  3. Pickle_Rick, not sure if you're still looking for clubs. I'm late to this post, I know, but I'll give you my input on a set of used RSi 1's. I found a set for about 1/3 of their current resale value due to some damage to 4-6 irons. As noted the Taylormade's which used face slot technology have issues with faces caving near the slots and sometimes the slot material falling out. This the case with the 4-6 in my set - there is some caving to the faces but slots are still in tact at this point, 4 is worst and 6 is very minimal. From my research this happened to almost all the generations they put out but there may also be some effect attributed to the player as some reviewers say they never had any issues. However, it seems it happened more often than not. I've had my set at the range multiple times and have played two rounds with them. I have not noticed any further damage to them to this point. Clubs are forgiving, balls feels good of the club, and I did gain about 10 yards per club compared to a 2006 set of Tommy Armours I had previously. I have not noticed any "mishitting" due to the damage. That is not to say they won't continue to get worse as they are played more. Because they were so discounted I grabbed them with the thinking that I'm getting new technology (they came out in 2015), I don't use a 4 iron that often, and at my skill level I don't know that I would significantly notice an effect due to the damage. I shoot in the 90's to mid-90's. Also, if I continue to get better where they are affecting my play I can upgrade to another set and feel that I have gotten more than my money's worth with the RSi's. That's my logic anyway. Could be flawed. So, if you did find a set of RSi's just keep in mind the faces will most likely start to cave on the irons that have face slot (down to 8 iron). If you find a set that is already damaged and are super discounted to a price you are comfortable with I would consider buying them with the understanding of what you are getting. Sorry again I'm late to the post and this may be no help.
  4. Thanks for the info guys. I will definitely look into those suggestions.
  5. Cleveland HiBore XL Tour 10.5, Tommy Armour 3W just broke on me, Tommy Armour 5W, Taylormade RSi 1 4-P & SW, Ping Anser putter. I had the same set of clubs for the past 10-15 years. I don't get out very often due to family, work and budget so typically don't fret too much about the inconsistency of my play. I'm typically in the 90 to mid-90 range. The set did just fine for that. However, I have to decided I'd like to get more serious about my game so have been reading a lot about clubs, technique, etc. I just recently bought the RSi set used to replace a 2006 model set of Tommy Armour irons 3-P. I need game improvement irons and found them for a very good deal so snatched them up. I now need a 3 wood and I'm looking to get a utility iron or a 3-hybrid. With those in my set I would eliminate the 5 wood as I rarely use it. I also want to pick up a gap wedge in the 50 to 52 deg. range. The SW is 55 deg. I'm not sure I would use a lob wedge much at this stage of my game. Any suggestions on clubs would be more than welcome. I'm on a pretty tight budget so mostly scouring the used club sections and I'm really open to any manufacturer. I hit the HiBore straight but not very long. Not sure newer technology would necessarily help there so maybe if it ain't broke don't fix it. 3W and hybrid/utility I'd like to get something made within the past 5 years or so. As for wedges I've been reading a lot about Vokey and Cleveland but as I said am open to mfr. Should I limit myself to a certain age of club for the wedge? Any feedback would be great. Thanks.
  6. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I started playing around 10 years old. I'm usually in the 90 to mid-90's range. What do you love about golf? I enjoy the competition and challenge along with uniqueness and beauty each course has to offer. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I typically only get out a couple times of year so typically don't take myself too seriously while playing. I've been wanting to get more serious, terrible timing now that I have 3 small children but here we are. I'm looking to upgrade my equipment so I've been doing a lot of research on clubs. Came across some reviews on the site and instagram. Looking to keep the research going and keep my golf knowledge growing. I do not know any spies. Where are you from? What is your home course? St. Louis. Creve Coeur Golf Course is where I've played most. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? I think we have a lot of courses to choose from based on skill level and/or price range which is great. I would say weather is the worst thing with very hot and humid summers and cold winters. What do you do for a living? I design air conditioning and heating systems for commercial buildings - schools, hospitals, office buildings, etc. How’d you pick your user name? My initials. Yes, very creative.
