  1. I use a glove, in really cold weather or rain I use two gloves. Helps my grip and, perhaps more importantly, eliminates my finger prints at such time as my golf bag, along with scorecard, are designated as a crime scene...
  2. This weekend was a lot more interesting (and fun) than trying to decide if the leader is going to win by 4, 6, or 8 strokes on Sunday. And, for me at least, what I learned from watching Full Swing only added to watching them on course. Four interesting golfers, different games for each one, and not an obvious jerk in the mix. As a side note I found it interesting that Joel Dahmen, who I believe had about $57,000 in earnings thus far this year, finished high enough to take home just north of $600,000. Made me feel good for him and Geno as well.
  3. I'd be interested in how this worked out as well. I typically get offers from various lines not to play their clubs or to do so with generic head covers...
  4. Might want to take a look at the Cobra 3D putters as well. If you like the face technology of the SIK putters they have it as well.
  5. Let's use the Mezz, which I've fooled around with, as an example. There's a "line" formed between the black and white segments of the Presse grip as you grip it when addressing the putt. If you center that line over the leading edge of the putter face you'd be in pretty good alignment. Another way to look at it is this: if you hold the putter grip in a perpendicular orientation to the ground you'll have the intended "forward press" of the putter face. Simply "ignore" the putter head and take your stroke. Simple answer is that it's not a big deal to get used to using the Presse grip. Of course that's not applicable to your Lab Link.1, they don't recommend using the Presse grip on that model in their line.
  6. Depending on course conditions I have to admit that my choices come down to a 7 wood or a mortar if I'm on a more rural course and the detonation won't bother the neighbors...
  7. Cameron putters and I have no common ground, I can't get the feel for them. No idea why but I just don't mesh with 'em.
  8. Ken Venturi was also very adamant on this subject. His take on things, if I recall correctly, was to use a 7 iron and remember that every 12 inches of backswing correlated to ten yards of travel. So if you're ten yards off the green you'd use a stroke with a one foot backstroke. Twenty yards would be two feet, and thirty yards would be three feet. That of course is when you have a clear shot at the green. Given how club lofts have changed I use the same idea but substitute the 8 iron for the 7 iron.
  9. If it were me I'd be spending a decent amount of time at various courses/driving ranges in the area and chatting with the people who use those facilities to see what they use, what they'd like to see. Alternately, I'd be looking for social media groups that specialize in golf in the area and ask your questions there. I, for example, live in the midwestern part of the US. I have a pretty good idea of what's going on locally but haven't an accurate clue about what's going on in the Dubai market.
  10. Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery. Had to be scary as all get out.
  11. I've tried using Cameron putters a time or two over the years and found out that, at least the models I tried, just didn't work for me. My experience, and I've probably used over 50 putters in my 60+ years of golfing, puts Cameron putters in the bottom 25%. That's clearly just one person's experience and I know people who love 'em, but I don't even give them a second look when I check out putters these days.
  12. My first question, and I don't know the answer, would be what are the lofts of the two 7 irons in question? There's certainly more involved, offset, perhaps swing weight, etc. but loft is the easiest spec to compare as a starting point. Regardless, impressive results, congrats.
  13. I've found that whatever they're calling the face these days (used to be SIK technology) helps compensate for some user induced variability to keep the impact angle pretty constant. It's a well thought out design in my opinion.
  14. I pick tees that will allow me to enjoy the course. I often create a "hybrid" set of tees where I'll move between the white and yellow/gold tees depending on the hole. 200 yard par 3's don't exist for me, they're too long. 200 yard forced carries are a no as well, Tin Cup moments are for someone else. Difficult to say "how far is too far" but I definitely know it when I see it...
  15. I've noticed no different wear curve with these. As far as what the tour players are using I'm sure they get whatever works for them in terms of grip, how it gets installed, how many wraps and where they are placed, etc. A lot of them use cord grips either full or partial. Given how much they use their clubs it probably makes more sense to focus on what works for you.
  16. It is now easy for me to own up to the fact that I do NOT have more than this. I do have more than one. Whew, I feel better now.
  17. What is it about the driver that makes you believe the shaft needs to be changed? Your driver is likely pretty adjustable in terms of changing the loft up or down, flattening the lie, etc. If it were me I'd be adjusting it to each setting and making notes on how it performs as a logical first step. Beyond that there's a ton of questions that need answers before you proceed. You want distance? You want more fairways off the tee? You want a higher or lower flight? You get the idea.
  18. I'd be interested in where you read/saw this. Any links for those of us who are curious?
  19. Best guess from here on the sidelines is that it's going to come down to a)was there a patent infringed or b)what sort of agreement had the TM employee executed with TM during employment and how long had they been gone from TM or c)what the laws of are in the state in which the employee in question both had and now works in. Here in my state an employer, for lack of a more refined way of stating it, "cannot stop an employee from knowing what they know as long as what they 'know' is not clearly stated by the employer as proprietary or confidential." The winners are, no offense meant, typically the attorneys who get to litigate the fine points of these issues.
  20. Which, oddly but predictably, helped Costco sell a helluva lot more iron sets...
  21. I'm not as short as your wife but I swing slowly. Tried the first generation Cobra one length irons and they didn't do a darned thing for me. I abandoned them. Sold them actually, often I'll "retire" a set of irons with the thought that they may speak to me in the future. If it were me I might look at test driving something like the Cleveland Launcher XL Halo clubs.
  22. I've collected, for lack of a better term, a set of these, 8,9,P, G, SW in senior (F2) flex graphite shafts (last year's model, not the full face grooves of this year) as I've got the same issues with age and swing speed. IF the rain holds off tomorrow morning I might actually have a chance to get them on the course. I'm one who doesn't care a bit what anyone might think/say about what's in my bag, if it works it stays, if it doesn't it goes into the hall of fails. Most of what I've read/watched suggests they're pretty easy to hit, get good elevation and their biggest drawback is the "stigma" of appearance. Seems in the UK there's a company which I believe is called Eleven that offers a full set of hybrid irons which look as or more in this vein than the Cleveland Halos.
  23. I have and I like what I still think of as the SIK face.
  24. There's a golf show in town this weekend. Met up with a few guys and wandered around. Snagged a dozen Chromesoft X LS (yellow of course) for $39, a dozen Wilson Staff (yellow again) for $20 and after many years of thinking about it but not acting, a new pair of Ecco M Biom G5 shoes for $119. I'm happy all around.
  25. I wish you a full and speedy recovery. I'm a few years older and my left hip has been sending nasty signals the past few months so I can empathize with the pain and movement issues. All the best.
