  1. I’ve tried spineless in the past but my foot had a tendency to slip every now and then. I don’t have have slipping issues with spikes. Also the hyperflex boas are as comfortable as any spineless I’ve ever worn. My course is pretty wet at my 2nd tee time off in the morning so I choose spikes 100% and rotate different pairs if I play consecutive days.

Most of my life, I was at best an average putter. My dominant miss was a pull. I tried various putters and different grips, but nothing really worked. I settled on face balanced mallets with huge grips and a modified claw as my (relatively) best combo. The bigger the grip, the better, but I still wasn't very good.

About 2 years ago, I was given a scotty Cameron blade with moderate toe hang and the normal scotty pistol grip. From the moment I got it, I could just take the same grip I use on my other clubs, take a natural stroke, and the ball is on line virtually every time. I'm now the best putter in virtually every group I'm with.

I have no moral of the story, just a wonder. While I believe that big grips can help mask other issues, is it possible that there's that one perfect putter out there for each player that would just allow them to point and shoot if they could somehow just find it? Can a fitting help with it, or does it have to just be dumb luck trial and error? My savior was a putter exactly the opposite of what had worked best for me in the past. Could it be that you are on exactly the wrong track also?

That is a great point, sometimes there is one putter that doesn’t make sense but just works. I think grips can be adjusted to. I think my natural stroke is not lead hand low but I am more consistent getting ball on line with that grip and my roll is more true so I stick with it. If I used my natural grip, I would need a pistol style like pingman midsize or golf pride pro only red star.

  3. When I putt lead hand low I prefer a thicker grip like a Superstroke flatso 1.0. But when I have putted with a traditional grip something lime a traditional pistol shape or golf pride pro only red star has had better success than a Superstroke.

Well, I have played these hybrids on and off for the last few years.  I am a V Steel guy all the way and willing to give newer technology a try…at some point.  I realize the F7 line is five years old but baby steps.  😀

If they work I’d definitely stick to it. Plus sometimes newer doesn’t always equal better scores. If you’re comfortable  and know you can hit your shots that is all that matters.

Oooh top dollar stuff, you know shirts go for about $5 at thrift 😃

I am a total discount golfer, if I can get a discount then I figure that is closer to the real cost of the golf round, club, bag, cart, whatever.  I will pay asking price when necessary and support a tournament and pay full price when it makes sense.  I have always been amazed by people who buy at premium cost because they believe higher price means getting maximum value.  On a completely separate note, I have some new tees for only $10 a piece... (joking and not a solicitation) 😇

Looks like I need to go thrift shopping 🙂

  6. I agree with the cost of swag. I love getting stuff from courses I play at but I agree not a huge fan of paying 30 for a hat or 100 for a polo from top courses when I can get a new polo for 30 from TJ Maxx or find hats much cheaper. I am a sweater so hats don’t last too long in the summer months so that 30 is more painful when I burn through them haha.

after making that last post, i bit the bullet and paid the down payment for the custom putter. going to do the virtual fitting option. part of my inspiration for this was that my dad played a Ping putter. he passed away when i was young and i never had a chance to play golf with him.

Keep us posted on the progress of the fitting and pictures of the end beauty.

Thanks to @jlukes for getting this thread up for me.   I was to busy ordering a PLD Tyne!!   You think I’m kidding?  The only thing thst took me so long in doing that was keeping my self from booking a flight to PHX for a PLD Custom Tour Fitting 😍

I love my PLD Tyne. Mine is the smooth face one but it has such great audio feedback and rolls it very smooth and true.

So 3 MPH gain in ball speed, and 11 yards of carry increase.  This is a PGA Pro who was playing about as custom fit driver as you can ask for previousy and he saw those gains.  So much for the crowd that if you are playing a current model driver that is custom fit, you can't find any more speed or distance with a new driver.   I'd say Scheffler has several million reasons to say that's not true..ha

That’s a great perspective and just goes to show you how important it is to get refit and try some of the newer stuff.

    Any tangible results yet?

Definitely. I should have reported back earlier. I was playing it at first with a tensei pro white 70tx until my AXS blue had the tip changed. My dispersion has shrunk since I started using it and I am placing myself in a lot of great places to score. If only my short game was on. Either way, once I put the AXS blue back in, holy cow the driver came alive. This past weekend I had multiple drives over 320 with hitting 12/14 fairways. The ones I missed, I still had serviceable shots just more of a me issue than the club. All my playing partners tell me don’t take that out of the bag and they have seen me play a lot of different drivers haha. They see what I’m seeing is my misses are better and I’m giving myself the ability to score when the rest of my game is working.

  11. Down 31 this year from January. Walking multiple rounds a week definitely helps and weight watchers has helped me keep things in moderation. I love that I can still have pizza or whatever I feel but have to have in moderation. About 25 more from goal but I am only 8 pounds from where I was when I got married and 25 from my college baseball days

I've got a Garmin G10 but have been after a watch for a while to use whilst mountain biking, running etc as I'm trying to get a bit fitter.

Came across a Garmin Fënix 6X Pro at a silly price so ordered it. It works with golf too so guess it counts. It's a bit of a beast and does loads more than I need but was too good to pass up.pro-solar_9-9efdb7ab-e7e4-4d38-aa2d-3219076e3b64-297e1b68-6954-4246-a8b2-7cdaa29d7e33.png.eee21bc873970814a67a52366783efc2.png

I have the same watch. I love it. Great for any other activities outside of golf

  13. Agree with the above sentiment. It has the potential to help with swing speed but you don’t know until you try it for your swing. I love a heavy feeling rebar like Tensei pro white 70tx but on my not best days it takes a lot to get the most out of the shaft. The AXS blue 6x is definitely lighter, I wouldn’t say I swing it faster but I can put a more effortless swing and get very similar distances and playability on the course. I think it benefits me most on the last few driving holes of my course which require three good drives to get in scoring position.

like the above poster said, some 55x might be softer to flex than a 6s. Depends on type of shaft and the profile to whether or not it will ultimately help.
