Last round of the season w/ Dad as he went back to FL this week. Started bogey-bogey-triple bogey and I thought it was going to be a rough day, but I focused the rest of the way to finish 45-40 for a respectable score. 10/14 FW, 5/18 gir, 32 putts.

170y par 3 12th I hit a 5i that came up 18" short of my 1st hole in one. 18th hole par 4 playing 275y I crushed my drive to about 25y away and converted the chip and putt for a 2nd birdie on the day. Lots of good to take away. Not as consistent as I'd like, but it's hard to play once a week and stay sharp.

48-42 for a +19 90. 3 putted the final 2 holes and 2 others on the front 9. The greens were running fast in my defense.

Only playing once a week lately I think I've lost some scoring touch. I mashed my drives. Hit 11/14 fairways, but it's hard to break 90 with 38 putts.

Tough day, trouble off the tee all day and soggy conditions got aggravating. Played better on the back 9, at least kept it in play. Still didn't score well, 48-45.

... Not sure why @GaDawgand @cnosil are laughing because the Bears got a 2nd and 6th round pick for a guy that only had 6 sacks in one game while the entire Bears defense has 2 sacks in FOUR games.  Seems like a pretty good trade. 🙈🙉🙊

He started as a Raider, you know, the only organization more dysfunctional than the Chicago Bears. At least they got good return on him when they ditched him. Hey Justin Fields threw 4 TD before choking today...that's progress.

Had 2 double bogeys in the 1st 4 holes. Later I 3 putted from 18' to turn a birdie chance to bogey on #9. Finished with 4 straight bogeys missing makeable putts on 2 of them.

I still scored well considering. I played great for a 10 hole stretch from #5-14 (-5 net even with the lapse in concentration on the 3 putt on #9) mixed emotions about this round. The conditions were soggy and the greens were slow and bumpy. Scoring any lower would have been surprising, but with how I struck the ball and scrambled I definitely could have.

Lots of positives, but a few silly errors kept this from being the round I check off some personal goals.

3 putted the 1st par 3 I came to to turn birdie into bogey. Got a double bogey via the sand trap on the 2nd par 3 I played.

Still managed a respectable score in spite of only making an 8' putt for par and no others outside 5'.

  7. A slight pushback against people saying 4 hr. The topic specifies "when it is packed" I think 4 hr or anything less is a stretch of the imagination or perhaps I have a different perspective of "packed" living in one of the most densely populated areas of the US.

I notice any time I play with someone who is pushing my pace, or if I'm playing with my Dad and he falls behind the other 2 in our group, the guys I play with who get around fastest never fix a ball mark. Never replace a divot. Leave broken tees sticking out of the tee box. Putt in front of me out of turn while I'm lining mine up.

So playing with or in a group immediately behind those people, I will tend to fix more than just my ball mark on a green. Replace mine and their divots in the fairway. Pull their tees out of the tee box and throw them aside before I put mine in. Have to line up my putts multiple times because of a ball rolling or feet walking through my sight line.

There is a clear reason my average round might take 20 minutes more than theirs. They are jerks.

  8. I had a 5 hr 15 min round Tuesday. Completely threw off my scoring even though I struck the ball well all day.

Something I noticed is the self-fulfilling nature of everyone being resigned to it being "a slow day" next thing you know people are waiting at the tee box "We'll let them get ahead a bit so we don't run into them" now the group behind is running into you.

At this course the 1/2 way house is situated between hole 8, 10 and 12. Ill-advised. I watched multiple groups make 3 pit stops. One left their balls on the green and went to get beers on 12. Just 4 balls, no people on a green for a long wait I'm staring at 165y in off a perfect drive. The group on 12th green were behind the people on 8th tee and 10th tee in line for beers. A guy in my group was riding, drove up and screamed at the guy buying beers to putt his ball. "There's nowhere to go" the guy replied. The 13th tee is down a hill 150y away through trees. How about you drive down there and see, either way don't leave your ball sitting for 10 minutes. Putt your putts and go wait at the next tee. Maybe play ready golf. These idiots were at a packed public course playing a 2 v. 2 better ball or some format other than stroke play I couldn't tell, but it was a lot of 3 people standing/sitting around while 1 hit a shot, then the whole group traveling to the next spot and 3 of them sitting there while 1 chunks it into the woods.

Thought I'd swim around the kiddie pool at this nicely kept executive course. Turned into a rough day at the office. The kiddie course kicked my butt.

Couldn't hit my driver to save my life. "Long drive" was a 2i from the tee on a hole with a creek protecting the green and the end of the fairway about 210y. That was the only fairway I hit. I'm glad I wasn't at a course that required 13 or 14 swings with the driver 😅

I want to make sure we post Will's best round. I know he mentioned technical difficulties/user error early on with the "VCT Match Play score" button.

    Staggered round 18 today.

This score is posted wrong, I think you put your net score to par (1) in the spot for gross strokes over par.

Golf Pride MCC midsize on the woods and wedges

Lamkin UTx midsize on the irons

    Garsen MAX on the putter

The Garsen Max is very intriguing to me if I bail on the SS counter balance idea.

Excluding the putter, I have one grip model on all other clubs:  Lamkin Crossline Gray 360 grip. On my lofted wedges, they are built-up under the lower hand to give me a "plus-4" profile; on all other clubs, they are installed over one layer of build-up tape under the double-sided grip tape.

This is very similar to where I imagine I will end up after my clubs get regripped. My 48° came from sub70 with an MCC plus 4 and I like it. I think one will go on my PW as well. I Like the crossline 360 on my 4h, I can imagine those going on my iron set.

I'm still deciding if I like the sandpaper-ish feel of the Utx cords or the grip from the 360 pattern.
