  1. Just adding... Always preferred no alignment "aids" - line up the head and go! Been using an Odyssey 11s. Decided to treat myself and go back to a blade. Toulon, or a Scotty. Then I saw the black Anser PLD. Always thought the best feeling putter was the milled 8802 from a few years back. This is a whole other level, a few rounds in and wow!
  2. Recently switched back to a blade, PIng Anser PLD from an Odyssey 11s. Both no alignment lines and the Ping in all black looks great. Performance and feel with the Ping are best Ive had. I also have the 2014 Wilson 8802 anniversary, which is naked and only cost around AUD200 when I bought it. I’m a no alignment putter, the other one I have is an Odyssey Metal X Milled 6, also naked and I found that on eBay.
  3. Another rain deluge this weekend, Saturday has become the wettest day of our year! I checked out of the round early this weekend, wasn’t quite there. It did give an opportunity to hit both balls. Driver and the hybrids, not much difference and any rollout will likely improve for the Srixon if we ever dry out ‘down under’. My irons are a little longer with the AVX, most likely because of less height but I struggle to spin AVX. I will have a look for the Maxfli, Ive never considered it and we don’t stock them in our pro shop. Thanks for the suggestion
  4. No, good question. Have hit a few balls in a sim but nothing of consequence. Worth a thought
  5. Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. The break 80 thing was addictive for me! Aged 55 I only picked up a golf club 13 years ago. No real talent, love it, enjoy swapping clubs in/out etc. 80 was the only target. Winter here in Melbourne AU has been wet, Ive been a bit more serious with a few lessons over that time and I have got my handicap down to now 12 mostly by saving shots around the green...chipping and putting. Our Club pro put me on the AVX for consistency when we put the Epic driver in the bag. I'd been using the Z Star, Ive tried every Chrome Soft this year and I gave the TP5 a good run. The softer feel gives better compression, distance is comparable across all apart from the TP5 which was much shorter. The ball flight between AVX and Z Star is not that different for me. Chrome Soft regular is higher and has less run off all shots. The CSX and CSX LS are similar, just harder. Have not tried the Tour Response and I am not brand aligned or price driven in any way. I buy balls at the club etc. The reason I asked the question relates to the comments above, do I sacrifice the feel around the green and pick the ball from the tee (AVX), or do I preference green side and use the Srixon? As the weather improves Im inclined to think it's pick from the green, where there is the biggest difference between these balls. The holy grail comment above is valid, I agree...low spin long clubs and plenty of check on the wedges is not something I see from any one ball. For me I think the Srixon is closest, it just doesn't fly as long and straight as an AVX!!!
  6. I broke 80 for the first time two weeks ago and have done it again since. My handicap is down to 12. Ive been using the AVX and clearly it works but I don’t like the lack of spin around the green. I prefer checking the ball when pitching and as we miss a few greens as mid-handicappers the result off wedges is important. Both balls are great there is not much between them in distance. The Srixon does fly higher. Keen on thoughts on these current versions.
  7. And in an update a few weeks later: I broke 80 today for the first time. So cool Off a 15 handicap, 42 stableford points with 10 x bogeys, 7 pars and a birdie Box ticked!
  8. Sub 80 is the only target I have, hit 80 itself a few times but never under. Golf is 13,000+ steps a couple of times per week, my exercise! I posted because I went through the mechanisations of hybrids, regular shafts because "that's what you do". A junior pro I knew grabbed me and changed my wedges with a chipping tip that was great. I then went to our club pro and we looked at the swing with different clubs. We didn't fit on measurement, we used just results on a range. I'm 6' 4" tall, my miss was left, much less so now and weight of the club may well be attributable. Shorter clubs no doubt add more control, or less can go wrong! A good drive for me is around 240 yds, the hybrid goes around 210 yards and its gapped down from there. Reason for posting...the answers to equipment questions are likely not on these pages, on videos or at the golf shop. Take the time, find a good pro and figure out what works best to minimise the frustration of a hard game. For now this set up works fine and I'm committing to it for the upcoming season. Hopefully it stops raining soon!
  9. Stop tinkering, spend the money on lessons instead! Its been a wet winter in Australia so results wise I am still to see the real benefit but enough good rounds to know I am on track. Lessons, from driver to wedges all clubs now stiff. Irons previously at +1" now at XXIO standard 2 degrees upright - their 12 X irons with steel shafts are something else. I play irons better when that's all I have. The ZX 3 utility is amazing and while I lose 10-20 yds from a 4wood to a 2 hybrid the results are more consistent! Become a great convert to not listening to the "should do this" and actually figuring it out for your own swing. I'm 55, only been playing since age 42 and 13 has been my lowest handicap. Keen to see if I can take it down assuming time allows. Interested in comments knowing that what works for me may not be the same for anyone else.
  10. Thanks and interesting. I play golf in two locations, Melbourne and Tasmania. Different bags so testing balls takes a little longer even if the set ups of the bag are the same. I played rounds and did a bit of practice with the CS, CSX, TP5, TP5X and the. Bridgestone B XS. CSX and TP5X were the better options. I then tried the Srixon Z Star and have stopped testing. It’s longer, better tee to green and does everything I look for around the green. Will see how that goes for the rest of the year and whether the one ball only consistency results proves right.
  11. Thanks, I’m a good club longer with CS and around 20 yards longer with driver. Ive made it hard for myself by preferring a patterned ball, just walking to it and seeing it early before the next shot etc. I know that makes little sense, but golf…. Question I do have is x balls, is that really swing speed related or are us weekend hacks actually better off, or no worse off, playing something like a TP5X? Not sure about swing speed, my driver averages around 240, my 7 iron is my 150 yard club.
  12. Average player, 16 handicap with a driver going around 220 metres. Been playing Chrome Soft Travis but have been trialling TP5 pix. I like the TP5 better around the green but there is a noticeable difference in distance on irons, at least a club. I assume it is added spin but keen to know if others have found similar? The difference is more obvious with the new CS.
  13. Saw the Rick Shiels interview before reading the MGS comment. I am new to MSG, comments like this take away the independence appeal that attracted me in the first place. I understand a crack at 2m subscribers, have also seen the TXG Stealth review and the conclusion it would not be much better than last year's models. Surely as an industry we can do better than regenerating marketing hype? Stealth, in Australia is $300-400 more expensive than last year's models at circa $1,100. Does it have the extra value? What are the real brand value propositions when last year's purchases are discarded as inferior every time these companies promote a new "shiny toy" - golf is one of the worst at this IMO.
  14. Played 9 holes today with the 2022 CS. Have played the CS almost exclusively for the last year, tried the ProV1 but there is no obvious difference to my game and Ive enjoyed the Truvis red/white. The new ball is good, hard to pick up many differences but I thought I saw a lower flight and longer iron distance with balls hitting the back of the green on two par 3s. It may be a touch longer with driver but hard to tell from only a few shots. I pick a ball for putting and chipping. Feel, spin and check was as good as before. The new CS will be on the tee for a comp round this weekend.
  15. LOL and thanks. Hard to see me stop changing. The BB1F is 36", which is throwing me more than I thought. Everything else is 35". I stand at 6ft4. Sight lines are the other changeable!
  16. New here, almost looking for validation. Putter apart my bag is relatively constant and it has no doubt helped get my handicap down even if still a weekend hack! Prefer blades, have tried just about everything. I have a new BB1F, a Spider X, a Nike Method 001 and a rare Odyssey metal x milled 6 with no sight line. All are mint, yet I putt best with the milled 8802. No lines, lovely feel, better distance control and confidence. Yet every 3-4 games I change because its part of the fun! Anyone else do the same?
