  1. TourStriker Smart Ball which I have barely used cuz I’m recovering from ankle surgery … looking forward to it tho. Replaced my Titleist TSi driver with a TSr but don’t see a big diff in performance. And I swapped a PM grind 60* Callaway wedge for a Vokey 54* which feels like a heavier head … so I still hit it high but I can hit lower shots with it as well. …. Forgot to add Kirkland golf balls. Seemed fine for my game. But still use AVX for tournaments.
  2. I had been unable to play for over a decade, and was searching for club reviews to replace my outdated clubs. MGS popped up & I’ve been here ever since.
  3. Absolutely like hybrids over 2, 3, & 4 irons BUT then my swing speed is only 100. All the retired guys at my club play hybrids over the longer irons. That said, I’m wanting to try 5 & 7 fairway woods. … Is the 80 handicap u posted correct, cuz we could use u in a tournament on par 3’s.
  4. I’m an old timer, and back in my day sets of irons were 2-PW … a set had to be special ordered to get matching 1 iron & SW, which few people did. So u’d buy a PING 1-iron and a Cleveland SW. BUT then the L-wedge showed up, and then the A … so when asked, u always said ur irons were from a manufacturer like Wilson Staff or Titleist, and ur wedges were specialty clubs. That’s why I differentiate them that way. I’m Just old & set in my ways I guess.
  5. Cobra OL 5-PW-GW-SW, Vokey 56* & Callaway 58* … and I just ordered Kirkland wedges, so hope to have a better spread in my wedge arsenal.
  6. Thx all. I greatly appreciate it. Ankle surgery Tue & then 6 weeks recovery, in time to start getting ready for next season!
  7. I did an Official L.A.B. DF 2.1 review last year, and I got mine built with the BGT Stability Tour Fire shaft. I know it’s not the same shaft as you are contemplating, but I wanted to tell you how much more satisfied I am with a better shaft. Not only do I love the feel, but everyone who has tried it immediately comments on the softness of the feel … and I think the shaft has a lot to do with it. I know it’s all about personal connection to a putter, so anything I like, others may not. But, I will say that I occasionally take out my steel shafted, TaylorMade Spider and I putt just as well with it on the practice green. But every time I set my DF2.1 in front of a putt that matters, I have a greater feeling of confidence. It is massive. But I do not care. I love this shaft and putter combo.
  8. We spent 5 min looking for a guy’s $15 plastic golf tee. I’ve searched diligently for thousands of balls, but never a tee. I empathized with his plight … but $15 for a tee? The tee box was elevated, and his tee flew off the front. And I won’t let him forget about it. Whenever I play with him, or even when he’s paired with others, I ALWAYS warn them to watch his tee, not his ball.
  9. Swing like you’re throwing the club … like a helicopter. Helped my release.
  10. NOT FAIR? Slightly different take on which tees to play: AGE v ABILITY We had an extremely animated discussion on this very topic after our men’s league last week … our course has black, blue, blue/white hybrids, white, red, & gold tees. Our discussion that night debated blue v hybrid v white … blue=69.2/126/6000yds. Hybrids=67.1/118/5539yds. And white=66.3/116/5324yds. The white tees are for 60+, but hybrid can be played by anyone, which means that on some holes ur hitting from blues & some from white. So for example: the complaint from guys playing blues, is that the #2 par five hole, plays like a par 4 form the white tees, and often that is where the hybrid tee is located. Guys playing blues can reach #2 hitting driver/3 wood and I can reach it hitting driver/4 hyb. Another ex: on #7, the blue tees hit driver / 6 iron while white tees can be hitting driver / gap. So I’m 65 and very often hear complaints that the white tees are too easy for me. That’s what the hybrids were supposed to fix. The problem for me is that there are 3-4 holes that are too long for me from blues … I can’t hit it as far as the younger guys. Our conversation went round in circles with no definite answer (typical, right?) because it boils down to the course is rated from certain tee locations and therefore tee box boundaries are pretty much set in stone. So if I play hybrids, I get 1 more stroke, but the added distance on those few holes adds 2-3 strokes to my game. It’s not worth it to me. Ya know, I’d love to be alive in 20 yrs to hear their opinion when they hit their 60s.
  11. I think abt getting a walking bag for off season. Back of the course is really too hilly to walk when playing in a group. I’m currently using Titleist cart bag.
  12. My Link fell off my belt twice … luckily got it back both times. So I fashioned a loop from an electrical tie so I now thread my belt thru it … slides on & off easily. The clip on does not work with fatter braided belts. Back to the drawing board people.
  13. I HAVE A DRAWER FULL OF DEAD SENSORS. The screw in sensors only lasted abt 12-18 mos. I got a set of irons with sensors in the grips and haven’t had one go bad yet. Their tech support suggested removing the screw on sensors at the range, which I did. Still, I think I have 8 out of 13 dead sensors. So not really a good purchase from an equipment point of view First year I tried using my iPhone in front pocket, to pick up shots, but it constantly dropped them. And on top of that, our course map from Google was so old gps did not match, so I could be on the green but it registered as off …. Or tee locations were wrong. For that reason I never used pin location on putting. I complained to the caddie master & they said they couldn’t do anything till Google did, and gave me 6 mos free service. HOWEVER, I switched to the Arccos Link on my belt and have never had a dropped shot. I bought the Link to help review a LAB putter for MGS, and without pin placement it still tracked number of putts and approx length. I’m the only one at my club to own it, and I bet it’s nice if someone who has it, has already marked the pins before you. STILL … I’m questioning renewing.
  14. Date 05/24/2023 Course Name Marietta Country Club Gross Score 83 Course Handicap 17 Gross Strokes over/under par 13 Net Score to Par -4 Net Score 66 Net Birdies or better 10 Longest Drive 256 Fantastic round except for 2-6s & 2-7s. 3 legit birdies. 5 skins. Handicap is high cuz horrible putting … 3 putted everything. Today, sank 5 1-putts.
  15. I forgot that one! Yes. Definitely. Trying to draw around a dogleg and seeing it work. Nice.
  16. In replying to a question about the wedges we carry … it occurred to me that my favorite club is my 56* because I get the most satisfaction from successfully executing the creativity it is capable of. The vast majority of our greens are sloped with inclines on the high side of the green … plus various bunkers bookending them. So once or twice a round I need to chip down to a green sloping away or at least a short sided pin … and it’s executing those shots that really makes me smile. What are your most rewarding golf shots (successfully executing): 1) Very difficult chip shots. 2) Difficult recovery shots. 3) Nutting my driver. 4) One putting from 15+ feet. 5) GIR at the furthest distance I can reach … i.e.: my 3 wood is 210 … “can I get there from here?” 6) any 2-3 inch tap-in from an approach shot 7) GIR … “I’m putting” Any Shot on a beautiful day instead on being home mowing the lawn I often think a Recovery Shot Tournament would be a lot of fun.
  17. One length Cobra set with PW, GW, & SW … there is a massive distance gap between my GW & SW that causes me to have to finesse a GW instead of hitting a full SW that won’t get there. Some days it seems I hit in the middle of that gap several times a round. Then I have my favorite … 56* Callaway Apex PM grind and a matching 60* I flop over crap or on short side shots. We have several elevations next to greens that can create situation of chipping down to a green slopping away.
  18. It’s not the rare one. Got it in 80s. Just a reg Anser with the sound slot. At the time I thought it was the greatest putter ever … but you can’t go back to ur youth. Don’t kno why I ever liked it. Maybe balata ball made a diff to me.
  19. Just need to get the bones moving. Tho I used to really practice before a big round … 30 min range & 30 min putt/chip … NOW I see the futility in it & I simply hit 3 drives, 3-6 irons, 5 min chip & 5 min putt and there’s no diff in my game.
  20. Dan Grieve is great for short game & bunkers … 2 swings … high soft landing & runner from grass or sand.
  21. A 90yr old at the club practically 1-putts everything using a Bullseye he’s played since the 1960s. I think he said he paid $25 for it. Just laughs at our new putters & their prices.
  22. I gotta say, while I’m not a high level competitor, I play 3 tough skins games a week, & putter confidence is big in my putting success. I honestly doubt there is more than a stroke difference in my putting between my 40yr old wood mallet with a standard steel shaft, my SpiderX with stock shaft, & my LAB with a $250 BGT Stability Tour … BUT I will always feel like I do better with the LAB, and the shaft is a big part of that preconception. Oftentimes, you convince yourself that your prejudices are correct, irregardless of the facts. And that breeds confidence, Billy Baroo … “Oh, Billy, Billy, Billy!”
