MattL got a reaction from Bobbers in PXG gen 5 driver distance
I just bought a Gen 5 0311XF after being fit at PXG in Fairfax, VA. One of my golf buds went there for a fitting a few weeks ago and purchased one after getting distance gains over his Epic Flash. I decided to go after seeing how much farther he was hitting off the tee, and since was not fit for my Mavrik Max which I bought from Callaway Pre-owned two years ago. I didn’t plan on buying when I went there because when had a driver fitting at Golf Galaxy a year and a half ago, there wasn’t really enough performance gains over the Mavrik Max with the drivers tried so I thought it was going to be the same thing
Thomas Page did the fitting, and he tried both the 0311 and 0311XF in 10.5. Then went to 12 degrees because I needed more spin to keep the ball in the air for more distance. So, after trying the two heads and I think 5 or 6 shaft combinations, I was getting distance gains of 10-15 yards with the UST Helium 4 counterbalanced shaft in regular flex and also smaller dispersion. I would recommend the Gen5 but definitely get fit, it made a big difference having all those shaft options.
Just an update on the driver as of 12/18. I have played three rounds, one 9 hole round at Brambleton, VA and two 18 hole rounds at Raspberry Falls in VA, and I would say that the driver is very accurate in all of the rounds, in fact Friday two days ago I hit 12 of 14 fairways. That is my strength though and usually hit the fairways off the tee, but, the drives were not any farther than what have hit with my Mavrik driver. In fact I think they were shorter so, I will be taking the Mavrik out in the next round to compare with distances and also will be going back to PXG to try both in the simulator to see what might be going on.

MattL got a reaction from GregGarner in Best ball under $40
For the money, I like the Oncore Elixr and the Maxfli Tour CG, they have a similar feel, but think the Oncore ball is a little more resistant to scuffing. Both balls are made by the same company Foremost, so it makes sense they feel similar. I haven’t had enough experience so far with Snell and others to make a comparison comment on them though.
