  1. Nice job! You only need a shaft puller for graphite shafts. If you want to pull your steel shafts, just give it a little heat, the epoxy will loosen up and you can pull it no problem. I use a Benzomatic Chef’s Torch. Little butane torch is a must for a club builder. Also, hosel brushes for your drill help get the old epoxy out of the hosel. Finding a good swing weight scale is a challenging, but well worth it.
  2. KBS Tour 120. Fits me perfectly. I have gamed just about everything from S300, 400, X100, PX, Rifle, Modus3, C-Taper, S-Taper, and a few graphite options. The Tour 120 is perfect for my swing.
  3. The irons are the heart of your whole set. If you were using an old mixed set, a matching set of irons is a must. And you can hit most of the shots you need green side with your PW and 9-iron. Then I would suggest getting fit for a proper set of wedges. Grind and bounce are as important as it gets in all of golf. If you don’t have access to a fitter, every OEM has a “fitting tool” which can get you in the ballpark, based on just a couple of questions. A) your swing, (steep or shallow), B) Playing conditions (hard pan Arizona, or softer East coast) and C) Types of shots you want to hit. Vokey’s was right on the money for me. Best of luck! New grips are a must!
  4. And when you do cut, make sure to take into account the length of the cap of your grip. Or, you can end up +1/8”-1/4” club lengths. If you want to be exact. Just trying to think of all the little things I learned (the hard way mostly, DAMN NORWEGIAN Heritage!) through the years. Can’t wait to see the finished result!
  5. Cut after. And, when you are installing the shafts, it helps to have a bunch of precut 4” pieces of dry paper towel ready. If you wipe off the excess epoxy right away, you won’t have any clean up, or minimal, at the end. If you use small one use pieces, then you won’t accidentally get wet epoxy everywhere when cleaning the next club.
  6. Taylormade won’t cover that crack. They will say the ONLY way that the bottom Carbon will crack is by smashing your club on the ground. Been there with them. If it was the crown or the face, and a newer model, they would replace it.
  7. I have a cloth wheel on one side of my bench grinder. But, you can do it by hand with a nice lint-free cloth and a light amount of acetone. It takes a little practice, but if you throw it in a vice (with a shaft clamp) and put the cloth on either side and use the same motion as shining shoes, you can accomplish the turning. The acetone will soften the plastic, so you don’t need much. Just keep working it to you get the profile right and the finish how you want. I would suggest a practice/test first. You can clean up old ferrules the same way.
  8. Tips: it’s all in the prep. Acetone to clean the shaft tip and the inside of the hosel before you apply the epoxy, mix the epoxy correctly and adequately, and don’t use too much! It’s addictive! I’ve been building clubs for 20 years. I too love colorful ferrules and grips. I’ve done a lot of sets with Iomic and Pure grips. I get a lot of requests for Red, White, and Blue. And in some KBS Custom Series white shafts…Merica!
  9. I hook the hell out of Hybrids. I love them, love the idea of them, and if you get along with them, by all means, put as many hybrids in the bag as you can! Gapping is everything at the top of your bag (whole bag really)! But, high lofted 5 woods, or a 7-wood is a must try if you hook hybrids, or they just don’t fit your eye. I went 46/52/58 in my wedges, ditched my 21* hybrid and added an 18* and 21* FW and never looked back.
  10. He asked, I’ve fit hundreds, and it’s all part of being on these threads. “Go get fit” is the stock answer of course, but might as well not even have these threads if “go get fit” is the only answer. I get it, but I’ve dealt with a lot of fitters who don’t have half the knowledge or experience that lots of people on here do. And, some people either don’t have the time, resources, or availability of a truly qualified professional. But that being said, if you have one available, go see a professional fitter, not some guy at a box store.
  11. I would suggest a Graphite Design Tour AD DI-95 or HY-105. Your current setup has (I’m guessing without putting it on a scale) a drastically different swing weight than your current irons. Graphite Design almost created this category. The IZ-95 is an awesome selection as well.
  12. My wife bought me a Tag Hauer golf watch for our anniversary. Coolest freaking golf GPS watch I’ve ever seen.
  13. Shogun on Hulu is pretty good. Very accurate historically. But my wife and I started Modern Family from the very beginning. Funniest show with the best writing ever. Comedic gold.
