  1. All of you are making it so hard to keep on all the forum goings on! Which is fantastic! Been a cool stretch for all of us and nice to see so many new names participating on the forum. Big welcome to all of the near 3k that have joined this month so far. Last day of work before a 4 day weekend and only a month left before the season is over for a little bit for me. Then take the ice out and let the real work begin - due to all the issues and failures causing a host of issues the last several seasons the hall called for an emergency meeting to replace the system. This is no small task and a huge cost, but also one that needs to be done. The plans are all in place and now just a few small things to sign off on and we are going to get started! The timeline will be tight to get it all done in the short offseason (5 weeks) and may mean we start our season a bit later than normal (woohoo more time off for me!). So no matter what it will be a clear win win for me and I will finally have a system that I can trust and rely on.

  2. Morning all, it’s a nice sunny start to the day here. Not sure how long it will last as rain forecast later so will have to see how it goes. Hope you all have a great Easter weekend

  3. Hope you had a good birthday, @jbern! @MattWillGolf That pittie looks like a cute one. @rkj427 Sounds like Detroit will have a fun Draft week. – Morning all. It’s Easter time here, so everything is closed today, Friday, Sunday and Monday—except for bakeries and home and gardening stores. I suppose because on holidays folks eat bread and catch up on gardening. For us, we’ll be taking dog walks, working around the house, maybe start prepping the backyard for spring and summer. Not sure golf is on the agenda, but hopefully grilling is. Best health to all.

  5. Good morning Spies on this Community Call Thursday from a soon to be sunny day here in Michigan. No commute day for me, so an earlier start to my typical workday, but I have a couple meetings to attend and present, and then work in data systems afterwards. @berkeleybob it has been many years since everything closed up for Easter here, although the major automotive companies give their employees both Friday and Monday off as holidays. Stores will be open, many even on Easter Sunday. Hoping to see many members on the call later, to see what Jamie, @GolfSpy_APH, and Ben, @GolfSpy_BEN, and Matt, @GolfSpy SAM have in place to share this week. Hope that your day is the best it can be, and that something fun and enjoyable is in your plans.

  7. Good morning everyone! It's community call day and I'll pop in on my drive home today. I have a doctor's appointment after work and will be on the road about the time it starts. I was supposed to play today and had to cancel, so I'm a bit bummed about that. I actually slept until my second alarm sounded this morning, I don't know what happened to the first one because I don't remember hearing it. I hope you all have a wonderful day!

  8. I can't lie, I'm drooling over here!!! Couple questions as testing officially starts... What was your normal preferred shots with each of your previous wedges? Do you think these will help you expand on your shot capabilities over previous wedges?

  9. You can’t cover that prettiness…gotta let ‘em shine! For science, show-off…good with whatever you call it. Looking for some videos of low one hop checkers and overall shot control…put these things through the whole range of scrambling!

  10. Good morning spies! Ranger Rob duties today, then hoping to get a round in after that. I know it's only been 10 days, 4 hours, and 33 minutes since I last played or did range time, but it feels like an eternity! Looking forward to the CC later!

    How'd you play?

    Georgeous weather this morning at Heritage Isles, overcast with 69* - 80*. I shot a 45/39:84 with only 1 birdie(par 3 #16), Longest Drive was 218 yds, FIR 10/14 71% GIR 10/18 56% and a whopping 38 putts….again.

  14. Today I got a special delivery from Japan. I love this shape and the short slant with mid mallet is my fav type of putter. I found this on Golf Partner on ebay for $80 shipped which is a crazy deal for this putter. I never ordered from Japan on Ebay but to my surprise, it arrived 3 days later and with a perfect magnetic headcover, club head in plastic still. This seller is going to be getting a lot of my business as I love Japanese obscure stuff. The putter face is Aluminum milled and the body is carbon steel. Very soft, very balanced. Goin right into the bag.

  18. @MattWillGolf dunno but kinda looks like that cute furry snuggler has maybe kinda "adopted" you... Your wife and you are good people. (.. my wife and I would be the complete "fail" people as in wanting to keep any pup we had in our house .. and I mean like ALL the pups!...) @tdc1 great pic! So cute when big dogs get cozy with their toys! (..mine! ..mine mine mine...) @GolfSpy AFG good info and I can see the benefits .. buuut .. if I plunge into 40s degree water I'm wearing a 5mm wetsuit with a hood and probably a thermal layer underneath, 7mm booties with thermal socks and 5 or 7mm gloves or mitts!!!

  19. Good morning spies! Well took the A&M 9000 back to the practice putting green yesterday and tested a whole bunch of different balls. Conclusion?? If you putt with a cheap to mid range cost ball you are most likely giving away strokes with your putter. I really like QStar-Tour Divides. It is a good spinning ball that I can work. But, when the last sleeves in the box are gone I probably wont go and get more. Curious? Check out my last write up. Nope no video this time...

  20. Well as it’s the last day of the week and Simon at Runner Golf said he was hoping to get the putters posted by the end of the week so I will be spending my day constantly refreshing my email feed in the hope of a despatched email

  21. I faced that choice and I went with Garmin: Both have a subscription, but without the $200 a year for Rapsodo you lose a lot of functionality. You pay for some things that Garmin does for free. And you still need the special Callaway RPT balls. The $99 Garmin subscription largely gets me access to Home Tee Hero -- which means I can play sim rounds on 43,000 courses. That's worth the hundo right there. Practice on the courses I'll play in Scotland in July? They're all available. Pebble Beach? Yup. Augusta? Yup. This week's course on the PGA Tour? That too. I would like accurate spin numbers too in my quest for more carry on my drives, and I'll probably cough up for the RCT balls soon. But I don't have to have them.

    How'd you play?

Was able to walk 9 this morning before the weather came in, the threat kept everyone away as I was basically alone on the course which was phenomenal. Shot +8 which was a great start to the season for me. One very lucky birdie on an extremely long putt. My iron play was great but with the wedges around the greens I was terrible. Lucky enough to have plenty of time to go ahead and replay a few bad shots after I finished the hole out. Very thankful the weather held out and it was actually sunny half the time. I need to try and work on taking more photos while I play, but I honestly keep the phone away and focus on play especially on a day like today with nobody around. Looking forward to a possible Easter Day round if things pan out.

  23. I just appreciate the FJ glove on the left hand (not sure why that’s the only one that gets cold?) and the Titleist hat (since most heat is lost through the head anyways!) I will occasionally swap the shower faucet to cold on hot days in an effort to cool down faster, but the initial hit of cold will rattle you.

  24. @GolfSpy_APH The breathing part is super rough the first few times, it gets easier though. I started at 30 seconds now at 2:30. If you end up giving it another shot, it gets easier.

    How'd you play?

I think I'm really going to like these ZX7s. Had kind of a cold start with them while I figured out how to play them and what distances I should be play for on each club. They're about 1/2 a club longer for me at the top end, = in the mids, and marginally shorter at the bottom end since the 9, PW, and AW are much more traditional lofts. I went 6 over through five holes then caught fire and finished 3 over for the final 13 holes. That's with two three putt bogeys on the back 9 One of the three putts was not paying attention from 3 feet and the other was gunning it by the hole trying to get a birdie. Ended up 41/40 81. I knew I was playing well, but wasn't paying attention to the score. The better part of the day was that I played with an older friend of mine who's come off a bad couple years of health. He played 18 holes with me for the first time in over two years.

  28. I feel you, they have it perfected and sometimes think it's a genetic thing they're born with. Mine hit me with it today, I thought I had a doctor's appointment to establish myself as a patient and get a colonoscopy scheduled and blood work. (I've never been good at taking care of myself). I got there today and found out it's tomorrow. Well, I had a round scheduled for tomorrow and won't be able to make it if I go to the doc. I had to cancel the round because I knew I would get the death stare if I chose to play over going to the doctor. I can be wise sometimes. She still have me the look after getting home and explaining everything, I'm am glad she worries about me.

  29. Done with my daughter’s appointment. Appreciate all the prayers and support. Doctor thinks it’s IBS, possibly Gastritis. He took some biopsies during the scope. Should have those results by Friday or early next week. So for the time being at least it’s nothing serious.

  31. Today’s medical adventure was just my annual eye exam. Small prescription change but I’m okay with that. Eye drops wearing off and thank goodness for the clouds! I have to play with my glasses so I need to decide what color clip on sunglasses to get. Currently have a dark amber but am wondering if another color might be better. Catching up here, then reading for a bit and bowling this afternoon (I love this perk of my course membership in cold and/or yucky weather). Second cup of coffee at hand but since I’ve finished off the morning belVita biscuits my faithful assistant has lost interest. Oh, well. Y'all have a great day!

  32. Good Wednesday morning Spies! Day is starting off on the cold side but should warm up nicely. Today is yard day but hopefully I can sneak off later in the day and get some range time in. Still working on getting the driver AOA to a positive position at impact... Not sure what it is going to take to get to shallower swing plane, but I will persevere... Wishing you a speedy recovery and return to the game @Dead Solid Bogey. Everyone have a great day and if you get the opportunity hit 'em straight!

  33. Good morning, Spies! Sending prayers your daughter's way @Girldad18. May she get a good report. No golf for me today, but I have a bit of afterglow after a breakthrough/reset lesson yesterday. I had my swing all screwed up trying to fix my over the top motion I have been struggling with (and slowly fixing). We went back to some basics from last year, and the result is a much more comfortable swing for me that I know works, because it worked well for me last summer. Why did I not just do that? This silly game. This is why coaches are so invaluable if, like me, one does not have the experience to analyze the swing completely. Now to keep working on it so it becomes second nature. Again. I hope you all have wonderful days with golf involved.

  36. I used to play a lot! I joined a CC and was just an above average hacker though. Playing was all about not loosing too much money and too many balls! I took lessons from our club pro and got my handicap down to about an 11 or 12. Thanks Bobby Hall PGA pro! Life changed direction for us and I put golf on the way-back burner except for charity tournaments once or twice a year. Scroll life ahead 20 years and early retirement left me feeling the itch to play again. I’ve gotten decent but still looking for more out of myself. So, I’m a little nervous as I have my first lesson today (with a PGA pro) since the 90’s. Current HCI 14.2. Low HCI 12.6 at the end of last fall. Lessons objective is better contact with my irons, short game improvement and help with my course management skills. If it’s okay with admin, I’ll post about my progress periodically over my first three lessons.

  38. Morning spies. So you may have noticed an article I wrote appeared on the main site today concerning my own experiences with cold plunging, aka ice baths or cold water immersion. If you haven’t seen it yet, here it is: https://mygolfspy.com/news-opinion/why-you-should-consider-cold-plunging/ I wanted to start this thread for multiple reasons. 1) yes, that’s me in the feature photo…here’s the safe space for @cnosil, @GolfSpy BOS and others to get their jokes in. 2) Answer any questions you might have or perhaps share your own experiences 3) Get your feedback…am I off the deep end? How crazy is this? I try to avoid sensationalizing things so I tried to throttle back the enthusiasm a bit for the article, but I have to say, cold plunging has been truly life-changing for me. It’s not the sole contributor but I’m in the midst of a pretty significant improvement in my overall health and cold plunging is a big part of it. Ask away! (And if you do have comments on the article don’t be shy about commenting directly there…helps us writers, and helps the forum and main site.)

  39. not necessarily thinking of something new, but struggling with my putters. bouncing back and forth between my tri-hot seven, and my triple wide. but I also have a toulon chicago that I would LOVE to put into play regularly (it was a gift custom/personalized) but I can bring myself to do it every round. maybe I should pick the Chicago and get rid of the others

  44. Tons of studies tons of benefits, in the end it still really sucks during! Great article and look forward to seeing long term benefits Hayes! Want to get into this but didn’t bite the bullet over the winter, something about being 10* out getting into 34* water seemed extremely brutal….maybe when I can get it into a halfway warm room

  45. After watching me warm up, he mentioned that there were three glaring things for us to work on. They are grip, posture and setup. Within 5 shots I had stopped chuncking huge divots and was very effortlessly blasting my 7i straight and long. Amazing! I’ve some drills that I’ll keep working on until our next lesson. I was very pleased with my pro Michael Brisbane.

  46. So not a true cold plunge I did try this a little while ago via a cold shower after Hayes had been on his kick about this... It may have been the worst 45 seconds of my life. I was breathing so heavily and miserable during that time. Did it feel that much better afterwards? I don't remember ... I was too busy trying to warm up haha In truth I know there are many benefits to it and it is something I may try to lean into a little more, but the cold shower is just killer.

  48. @Kenny B, replying to your Good Morning Thread comment here rather than taking over that thread. I appreciate the feedback, and I’ll never disagree with talking to a doctor. Not sure I’m in agreement on the spike in blood pressure though. Sure, that happens in the very near term due to the vasoconstriction you mentioned, but it’s actually been suggested that in the long-term cold-plunging could lower blood pressure, potentially due to the perpetual mobilization of brown fat.
    3 points
  49. So when I’m traveling or for whatever reason can’t get near a cold plunge I’ll go for the cold shower, but in my experience it’s not cold enough and generally doesn’t have the same impact as full immersion. It does work in terms of some feel good benefits an hour or so later, but in my experience not nearly as effectively.
