  1. Using the MEZZ Max Putter.  I am not a Putter Ho so my comparisons will be along with my gamer a Makefield original with a BGT shaft.

For reference My gauge is the total number of putts for a round and the info from the CAPTO unit.

I took out the Makefield on the first round of the year and had a terrific round of putting ending up with 3 putt on each side and a few one putts for a even 36 putts. OK its a regulation round.

Week one with the mezz mzx and I recorded the same number of putts however there where more  3 putts and more 1 putts.

Week two was not a go day of putting.  no concentration resulting in a putt count of 38.

Week 3 was a different week entirely.  a record low for me at 33 putts! only one 3 putt a side.

This took me indoors for a CAPTO session which will be posted later.

As a reminder I am releasing a video as to the initial thoughts of the  putter and on course putting.  We will also be discussing it on the live stream tonight at 530 pm eastern. look up mcgolf on youtube if you want to watch and or listen. Might even be talking the pinehurst trip.

Needless to say the putter aligns well and the feel for the "NO TORQUE" is certainly a thing. Thing so far that is most impactful to me is where the shaft enters the head. It is back from the face far enough to allow for some alignment lines and NOW when looking at the ball I'm able to see the face to the ball in relation to the direction of the putt. I.e, less crap in the way to putt better.

  2. I have video coming soon on the putter.

    However initial thoughts:

    1) the design for LAB putters certainly score big points for being un conservative.  This is not necessarily a bad thing. New shapes can bring different perspectives to putting breaking stereotypes. The MEzz reminds me of the tanks from the movie Tron.

    2) the look of the putter does not reflect the weight. The MEZZ max look like it could drive nails and should be heavy enough to do so. Where in fact it is lighter then my original putter.

    3) the alignment of the putter is massive easy.  To the point I find myself now seeing some breaks in greens I didnt before.

    4) the ball rolls very easy off the face. The feel is very solid and distance control is something consistent.

    obviously more to come

  3. Length of the golf club is one of the more to most important parameter(s) of the golf club. Length is equal to consistency.

It is IMO the one parameter that can be determined via dynamic testing. regardless of the shaft head etc.

Once the proper length is found you can start finding the rest of the needs after.

Using a club an inch over at your height seems excessive unless you have short arms or swing in a fashion that picks up the swing while swinging across the target line. much like stepping out of the batters box.

Use your current 6 iron and hit three balls check the impact pattern, then choke down 1/2" and do it again then another 1/2" and do it again it will become obvious which length is better suited to you.

  4. Sam was willing to take my own recommendations based on being a fitter. I told nope lets go through the process. I want to see how it works and hopefully I will learn a bit.

We got nerdy talking specifications, swing types and how the putters worked etc. i told him my misses. And the video revealed my a little to far from the ball and at a lie 1 degree off my spec.

We went with the recommendations. I have a feeling that I will be choking up just because I know it know. LOL.

He recommended the MEZZ MAX and that's what is ordered. I will say in the custom section where we have the choice of the different slight lines, colors, shafts and grips really give a feeling of a custom putter.

I also convinced him into a video and or live stream. After talking with him I have no doubt the run and gun questions much like the livestream is a great place to start.

    Now waiting on the putter.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,🤪

  5. From my experience ferrule creep comes from the exposure to the heat and cold. Primarily from the heat in the trunk and going out to play. Temperature changes combined with little is done to a ferrule in production to keep it from moving except the fit to the shaft. In most cases when removing heads from shafts on OEMs there is little evidence that a ferrule was actually glued to the head. This is not 100% but I'd say a very percentage.

The "fix" to this again is a dab of superglue at the top of the hosel for the ferrule to seat against and it should be done. Or if doing a repair, add some epoxy to the ID of the ferrule to ensure a good bond to the shaft and head at assembly.

  6. Unless you want to continue to perform these types of activities I would say find a club guy to get the change for you.

the initial investment to get this done could also make the task more expensive than you may want to consider.

if you are looking for another hobby and have the time to learn then by all means get the tools , do the job right with the proper tool to remove the level of error and be prepared to trade jobs for beer.

  7. Adding the length of length will increase the swing weight, to lower it would meaning adding to the butt of the club as the easiest way to do this. It would take an extra ordinary amount of wieght.

The club it going to be heavier in the head but the over all weight will be very similar. I would not sweat it unless you prefer weight in the hands verse the head

  8. I can speak to thre stroke lab and bgt shafts when compared to a standard putter shaft for different reasons.

one is an odyssey comparison and the stroke lab shaft is light years smoother making it easier for making putts.  This for 2 reasons, the back weight in the shaft and the small amount of steel for the tip.

second is bgt in a makefield putter. Putt Better with a STABILITY putter shaft

  9. Did a quick google search the PING I 20 is a bonded club, it would not have an adapter.

If yours has a "nut" on it. It sounds as if it has been modified to hold an adapter such as an ALL FITT or CLub Connex.

If so remove the adapter and reattach a shaft in the normal fashion

I bought my current gamer irons second hand and have gotten along with them pretty well.  They were originally 2° up from Srixon standard and also + 1/2" (from prev owner).  When I got them I pulled the grips and cut them to std length and have been playing them ever since.  After going for a fitting recently, we determined that I'm not going to gain much from a new set of irons but based on the session, it does appear that getting back a couple of swing weight points would be beneficial to my dispersion and also since I'm not coming over the top as much as I was when I first got them, I need to go back to the std lie angle to help reduce some of my left misses.

So the plan is to pull the heads and tip weights and then rebuild the same pieces with heavier weights to get me back to D2 instead of the C9.5-D0 they are currently at.  I have all the tools required to do that, but can't do the lie adjustment as I don't have the machine and wouldn't try it on my gamers even if I did.

My question is:  Should I go have the lie angles adjusted and then pull the shafts and re-build or re-build them and then take them to have the lie angle changed?  In theory adjusting the lie angle would have a small effect on swing weight so I should do that first, but it's also possible that even with centering beads that I wouldn't get the shaft perfectly centered in the head so maybe it makes sense to adjust lie afterward?  Also possible that the differences are going to be so minimal that it doesn't make a difference either way.....

The removal of 1/2" of the club is generally good for 3 sw pts.

Flattening the lie about 3 degrees can have an affect on swing weight and length of the club. albeit small but there is a change.

Centering beads will not make a noticeable difference.

For this task I would Take the clubs apart, add the weight, reassemble the check length and have lie adjusted to be on the mark when done
