  1. I'd normally agree with live and let live, but then you experience people in the real world. Just last weekend I was playing at a nice course ($70-$80 range) and on three occasions the group behind rolls up right behind our carts while my group is on the tee hitting with their music playing at a reasonably loud volume. It was completely rude and disrespectful. Turn the music down while you wait for us to hit and leave or stay back far enough that the music is not a distraction to others. People are just inconsiderate.
  2. When I was younger I used the 85 degree rule: Under 85, I walked and carried, above it and I rode. I've gotten back to walking in the past 18 months as my daughters take up the game but I can't carry anymore. My back gives out after just a few holes with all the elevation change we have here in Western Pennsylvania. It's a lot for my daughters to carry so I have been shopping for used Bag Boy carts for all of us. However in many instances the pace of play is so slow I prefer to take a cart when I am playing with my friends. Being out there for 5 hrs, I like having the comfortable seat and shade in all conditions. I'd be more inclined to walk if people didn't play so slow.
  3. I play Golf Pride Tour Wrap midsize on all my clubs (except my putter) and have for 25+ years. They stay tacky forever and I can't imagine using anything else. I occasionally get tempted by something from Winn or SuperStroke and I try it and end up being disappointed (too soft, too hard, not tacky enough, doesn't handle sweat well). Fortunately I am pretty good at removing and installing grips. I have a Winn Pro 1.32 grip on my putter and I can't imagine replacing it with anything else.
  4. Everything in my bag is safe for the forseeable future. Earlier this year I pulled out and sold my Titleist TSi2 5 wood and 10 yards longer than my old 5 wood. Its a nice club but after more than a year I am nowhere near as consistent with it and since I rely on the 5 wood in trouble situations or teeing off when playing target golf courses, I need consistency. My old Ping G10 is back in the bag to stay. I might consider a newer shaft though. I do have a Tensei Blue sitting around.... One thing is for certain, my Odyssey Two Ball DFX blade with UST frequency filtered shaft is in my bag until I die.
  5. My setup is pretty simple: 50 deg Cleveland CBX Zipcore bent to 49, 54.08 Vokey SM4, Cleveland RTX Zipcore 58 all with Project X shafts. Everything with DG shafts including the wedge shafts from Vokey feel heavy and dead to me so I immediately swap the shaft on any purchase.
  6. I second the recommendation for Under Armor Drive pants. Everything, and I literally mean everything, else feels restrictive. The Under Armor Drive pants move and stretch in all the right ways and are not restrictive at all without being loose and baggy. I wear them everywhere including the office.
  7. I’m sure I’m on the low end by far for someone in his early 50’s but I’ve only owned five sets of irons: 1) Kro Flite muscle back blades from the 1950’s that I learned with - for those who are unfamiliar imagine hitting a club where anything but a perfect center strike feels like you were swinging a rock on the end of a piece of rebar. 2) Spalding Elite Plus - 1979 - a nice thin bladed set that I got from my father 3) Tommy Armour 845s - my first purchase after graduating college and getting a job 4) Acer XDS pro series - I learned amateur clubmaking in the 90’s from a guy at my first job and built this set myself. I played them for 20+ years and my lowest index of 2.8 5) Callaway Apex 21 - my current set which is more appropriate for my age and swing speed now. My fairway woods and especially my driver have turned over much more frequently though.
  8. I've never been a really long hitter but when I was in my mid 30's I could still get into the high 280's or so. At that time, I actually made a hole-in-one on a par 4 for my albatross. It was a 275 yard hole that played straight uphill from the tee with about 70 feet of vertical change. The green was shallow (35 ft) but wide (80 ft) with two long deep bunkers protecting the whole front of the green and not at all visible from either the tee or fairway. Only the top of the flag was visible. The fairway sat at about a 40 degree angle so laying up in the summer could lead to the ball backing down the hill 20-30 yards from where it landed so you might as well go for it and risk the bunker shot. I hit my drive and lost sight of it as it came down near the bunkers. I was looking for it in the bottom of both bunkers initially and had started looking for it to be plugged under the lip when my playing partner found my ball in the hole. It must have hit in the perfect spot between the bunkers and bounced onto the green. It is definitely the favorite of my four aces even though I didn't get to see it go in.
