  1. All you guys in the NE Region- This is gonna be one helluva event. 2-day Ryder cup style event pitting us against First Responders? Sign me up....TWICE! While the VGA still has open spots available and our squad has enough to compete if we ended at 16 players, the First Responder team is having a hard time filling their squad. I just spoke with the NY VGA director and he made it clear that this event is open to ALL first responders, not just NYPD/FDNY personnel. All that said- If you guys know of a First Responder willing to play, get this flyer over to them.

Cant speak to them in the universal language of a$$ whipping if they don't show up.....

  2. This is probably one of the very few "subjective" topics I've ever had the pleasure to read responses from. OP- Well done!

For me the answer comes from two questions I ask myself after a round, especially if it's a course I've never played, or don't play often.

    1. Did I walk away from that course knowing I'd score lower with another crack at it?
    2. Are there a few holes I want back?

Low hanging fruit example for me is Bethpage Black. I left the course from a VGA Tournament and rode home in complete silence running it all back through my mind knowing that if I just played the 2nd/5th/8th/16th/18th holes just a little differently, I could've carded a very impressive score that day. I feel the same way about Twisted Dune, Black Oak CC, Plainfield CC (all in NJ), and Shinnecock (NY). Now don't get me wrong, scenery, history, and quality of company are very important parts, but at the end of the day it all boils down to those two above questions for me. It's just the way I think about the game, I suppose. Things like that stick with me until I get back to the course and prove myself right, or wrong and I'm generally OK with either result if I'm able to put those two things to rest. Of course, there's also the smallest chance that I just get hit in the head a lot and I'm overthinking it, too, but I doubt it.

I mean, come on bro... I wouldn't class it as Predictable... But I reckon we can probably say the "tinkerer" label probably fits best... Or something like that. 🤣

    Yeah, I get that.....

    It's all good. But then...

At the beginning of this year I wasn't really looking for any new clubs. Lucked into deals for 8-9-PW when the Rogue ST irons went on sale with an additional military discount. Then I was just fooling around and took the Odyssey questionnaire on what putter I would play and ended up buying an Eleven.

Thank you to the Gods of my ancestors and the Putting Gods! That putter and the new clam shell grip I found online at the same time has cured my yips. Actually making some good putts.

    Maybe a GBB 19 5 hybrid?

If I'm not mistaken, our military discount also applied to their pre-owned site as well.

Unfortunately its more timing with my son and not so much work lol. If the event is close enough where I can get there after I drop him off it is not an issue but there were none last year close enough for me to get there in time.

From a guy with 6 (not a typo, 6) kids and three of those at home under 7 (nope, still not a typo), I can feel that pain more than most.

But there's another Spy here that as always has a way of twisting my arm and acting like a Narcotic pusher... I won't name any names, but you know who you are! 🤣 I HATE those kinds of guys. You know the types. Always got some really cool stuff to dangle in front of you knowing you're in club ho rehab. Those guys are the debbil.

I mean, I may know a guy that knows a guy to help with all those moving parts!!  Oh, wait a second...

In any event, yes we ALL do know you... You'll be shifting to something new REAL soon.

Am I THAT predictable, or do I just have a label now?

To your point, yeah. I left the Titleist line off of the list by mistake. I'm definitely interested in the T-150, or maybe a 150/200 combo. Of the list, the only clubs I've actually hit are the T200's, and as hard as I tried, I just couldn't find anything bad worth saying about them.

Love the thought process! Mondays get to be tough for me but hopefully can get a few penned in!

Normally, the exclusive private courses will only host events on Mondays, well.....at least around my area. Reasons vary, but most common is because that's the day the course is "closed for play", and/or that's the day of the week with the least amount of traffic. It's tough for most to make a Monday event, but for the right course, you'll see a full field more often than not. Plus, who the f**k wants to go to work on Mondays?

Anyone trying/planning any cross state line trips on the upcoming year?

I'm planning to play a little further out of my home area this season since I'm going to strictly play in VGA events and drop the other Tours I've been juggling for the last 3 seasons. I primarily play in New Jersey and a few in New York (you don't miss Bethpage with my proximity), but I would like to play a couple in other states in the North Regions this year. Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania are definitely on the wish list, but I also had an idea of playing in each one's State Championship depending on the dates. I could potentially pull that off if my schedule holds.

  9. Right now, the only clubs safe in the bag are the Betti, and the Para Super Hybrid pending 2024's new releases. The Para TD driver will be tough to kick as I've had the best statistical season with it, but you guys know me, no driver combo is ever safe in my bag. I am leaning more towards a new set of irons as I've played the Apex 21's since release and it's just time for a change. Right now, it's a serious inner battle between the ZX5 Mk II, Apex Pro, and the Mizuno JPX line. I'm most likely going to test all three head to head when I update my bag fitting this winter, but that's a more probable change than anything else besides the new Vokey SMX release.

What tee’s did you play? How often have you played there? It’s my dream course above ANY course I would love to play

This time I played from the Whites/Middle tee's, the tournament I played here back in May was from the yellow/forward tees. I've played here three times, but I've played the Red course too many times to count, mainly for tournaments. Would highly recommend it if you get even the slightest chance. And don't pass up the chance to play the Red course while you're here. It's just as much of a challenge, and equally worth it.

@Shank Aaron if my math is correct we had quite the battle that ended up being a push with us earning a half point each. The eagle on the final hole for you earned your point to tie the match. Neither getting more than 2 up at any point and a lot of back and forth with many of my birdies coming on holes where you had bogey.

So if that is the case great match and well done!

@GolfSpy_APH nope, we'll be A-OK with your math lolololol. I'm not sure how any of this is being scored and haven't had a clue since I got in on this. I've been playing like two different people. A) Help the team and do your part. B) Where's the 1st, what's the record, hold my beer. That said, no matter how this all goes, well played brogey.

Jokes aside, I'm thankful to @Tom the Golf Nut, @Golfspy_CG2, and @Golf2Much for inviting me to fill in and be a part of this. It's been a lot of fun and I appreciate you guys keeping me in mind.

Glad to hear it because I am just more interested in meeting other golfers to play with and play golf courses that A. never have a chance to play without forking over big money 2. play top tier golf courses for cheap.

I saw your FB post shared by VGA Central a little while back. You've had quite the season so far ! Bethpage Black is on my bucket list also.

It's been a great season in terms of company, courses played, and enjoyment with Bethpage Black being the obvious capstone. I didn't get to play half the events I was actually entered in. Apparently, life hasn't got the notice that this takes precedence.

  15. Welcome, bud. You're gonna love it here, they have t-shirts...

Jokes aside, skill level is completely irrelevant to the great times with great people I've experienced so far. At first, all I wanted to do was win. Now, it's so much more than petty things like that, unless you're one of those Space Force guys. Then forget this entire comment.
