  1. Thank you Gents. I get to move up a whole tee box if I want it.
  2. That was a lot of fun. Will do it again. Congrats to @daviddvm on a great year.
  3. That's an interesting setup from a woods perspective. Stiff flex Triple Diamond (very much a fade bias club) to an R flex 3W and 5W that's an off brand. If I put both on a tee, which do you hit better? Driver or 3W?
  4. @Caddie1966 based on your description of TX courses with pace of play issues/rules, I feel like we should know each other. Sounds exactly like 3 courses I've belonged to. I'm taking a wild guess you're currently at Diamond Oaks.
  5. The whole point of captains picks was to find the hottest, trending golfer. He's clearly in that category. Hits fairways and is putting great. Gotta give him some serious consideration. A uniform change would suit him well.
  6. @GolfSpy_BNG this is my week. I've been stuck in 4th pl for too many weeks. My big break out is coming. Thanks for setting this up. It's been a load of fun and RYP makes it easy to stay involved.
  7. Watched a close friend lose control of his battery operated push cart on its first day out. 6th hole. New with the controller so he thinks he's hitting the stop button. Instead hits the accelerator button. Right into a pond. Had to wade in to about 8' of water to fetch the clubs, cart, car keys and cell phone. That's a bad day.
  8. I went to make my picks but it showed Mexico Open. I assume we are skipping NOLA this week?
  9. Had a chance to play a 7 or 8 holes with the Cut Blue. I believe it's their premium 4pc urethane ball. Figured I'd post some notes. This was not a promo offer and I wasn't given a ball to review. For the record my regular gamer is a TM TP5x. Appearance. Bright white, I didn't see any distinct dimple pattern. It did have a nice bold alignment line for putting. I'd give it an A- Distance. It was not as long as my current ball with the driver. I found it to have a medium ball flight. Off the irons it also had a medium ball flight and played 1/2 club shorter than my TP5x. I prefer a higher ball flight, but if you're already a high ball hitter, this could be a good fit. I'd give it a B- Feel. This is where I had a bit of a problem. It felt firm and somewhat clicky off every club in the bag. Driver, irons, wedge approach and the putter. Shortgame chipping and pitching reaction were not appealing to me. Gave me zero confidence that I could get it close without playing for additional runout. I'd give it a C Durability. Big problem here. No errant shots, no cart paths and it visibly showed some wear. After only 7 holes it was time to retire it. I'd guess you're going to be hard pressed to get 18 holes and be happy to pull it out for another round. I'd give it a C- Overall Summary: it's a C. I would not be a buyer of this ball. For me the downside was durability and feel.
  10. And I got my first win. Whoop whoop. Moving on up.
  11. Had a chance to play 9 holes with the new PXG Ball. This was not a promotional review and I wasn't gifted a ball to try. I have great respect for what Bob Parsons has built and what he stands for with our Vets, but the ball was a total bust for me. For the record my regular gamer is a TM TP5x. Appearance. Bright white, looks good and held its color. I didn't see any distinct dimple pattern. I'd give it an A- Distance. Maybe the best performance. It was plenty long and possibly a few yds further than my current ball with the driver. I found it to have very a low ball flight. Off the irons it also had a very low ball flight. No appreciable distance gain in the air but because of the ball flight it ran through every green. I'd have to guess the driver distance is attributed to the ball flight. I'd give it a C+ Feel. This is where I had a big problem. It felt like a rock off every club in the bag. Driver, irons, wedge approach and the putter. Short game chipping and pitching felt terrible. Gave me zero confidence that I could get it close without a 6-8' runout. I'd give it a D. Durability. I had one errant shot that caught a cart path and it visibly scarred. Another bunker shot left a pretty good bruise. I'd give it a C- Overall: it's a C- Summary. I gave it 9 holes. We play a competitive game on the weekends and this ball was costing me shots. Rock hard feel, no appreciable spin off the irons or chips and pitches and it felt too hard for me off the putter. I think the price point is that of a Tier 1 ball, so I'd say I'm a hard pass.
  12. Im glad CBS is doing the Mic'd up segments. Hope we get more. Here's my Top 5. Tyrrell Hatton, Joel Dahmen and Geno B, Tony Finau, Harry Higgs and Sahith Theegala.
  13. I watched 5 of the 8 episodes last night. They did a very good job, and as someone said, they picked a perfect year to start the filming. Must watch if you're a golfer. It's not edge of your seat like "F1, Drive" series, but it's worth a few hours.
  14. Amen. If you're cheating at golf, you're cheating in business and in life.
  15. I would love to join. Sounds like fun and thanks for doing this.
  16. I'm darn loyal. Just added a Sub70 gap wedge. My only non Callaway/Odyssey club in the bag. Bag is Callaway Org 7 but my ball is still a TM TP5x.

    Cooking

I live In Texas so I use my smoker plenty. Best gift I got last year was a MEATER +. Wireless and Bluetooth temp probe to your phone or tablet using their app. I don't even have to go outside to check the smoker. I can be on the GC and check it. Wonderful device.
  18. We have a great forum here and I would hope the numerous equipment companies are reading the posts. What would you like to see the mfgs do differently in 2023? My starter list: 1. Stop the strengthening of iron lofts. A 6i loft today was a 4i just a few years ago. We can't continue this trend. We'll all need 3-4 gap wedges. (Maybe that's the plan) but we do have a 14 club limit. 2. To the bag guys. Give us a 6 or 7 way top on a cart bag. Not everyone wants a 14/15 way top. Your thoughts?
  19. This simple calculation has stood the test of time and applies to all skill levels. --Take you true 5 iron distance and multiply by 36. That's your optimum 18 hole yardage. ie. your 5 iron is 160 x 36 = 5700-5800 yds. PGA Pro=. 5 iron 210x36= 7500 yds. Give it a try.
  20. The Paa-Ko customer experience is tops. Is it worth $200, probably not. Last time I played there it was under $75, but with a guys trip of 8 that had never been to NM, we put it on the list. None of the other 3 courses were over $100.
  21. We didn't play Cochiti because they had just aerated greens. UNM had a collegiate tourney. Otherwise I'd have added those.
  22. We played Paa-Ko, Black Mesa, Twin Warriors and Sandia. The group voted Paa-Ko 1, Sandia 2, TW and Mesa T3/4. All were excellent. Mesa has some wicked greens and the layout is tricky without GPS. You'd have to play it with someone that knows their way around. Easily a great layout. All around it's a very affordable trip. We booked a month out but had some help from each golf staff.
  23. You'll need the right FW wood or Hybrid and the shaft that optimizes a higher launch. Two things to consider. Try a softer shaft R vs S and try a softer tip shaft. One with a low kick point. Without getting too technical, find a wood/hy that has the weight toward the back of the club. Once you start hitting the ball in the air, your carry distance will increase and your renewed confidence will fix a lot of flaws.
  24. Thanks for the heads up. I will look into the Sub70. I just added a wedge from Sub70 and I've been very happy. Great group with excellent service.
