It has been a couple of years now, but I have played it many times. I personally think it is a well-designed course and I highly recommend it. Even though in the desert, I would consider it less "deserty" than many AZ courses, but still far from a parkland type. Things can obviously change since I've played, but the staff always made us feel welcome and happy we were there. Only knock I've ever heard is the driving distance when staying in Phoenix, but that's a non-issue if you are doing the stay & play.
