When Do You Switch Putters?
Kevyn Nightingale replied to GolfSpy AFG's topic in General Equipment Talk
I'm loyal to a putter. When I took up golf, a few people told me: "Buy cheap clubs, because you'll replace them soon; buy the most expensive putter that feels good." That was sage advice. The first putter I bought - a Ray Cook Blue Goose - I used (with a couple of intermissions) until last year. That's 32 years. I even changed hands 6 years ago (yes, I hit from the other side now), but I still putt leftie. I've moved to an Evnroll ER5, because it's more stable, but I still love that original putter. It's still in my locker, and I use it with my Sunday bag (because it's lighter to carry). This is not mine, but this is what it looks like. -
Competition vs. non competition play
Kevyn Nightingale replied to fixyurdivot's topic in The 19th Hole
I find there are different games within the game; in increasing order of difficulty 1. On the range 2. On the course by myself 3. On the course in a group 4. Playing for money 5. Playing in a tournament that has very little meaning, such as Wednesday men's night 6. Playing in a tournament that has some importance. For me, that would be a club championship or some other invitational event. -
I use my 3 wood a fair bit. On tee shots where I have to stay short of 240; on the fairway for 2nd shots on many par 5s. When I have a long way to a green that isn't too small, or has a bail out area. I use a 5 wood as well.
