I don't normally post on How'd You Play because somehow I haven't felt quite good enough that anyone would want to know. But today is different. Today I was the happiest person on the golf course and even danced around one of the greens when I made a 2nd birdie. But best of all, I finally broke 90 with an 84. Woohoo! It's like my 3 wood made up it's mind to take control of my game this afternoon but allowed me to go along to view the scenery. It was quite a surreal feeling. I thought I had lost it all on #17 when my drive bounced OB on the right and my next shot soared all the way across the fairway into a lake. Completed that hole with my only 7 of the day.

I played my first round with a member of the forum today and it was a blast! Back around the beginning of April, David a.k.a. @KillerGees contacted me noting we live in the same area and asked if we could meet up sometime and play. He brought Jesse, a friend from work to my local course. They're great guys and we had a good time. We're going to get together again around July once his course finishes the repairs on their greens. I shot 48/47 for a 95 hitting 6 fairways and zero greens. My short game was on fire with Arccos recording 4 chip and downs and 32 putts. I had to do something to make up for my abysmal approach game . We walked the course, the first time I've ever walked 18 holes and I'm just glad the course had a push cart I could use, even if one of the back tires was about to come off and wobbled the whole time. I'm going to be sore in the morning, but I actually enjoyed walking as I feel it slowed me down and helped with the focus. Except when I was gasping for breath. This is what the forum is all about, it's not only getting to talk to great folks online but getting to meet and golf with another member is awesome.

Yesterday evening. Me: Hears 17yo daughter pick up package from front door. “What did we get?” 17yo: I don’t know, I didn’t order anything. Me: Looks at wife and we simultaneously say “open it”. Daughter grabs knife and walks in other room. And says “did you order a new golf bag?” Wife: “OH S$%T” Apparently she forgot that she ordered me a Father’s Day gift on Monday and it arrived Thursday. I am a pretty lucky guy. And if you want to hear about the new stix in the bag check out our review just kicking off.

... Finally able to put a good round together and my first under par round of 2020. Been a rough Spring with Covid, record breaking rain which meant DEEP rough and a ton of wind. I have not been able to play 2 days in a row or even 2 times in 5 days and I am spoiled preferring to play 4 or 5 days in a row to get in a groove. Windy again today with 20-25 mph winds but pretty steady and not gusty so they were easier to navigate. I play the Blues but teed off on the Whites for 3 holes dead into the wind. To compensate I moved back to the Gold tees for 3 holes that were downwind so I figure it evened out. Extremely happy with 14 GIR's as my P760 irons were really working well today and I would have easily shot in the 60's if my T100-S would show up. I actually milked everything I could out of the round and had a few lies in the rough that were better than they should have been. I think every par 5 is a birdie hole and 15 really did a number on me as I went from hitting my tee shot into the rough when the wind blew it 20 yds sideways and I missed may starting point, leaving me a foot into the rough instead of fairway, then hit a hybrid into the rough again and finally a knockdown 9 iron the bore thru the wind and into the rough over the green. Gouged out a LW to 10 feet and made the putt when I actually missed my line and the wind blew it into the hole as it died so I got lucky.

Learned a hard lesson today. When my husband points and tells me "that's your ball" down in that fluffy grass, I better check instead of blindly trusting. So I hit the wrong ball resulting in a penalty that kept me from breaking 90 a second time. Same type situation happened to me when I first started playing and I have always checked until it was my husband. Note to self - ONLY trust myself to identify my ball.

Played 18 today with dad at the course hosting the district qualifier next month. Lots of positives and some really good course management today. 39/37 with 3 birdies and a double. If I could gripe about one thing, my was not great. 5 over round was a big deal for me as I had never broken 80 on this course until today. I strung 3 bogeys in a row on 15-17 but finished 18 with a bird. It’s at the south end of Canandaigua Lake and the views are fantastic. One amusing shot from today...I landed the ball square on the top of the flag. The black nut that keeps the flag secured left a nice ding as a reminder.

Let it be known that the golf gods did not look kindly to me questioning another man's definition of a dumpster fire. Is there such thing as a nuclear version of a dumpster fire? Well, it happened to me in league last night.... It all started innocently enough. 3H to the fairway, AW to ~15 feet and a three putt. Then I promptly hit the next tee shot OB (by only a few feet), followed by less-than-optimal recovery through trees, a decent 3W, and a chip to the center of the green for another 3-putt. To summarize, I tripled both par 5's, had three 3-putts, and was 13 over when I stepped to the 7th tee. Fortunately, I pulled my head out of my a$$ and managed to bogey, par, par my way in for a 50 (+14). Strangely, I was hitting my irons very solid and, with only one obvious exception, exactly where I wanted them to go. Even then, I hit one of them "too well", if there is such a thing. On the 6th hole, I had a good drive with about 165 to the center of the green with a slight helping breeze. I was thinking stock 7 iron since that's my 160 club. Maybe SuperSpeed training is somewhat to blame, but I smoked that 7 iron - laser-straight, right at the center of the green, but it flew the green... and the bunker behind it. Past the bunker is a down-slope that kicked my ball away from the green and under trees. Since I could not get the ball in the air, I tried to bash an 8 iron into the bank on the back side of the bunker and hope for a good bounce, but I flew it. Another pathetic chip and a 3-putt for a triple. When I was editing my round in Arccos, I moved the 7 iron to the approximate area it landed to figure out the carry - ~ 180-185. Not what I intended. Driving = garbage Irons = better than I've hit them in a while Chipping = garbage Putting = garbage So there, that is my definition of a dumpster fire.

    - 38/45 = 83 (+11) - 7/15 FIR - 5/18 GIR (1 birdie) - 31 Putts (2 3-putts , 9 2-putts, 7 1-putts) - 2:45 Round Time This goes down as one of my better rounds ever, and probably my best ball striking round of my life. I struck the ball extremely well on the front with most every club and really only had one or two awful shots. Went to the course with a few new swing thoughts and they really helped. Back nine didn't go as well, still struck the ball well, but got a little hooky and had two shots sail OB left that hurt my score. I started to get tired near the end again, and ended up shanking an approach on No. 16 and topping a drive on No. 18. Remove those two penalties and wasted shots and I had a legitimate chance to break 80. Driver still isn't good at all, but the irons are coming along nicely now. My balance is all out of whack with the driver, and I need to figure out how to not end up with my weight falling forward in my downswing. It's causing all my drives to be off the heel, the good ones being OK cuts or baby fades and the awful ones being low-left spinners.

    - 43/42 = 85 (+13) - 10/15 FIR - 7/18 GIR (1 birdie) - 36 Putts (4 3-putts , 10 2-putts, 4 1-putts) - 2:45 Round Time FINALLY! I sorted out the gremlin in my swing and was able to get the ball off the tee box today, and I struck a handful of really great irons, also. All I was thinking about today was making sure I was bent over less and had good weight distribution in my setup. Helped immensely. Only threw away two shots - a topped six iron on No. 3 and a finesse shank from about 110 on No. 10. Had a birdie on the front and reeled off four-straight pars on the back nine before I started getting a little wild off the tee and that hurt me on 15, 16 and 17. Sadly, two of the 3-putts were after hitting the GIR. Need to clean that up! Would have been a pretty great scoring round for me had I not had those bad putting holes. Still not hitting the ball spectacularly, but this gives me a lot of confidence moving forward. I ordered a flexible phone mount to attach to my cart, and I videoed hole No. 1, which I parred. I have a ton of respect for people who do full course vlogs, it takes a lot of time to even do one hole. I don't think I would want to do a whole round, but I may do a hole here or there as the season goes just for fun.

Question:. Is there anything slower than the last few hours of the work week before a long weekend? Answer: Yes! Waiting for the FedEx guy to show up knowing your new irons are in his truck! It feels like it is Tuesday already! A couple quick pics below. These T200's look amazing and the practice swings feel as good as they look! I will give one tiny critique. My specs I sent were for all logos up and the shaft logos are down. Not a huge deal and I may be at fault for not clarifying before hand. 8-Iron Comparison L T200 R Sub70 699 Topline is definitely thinner and less offset on the T200's in the short irons Sent from my Moto Z3 Play using MyGolfSpy mobile app

Hey everyone. I'm hoping I can progress through the ranks and eventually become a full fledged member. I will say, the last time I was a new recruit, the government shaved my head and eventually sent me to the desert a few times. I hope the outcome is a little different this time around.

Another update, Apparently FedEx was wrong that the destination sort facility my irons were at was the last place before the truck. I just got a notice that they were just put on a truck for delivery 5 minutes ago in Clear Lake, IA which is about 30 minutes from me!I decided no pacing, instead I have my spot picked out until they arrive! Get DEADLY around the greens and your cap will drop for sure. One huge difference between us mid-cappers and the low ones is that they get up and down much more frequently. Missed greens are almost like a penalty stroke for us because we can't recover.

Earlier, I remarked about my round where I shot back to back 41 with 2 doubles on each side today. Well, tonight, was men's club where the format was basically a skins game. So, on my 3rd nine for the day, I had yet again 2 double bogeys, but this time shot 4 over (39 on par 35 course). Our course has 27 holes and I played all 3 nines today and had 2 double bogies on each 9. I'm beginning to think I'm going to get a new nickname if I keep this up. On the plus side, I did have 2 birdies in the skins game, one of which I stroke on for a net deuce. Don't know if I won anything or not, but maybe.....

I started doing the protocols during last years testing and stopped due to pain in my fingers but the 2020 thread inspired me to get started again. The big question was where to start; I was through 19 weeks so my thought was to start protocol 3 over again but I would judge based on numbers from my first session. Having done most wanted driver testing, I knew my swing speed on GC Quad was generally in the 106-108 range when making a normal shot. Took a before number and swung at 108. Started the protocol and my initial numbers were just under where I stopped last year so I think I am starting at a good place. Very quickly my fingers starting hurting like they were last year. I thought that maybe I was holding the club to tight so I loosened my grip a little which helped with the pain but will be something I continue to monitor. Did a driver speed test after the session and recorded a top speed of 117. Thanks to all the people participating in the thread to help get me motivated to get started again!

Started off rough with back to back double bogies, but finished the front nine with a 41. I'll be darned if I didn't get another 2 doubles on the back nine and shot the same 41. 82 with 4 double bogies (one birdie).

Quick early 9 this morning: (7) FWY, (6) GIR, (3) Birdies. Under par but I’m still not keeping score. I probably made ~2K swings over the weekend trying to groove a takeaway/transition adjustment and my 40 yr old back was feeling it today.
  29. 12 points
It's a long story for another thread, but I now have a net to hit into. About an hour after I did the protocol today, while the charcoals were heating up, I decided to hit a few with the driver. I felt like I was taking a very slow, smooth swing. Backed it up with a slightly less efficient 102 swing, 248 carry. Obviously I have little idea about direction, but they were very solid contact.

Played RTJ Grand National Lakes Course today. 82 (44/38) 2 birdies/9 pars 9/14 FH and 9/18 GIR with 33 putts. Hole of the round: 500 yard par 5: solid drive slight downhill leaving me with 205 to the hole. I flushed my 5 iron to about 15 feet right on the fringe. Eagle putt hit the pin and rattled out leaving a tap in birdie. Chipping around the green was off today as I had 3 holes with 2 chips on it. Overall, happy with results, trying to stay consistently low/breaking 80 is the challenge.

Got out this afternoon for what I was hoping to be a turnaround 18. Opening hole was a triple bogey while hitting 4 different trees! My mind started to get in my way as I thought here we go again. Took 4 more holes before I finally found my iron swing again. Driver swing is still lost in no mans land somewhere. Something happened to my putter grip as all of a sudden it started twisting while I was putting. No clue what happened and I was planning on replacing it with a wrist lock one tomorrow anyways but it threw me off. I caught a couple slightly toe side and I could feel the head twist. Still managed a respectable 44/41. If I can get my driver and wedge swing back and can keep improving my putting, par for 9 holes is well within reach. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

Played 18 this morning and figured things out with the driver about 1/3 of the way through the round. And I absolutely started pounding the ball. Week 2 is a compete and rather than posting the same spreadsheet week to week I thought I'd mix things up. I really was hitting my 3 wood and hybrid well today and when I got home I took some swings on the launch monitor to confirm what I was seeing on the course. I play a 21* head, lofted down to 20* and 1/4 of an inch shorter than the standard 3 hybrid. Typical carry has always been about 225 to 230. Not anymore And my Ping G410 LST 3 Wood that carries about 244-248 off the deck?

74 (par 73) 10/14 fir 10/18 gir 32 putts. Kept the score reasonable with a decent short game. No idea how far my new irons go. 3 times I hit wrong club equaling 3 bogeys. 2 long and 1 short. It was blowing 15+ though. Pretty tough to play in with clubs 2 days old.

As well as I hit it yesterday was as bad as I hit it today. Drove it well and the rest of the bag was a steaming pile of [emoji90]. Chucked up an 80 and not sure how I broke 90. Back at it tomorrow with a new 3 wood in the bag and a 5 wood over the hybrid. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What app is this, 18 birdies? Today was one of those "what could have been" rounds for me. 42/38 = 80 9/14 FiR 12/18 GiR !!! 34 Putts I'm starting to find the center of my irons again after the sweet spot went on an 8-month vacation, and hitting them at a more negative AoA -- I'm taking divots again! I couldn't buy a putt today, but most of it was on me because I couldn't control distance for sh*t. Left the majority of them at least 3 feet short which was annoying, but it feels so good to hit greens again. Also made a triple on the 4th hole after hitting my drive OB left, and having to drop in an area that forced me to punch out. Also made a double on the back after another driver OB left. Full swing wedges were great, but the touch shots cost me 2 opportunities to get the ball really close for an easy bird.

Got out a few days ago at a nearby short 9-holer; tho did not score as well as last time there (when I made my PB to date on that course @ +4) I felt like I was hitting the ball much more solidly - especially off the tee. Short game, tho, wasn't quite as on-point as last outing as I missed a few chances to chip it close and get up and down, and missed a few chances at 1-putts. Had a few approaches were the right distance but landed right of intended target, so still have plenty of work to do on (..not only the swing but also) aim & alignment. Did have two bad tee shots, each on one of the doglegs - one was topped and one was popped up - and while each did manage to reach the fairway each led to doubles ... each second shot for position was good enough but then the first approach faded just wide right into deep rough, and second approach I left short-left in the bunker .. both times didn't put it close enough to sink the first putt. But my #1 tee shot was solid and ended up right-center which I followed with a bit thin but good-enough approach that caught the front edge of the elevated green and rolled towards the back .. 2 putt Par which may be the first time I've parred that opening hole. The second hole I thought I was on the way to another par but made bogey - hit another solid tee shot into the middle and had a good, if uneven, lie; while I was absent-mindedly swinging my club to get a feel for the slope and my balance I actually nicked the ball with the toe and sent it zinging off into the right rough .. D'OH!! So ended up with... 3 pars 4 bogeys 2 doubles no penalties, no 2-chips, no 3-putts .. for a +8 (Par 35) (or let's call it: "1-under bogey golf" )

Spent all of the morning replanting stuff around the house, along with other landscaping projects then went out and playing 18 with my wife. Damn she's really picked up her game - she ended up with a 99. In the past month she's dropped her handicap 4 1/2 strokes. I started out rough and my game didn't pickup til the end of the front 9 = 47. Some much for playing golf after a bunch of outdoor projects. I did better on the back - ending up with a 43. Darn so close to breaking 90 again. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy

Well... can’t say I played that well today. Was all over the face early in the round but started to settle in later. Short game and touch shots are still iffy right now. I would love for a range to be able to open up soon. On the plus side, I can cross on of my season goals off the list! Sure it was downhill, but I smashed it on the exact line I wanted to and ended up 309 in the fairway! Pay no attention to the rest of the hole. I already told you the short game was iffy. [emoji1787] The Evnroll was good again today, and these greens were still slow but not nearly as slow as last week so I’m getting more comfortable with the speed of it. No three putts, but I missed a few makable short ones to save par a couple times. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
