  1. I'm wanting a single length driving iron to use as a get out of jail club. High wind off the tee / out off the rough under some trees / narrow fairway second shot on par 5 / long bump and run shots... Currently deciding between the latest cobra or previous utility iron in 21-24*
  2. Fellow UK dweller here. This is my favorite face milling but rather than have the circle starting in the center, could you have it starting at the bottom like yes! putters used to do. Was meant to help promote better roll on off center hits. Love the mallet design, the only issue for me would be that the location you have the hole for the shaft would cause a lot of toe hang. Prefer little to no toe hang for my straight back and through stroke. As someone else suggested, a curved face would also be cool like with the SIK putters so if you hit it lower or higher on the face you sill get a similar roll. It would be like the greatest hits putter design!
  3. I'm looking for an easy to use low flying driving iron and thought the one length version of the Cobra utility would be ideal for my intended use. I want an easy to control low flying option off the tee or out of the rough to get under the wind or trees or for when I have no hazards to worry about and want to hit an easy to control, rolling shot. I have all my distance gaps already in my set but have an extra space and I thought this would be the most likely to save me a stroke or two. Originally I was looking at the one length hybrid options but that didn't give me much variety compared to what's in my existing bag which is why i have switched my sights to the lower flying utility iron. I like that I can tweak the loft depending on conditions (extra carry vs extra roll for wet or dry, or windy conditions). Does anyone have any references to comparisons between the new and old version? I can find plenty of reviews on both but am struggling to find anything that compares the two. The older one is half the price and although they look quite different, if the performance is similar that is the one I'd go for. If the new one has significant performance or forgiveness improvements then I'd pay the extra... I cant try anything in person while the UK is lockdown but I was hoping to have my bag ready for when we start to open up again.
  4. I have done that but I don't like the flatter lie that playing with a shortened shaft results in which is why I wanted a club that's 41.5 stock length
  5. I had the 14* mini Bertha for a while but i figured if im only using it from the tee why not go for the biggest most forgiving head possible
  6. I'm thinking of getting an old f6 baffler to replace my current 5 wood also
  7. One of my friends recently bought a PXG gen2 driver in discounted sell off, so, intrigued I spec'd out a club online and sent them an email to ask what they'd recommend based on my existing set up and swing speed / distance numbers etc. Few hours later I received a call, a "virtual fitting" and now have the following on the way to me. 0811 XF Gen2 9* Evenflow Riptide 6.0 60 (0.5" short) golf pride +4 grip Hotmelt to bring back to swing weight In person fitting once we are out of lockdown incase I need a different shaft etc. One happy camper here! Got it delivered to my brothers so the Mrs doesn't find out
  8. I just got a stroke lab double wide arm lock. Unfortunately i need to get it bent upright as its about 4* too flat and im pushing everything right with it. Love the feel and the set up, but cant put with it until i get the lie fixed. While in lockdown this isn't possible
  9. This is it. I look at my 11 clubs and I think I'm covered for carry distances from about 80 to about 220-230 and can hold greens from about 190 in (hybrids down). I swing around 90mph but strike consistency in the longer clubs need improving. What could i add to this that would help me score better? I came up with answers of the safety driver, a one length 4 hybrid (I think its like a long distance chipper), and then the chipper. If there are no hazards I need to carry, then the latter 2 should inspire a lot of confidence to hit a straight shot with roll out to make the green, especially if I'm having a bad day. And on the open courses i play there is a big advantage to having a low flying ball flight in the high winds, I could adjust the 2nd driver and hybrid loft up or down to suit the conditions prior to the round.
  10. Is there a more modern f6 baffler type club around other than the Callaway super hybrid (which isn't available in the UK)? Through trial an error I've figured that the perfect 5 wood length for me is between 41.5" and 42". However I also like a slightly upright lie. As such, when I shorten a normal fairway wood, not only do i have to mess about with rubber tungsten tip weights and lead tape to get the swing weight, I also have a flatter lie than I'd like. I have the f6 baffler on my shortlist, and that's about all I can see in the shorter fairway category in the UK. With shipping and import tax, the Super Hybrid is out of my budget (I'm always looking to max my value for money, or recoup my spend if i don't get on with a new (to me) club...). I could go with a hybrid, but i like the confidence of a bigger head in clubs over 40".
  11. In terms of the second driver, I'm thinking of cutting my Nike Vapor Flex 440 down to 43-43.5 (via tipping to preserve the flex after adding weight to the head) and playing it at 12.5. Or buying a second hand 13.5 Callaway XR16 or speed and putting a 3wood shaft in it, then adding lead tape or a heavier weight in the port for swing weight. My gamer was a rogue, but i put a dent in the face through a period of bad heel mishits when i was really attacking the ball long drive style at the driving range, so i have reverted back to my trusty big bertha fusion (and a more manageable swing). [edit] I use to have a Big Bertha Mini 1.5 but got rid when I was doing my club cull and cutting my clubs down. It wasn't as forgiving as a driver and wasn't the easiest off the deck, so if I'm going for a second tee only club then its a case of go big or go home! haha
  12. Saw an advert for the Walker on instagram yesterday. They must know! I think once shipping to the UK is factored in I think it will become quite expensive. It is a nice looking bit of kit though
  13. I had one of those as well. I found it too bulky though and ended up swapping it out for a CBX 56* wedge which I had bent to 57*. Use that or my eye 2 BeCu SW depending on conditions / how I'm feeling. I'll do a WITB for my "full" bag one of these days when the Mrs is out and wont hassle me about having my "dirty" clubs out indoors (I wipe them after every shot and clean after every few rounds, she is just a clean freak).
  14. This was my thinking. I have 2 bags. One is my carry only 9 club bag for practice / fun. Then i have my 11 club push cart gamer bag, which i have whittled down to by 11 essentials. (driver, 5wd, 2 hybrids, 4 irons, 2 wedges). I dropped the 3 wood as it was tee only and i found i didn't gain much in terms of scoring, but a massive 3 wood would be a huge confidence booster off the tee and allow me to set up my other driver for max distance rather than a blend of distance / control
  15. My standard set up with around 14 yard gapping between my clubs has 11 clubs including my putter. Boredom through lockdown has me considering some additional clubs for my bag to fill those final 3 slots and I wondered if anyone else with less than 14 clubs in their bag used the extra slots for something specific as well... I have a smart sole C chipper that use when I haven't played for months and want something easy around the greens. The mocking i get from my friends doesn't bother me as I always end up close to the pin with that thing. Then, once i have my groove back, I'll use my 9 iron - wedges around the green. I'm considering a shorter, higher lofted Driver for narrow fairways / when I have a hazard i really need to make sure I carry / or I'm just having an off day from the tee. I'm also considering a one length 4 hybrid. Thought it might be good on windy days, fairway bunkers, rough, shots where I'm worried about holding my landing spot and am happy for the ball to run out, Punch shots under trees etc. also. I've not tried one yet, but I'm sure it would be easy to control / fun to mess about with... My understanding is it is designed with a lower spin to achieve the same total distance through roll as its regular length equivalent. Do any of you carry a club that's not in there for the distance gap but to serve a specific purpose / scenario / just for fun?
  16. Thanks all. Will be a few months until the golf clubs are open again here in the UK so no need for an immediate purchase. Will keep an eye out for any deals and report back once I have bought and tested my cart.
  17. Hi all, in the market for a new push cart. Got convinced that I should carry by some of my playing buddies and ended up getting rid of my old Stewart Golf one. It was a good trolley, solid and stable but it was pretty bulky. I find the last 3-6 holes a real chore for 18 holes when carrying a full set so want to push again I'm not playing my half set. I work at a desk all day and am prone to lower back pain if I'm not monitoring my posture. I try to bring as little as possible in my rounds so want something light weight and something that is not too intrusive when stored away. I went from one extreme of having everything golf related known to man when i first started, to going full minimalist, 6 clubs and a Sunday bag for a brief spell, and am ready for a happy medium state. The most compact / light I have found is the Big Max Blade IP, but I wondered if anyone had any other recommendation before I bite the bullet and lay £260 down on it...
  18. I carry 9 clubs 7 degree loft gaps in the irons (a few are bent) and wedges and 6 in the woods
