  1. My bag is set, I cannot even thing of anything new to add. Driver Mavrik sub zero 9 deg Aldila rogue white 70x Fairway woods. Mavrik sub zero 3w and 5w. Mavrik std 7w same shaft as driver in 70s Irons, Mizuno JPX-919 5-9, pw, gw, sw and lw. ODESSEY triple track 7 putter. I was lucky this winter and played a ton of golf in NJ till weather put a stop to it in late Jan and through February. I cannot wait till we get rid of all this snow and get back in the 40's so I can play again. I am feeling like a golf trip to a warmer climate, but my wife is Covid crazy and might blow a gasket if I try to go to florida.....
  2. I don't think they where shims as they went into the shaft tip and where not bigger then shaft so cannot see how it would be shim. Now I am going to have to learn about swing weights and how to adjust. Those weights in the tip hosel seam like a not so great idea....
  3. I have played lastly callaway, recently rogue cf18, and most recently mavrik max. I really liked the mavrik max, in fact I ordered a set of project x 6.0 steel shafts to lower launch. mavriks are super forging and very long. I really was loving them and only complaint was they are designed to help you get ball up in air and I really do kot need help there. I was happy with what was my 4th set of callaway irons. I bought the jpx-919 hot metal irons on a whim. Really a backup set or a set to play while I was swapping out shafts on mavriks. After 1 round with mizunos, my mind was changed. Put callaways on ebaybthat night. After 3 rounds its definitive. So both clubs are forgiving. Mavriks are a little longer. JPX are easier to control. And my dispersion. Is tighter. Now this could be that the jpx came with tt tour issue new concept x100 shafts, the mavriks had the elevate 105. So shaft is variable. Feel, when I say feel I am jot so much talking about ball striking but for me it's a turf interaction issue. The mizunos just feelnlike they glide through strike zone. Crisp, clean and effortless are words that come to mind. The callaways feel chunky, slow and steady. Car analogy, Callaway Mavriks and Rogues is to American muscle car where Mizuno is to Porxh 911 Turbo S
  4. I have been removing shafts from lots of iron sets of late to clean and buff them out. I noticed some shafts have a brass plug in the tip, some do some don't. Is this plug for increasing swing weight? Seams like a weird place for additional weight inside hosel. Funny thing its in some irons but not all in same set. I have found about 6 of these plugs in 4 sets of clubs. At first i thought it was to reinforce tip. With weight and placement thereof being so much talked about with new clubs designs, I am really curious what these plugs are for.
  5. I hear that especially because mizuno changes clubs as they go up. Wedges are different then lower irons. I love my jpx919 so much so that I ordered both the sand and lob wedges.
  6. To each his own. My time my money, but really no money but cost of a gallon of acid and some sanding supplies. Its like therapy to me to tinker in my garage. The first set of clubs I worked on where my callaway rogue cf18 irons. They where in New condition so all I did is wet sad them to dull down chrome to a nice satin finish. Some of these old forged mizunos I am working on are seriously banged up. I cannot get all dings out without removing to much steel. So I strip them in mutiatic acid to get chrome off then sand the layer of nickel to get nice smooth satin nickel finish. Then I paint fill and polish, and polish and polish some more. Next set I do I am gonna try a different finish. I have a set of mp-60 irons that are really dinged up, probable gonna have to sand them allot to get a smooth finish. Not sure what finish I want, defintely not shiny, but blued or gunmetal, not sure.
  7. I have been playing for 21 years. Never played anything but driver and irons. Recently really got the bug and started playing more regularly and seriously. I got rid of old clubs with 3 and 4 iron. So first fairway wood i added was Mavrik 3w, I hit it 230-250, seriously I use this off tee quite a bit. It's easier for me to shape shot. I liked mavrik 3 so much I ordered a 5w, 220-240, love it. Loved that so much got the Mavrik 7w 200-220 ,this club really fills gap for me. I never been a fan of hybrids, just cannot stand the look. Besides my 3,5 and 7w all are usable off tee or fairway and rough. The launch on these mavrik fairway woods is just awesome, it just starts out low and rises at end of fligbr.and drops right down. Love it. I have driver and all 3 fairway woods in same shaft, all 4 aldila rogue white 70, driver 70x fw 70s.
  8. I currently have 4 sets of muzunos. Mp-100 centenial edition Mp-25 Mp-59 And a newer set of JPX-919 5-lw. My current players.
  9. I do not keep clubs long enough to really beat them up too bad. I do take care of them. Clean and polish them while watching TV at night. I also buy a ton of clubs. Clean them up and sell them. I am currently chrome stripping a set of.mizuno mp-59's. They where are scratched and dinged up. Chrome looks like he'll when its all beat up so I acid dipped them, wire brushed, sanded with 400,800 and 1000 grit belt sander. Polished up on buffing wheel then hand polished. See pic after dip and almost finished sanding.

    Love metal

Anyone else obsessed with forged irons? I am so annoyed at people who straight up abide their mizono irons. I spent about 2 hours today refinishing two mp-59 irons. Acid bath Wire wheel. Sand qith 400, 800 and 1000grit sandpaper. Buff out with black compound and buffing wheel. Chrome polish by hand. Just love the feel of smooth steel in my hands.....
  11. So today I finally got the set if mp-59's. The chrome is super hard, but is all scratched up with several dings. So I decided to try the mutiatic acid bath then sander. I just used 3i, so if I destroyed it I could always pick up another to complete set. Steps so far 1.Removed head from Shaft. Clean it. Remove old epoxy etc. 2. Place it on bent steel rod and submerge it into muriatic acid bath. Pulled it out after about 30 seconds and rinsed in clean water bucket. Wiped it off and decided it could take a minute or so. Putbit back in for another minute a s checked again. Back in acid again for about 5 minutes. Clearly this chrome is thick and strong. It worked, and I could still see some chrome inside dings. Washed and dried it. 3. Belt sander. 1" x30 x 1000 grit, got no where with dings. So I tried 800, then 600 and finally decided that 400 grit would be 1st sand. Then 600 then 1000. 4. Buffing wheel with black compound. Wow. This club looks so good I am doing them all. Its got a beautiful satin nickel finish. I really do not love chrome look anyway, so this is really pleasing to me. Its not satin chrome like my jpx919's but rather a nickel color less silver a little darker and very smooth. I do not think I sanded through nickel, but I do not know how to tell if I did. I will finish them all and apply some polish, paint fill and then put them back together. Then on ebay they go. I hope someone appreciates how long this takes..... here is a quick before and after pic 3i still need some more buffing, but I am loving it.
  12. I have not played them at all. I playbthe jpx919 hm, with tt tour issue new concept x1. I alsonhave a set of project x 6.5 waiting to be installed in something, but once I played the jpx with the x1 shafts, I just felt no need to change. I get a mid trajectory and much better control from my previous shaft. (Elevate 95) I have lost a little distance lately, maybe its me working on swing, or winter cold, but I would rather be a little less long if it means I can have more control. So I have played the xp95's on a set of rogue irons. Loved irons hated shaft. I played the elevate 95 in the mavrik max irons again, I loved the irons but disliked shaft. Both where in stiff. I bought jpx919 about a month ago, I was still playing mavriks withbidea of swapping shaft for the px6.5, once I got jpx and played 1 round, mavriks went on ebay and px6.5 shafts are collecting dust. .....
  13. So this was interesting to me I picked up a 2gallon pail with a lid and a gallon of muriatic acid I have a bunch of old clubs laying around soni though I would experiment with dulling the chrome. 1st club i submerged In acid was an older warrior lob wedge club head. Acid did not touch club head at all soni guess its stainless steel. 2nd text was an older ram youth 7i. Now the acid really went to town, it took a few seconds but then it started bubljng away after about a minute it was entirely black qith a layer of what looked like soot it washed off. So I then just stuck three ram clubs I. There shafts and all and left them juata little too long. Chrome was gone, whatever chatting was on groove area took longest to come off but by the time that came off the entire club head was destroyed, it was catered and dimple. So I think those rams where cast qith some really cheap steel, and chromed without Nicole, I though acid was supposed to remove chrome but leave nickel. I don't mind running those clubs if I learn something from process. For sure, next time I am just going to keep taking club head out of solution every 30seconds or so to make sure its not getting destroyed. In fact not sure this acid bath is even worth it when I can just sand them smoth. One other thing. The older mizino irons have an extremely durable chrome finish. Its very hard to sand to a dull satin.
  14. That is some beautiful steel. I also have a set of mp-59's being delivered soon. Cannot wait to see those clubs too. My jpx919's are also a thing of beauty. Once I played mizuno everything else just looks and feels less then.. if that makes any sense.
  15. I did a set of callaway diablo edge r irons that where chrome. All I did was use 220 grit wet sandpaper and hand rub the shine off chrome, they where not dinged up, actually brand new, so the came out great with a smooth brushed nickel look and feel. I also did same to setnof callaway rogue, but again clubs where like news. Some of the mizunos I am buying are well played. I do jot intend on removing chrome, just sanding it down a bit to take off shine and maybe hide some of the scratches and smaller dings. I could use chemicals to strip chrome only down to nickel, that's also an option.
  16. Mizuno MP-25 3-PW, dynamic gold tour issue x100 steel shafts, golf pride tour wraps, clubs, shafts and wraps are in very good used condition. Cleaned, polished and fresh paint fill. I use my signature white paintfill because I like the way it looks. Easy to change. See attached pics. For sale $550. I will cover box and shipping charges. See attached pics.
  17. Picked up a set of mizuno mp-25. Cleaned polished and paint filled in white.
  18. I do not like the look of old knocked up and scratched chrome. I do not like the look of brand new shiny chrome either. What I like is a brushed or satin nickel or dull chrome finish. So I am buying and cleaning up sets of clubs and reselling. I bought a small bench top 1" belt sander, and a 6" bench grinder with buffing wheel and a wire wheel. I have 220, 400, 600, 800 and 1000 grit sanding belts. So far all I have done is replace shafts and grips, clean and polish heads. Now I want to try using belt sander to see how they come out. Going to experiment with a few of the dozens of spare clubs I have laying around. Belt sander camervwith 80 grit belt which totally ate up an old iron. I was able to salvage it but I need to be must more careful. I am going to start with 600 or 800 grit. Then work up or down based on what happens.
  19. So i am starting to assembly my club repair setup. Yesterday I melted my first Graphite shaft.... idiot. I have already reshafted a few irons, with steel shafts, very easy with heat gun and some leather gloves. I do kot even need a shaft extractor, just heat with one hand a pull gently with other hand till it starts to move. So feeling all cocktail and excited to reshaft my new 7w. I threw the shaft in the vice, started heating the callaway optifit tip and applying a little pulling, tip would not budge, so I patiently melted the tip..... started sagging so i stopped and cut it off. What a drag. So I cut it off flush with optifit tip then drilled it out.. Trimming instructions for shaft said to trim 1" from 3" shaft tip then trim butt to length for 7w. It was a driver shaft. So I ended up with a 1.5" tip trim, and no but trim. Assembly went smooth from there so now I have to see how it plays. I have noticed how trimming an extra half inch off tip will affect playability. Time to at least watch a video on pulling Graphite shafts from tips. Also need to wait for all correct tools to arrive.. On another better note, I just received some buffing compound sticks. All I can say is wow. Iron heads looks so awesome after just a few minutes of buffing. So here is my plan to restore old clubs. 1. Thoroughly clean them in warm soapy water and rinse. 2. Remjve heads from existing shafts. 3.clean up epoxy residue inside hosel and shaft tip. 3. Buff heads out till looking as good as possible. Here is where I need some advice. I have a medium wire wheel on 1 side and a buffing wheel on other of bench grinder. Is there a wire wheel with a finer finsigkhbthatbincould use to help get rid of scratches? I used my existing wheel in an old ram kids iron, and really stripped heat down to a brushed matt finish. It looks good but I can see wire wheel marks on club. For better sellable irons I will just polish and buff but I am wondering if I should be getting different wire wheel... 4. 9nce heads are hood as I can make them i will reassemble with new or existing shafts and grips.
  20. I would also throw in the callaway sureout 2. Its got a massive sole so for beginners as long as ypu trust it and swing through, the ball will just pop right up. I used to have both 56 sand and 60 lob in sureout2. Since I have started using set matching wedges. But I still use surr out 2 for short lobs or full swing 50-70 yard shots. About a month ago I sold my rogue irons before.my mavriks came in. I played two rounds with 1,3and 5w, an old short 6i, and my lob wedge. It was kind fun trying to hit lob wedge from 120out. It was interesting to see what kind of shots you can create with limited irons.
  21. I just bought a set of Mizuno Mp-100 forged irons. They are supposed to be a special collectors edition for the 100yr mizuno anniversary. I have read they they are excited same shape as mp-33. They where released in 2006, and I read that there where only 2006 sets sold. So I just dropped $305 on a 15 year old Set 3-pw. I plan to really buff them out fix paint fill, regrip and hang on wall, but who knows since they already been played i might just give they a round or two. Will post pics after I receive them. Anyone have and experience with these clubs?
  22. I just sold my mavrik max irons today, so these jpx 919 hot metals are my current game improvement players. Shopping for some muzuni forged irons.
  23. Just cleaned up my new to me Mizuno JPX919 Hot Metal iron set. I cleaned them with some soapy hot water then dried them and buffed them out. I love the way they feel when I hit them and I love the way they look.
