  1. Time Left: 7 days and 5 hours

    • FOR SALE
    • New

I have this one sitting at home, but rather than bending it weak, I figured I’d offer it out. Never hit a ball but no plastic wrap.

    $125

  2. I would also try one of the iomic X grips, there are a few versions. https://www.iomicusa.com/fullswing
  3. I’ll chime in as a corded grip user, (except my driver which has a GP tour velvet align), I put Zgrip aligns on all the rest. I used to use MCCs but I liked the top more than the bottom, so when it was time to switch I went looking for something more consistent. I like a firmer and more abrasive grip for some reason. I find the softer grips like Star, iomic and pure to feel great, but “twisty” on full swings. I don’t have a good reason for the different grip on the driver…
  4. I haven’t yet paid over $100. I have played a few courses that cost that much when I played high school team golf, and more recently for work events, but to be honest it’s not really something that excites me. The special course designs, nice clubhouses and the other extras haven’t brought me any additional joy. I think I can appreciate why some people like it, but I don’t see myself doing it anytime soon. I still have so much fun at the municipal courses around me.
  5. I’m small and have small hands too. I used interlock from the start (age 7) until about 30. a few years ago, I’m 35 now, I started trying baseball to get more speed and help with the driver. While it worked ok on the range, I struggled with my wedges and other awkward finesse shots. Also during my speed training with the stack I saw that I wasn’t faster with baseball and tended to shut the face down too much. I feel my swing more with my left than right hand though, so that could be a reason for my preferences. Baseball grip brings back a little more of a slap shot hit feeling than I now prefer. The experiment was worth it though. I now use an overlap grip for everthing and don’t see myself changing.
  6. I think one thing that I haven’t seen mentioned is to remember that the game is hard and that “bad” shots are inevitable. I laugh them off as part of the round and just move on to the next shot focusing on it with the same (not more/less) attention as before. I have gotten better at not getting too attached to the “perfect” outcome so that whatever comes out isn’t a surprise or reflective of my entire game. Raymond Prior is a Psych who talks about this a little for what it’s worth.
  7. Someone on Reddit posted something interesting about the features changing in these irons. The first is a wayback screenshot of the irons specs from September, 2023, which describes foam, internal face groove, and tungsten in the features. The second is screenshot is a current grab from right Now where they are missing. The redditor claims that the change is nefarious, but I’m not going to go there because Im not going to cut mine open to check, nor do I know whether it’s intentional. I’m not sure what it means for the reviews, or whether this is the right place for it, but for those following along, it’s a little concerning, especially because overall they have performed well for most of us. I’m curious as to the reason for the change. I’m hoping it’s a glitch, or a single manufacturing defect.
  8. It might be minor, but I wonder if his involvement in the Tiger virtual league thing is also adding the final straw. Might just want to focus on life a little. He has a little girl to take care of. The weakest link is likely the advisory board (for reasons noted by some of you guys above), so it was easy to bail.
  9. I love these even though I am always in the running for last place: What Player Will Have the Most Points: Koepka What Player Will secure the Clinching Point on Sunday: Rahm
  10. @revkev yeah I was kind of reacting to other people. I know student loans are a hot topic, and I got a little close to the sun. I didn’t mean to sound terse when replying to you, my wife and I have often day-dreamed about moving to places that are a cheaper. I used to live in NYC and before that Chicago…so almost anywhere, haha. Thankfully, my wife is the smart one who was paid to go to school, so we only have to pay off my debts. I know a married couple whose combined med school debts approach half a million, and other friends who are struggling with $40k outstanding. But the struggle is relative and everyone deserves the benefit of curiosity before blame. There is a lot of student debt, almost $2 trillion that is about to go live again. I just hope that the financial forecast in the coming years does not negatively affect golf and the people who play it. I read some scary sounding predictions with mortgages and home values and it made me think about the 2008 crisis. For a lot of people golf is therapy, and in todays world, we all deserve a place to relax and have fun.
  11. Thanks guys! That’s a good plan. I will definitely take some time to practice my short game, and maybe I’ll even make some friends with the employees and get a deal…who knows. Maybe there will be other folks like me spending more time on the putting green, that would actually be pretty cool. @revkev read my question how I intended it. I didn’t mean to make this about myself, but for what it’s worth, I’m not in any financial trouble or trying to complain about the cost of education. My wife, daughter and I happily live in a decent area and plan to stay here for a while. She is a professor of chemistry/biology and I am a deputy attorney for the state. We’re happy and can take care of ourselves. I am not saying that I won’t be able to pay anything back, or anything like that. I’m only thinking about the fact that golf requires disposable income, and the way payments are calculated, a lot of people like me will not be able to afford as much golf as was possible during the pause. So I wonder what effects that might have on golf, which really exploded for other folks in my generation during the pandemic. Will see see anything change, or am I and some economists overreacting? Well, I paid them and didn’t play golf…that’s kind of the point of my post. Like a lot of people around my age, the loan forgiveness program happened in the years when we were just starting to make “golf money.” My question is whether I am alone in this financial position, and what that means for luxuries, like golf.
  12. I gotta believe I’m not the only one looking at my upcoming October payment and thinking that my golf budget is going to take significant hit. I’ve read that some housing experts expect some issues to last a few years, but I wonder about recreation as well. It’s always the first thing to go when my money is tight. Will courses have fewer millennials next year? Anyone else have any thoughts, concerns or reassuring wisdom?
  13. I want to like BOA, but every time I’ve tried them I can’t tighten them right. I have wide feet with a big heel. I tie my laced shoes tighter in the arches and like to leave the ankle looser for comfortable walking. I can never seem to get the boa to do that. It always seems to be a bit of the reverse with the ankle tight and the arches loose.
  14. I did it. I haven’t gotten to the range, but started swinging it in the house. It really gives you a feel for the club face that I haven’t felt in any other training aid. Hoping it works out.
  15. Flat Cat was having a sale (20% off for Labor Day) so I just bought one plus a backup driver shaft to give this a go. I think it’s really intriguing. I have a tendency to present too much loft and I think this setup will be a great way to really feel where the face is. Plus I think Fitz is a cool and want to be like him.
  16. I think that’s a good guess. The material doesn’t stick to a magnet, so (according to my chemistry professor wife), if it’s metal, it could be chrome or maybe nickel plating leftovers. I took a macro photo if that’s helpful. I’m curious if it’s common in the manufacturing process. I just haven’t bought enough new clubs to know.
  17. Got some weekend updates after two more sessions at the range Saturday and 9 holes this morning. Overall I’m still loving the feel when I time it up right, and when it’s good it’s easy to see where this could fit in my bag. It’s a flat trajectory eve. With my tendency to deliver a lot of extra loft. I took some pictures of the PRGR that give an idea of the readings I’m getting with the random assortment of range balls. One thing that’s apparent is the wide variety I’m seeing. When I’m timing it, I’m seeing about 140-145 ball speed, which looks like around 225 carry, but it’s difficult to be sure. the courses have been soft, so I haven’t seen any roll on top of the carry yardage here. Sadly, I hit tons of push fades that fall weakly right, some ground balls and some dippy hooks. I took a video that hopefully gives an impression of the kind of feedback you get. (Please excuse the jerry rigged headcover phone mount and bad angle, hopefully it still provides some value. I promise to set up a tripod next time to get the ball flight better.) On good strikes it’s a nice full sound, but not as soft as my normal irons. Getting it higher on the face on or off the toe and it’s more hollow, and higher pitched. I’m getting g great forgiveness for launch angle and carry, but it’s not as forgiving east-west as my hybrid. I think that’s just the nature of having only 18* of loft. The nice thing is that the misses have less curve on the, the hard part is that I’m am really bad at timing this club. When going back and forth with my others, the biggest difference is that I can’t feel where the club head is in my swing. I added about 8 grams of lead tape to it before playing today, and it helped, but sadly it’s still requires a different feel from my 5 iron or hybrid. Also it makes the shaft feel softer, which didn’t help with my timing much, and I pushed both shots I hit on the course today with it maybe 20 yards right. I’m not giving up yet though because the trajectory really fills in an important gap in my bag. I think the current stock setup would be better for someone with lighter weight iron shafts though. Feel a little bad piling it on, but last night I noticed another odd thing. For me, the best part of the forum reviews is to get an unbiased, down and dirty look into the product. With that said, after coming back from the range, I was cleaning off the foot powder spray with soap and water and noticed some odd pieces of something starting to peel up from inside the grooves. I believe it’s not the chalky spray because it holds its shape and is silver on the underside. So I grabbed a tee and cleaned the rest of the grooves and was able clear out some pretty big pieces of what I think is metal out of the club head. The grooves look fine and nothing feels weird by touch, but I’ve never seen this before, so I took some pictures. If anyone knows what this is let me know. I did not notice any negative effects hitting it this morning. The last picture shows the face after cleaning out all the grooves with the tee. IMG_3927.mov
  18. I love playing in the rain! Well, as long as it’s not too cold (below 50 for me). It’s calming and, because the courses are empty, I can play much quicker. I always bring my push cart with the umbrella holder. I keep a towel up in the supports. I don’t wear a glove in dry weather, but have the black footjoy rain gloves for when it raining hard. I don’t have any fancy rain gear, just some waterproof shoes, a budget shell jacket, and synthetic pants that sort of repel water. I probably should get some nicer stuff, but I’ve always found it almost impossible to find the right fits. Plus, I like to embrace the elements so getting a bit wet is all part of the fun.
  19. My only other thought is whether your Srixon’s have more grooves (or different grooves) that are more efficient at clearing debris.
  20. This is kind of me. I’m not a great fairway wood player, so my goal is to have something reach a little further than my longest iron without getting out of my comfort zone. With the lighter shaft, it reminds me that I’m not swinging a normal iron as soon as I pick it up. Still, when I get it timed up, the feel is undoubtedly great. I hit the UDI and liked it better than the DHY, but it could be partly because it matched and gapped better with my current irons. It had a similar feel too, if not slightly more hollow feeling. Comparing it to the other options, I wouldn’t call the Caley compact, but it’s not DHY big. If it’s meant to compete with the latter, then maybe @Vegan_Golfer_PNW and I aren’t really the target players? I did notice that the stock length is .25 longer (39.75) than other 18* utilities, like the Sub70, for what it’s worth. It would be nice to see the website again though, as I can’t remember how Caley described it.
  21. It sure seems like manufacturers are trying to carve out different setups for different folks even in the Utility iron range—which I clearly didn’t expect. FWIW, to balance out the others, the TM stealth UDI is stock with Aldila 100 or 90 g options, and the Srixon ZX Mk II also uses the Recoil dart, but the 90g option. I wonder if this means Caley sees the club as more of a TM DHY than a “players”option, or if they plan on offering more options to serve the middle road more. I can’t seem to find the club on the website anymore to check.
  22. I don’t want to start a confirmation bias theme going, but it’s interesting that we seem to be having similar feelings. I’m having a hard time ignoring the difference in weight as well. It requires a specific intent that’s different from my other irons and hybrid, and it’s easy to mis-time. I was able to get it going well on the range this weekend but my first few after changing clubs always seemed to be a little wild. I hit great (for me) shots when I catch it, but weak push fades when I don’t.
  23. Thanks for the heads up! I definitely didn’t notice that. I have a similar feeling with the lofts, it’s a tough thing. On one hand, I play in the wind enough that higher 7 woods and 4 hybrids can get squirly, but they are nicer in the rough and for holding greens (assuming I could even hit them from that far out). On the other, I’m feel much more confident with the Utility off the tee. It seemed like it would have held greens that are soft—which is definitely the next step for testing.
  24. First Impressions today! Had a small range session and 9 holes today with the DI. The club feels extremely solid considering it’s hollow-bodied. It makes a solid sound with a great inspiring ‘thwack’ that couldn’t be mistaken for a hybrid. Very satisfying. First attempt was a tee shot on a narrow par 4. One of the goals I had for it was to get a second serve club for these types of holes. I’ll try to get some video for y’all. I hit a decent shot just pushed into the right rough, gps had it maybe about 225. Felt good for 7:30 in the morning. I also hit it as my 2nd shot on a par 5. It’s definitely an intimidating club off the turf, but even catching it pretty thin, I still got about 210 out if it and left myself with a good look. Not sure I’d have the same result with a normal 3 iron. The biggest plus is that I’m not afraid to hook it, which has been my nemesis with the hybrid. Excited to get another working session in at the range and grab some numbers. The trajectory is definitely somewhere between a normal 4 iron and my 19* hybrid. Seemed to be flying 5-10 yard shorter than my hybrid which has a longer shaft, but with a more controllable trajectory and none of the dippy hooks that I’m prone to. I sadly manage to get on a rut hitting a bunch of push fades in a row but seemed to work it out after a few balls. Sadly I wasn’t able get good numbers to post here with my prgr because they use the limited flight balls, but I should grab more data on course soon. I did have some trouble getting a feel for it though. I haven’t been able to measure the swing weight, but the overall build weight is very light, (371g) about 55 grams lighter than my 5 iron (426g). I play dynamic gold 120’s, which is not the heaviest shaft available, but I believe on the heavier side of average. The UST Dart looks to be available in 4 weights: 65, 75, 90, and 105: I’m not an expert on fitting/club building, but my guess is that the player looking for a 3 utility iron would be more likely to be fit into the 90 or 105 shafts than the lighter weight options. At the current weight, it doesn’t blend in with my irons as I would have hoped. That said, I’ve never owned a Utility before, so my preferences are not as informed perhaps as people who have spent more time with them. I did notice on the site that Caley build them standard to 39.75 and 18* which is closer to 2i utility loft/ length in the TM UDI (39.75) and Sub70 (40) options. However I couldn’t find the webpage anymore with the specs, so I used @Vegan_Golfer_PNWscreenshot to compare from earlier. Right now, I’m thinking about whether something with a bit more weight would help, but I’m not ready to go out and re-shaft it just yet, especially now that I noticed it’s really more of a 2iron than a 3 for the lofts of my set. Still, based on how nice the club is overall I would love to see other shaft options become available.
