep me outdoors, interacting with other people, and on a golf course. @jbern and THANK YOU for asking!

  10. I just made it home from work and it is crazy how much I'm having to catch up on. I like it! For some strange reason, our ability to get good Internet service inside the plant has gone the way of the dodo bird and it's quite frustrating. @Josh Parker I'm just jealous of the deck. Honestly, it looks awesome and I know you'll make lots of memories there. @CFreddie happy anniversary! @GolfSpy_KFT I hope your oldest gets to feeling better. @Northern Monkey congratulations on the new personal best round! That's freaking awesome! @Wheelieb I hope you can find some answers to your ailments. @EnderinAZ I hope things went well for you today. @ILMgolfnut have fun today with @Tom the Golf Nut I've had the pleasure of playing a few rounds with him and he's a great player and fun to be around. Plus, he's a scholar and a gentleman. I've got a round scheduled tomorrow morning and it's going to be wet and sloppy after all the rain, but it's going to be a good time.

  11. Good Friday morning Spies! Sitting here enjoying my 2nd cup of coffee with the princes telling me to hurry up and get ready. My day to cook so it's breakfast at our local cafe and for some reason she seems to be in a hurry today? Looking forward to my lesson this afternoon and hoping we find something that is plain stupid and easy to fix as is usually the case. Fingers crossed... @EnderinAZ Hope your procedure goes well today and you are back on the course soon. @CFreddie Happy Anniversary and enjoy the alone time... @GolfSpy_KFT Hope the little one gets to feeling better quickly. @Northern Monkey Congrats on your great round! @Erin B Enjoy the comraderie if nothing else today. Memories can still be made in nasty weather... @Dead Solid Bogey Keep the humor coming as we all look for it daily! Won't be much longer and you will be back doing battle on the course and able to retreat to your safe haven on a regular basis. Everyone have a great day and start to the weekend!

  15. I’ve been playing the 5 dot that has been tipped 1/2” and shortened to 45” and I’m more impressed with it every time I play it. Just the played it in a VGA event in 35* weather. Yes it was snowing lightly and it was cold. The Newton shaft didn’t disappoint. The golfer may have, but the Newton did not.

  16. Well, the long drive to Vegas to pick up my Fiancé's aunt and come straight back was littered with pit stops including one specifically for beef jerky and a bag of rocks you fill up and keep for like $10. Cannot take her anywhere without the smallest bit of novelty I swear Glad to get home and kick my shoes off for the night. Tomorrow is a coursework filled day as I have been dreading writing these sociology assignments (it's all in your head Michael) but that is what tomorrow is looks like. Hope you guys had a more enjoyable day than myself

  18. Do the same drill with an iron but with shorter distances maybe start at 50 yards. You could also do Tour Tempo, Dr. Kwon's rope drill, or come up with a phase that you use on the backswing and downswing.

  20. Apr 19 update - Played today with the Men's group at my local course. Teamed up with a couple of guys who play pretty much even with me, so it was a good day to see how things shaped out. Also I was testing the Bridgestone Tour RB Mindset ball as part of the "unofficial" test. I have rolled a good number of putts with "Millie" (Odyssey AI-One Milled 7 DB) using this ball, but not as a stand alone testing round. What were my impressions of this combo - the Bridgestone ball and Millie - first the ball feels deeply familiar as it reminds me of a ProV1 but maybe a little less muted off the face (at least to my ears). Second - the distance control is phoenominal as this putter continues to just roll the ball to the hole, several birdies that just missed the cup stoppign less that 18" from the hole. Last and most importantly - the "Mindset" premise carries well into the putting and Millie likes it! Had several comments about how "smooth" the stroke was on the putt and I have to think its more the putter than the puttee. This putter continues to impress as it just rolls the ball so smoothly - even when just off the green. Had several that where the putter just delivered the pace to go center cup....Overall putting average has dropped to where it is hovering in the <30 putts per round range (including a record 26 putts in the rain last week, 31 today). Hopefully the other "Milled" group continues to see consistent play from their putters as well.

    The Good Morning Thread

@sirchunksalot Jason, have an "off topic" question, and if you don't want to reply here you can send me a message instead. I know that the U.A.W. had a VW plant targeted to see if the employees would be interested in joining their ranks. Was it your plant? Any idea on how the voting may have turned out? They tried previously and both other attempts had close voting, but majority ruled as no U.A.W. representation. Just curious, as living and working here in the Motor City area, I have seen and experienced many events with the U.A.W. and the automotive companies, both good and not so good.

  22. This morning’s round was very therapeutic, even though the temps were low and the wind was cold. The sun was shining, birds were chirping, and turkeys were gobbling in the distance. Needing to finish early, I hopped on the senior tees and proceeded to birdie 3 of the first 4 holes. I finished my round with 6 birdies, 5 bogeys, and 7 pars for a 71. I set a new personal best record with the 6 birdies, eclipsing my old record of 4 birdies in one round.

  27. Good morning, Spies. TGIFF!! It's been a long strange week. Well, it's just felt like that I guess. We're hoping to get the last base cabinet for the garage tomorrow, so we should have them all in and done by the end of the weekend. Just some countertops, pulls, and bench left to complete the redo. I need to reach out to my carpenter friend about the bench, now that I think about it. Golf lesson tomorrow (followed by some range time), last one of my package. Not sure what I'll do after that, since lessons are REALLY pricey these days. I may look to go the https://cogornogolf.com/ route, or maybe https://app.swingtweaks.com/, or something similar to continue to have eyes on at a better value proposition. If you have any experience with online lessons, please feel free to message me about it. I'd love to find something that works at a much better price point than my local pro. Weather is looking better to get some golf in next week. I'm hoping the rain stops and the temps at least are in the upper 60's to low 70's going forward. I just don't want to go to my fittings in 2 weeks having only played 1 round and a couple lessons. I guess this is the bad part of fittings in Spring (darn May birthday). Regardless, I'll do the fittings, make any buying decisions based on the fittings, and then likely go back in the fall for a follow-up fitting with what I have to see if any tweaks need to be made. I'll look to do fittings/follow-ups every Spring/Fall going forward with David at Fairways & Greens (assuming it's a good experience to start with) to establish that fitter/golfer relationship which I feel is a good thing to have in this sport. Well, I suppose I should go do some work.

  28. Morning everyone, hope all that are feeling down get some much needed relief soon! I’m watching a little RBC Heritage this morning. I woke up to find out (from my wife, a huge Swiftie) that Taylor Swift released a new album last night so I’m sure that’s all I’ll hear at the house and in the car for a good month or two haha! Excited that the NBA playoffs are getting rolling and ready to make it to a game or two in the coming weeks! Hope everyone has a great Friday and gets some golf into the weekend plans!

  29. Good morning, fellow golfers, I was able to take a day off from work yesterday and play 18 holes with my daughter at Sherman Hills Golf Course. I shot a +12. The exciting part about it was bombing my drives. I made a small change based on something I watched on YouTube by Danny Maude (keeping the elbows in), and it seemed to work. I was consistently over 260 and even had a drive of 294. Of course, playing from the reds was just outdriving me on many of the holes. So, she is grounded for the next 2 weeks LOL I also played with the Bridgestone RXS mindset. I will post my full review with videos, but it is a great ball! Have a great weekend, and hit 'em straight!

  30. Good morning Spies and TGIF! Should be a pretty low-key day with no plans on the agenda. Weather is looking decent with temps reaching the high 50s with some sun. Tomorrow morning looking a bit chilly for my golf round, but I'll just be happy to get out there. Was able to catch a bit of the RBC Heritage and the Chevron Championship yesterday. Nelly finished birdie-birdie on last two holes to shoot a solid -4 for her first round. She has gone from +550 odds to win the tournament before it started to +210 odds now (she's 3 back from the leader!) Hope everyone has a great Friday!

  36. Geezch.. @Erin B and the Wyoming cadre would hardly ever get to play if 15 mph was the cut off point. My part of Texas blows hard ( NO jokes, please; I am trying to be sensitive in my old age ) a significant amount of the time. I play unless the wind starts blowing me over.

    How'd you play?

Played 18 this morning and had my best round ever. +1 for front 9 and +4 coming in. Got stuck behind a few slower groups coming in and lost my rhythm with waiting around or could have been even better. Only missed 1 fairway all day and had 14 pars so very happy. If only I could play like this all the time

I’m really interested in how the Mindset affects your approach to each shot — do you go all Jason-Day-3-step process even if the Mindset logo isn’t visible?

  42. My issue is that the overhead garage door opener unit is hanging right in the middle, dangerously close to my swing path. If I'd put the net on the other side of the garage, it wouldn't be an issue, but at this point rearranging the setup is not an option. I've clipped the opener a couple of times on my follow through; no real damage (yet). I did kind of angle the net a little bit to get out of the danger zone. Hope that solves the problem. Because I don't own the Casa, I didn't want to hang a projector from the ceiling, so went with Chromecast from my phone to a 43" TV instead.

  45. @Dead Solid Bogey Thanks. No coffee, no water, no food, get to shower with this nasty soap that kind of burns off the first layer or so of skin, and no you don't use it there. All in preparation for my date with the doctor and his scalpel later this morning. But it could mean I am golfing in a week or so. For now, I am going to be happy with pain-free walks in the heat of the sunny weekend days. Supposed to reach near 100 on Sunday! Hope everyone has a great weekend

  47. Anything abrasive should get the job done. I would start with the least abrasive option and then work your way up as needed. Simichrome paste works well on very light oxidation and other small blemishes in the finish

  48. I'm pretty dedicated to getting better so I don't just swap clubs in my bag willie nillie. BUT I buy new stuff constantly and if it doesn't outperform what I already have I just sell it. That being said I have about 5 bags worth of clubs at all times haha!!!!
    1 point
  49. The one thing that has kept me from purchasing more clubs this year is back fusion surgery. I can't go hit any of the clubs I am interested in so that is holding me back. Even trying a putter made my back sore, but just in the last week things have started feeling better and I start PT today. I can't wait to hit some new drivers, maybe the PXG Black OPS stuff and a few others, my concern is my swing speed will be down since I haven't swung a club since January and that will skew any results. My Srixon ZX 5 MKii irons are safe and probably my putter, for now. I acknowledge I have a problem buying clubs, but I embrace it. I am really missing all the free club fittings and hitting clubs at PGA tour superstore that I usually partake in this time of year.

  50. Oh my, now you've gone and done it and opened Pandora's box. Guilty as charged. I admit, I like testing new equipment and every year will schedule at least two fittings to try things I like. Does it always go in the bag? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. But at the very least, I make notes on what I like, what worked well, what shafts I liked and what didn't. Case in point, did a recent Ping fitting looking at the Blueprint S irons. Really nice irons, great feel, performed well, until I saw the price. They were approaching Miura territory, so my Mizuno's are safe for now.
