  1. I am rehabbing a left knee sprain and man , didn’t realize how important it was to have a strength in the lower body for swinging My last time out I was babying my knee and was all arm swing and did not use any “ ground force pressures” causing loss of distance One thing I remember doing was flaring out my feet and that really felt less pressure on my knees when I turned For some reason stopped doing that Maybe that’s why I put pressure on my knees ? will do that again as much as I can once I’m back full strength Also I have too much weight on my toes. Which is fine for putting chipping but it seems to limit my ability to pivot properly on my front foot when I swing
  2. Got a new set of iron Tour edge E with graphite shifts. Wanted to try it out on the course. Had hurt my left knee didnt play for couple of weeks Excited to get out as it was warmer today my swing was awful. Too much arms and not proper body rotation. I had six lost/OB and quit scoring after 7 holes after realizing I couldn’t put pressure on my knee just played out front 9 and time for rehab for another week. I’m going make sure my turning and extension strength on my knee is better before trying to play again
  3. Is that the idea for the claw? When I turn my trail arm to claw I don’t think I can pull the putt as much or at least takes one variable out for pulling. The trail hand turning over too much
  4. Weather warmer and will be playing more. Looking back past year my best driving range sessions were after I played. I seem to sort things at the driving range after However putting doesn’t seem to sort itself out after a bad playing day. I do notice that if I practice my 3-4-5 footers Prior to a round it does help my confidence.
  5. When I stick the butt end against my forearm it feels like anchoring to me , but I didnt make the rules The USGA definition of direct anchoring is The club is anchored “directly” when the player intentionally holds the club or a gripping hand in contact with any part of his body, except that the player may hold the club or a gripping hand against a hand or forearm so hands and forearms are exempt and not considered "anchoring" Armlock is just another technique that permissible Take advantage of the rules and try arm lock see if you can make more putts that way There another section for broomstick and side saddle putting that has a definition for " anchor point" that gets more complicated as well since the butt end is held by the gripping hand , and is not directly anchored but consider "anchoring " but way of " anchor point" the definition of the "anchor point" "Anchor point” exists when the player intentionally holds a forearm in contact with any part of his body to establish a gripping hand as a stable point around which the other hand may swing the club
  6. In professional teams sports there are meetings once a year to go over the rules and make changes so the game is more enjoyable and fair for everyone Don’t understand why golf is so slow to make changes.
  7. USGA and R&A made the ruling in 2019 about the use of long putters. You can beat dead horse with your argument but the debate is settled. Good luck in trying to ban the long putter (sarcasm)
  8. Ban is on anchoring. Ban is not on long putters Some people drive over the speed limit and some people drive safely under the legal speed limit Should we ban all fast cars that can potentially go past speed limit cause we can’t trust anyone behind a wheel of a fast car? No
  9. I like the thicker grips too when I started putting LHL. Took my hands out of the stroke and made me move my shoulders I went to the claw. I like the thicker grip but prefer taper thin where my trail hand holds the putter
  10. Watching some vintage footage of Seve Ballesteros and Isoa Aoki play golf. Both players angle the toe up of the ground when putting and sometimes with chipping. Both players put a pure roll on the ball on the green. Tried it and not my style. But for chip shots ball where the ball is severe above my feet and there is green to work with, this style seems to work well.
  11. When I try the broomstick.there is less chance for “hitting motion”. Forces me to set up to roll the ball. I have broomstick to practice with whenever the short one doesn’t behave
  12. Having a bad day on the green. Long putts were good distance control but lipping out and missing entire cup from 4 feet I got out the mirror My shoulders are open and my eye alignment is open to the target I practice cross handed strokes and that immediately got my shoulders and eye alignment more square.
  13. One of the swing habits that lead to my inconsistency is the feeling of rolling my rear hand/wrist through the hitting zone. Often when I turn the face to quickly I feel it’s left of left trying to use the bigger muscles and more my lead arm release the club I find that the face will be squarer to my swing path.
  14. Been using the PW around the greens more often The Lw or sW has useful for the high stopping lob type shots But feeling I don’t need to do that all the time With PW it’s more versatile can open or close the blade with roll out I think there a better chance to hole with PW. If I have at least 8-12 feet of flat green to roll out the cup, will consider this option.
  15. using a yardstick on the ground for putting alignment After a while I notice outside path to inside path developong and I was making a cut stroke replace the yardstick with a homemade Visio putting arc mat and trying to follow more arc path give me a better end over end roll on the ball Changing the practice drill to more arc pattern seems to automatically change my grip by extending my index finger and spreading it from my middle finger This slight grip change gives me a better feel for rolling the putts
  16. Agree that the one thing I find difficult with the broomstick was as it was not reliable from the fringe putting Also I had a hard time with long uphill putts with a broomstick ( I have a hard time with short stick for long uphill putts and left them short but seem to twice as worse leaving short with the broomstick )
  17. Agree that a standard putt stroke say for 5 feet and just making the same stroke and lengthening the stroke for longer putts would be easier way to play. I find that after a certain length say at 40or 50 feet I can’t lengthen the stroke any further, I have to apply more tapping energy to the ball for distance by using more hand and wrist
  18. 4 man best ball was a fun event. We had a fellow that was super putter Had a lot of short birdie putts from inside 15 feet that he looked automatic plus gave us good looks if he misses
  19. Was the neck design of the Scotties same your Envroll and Pings you tried ? I tend to close the face with plumbers neck compared to single bend /slant neck look with the same head design
  20. I haven’t use it on course. It fits my eye and rolls well at the store Just bought 2 days ago I currently use a midmallet When I was trying all sorts of putters the oversize mallet in same style hosel seems to give more confidence
  21. Comparing my play with the cc and scratch golfers at my club I think I know intuitively what I need to improve on. for me 1mental game ( management)most of the competitive players tend to have good course management Even if they get into trouble they stay cool ( manage themselves) and make the shot they know how to make and don’t make any more unnecessary high numbers on a hole 2 steady putting. Putting has been a Past weakness I been making a habit of holing out everything including 2 footers to increase confidence And practicing a lot of short putts inside 12 feet when not playing Trying to play for something. Small bet on the side will make me concentrate on a makable putt because often it comes down to a short putt to win the hole
  22. I tried for a year before the ban. agree with SNL assessment. One thing I notice is that I was more conscious of the stroke motored by rocking /turning my shoulder with long putter Short putter sometimes I would get too handsy/armsy and was not as consistent with distance control
  23. Watching putting tips from Seve Ballesteros on YouTube. And he makes putting very simple 5 footers. SBST. Eyes over the ball symmetrical backstroke and follow through 15 feet. More arc longer length stroke 30 feet use more wrist in the stroke, not one piece. Distance more important than line
  24. This thread is too deep for me. To keep it simple stupid I just keep the clubface relatively shut to my left arm grip ( I think that what called strong) and adjust my posture and ball position The face will square without much hand manipulation with my swing as long as I keep driving with my lower body Wedge shots from 60-90 yard range is when I purposely keep face open with my grip and not shut
  25. practice bunker shots. It’s hard to find a local practice facility that has Greenside bunker There is a video where this teaching pro suggest resting a ball on a folded up towel and hit the towel behind the ball and it should feel like a bunker shot if I wanted to practice bunker shot but there no sand Did not want to try that today. Did find local course that had bunkers and for short bunker shots I felt like I had to hit the sand twice as hard compared to if I had the same distance to hole when chipping of a clean lie To do this out of sand I was using more of my hips and body by squating down rather standing up and just use arms action which I normally do when chipping
