Last year I had to take a few months off due to a similar issue. Was diagnosed with De Quervain's tenosynovitis. If you are experiencing pain, it is a sign that something is wrong and you need to take time off to properly heal. Playing through pain will only exacerbate the injury and make recovery take even longer. When in doubt think R.I.C.E (rest, ice, compression, elevation) if the problem persists go and see your GP and have them take a look at it.
