  1. Nick, You're definitely correct that the selection process isn't random. We try to be very upfront about that. Testing isn't about winning a contest. The reason that it's not random is that we've got two groups that we are serving here. The first is our forum readers; the second is the OEMs. So to take the Titleist test as an example: obviously, there was huge demand to get in on this test, and rightfully so. From time to time, we've picked members for testing who receive the product and are not heard from again. This fails to serve our readers, who really want to find out what

  2. What works best for your long game? Do you prefer to go for the gusto with fairway woods, or perhaps seek the control of a driving iron, maybe the forgiveness provided by hybrids? Well the Ben Hogan Golf Company has options available in all three categories. This may very well be the largest forum test ever conducted on the internet. Can you say MEGA TESTING? We’re going to give 15 of you a chance to test one of these in the category you choose, no that’s not a misprint. Fifteen forum members will get a chance to test a GS3 Fairway wood, UHI driving iron or a VKTR+ hybrid.

  3. Since you read the thread about being selected you do understand the process. New forum members are picked for testing; they are generally lower cost items like ball, shoes, shafts, wedges, superspeed sticks, etc. The selection teams doesn’t expect everyone to make thousands of posts; just that they contribute and stay engaged. Find the topics that you are interested in and get some dialog going. Testing for MGS is a commitment over several months that requires continuous engagement on the forum and potentially social media. Those that just apply to get free stuff won’t read your p

The selection committee will be working late into the night. Testers will be announced Thursday sometime. Entries Closed.

  5. TESTERS ANNOUNCED! Is it possible for a golf equipment company to simultaneously be a colossus—and underrated, at the same time? Consider this: Titleist had the most played ball at the most recently-completed Tour event. That surprises no one. And maybe you'd guess that they had the wedge and putter categories as well. Possibly irons also. But driver? I'm guessing that other OEMs likely come to mind quicker when it comes to Tour presence with the big stick. But maybe those guys know something we don't.... We need some Forum members to let us know how the new

A few thoughts from me, even though they don't really mean as much as what's been said here by the moderating group, but this is just my perspective as someone who has been lucky enough to test the past few years. 1) Specifically for my guy @necostanzo, I'm so happy you came at this thread from a point of understanding and reasoning rather than jealousy and rage. I cannot tell you how many posts we've seen here from people who are just mad they never get picked, but you're willing to learn and understand the process, which will go a long way toward earning respect and acclaim from everyon

  7. My daughter is home, safe and sound! The fam and I all appreciate the kind words from everyone who was thinking about her. She's still a little zoned out from the meds, but she's got Netflix and she asked for her favorite blueberry muffin from Dunkies to munch so, hopefully she keeps that one down (those meds side effects are no joke). We'll be back up in Boston on Tuesday for our first followup with the surgeon, fingers crossed for a good report. Thanks again everyone.

  8. Maiden voyage for my new Honma irons. 38/40:78 2 bogies and 2 doubles. Only hit 6 fairways but the misses were mostly just in the rough. Couple of bad tee shots with one ending up with a penalty stroke. Irons were fabulous; hit 12 greens, 1 was just off, and 1 was about 7 feet off. Need to add the 11 (gap) iron to the set. Shafts might be a little light but the clubs performed very well. My original thought was that these clubs were going to be about a club shorter than my Srixon's. In reality, I was getting about the same distance. The only green I missed on th

I have learned in the past couple of days, how much work is done by the staff and also learned some more about the staff themselves, from conversations. So if you guys have not heard recently. Thank you @Golfspy_CG2 @GolfSpy MPR @GolfSpy Stroker and @GolfSpy STUDque for the hard work and dedication you guys put day in and day out to this forum.

  12. Friday 72 6/14 FIR 13/18 GIR 29 Putts Hit it great, super easy 72 without ever making a putt. Longest made putt of the day was 5 feet. Saturday 78 2/14 FIR 6/18 GIR 27 putts Had no idea where the ball was going all day long. Just a complete ball striking nightmare. Driver especially. I had 4 recovery shots on back 9 alone. Sunday 70 (par 73) 9/14 FIR 13/18 GIR 28 Putts Started on range warming up and still no idea where the ball was going. Wimpy push cut on first hole, still in fairway, with 166 left, hit 8

  13. Well got a phone call today John Smalls is coming down for all of next week to play golf. This is going to be a hoot. One of my regular team partners had knee surgery yesterday and was walking around today. The Doc gave him the green light for playing Monday. So he can play with John and I. But he is going to play on the team tomorrow putting only. We will alternate his other shots exactly like they did with me when I could not swing. One of the owners of the course I have been told has a Red Cross flag for our cart. But hardly no one knows I have worked hard and am back about 90% now. Yep I

  14. This is not an attack on anyone.but @necostanzo11 posts in 3 years is not active. The titleist thread would not be a good hill to stand on because a lot of very active members were not selected and several newer folks were which is great! i hope you get involved and enjoy the threads because there is so much here but this thread is very off base. 15. MGS puts their rep on the line to have great feed back from their testers so there is a risk to selecting the tester. If they ship a new driver to someone and they pull a jimmy hoffa MGS looks bad, so I think the content numbers do help prove the member is engaged and committed to providing the best test results they can give. I only have 200 plus content numbers and was selected to test golf balls in summer which was awesome. Due to my busy work schedule as of late and just life in general I haven't been as active as I was in the summer. I think if a member showed they are engaging in the dis

  17. The grounds are not photogenic, but this serves its purpose. It's fall here in Connecticut, so not a lot of grass. Still gotta practice! TrueStrike golf mat, a good net mounted on a tree and 10' 4"x4" post, a home made driving range club stand, and a custom made cedar golf shed for my chipping mat, chipping target net, etc. I have a heavy duty tarp to keep the mat in good condition (10yrs old!). 18. Everything that's been going on the past few weeks with my daughter and being up in Boston at Childrens and seeing some of the kids and their families has really put things in perspective for me. I watch my daughter trying to get around the house and do things on her own (even though my wife and I need to do a lot for her while she recovers, she's a very strong and independent minded 19yo), and I think about some of the kids we've seen and what they're trying to work their way through, and it's really just made me take a step back and reassess a lot of things that we've taken for granted. 20. So today we played the final round of my Members League Championship. I've talked about how it works, the top 50 money winners play two rounds after which the top 10 gross and net score players advance to the finals where we reset and crown a Gross and a Net Champion. I made it to day's finals which I'm proud of. I also played pretty well today shooting an 84, but two poor swings really hurt me. One was a drive that was only about 10 yards off the fairway but ended up against the front(%#*????!!!) of a tree which forced me to take an unplayable because naturally it settled into a hollow

  21. 46/46 for a 92. the good news is the really great shots are starting to outweigh the truly bad ones. stuffed a few wedges to within 3’ from 90-120, chipped pretty well, and a birdie on the par 5 18 which is always nice we had a ton of rain recently and i got out early, so the greens were super soft and slow. putting wasn’t great today i feel like i’m really close to shooting in the low-mid 80s consistently. i know that part of it is just losing focus on a few shots each round. another part of it is not having confidence in my equipment. it’s hard to go at shots knowin

  24. Day 1 of our Saturday Blitz Two Day semiannual tourney. Weather was Sunny and 70* at Shotgun start. We had 31 players ready to go. I shot a 43/39:82 with 2 Birdies. That put in tied for 5th with +2 on my quota of 25 points. Played all 18 holes with one ball, Wilson Staff Professional. The Leader was +7, so I have a chance of a good finish this year. 27. That right there show you definitely belong here! I can relate to the rest of your post so much. I work as the Tournament Director at a golf course. I'm probably the worst player that works here, yet I am the first one even the Head Pro comes to for equipment questions. They know about my role here and that I test and buy more equipment than they will ever think of carrying in the pro shop. You've gotten some great feedback from our members, as I knew you would. I'll just add one thing that I like to make 100% clear to everyone. "Being Active" is not what most people think.

I play golf regularly and also provide my expertise to our local Srixon/Cleveland rep by being a certified fitter. I'm considered by my golfing friends as the most knowledgeable and understanding of the golf swing and they are always asking me to fit them in their next set of clubs. I'm particularly focused on driver shafts and am considered a "shaft hoe" having played most aftermarket Fujikura and graphite design

  34. Wilson Staff D7 Forged – Official MGS Forum Review by Mike Eovino (a.k.a. HardcoreLooper) Intro As I stand here on the doorstep of 50, unwilling to ring the bell just yet, I think constantly of the Robert Browning quote my wife keeps in the kitchen. "The best is yet to be." I keep hoping my best golf is still in the windshield and not the rearview mirror, but it's hard not to look back on what was. I have to imagine it's the same for Wilson Golf. All those wins. All those majors. All those sales. Sarazen. Snead. Palmer. Casper. Miller. Irwin. Crenshaw. Langer. Daly.

  36. Great company but just awful play by me. Horrendous would be an apt way of describing it. Then I asked @Tsmithjr9 if he wanted to hit a Wilson on a par 3. He did and then made a comment that sat and festered in the back of my head the rest of the day. I ordered them with 6.0 shafts but if you look at this pic, the top is the 7, then 8, then 9. I've reached out to the Mods and hopefully Wilson will do me right.

After warming up on the range I looked over at the putting green... flags!!! We haven't had flags on the putting or pitching greens since March. No holes; just flags with bumpers stuck in the green. This means I advance with the top 10 gross players to next week when we reset and shoot it out for the Gross and Net titles. You then have to carry a big wetland area on your second, and on your third, water surrounds the green on the left side of and behind the green. We call it the "hol
