  1. Recently rekindled my passion for golf at the end of last summer. Have seriously got the itch to play constantly. I always played driver and long irons, but as my game improved I have been adding more fairway woods to bag. Were before my ego would cause me to think that hitting a long iron 220 or 230 was more pure then hitting a FW wood. Now I am just trying to take path of least resistance to hole. I just received the Mavrik 9w I ordered to replace the 5i. I had to buy women's club as could not find a men's version of the mavrik 9w. I already ordered the matching aldila Rouge white 70s shaft I play in all my woods. So right now I have following clubs in bag. Driver Mavrik sub zero 9 set at 11 with draw bias Mavrik fairway woods 3,5,7,9 Mizuno jpx-921 forged irons 6-gw with KBS Tour 90 black shafts. Mizuno es21 56/10 sw and 60/10 lw. Clubs look great, but all those damn head covers clutter up my bag. Tempted to take them all off while playing and just leaving them in truck. Have not hit 9w yet as the shaft is not in yet but I am pretty sure my gapping will be as follows. Driver 265 3w 230 5w 220 7w 200 9w 180. 6i 170 7i 160 8i 150 9i 140 PW 130 GW 120 SW 100 LW 80 I really prefer the ball flight of FW over long irons. The mavriks when hit clean sound really crisp and powerful, ball tends to have nice flat rising trajectory, to a peak height then come down softly. I am working to hit a draw or fade when needed and have had some really nice success, and if I want I can keep them low and hot I can. When my driver and FW swing is on, I rarely hit any irons except 8-sw. Most par five I can reach in two with driver, 3 5 or 7 w. Par 4s are driver, 8, 9 or wedge unless I miss hit something. The main reason I bought 9w is for long par 3's. My bigest need for improvement from strokes gained perspective is missing approach shots. Distance is usually close, but missing left or right of green is costing me, second would be putting, I am sometimes pretty good and other times I cannot sink anythng outside 4'. One of the most frustrating thing I am doing lately. Is pulling irons to left or snap hooking drive or FW. I was a notorious long ball slicer for longer than I care to admit. And I can still on occasion slice a drive into next county, but generally I have eliminated slice as a big problem, I can live with the iron pull, mostly ends up pin high and playable, but that snap hook off tee is brutal. I am good for at least 1 per round and have not been able to feel what I am doing to get there. In theory I know I am probable swinging out to in with severly closed face.... But I cannot feel it Sorry for Rambling.
  2. So this winter I thought my bag was all set for spring, but I really have a problem. I will not relate all the bag changes I have made to date, but simply detail what's in my bag now. Putter oddesy triple track #7. Irons: 6-gw Mizuno jpx 921 forged with amt tour white s300 shafts and lamkin sonar mid size wraps. ( I also have a set of amt tour white x100 that I just pulled to try the s300) Wedges Mizuno Es21 56/10 Mizuno ES21 60/10 Driver. Callaway Mavrik sub zero, aldila rogue white 70x lamkin sonar mid size wrap. Fairway woods. Mavrik sub zero 3 w. Mavrik 5w Mavrik 7w Mavrik 9w All with aldila rogue white 70s shafts, lamkin sonar mid size grips. Done with changes for today, lol. Also just picked up a mizu o st200 driver to try out.

  4. I sold a beautiful set of mp25's that I chrome stripped and I polished to a beautiful satin nickel finish. I I also picked up a set of mx23 forged cavity backs, and my 10vyear old son and I just scotch brite polished with some oil, and did fresh paint fill and sold them with original shafts and grips. I have a set of mp 30 chrome stripped, with RP 6.0 rifle shafts that are also sanded down to a satin finish going to sell in 12 hours. I also have sales pending on two sets of mizuno altron irons, which is the se and the fwd, and a nice old but clean set of Wilson Staff Ultra 45 irons with the firestick 3.5 shafts. I just picked up a complete set of msx, 3_pw,sw, 1 w, 3w,5w, all matching mizuno gold graphite shafts, woods are freaking tiny. I also have two sets of mx-23, a set of mx-25, a ping eye 2 set coming in this week to be refinished and sold. I also have a set of mp20hmb and a set of jpx919 forged coming in about 3 weeks, I will be playing the jpx 919 forged with either project x steel 6.0 on them or will swap my amt tour white x100's. Actually probable just going to use the amts as they already have three wraps of tape and my favorite grip on them. The project x will go into the jpx 919 hm pro set I am currently gaming then up for sale. I M intrigued by the mp20 hmb (hot metal blades) they are forged but hollow,in long irons and these are brand new so I doubt I will hit them....
  5. I bought a set of Calloway neoprene covers, and I thought they looked great, but I found it to stressful worrying about losing them. My solutions was to get a founders club cart bag with the 14 molded dividers. Works great, every club has a spot so it's really easy to find correct club and I never have to wonder if all clubs are there. I picked up an older used model bag for $70. The newer ones have a better top layout, but I like the one I have. I love the look of mizuno forged irons, but I especially the muscle back blades. I will buy and sell a couple sets a week. Sometimes I strip the chrome, but I most times I just use a wire wheel to take shine off, and I the only way I hand rub them with oil and fine scotch brite, I find it very therapeutic to hold those little prices of forged steel in my hands an bringing out the natural beauty of the metal. I polish the faces to re. I've brown spots and use brasso to polish them up, it's purely cosmetic as the chrome is gone. To me, it is that spot tells me someone played them well or at least struck sweet spot consistently. On my players the wear mark is like a battle scar, I am proud of it.
  6. I picked up an old set of Wilson Staff Ultra 45 irons with firestick 3.5 steel shafts. Circa 1996. These things are in need of some tlc, so I'd like to remove heads. They are also long as hell, like plus 2". I tried heating up hosel and working head off to no avail. Not sure what's the deal, but I I have removed tons of irons but these things feel like I am going break shaft trying to get them off. I what's the trick.
  7. I am such a club ho, that I. Am already looking for the jpx-921 forged. I have also have a complete set of the MP-25's that sale expires in a couple hours. I will if they do not sell I am going to play a round or two with them.
  8. Yes thanks. I started putting these iron sets together. Jpx919 forged with tt tour concept s300, sold on eBay, and auction items ends in a few days. I will put the amt tour white on hot metal pro heads when they come in. As I was building these clubs last night I realized by sw and lw both still have the tour concepts x1 on them. I am fine with leaving as is, but I but I do prefer to keep. All shafts same so I am looking for some amt white wedge shafts. I will ot so easy to find. I am really looking forward to hitting hot metal pro's.

  10. I am torn, I really like the amt tour white. But I also have a set of the TT new concept tour s300 shafts coming in for a set i am building. I really lived that shaft in my jpx 919 hot metals, but I did hit them a little high. Not sure if that was shaft m, head or combo of two. I will probable swap the shafts. Setup the new hot metal pro's i am getting qith the amt tour whites, then put the jpx-919 forged on the tt new concepts, and see how I like them.been playing the forged with the amt tour white for about last 4 rounds and really like them. Not sure why I feel compelled to try the hot metal pros. Its a good thing I do not mind taking these clubs apart and putting them back together. My gut tells me I will keep the hot metal pros with the amt shafts. And sell the forged with the tour concept shafts.
  11. I was playing th tt new concept tour x! Shafts for a few months and really liked them. Now I am playing the tour white amt. I really like the shafts. I picked up my friends wedge for him and it felt so light. Its then I realized how much I like the heavier shafts on the scoring irons. Tgese shafts are low launch low spin, very stable and my accuracy is better as well as distance and trajectory control. I just feel like I ca. Control shot much better with these tour white amt's
  12. I buy and sell and constantly rotate equipment in and out of my bag. I think the lines between players clubs and super game improvement are getting more blurred by mfgs making so many variations of same clubs. For instance. Mizuno jpx-919 Tour is a a forged iron, minimal offset small head, designed for tour players. Forged, slightly larger head, a little more offset designed for low handicappers with pretty consistent ball striking. Still very workable club for both distance and shot shaping. (I play these irons) Hot metal pro, now this is interesting. It is a cast head with all the tech of the hot metals gi irons, but head similar to forged and offset of tour. So these are supposed to be just as forgiving as hot metals, but with smaller head and less offset will they be workable? I will find out soon enough, as I just picked up a set to test. After reading through these posts, I find one theme that I am not necessarily buying. I do not believe the hotter face of gi irons are the reason behind the rocket shot that blasts 20-30 yards long, but rather a poor strike, yes you crushed it. But you did not hit it where you want it, you did not hit it correctly. I think the reason better players do kot.play gi irons is because they are more dificult to shape your shot. The larger head, with more offset and chunkier soles make it more difficult to shape the shot the way you can with a forged iron. So I play the jpx-919 forged. They are significantly smaller and have smaller sole and offset then the gi irons. I hit my 7i just about 165, with forged and 170 with hotmetals. I was playing a 160 yard up hill approach the other day, it was cold and I was tired. My approach was supposed to be a mid High fade to front of green. Well I absolutely crushed it, I hit what looked like a pure golf shot, nice and high, too high to be honest right over pin, over green, over tee box behind. I hit the damn thing almost 200 yards. So it was not a hot face or a club issue it was a swing issues. With a good swing I can hit it high , low, long or short, I can hit a fade and a draw. I can hit a line drive, or u can hit a balloon. I can still do those things qith a gi iron, just not as reliable. So
  13. I am running into a little conundrum. When I am hitting my driver well, which I have been last 3 rounds, I tend to snap hook my 3w. If I am hitting 3w off tee well, invariable my driver is not going so well with either snap hook or a big fade almost slice. Last two rounds I have been crushing drives and hitting Fairways with a a nice little draw. My shot scope watch and tags tracks my distances pretty well. I was averaging 258 off tee prior to this past week. I hit 3-300+yard drives plus about 6 over bet 270 and 293 , then followed that up with another day of solid drives. On the few occasions I tried to hit 3w due to a short dogleg left, I hit screaming snap hooks. On 1 I got lucky and it shot through trees on left cutting off turn and landing in middle of fairway, but I am inclined to think that whatever I am doing to drive the ball does not lend itself to fairway woods and vice versa. My guy tells me to tee fw back a couple inches in my stance. Any thoughts.
  14. I think I understand that more offset Makes it easier for beginners to square face st impact? How much does offset really impact shot? Could a change in offset result in more of a push or a pull? The reason I ask is that my ball striking is getting much better, and I recently switched from mizuno jpx 919 hot metals to forged irons. I noticed that I have not hit the dreaded pull since switching irons. Now it's only been three rounds since switch, but I was good for at least 1 or 2 dead pull approach shots per round. Am I just swinging better or does less offset just suit my swing.
  15. So I played another round with forged st. I really hate this game. Yesterday inwas absolutely crushing the drive, played driver then wedge most of the day, I was hitting a nice little fade and just crushing drives to 265 and even to 310. Just really good day with driver. Did not get another of play with long irons, but did hit 7-gw allot. Its a shame my lob wedge let me down, I just could not keep anything on green, was overshooting for 60yds scoring really hurt by short game today. The fact is the more I hit these forged irons the more I love them. They are surprising easybto manipulate ball flight. I am getting comfortable with that aspect of it. I did mishit a approach shot badly on 16th hole. 169 out, up hill to elevated green. I hit what looked like a nice 7i but trajectory was too low, and it just blew right over green, t box behind that and into woods, it was like 200. I did not skull it, it got up in air, but it did not go high and drop soft, it was more like a mid trajectory line drive. Just a poor strike as I was trying to get in high and land soft. I did pull trigger on set of hot metal pro heads, so I will swap out forged and see if hot metal pro fits my game better. If not a significant different feel, I will stock with forged, the more I hit them the more I like them..
  16. Exactly what I was thinking. Hot metal on 5 and 6 iron. Forged on 7-gw. The alternative will be to test a set of hot metal pros, they are same tech as hot metal in a smaller head with less offset. Sized like forged, offset like tour, forgiveness like hot metals. I have a bid in now for a set of hot metal pro heads, would swap them into amt white shafts, regrip to midsize which is my preferred grip, and give it a run. Otherwise I could keep forged 7-gw and pick up a hot metal 5 and 6iron. I like tinkering so this swapping shafts and heads and experimenting gives me pleasure. I could always just go backntk hotmetals as I was comfortable with them, just tt x1 shafts launched a little high, so swapping out to Amt white might help. I guess it comes down to whether hotmetals sell today or not.
  17. I played 18 today, beautiful day. So it seams like I am defintely losing distance with forged 5 vs hot metal 5. Funny though 7-gw I was probable the same or even maybe a little longer. Might be a little more spin keeping shots in air longer. In fact, I was playing by myself, no one in front or behind me so I really was practicing. Especially approach shots. I was like 148 out, with hot metals I would hit easy 8i. So today I hit 7i and blew right over green, nice high approach, next I hit 8i, thought I went over so hit another and then tried 9i. When I rolled up to green with 3 balls on green. I was happy but confused. I think it was 2 with 8i and 1 with 9. So I think the short irons are same or better then hot metals, but where hot metals excel for me would be 4,5 and maybe 6i. At this point hot metals are going to sell on eBay, so I am going to play forged for a bit and see if I feel comfortable.
  18. Thats the question. I feel like the tt x1 shafts where fine but I do prefer a lower trajectory. The forged irons defintely felt like much lower launch, probable combination of lower launch amt white shafts, plus the forged irons. My guy tells me to play forgednirons with amt white shafts for a few rounds before doing anything at all. One other issue is the grips, I use the lamkin sonar mid size grips on the hot metals, forged came with some std gold pride grips that felt firmer. I already have the lamkin sonar grips for the amt shafts, so that at least will be eliminated from equation. First time out either forged irons yesterday's I played irons only for 18 holes, no woods. It was about 38-42degrees so a little cold. I did struggle a little getting my normal launch and was a little less accurate and shorter for sure. Mis hits still went pretty straight but I was really hitting some screamers off tee with 4 iron. Low line drives was the norm. About 200 yards, at best so close to what I hit my hot metal 5i. I can live with less distance as it probable works better for gapping between my 7w which is easy 200-210. Have to lose wither 4i though because it puts me at 15 clubs. At this point it's too soon to make a decision, but hot metals look.like they will sell on eBay soon. Should have probable held off on listing them, but too late now. Once I swap grips. And play a few rounds I will at least have a better idea how I hit forged irons. I want to play forged irons, but if it does not work out and i have to go back to game improvement irons, I will pick up a set of jpx 921 hot metal pros. Might pick up a set anyway to test.
  19. I have a two sets of jpx 919 irons right now. Trying to decide which to keep. Current players Jpx-919 hot metal with tt new concept tour x1 shafts. No issues here. Good mid high launch plenty of distance. Decent dispersion. Recently picked up a set of jpx-919 forged with tt amt white x stiff. Played first round with these irons today. Had trouble getting them in air and distance was off. Now it was first time touching these irons. I can live with shorter distance. Here is whatbinam thinking. Swap amt white shafts into hot metals and sell forged with tour x1 shafts. Or keep forged irons and learn hot to hit them better. Live with less distance if it means more control and as inget better they will be qith me longer.

  21. Love this right up. I buy and sell lots of older mizunos.. Mp-25 Mp-59 MP-60 I really want to start hitting some of these. I just ordered a set of mp-33's that are identical to the mp-100 anniversary edition irons i flipped a couple weeks ago. I have never even hit a blade, but I do play the jpx919 hm. I am itching to pick a set of vintage blades and play them, perhaps I will try the mp-33.
  22. I recently started playing in a regular basis after an 8-10year hiatus. In the past year I have been seriously tinkering with my bag. I have committed my current bag setup till at least end of this 2021. I started playing again in jun 2020. Here is bag evolution.. Driver. Callaway x series tour 9.0 Epic flash sz Mavrik Epic flash Mavrik max Mavrik sz current player. Irons Steelhead x-14 3-sw Diablo edge r 4-pw Rogue cf18 4-sw Mavrik max 5-sw Mizuno JPX919 HOT METAL 5-LW Current players Putter. Odessey white hot #7 Idesseybtriple track 7 current player. I also added some fairway woods this year that I absolutely love to hit. They really fill some gaps for.me. Mavrik sz 3w Great off tee for doglegs or windy conditions. I can get 250yds but really try to turn this one. I do also hit it off Fairway when really far out from poor drive. Mavrik sz 5w Off tee on 200 yard par 3' s or shorter dogleg. Defintely on long approaches, around 200. Mavrik 7w Haven't gamed this one yet, but plan is to swing easy with 5i up to around 190, 7w to fill gap between 190-210. I was never a fairway wood guy, always played 3i then 4i to 220, but inhave learned that I am more consisten with a smoother less aggressive swing, so my plan is to eas back a little on irons and use fairway woods, to get the distance when needed.
  23. I have the jpx919 hot metal irons 4-lw. I think they provide a good amount of forgiveness and still give you a nice feel, easy clean turf interaction etc. Compared the callawy mavrik irons the mizunos feel much smaller. They are not really significantly smaller but they feel smaller and cleaner. I really want to hit the jpx pro or forged, but my bag is set for next season. I am commited to at least 1 season with current bag setup. Maybe some tweaks next season. If I were you, I would try to hit several different brand clubs when getting fit. I would defintely include the mizuno jpx lineup in my testing.
  24. I guess what confuses me is all this talk of strategically located weight in perfect spot down low or toward toe to make club more forgiving, then add weight to the hosel which is high and toward heel, just seams contradictory. My gut tells me a heavier shaft and heavier club head would result in better more consistent strikes for me. So I have tt 130g sour concept shafts on my jpx919's. I might weigh all the clubs to see what I find.
  25. I am looking for some forum members to join up with this spring in South Jersey shore area. Will play anywhere South of Tom's River area. Would really like to setup a sat morning group. There are tons of good courses around. Looks like we have some time to set something up.
