  1. A 7 wood. I have a large gap between my 5 wood and my 4 hybrid and 4 iron. Need something for 200 yards - experimenting with my 5 wood by adding loft to see if I can close the gap, but that will only take me to 19 degrees. We will see!
  2. I have a Super Stroke grip (Detroit Red Wings) on my Guerin Rife 2 bar hybrid putter, Golf Pride MMC on all others. Recently retired the Ping driver G30 and now have a Titleist TSR3 driver with the stock Golf Pride 360 grip. As you can see, I have used many of the MMC team colors; the 5 and 6 iron is for the Red Wings because they have, count em, 11 Stanley Cup victories, the orange and blue grips on the 9 iron and PW is for the Detroit Tigers - 9 innings and Pitching Wedge (get it!?), 8 iron is green and white for Eastern Michigan University, and I have a few clubs with Maize (Yellow) and Blue for Michigan. Also, the 4 and 7 are Blue and White for the Detroit Lions, nd a couple of irons are blue and red for the Detroit Pistons. I have not mixed up the 9 and the 6 since making them different color grips (apparently the marking on the sole of my Mizuno MP20-MMC irons isn't enough!! On a couple of my other putters I use Ping Cadence TR65 putter and Nike BC 101 not seen are Winn 2020 VSN Medalist Putter Grip, both regular and midsize which is my favorite - still getting used to the Super Stroke - while I like the oversized grip and Red Wings graphics, it is somewhat of a challenge getting it out of my Ping cart bag.
  3. Ping Pioneer bag for my cart bag; White Titleist Players 4 Golf Stand Bag with Flame accents for my carry bag.
  4. This year, I was lucky enough to go to Florida for about 5 weeks (I live in Northern Michigan where the courses generally close late October to early November and don't open until April). Putting and woods are fine; irons are another matter. Fat shots, then mostly thin shots - I took a lesson to have an LPGA pro at Palm Harbor Golf Club in Palm Coast look at my swing. I was casting the club a bit, so holding on to the wrist hinge a bit longer helped, plus practicing knock down shots to get the feel of crisp consistent contact. That helped, and after 10 or so rounds this year I am getting more consistent strikes but am not where I was last year. While I love my irons (Mizuno MP-20 MMCs) that I have had are now since 2021 I am wondering when that part of my game will come back or should I start shopping for game improvement irons?! Right now I am missing my Ping G15s that never gave me any trouble. Thoughts? Tips? Trade in the clubs? Thanks!
  5. Until I lose it. I find that scuffs and marks make no difference to ball flight, and balls are too expensive to be ditching them to the shag bag if there is a minor imperfection. Exception - hitting a tree at speed (off the tee at fairly close range) or the cart path, which can put quite a scar on a ball; otherwise I will use it for the round and if I am lucky, more rounds.
  6. My miss is generally short according to my Garmin stats, so if I am between clubs, more often than not I am taking the longer club.
  7. I go back and forth between my Ping Cadence TR B65 which I would call a mid-sized blade style, and my Guerin Rife 2 bar hybrid mallet which is amazing. Guerin Rife was the most popular putter on the PGA Tour Champions when it came out - still great flat stick. I have Winn Pistol grips on both but am going to try a larger Superstroke grip, NHL version that has the Detroit Red Wings colors and logo all over it to see what I have been missing.
  8. I have purchased Pro-Vs, Bridgestone B series, TaylorMade mint balls averaging around $2.00 per ball including shipping when the new versions are now a bit over $4 per ball. I can't tell the difference between a new ball and the mint used ball except sometimes you might get a logo ball and I don't care. I carry around a 8 handicap and my Scotch Irish heritage prevents me from paying more than twice as much for something when it seems like i can get the same thing for less. I do purchase the Maxfli balls when I buy new as they are fantastic even with the recent bump in price - I generally get two dozen for $60. The only real pain is that to get free shipping you generally have to spend $80 - $90 but I don't mind stocking up for the season. I like the amount of spin I can get around the green with the premium balls, but I am never going to spend $50 a dozen for balls. I have ordered from both LostGolfBalls and FoundGolfBalls with success at both.
