  1. The forum testing is different because you announce that testers have been selected and we can read their reviews. I was just reinforcing the point made by another member—the individual who signs up through the pop up gets no indication that he has received the benefit promised. I would hope that MGS would welcome this feedback about how its actions are perceived.
  2. No, if MGS published a list, or just announced that the drawing had taken place, I would not call it shady because then I’d have some assurance that the drawing I was promised a chance in had actually happened. I don’t expect to win, but I’d like to know that MGS is holding up their end of the bargain. Why should I have to request a list from MGS? Won’t they just say it’s proprietary like everything else? Glad my feedback provided you a laugh.
  3. I agree. The lack of transparency makes me think it’s just a ploy to get email addresses and improve their numbers for advertising purposes.
  4. PXG published some new data regarding their golf ball. Using one club more and swinging 1 mph faster results in approximately 2000 fewer rpm’s. Titleist balls have similar results (but the old data was the 2021 ball; new data is 2023 ball). Old data is above. Here’s the new:
  5. Gardening and landscaping. I’ve spent the last several years tearing out a bunch of old overgrown landscaping, replacing it with native plants, and growing prairie flowers from seed. There is something calming about watching the animals and insects the plants attract.
  6. I went HL in my 3 wood as well (although it’s a Callaway Rogue Max). I hit it every bit as far as my old 3 wood, but with a higher trajectory and more forgiveness. Definitely a club more people should consider.
  7. I think it fits with the pure distance vibe Cobra is going for, at least with its woods. If nothing else, Woodland hits the ball far. After reading what Ping had to do to create a set of one length irons for Bryson and some of the comments Bryson made about the clubs Cobra built for him, I don’t know why any company would sign him.
  8. Yeah, it was a joke. I was trying to say something just as ridiculous as the thought of Rickie Fowler as a Wilson guy.
  9. Ricky has been with Wilson forever. We are talking about Ricky Barnes, right? What other Ricky/Rickie is there?
  10. The testing opportunities sparked my interest. I joined because I wanted to ask questions about equipment, and I keep coming back because the discussions (equipment or otherwise) have been way better than I could have reasonably expected.
  11. Based on the header at the top, that looks like it’s the Heroes Program pricing. It’s not available to everyone.
  12. I think driver prices and technology gimmicks had been trending up before PXG came along. In the late 90s you could get a steel- or graphite-shafted steel-headed driver for $150-200. Then came titanium heads for $300-400, but there were still a bunch of good options in the $200 range. By 2010, adjustable drivers had appeared, the steel shaft was dead, and $300-400 was the new $200. Now carbon fiber has shown up and pushed the price higher, but there are still some good lower-priced options (until a new material shows up and relegates carbon fiber to the bargain bin).
  13. Cobra’s website has some good deals as well on the LTDx ($220 or so) and Radspeed ($170) fairway woods plus 10% off if you sign up for email. www.cobragolf.com
  14. Thanks! (And sorry I overlooked your post. I tried to quote everyone who mentioned BT headphones, but I was scrolling quickly)
  15. Which BT headphones do you guys use? Most I’ve tried don’t fit my ears (AirPods and the like)
  16. I used to hate all technology on the course, especially cell phones and even rangefinders (real golfers step off their distances from the yardage poles and guess the yardages to the pin based on flag color, I’d say). I’m not an anti-technology guy; I just didn’t want to see it on the course. As technology slowly crept into other aspects of life, I learned to coexist with it on the course (and use it because yardage markers seem to have gone by the wayside). Music doesn’t bother me now, but then again, nobody in my group has played U2, so I can’t say it will never bother me.
  17. I think this is generally a good strategy, but if PXG had done that, would it be a PXG product? Doesn’t seem consistent with their style.
  18. At the risk of sounding clueless, what is a DECADE strategy?
  19. I’ve never been a bomber. Over the years, I have relied mostly on my ability to hit fairways and I had no problem hitting 3 wood off every tee. Several years ago, I realized that if I wanted to get better, I was going to have to learn to hit driver consistently because I was giving up too much distance. I have gone from hitting a reliable fade to a less-reliable draw, but I make up for it with the shorter clubs I now hit into greens (technology has helped as well). I have also tried to develop a stock iron shot, but found I am better (and happier) when I allow myself to play with whatever swing I brought to the course that day. In sum, I’m longer, less accurate, and more flexible in my shot selection than I used to be.
  20. A Ping G20 driver I bought out of desperation when I was struggling with my driving. It was my first Ping non-putter and I haven’t strayed from Ping drivers since.
  21. I think there’s an argument that the rise of DTC brands has contributed to the increase in price by raising the floor of driver prices. Major OEMs need to price their clubs high enough so they can discount a previous year’s model and still be above the price of what they want us to believe is an inferior product.
  22. If I’m at my best, I’m a feel player from 50 yards and in—no swing thoughts, just see shot, hit shot. That’s mostly how I learned to play. I got in trouble when I tried to adopt the Pelz distance wedge system. I started lasering all the distances and tried to pair the shots with a backswing length. Eventually, the only shot I had was a decelerating wedge followed by a lot of swearing.
  23. Is it just the driver sales or are club sales down across the board? I’m inclined to think that people just have less money to spend on golf now that everything else is more expensive. And if faced with the choice, a golfer will give up new equipment for a year or two or ten in favor of spending that money on “necessities” (greens fees and golf balls). No matter how good a club is, it’s worthless if you are not playing.
  24. Do you use their glove holder between rounds? I have packaging from an old glove that I use to store mine, but something nicer seems like a good investment.
  25. Kirkland solely for price. I don’t think they are as durable as other gloves, and I’d like to try the Red Rooster gloves, but they serve my purposes pretty well.
