  1. Good morning, Spies! I recently posted about a young man from my town that is competing at the Master's Drive, Chip, and Putt competition this morning. For those that are interested, Brock's father shared the following message on FB early this morning. Matt Jernigan is with Kyleigh Jernigan. 5h · Awake at 2:30am, imagine that…. I’m already nervous for my little man, but I’m watching Brock sleep so soundly. I don’t know if he fully grasps the magnitude of what this all means. In about 6 hours we will drive down the famed Magnolia Lane. He will walk in the same places as Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer. He will meet people that have shaped the game of golf and our world. As Mike Tirico said at the banquet last night, all these kids here are already champions. He has worked so hard to get here and he deserves this. This game has taught and given him and me so much. It’s about composure, skill, practice when no one is watching, and so many more life traits. But more than that, it has given us memories that will last a lifetime. From putting on the 18th green at Whispering Oaks Golf Course at 2 years old with a little plastic club to putting on the 18th green at Augusta National. From crying together after losing the Regional in Colorado for the 2nd time to crying tears of joy at that same course when he qualified for the DCP Finals. Someone said last night that Sunday will be the “best day of my life” and man does it truly feel like that is the case, BUT, as a friend of mine says a lot, “the best is still to come”. My prayer for Brock tomorrow isn’t championships, it isn’t a 240 yard drive down the pipe or sinking a putt to win it all, my prayer is that he sees God working in his life. It’s that he sees that hard work really does pay off. He sees that even in the biggest stages, with the most to lose, he can still smile no matter the outcome knowing that golf doesn’t define who he is, God does. So as you wake up in the morning on Sunday, April 7th, please take a second to send up a prayer for my little man. Pray that he can show the ability that God has given him to the best of his ability and for the glory of God. Pray that no matter the outcome that he can enjoy the experience. And at the end of the day, he will know that we are, as my grandad used to say, “so proud”. Dang my grandpa would have been on cloud nine today. Thank you all for all of your support and kind words through all of this. It truly has been overwhelming the amount of support we have seen. Please hear our heart-felt thank you. You don’t know how much it means to us and him. Well here we go. Augusta National, look out, the Jernigan’s are coming! #DriveChipandPutt
  2. Good Friday morning, golfers! A young man from Lebanon, MO is competing at the Master’s Drive, Pitch, and Putt on Sunday. His name is Brock Jernigan and both his parents are educators and coaches in the Lebanon School District. I hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend.
  3. My life outside of golf consists of substitute teaching a couple days each week; spending time with my wife, our 3 kids, and our 10 grandkids; and completing my household chores. Not very often, but occasionally, I will go fly fishing with a couple of buddies.
  4. Several years ago I made a commitment to practice my chipping and putting. I practiced chipping using lob wedge to 9 iron and discovered getting up and down from off the green became more frequent. The same thing with putting; with practice, those knee knocker short putts become easier when you have the confidence that you are going to make a good stroke. Also, my number of 3 putts per round went down significantly. To this day, I still practice putting daily on a mat at home and before rounds.
  5. A couple of months ago, a young man asked me to change the grip on his Scotty Cameron Phantom 11.5 X putter. I was so impressed with this putter that I purchased a used one in excellent condition and sold my SC Select Fastback and TM Spyder X.
  6. Here’s a video I took on Monday evening as storms were approaching. We were under a tornado warning and the storm sirens were going off. IMG_0151.mov
  7. Happy Hump Day, Spies! I get to play PE teacher for the next 3 days
  8. For this old retired golfer, I use a 6 iron to fly the ball 150 yards.
  9. I was the first golfer off yesterday morning and enjoyed a nice morning on the golf course. I shot 75 with 3 birdies, 6 bogies, and 9 pars.
  10. Congratulations to the testers. I use an Alphard Club Booster V2 electric cart and it really makes walking easier. I prefer to operate the unit with the remote control instead of the follow-me accessory, so I am curious to read your opinions.
  11. Good morning, golfers! Nasty storms rolled through our area during the night. Our phone weather alerts went off 3 times during the night with tornado warnings. I haven't heard of any verified tornados yet, but there were 70+ mph winds reported. The lightning light show was amazing as the storm approached from the west. I hope everyone has a great day. @Preeway condolences for your family.
  12. I much prefer to play early. I like to get my round in and have the rest of the day to accomplish chores or honey-do's. Another advantage to playing early is the course is less busy and the pace of play is good....usually don't have to wait to hit a shot. The only disadvantage to playing early at my course is some of the greens may be wet. Our greens mowers have a different pattern than mowing 1 through 18 in order.
  13. Happy Monday, golfers! I hope everyone had an enjoyable Easter weekend. I was the first one off this morning at 7:30 and had a very enjoyable round.
  14. I have been a walker for years and have saved lots of $ by not paying a cart fee. At first I carried a stand bag; next I had a 2 wheel pull cart; and then went with a 3 wheel push cart. This past summer my wife bought me an Alphard Club Booster V2 electric cart as a retirement present and it makes walking even easier. I always carry snacks and water to traverse the 6+ mile trek around our course. And as many have mentioned already, comfortable shoes for walking are a must. I have a pair of waterproof trail running shoes that are very comfortable.
  15. Good Friday morning, fellow strikers of the white pearl!
  16. Positive thoughts and prayers headed your way. I wish you and your wife a speedy recovery.
  17. Good Thursday morning, Spies! I had a very enjoyable round of golf with grandson #2 yesterday. Happy Birthday @Preeway!
  18. My wife and I have one episode left in Season 5 of Fargo.
  19. Welcome to the forum and nice clubs! I happen to love wedges and I carry 4 counting the PW.
  20. Good Wednesday morning! Golf with grandson #2 today. It is currently 29°, but supposed to be in the low 50's this afternoon.
  21. Hello Luisddavila, The only course we have here in Lebanon, MO is GreatLife Golf and Fitness. It is not a great course, but it is also not a goat ranch. There are several good courses at Lake of the Ozarks; a nice course in Marshfield called Whispering Oaks; a decent course in Buffalo called Dream Valley; and a good course in Bolivar called Silo Ridge. Springfield has several nice courses as well. I hope you enjoy your vacation.
  22. Congratulations to the testers. I look forward to your reviews.
