What Have You Bought Lately? (CHA - Club Ho's Anonymous)
richk9holes replied to hckymeyer's topic in The Daily
My short game has been horrible enough the past few weeks and months, I've canned the idea of having 2 drivers and a gap between my 45° pw and 52° Pre-owned with a 20% discount but it says "new" 48° Sub70 286 black and I threw in a tan leather belt to get the free shipping. -

And a hat review. "Free hat, free hat, free hat!!!" -
Date 08/11/2023 Course Name Gambler Ridge Golf Club Gross Score 82 Course Handicap 10 Gross Strokes over/under par 11 Net Score to Par 1 Net Score 72 Net Birdies or better 3 Longest Drive 285 Long drive of the season today for me on #15. It built up, 220 on #8, 230 on #10, 245 on #12, 250 on #13, Birdied the par 3 14th and I walked up to the 15th tee glowing like an Anime hero. I missed the tree on the left by inches and a monstrous fade floated out towards the right side of the fairway. One of my playing partners whistled at me. Short game was lacking. 3x 3 putt in the 1st 4 holes and had mucked wedge shots from 35y and 15y. I use too much loft on these shots I think in the future I'll use my set PW to attempt low to the ground and run as opposed to the up and down and stop shots I've been failing to execute.

Date 08/09/2023 Course Name Bey Lea GC Gross Score 85 Course Handicap 10 Gross Strokes over/under par 14 Net Score to Par 4 Net Score 75 Net Birdies or better 2 Longest Drive 270 11/14 FW! 9/18 gir 35 putts Felt like I turned a corner on this round. Got zero luck and carded a snowman on #15 but kept my head down and plodded my way to a mid 80s score. I started using a strong grip on shots with Dr-3w-2i and the results are showing. I have never hit a draw into a dogleg left up until this week, but I've figured out how to do it.

MyGolfSpy 2023 Golf Ball Test!!!
richk9holes replied to GolfSpy SAM's topic in Golf Balls/Shafts/Grips
"Ball Sommelier" is right up there with "Ball Whisperer" as far as titles go. -
Wedges, specifically Sub70 JB wedges. My current 52° sm8 and 56° Jaws full toe have about 80-90 rounds played at this point. I also think 50 - 56° would gap better to my set PW at 45° Considering a JB 50° and a JB FG 56° both in the Raw finish.

Date 08/05/2023 Course Name Pine Brook GC Gross Score 84 Course Handicap 12 Gross Strokes over/under par 23 Net Score to Par 11 Net Score 72 Net Birdies or better 3 Longest Drive 230 I believe yesterday I reached a crescendo of suck that I hope is the end of that period in my golfing experience. 2/6 FW 7/18 GIR 43! Putts! Yes, 43 putts including a personal record 7x 3 putt. 11 strokes worse than my best score at this course, and about 10 strokes worse in putting compared to my season average. If I had brought just my average putting I could have scored a number I felt good about. But I couldn't read greens at all.

Date 08/04/2023 Course Name Cranbury GC Gross Score 92 Course Handicap 11 Gross Strokes over/under par 21 Net Score to Par 10 Net Score 81 Net Birdies or better 2 Longest Drive 265 Slow pace of play contributed to a high score here. Kept the ball in play throughout until a pull off the tee on the par 3 #14 with a 4h. Only lost that 1 ball. 5/12 FW 3/18 GIR 34 putts. Hit one perfect drive, with a gallery of people at the turn on the par 5 #10. Proceeded to walk up to 220y into the green and hooked my 3w under a tree. Punched out beautifully with my 2i, but the ball rolled over the hole and off the back of the green to leave me short sided. That sort of day.

Date 07/31/2023 Course Name Spring Meadow Golf Course Gross Score 92 Course Handicap 12 Gross Strokes over/under par 20 Net Score to Par 8 Net Score 80 Net Birdies or better 2 Longest Drive 235 Played with Dad, walking a course I find to be a long walk. One other in our group was playing blue tees, so I joined him. 6200y is a good challenge for me. Ultimately this day it got the better of me 8/13 FW 5/18 GIR 39 putts lost 3 OB.

what is the proper pace of play when it's packed?
richk9holes replied to Rockerdude's topic in Breaking News and Debate
I recently had a slow round where we played through multiple groups who were nice enough to let us go ahead, but were really bogging down the pace in places. One group included multiple young kids. Another was 2 older ladies who looked to be just learning. A third group was a pair of men/woman who seemed be on a date. My group of 3 got around in 4 hours 40 minutes or so, meaning the group with the kids probably only played 9 holes but any group that paid for 18 who went out after me likely didn't finish in the daylight and took close to 5 hours. This course is setup red/gold tees ~4900 white tees ~5700 blues ~6100 So not the longest course, but in my opinion not the proper place to bring kids under 10 or people who are just learning. Many times if 2 people are tethered to each other in a cart and taking a long time it's bc one of them is coaching the other, who is too new to be on the course. -
That's the kicker, $200 plus sales tax and then I'd want to spend the $75-125 for a putter fitting and have it adjusted if needed. Mostly, I just don't need a new putter. I went back today to make sure it didn't say "proto" under the price tag, it didn't. They now have a Odyssey white hot og 7s stroke lab as well, but it looks like it's shorter than standard. Also a nice old red TM spider mini for $110 in great condition. Did I mention I don't need a new putter?

Hole #15 at Princeton CC, white tees forward playing 265y we commented on the tee I could reach if I hit a good one. I did hit a good one, but what I didn't account for was my ball sinking into the soft just rained on ground about 2" and popping forward a foot. Also didn't plan on no fairway on this hole by the green. There was a fairway back by the 150y marker if I had hit 5i off the tee. Instead I banged one dead center 235y carry and had 30y left with an awkward lie. Only managed bogey from here after a poor wedge shot to the fringe and a 3 putt from off the green.

Date 07/30/2023 Course Name Princeton CC Gross Score 86 Course Handicap 12 Gross Strokes over/under par 16 Net Score to Par 4 Net Score 74 Net Birdies or better 4 Longest Drive 245 Started strong but didn't have any luck, trees stopped a couple beautiful shots I probably shouldn't have tried to hit. +7 on the front with 5 pars, 2 bogeys, a double and a triple bogey. Missed every fairway on the back 9. Aside from a triple on #17 I scrambled well on the back 2 pars, 6 bogeys from some crazy spots off the fairway, in other fairways, etc.

I don't need a new putter. I don't need a new putter. There's a L.A.B. Mezz.1 in DSG, pre-owned $199. I inquired because the price tag says "Callaway Reva Fairway" I thought it was mis-labeled but the employee confirmed the price is right, they re-used a different price tag or couldn't figure out how to change the product description on the label. It's really tempting me.

What Have You Bought Lately? (CHA - Club Ho's Anonymous)
richk9holes replied to hckymeyer's topic in The Daily
Bought a dozen Uther Pro Icon balls at DSG, 25% off brought them to $30 a dozen. I had been thinking about how during the testing for Oncore Elixir I set numerous personal bests while using fresh balls. The past 5-10 rounds have been with balls from my shag collection: TM tp5, TA titanium, superhot, superfast, tour speed, AVX, slazenger raw distance, maxfli X cg, e12, e9, and a bunch of others. The running theme was I was hitting someone else's ball that they already hit in the woods. Today I hit the ball great and shot 80 using the fresh supply. Anecdotal yes, but also empirical. -
Date 07/24/2023 Course Name Bey Lea GC Gross Score 80 Course Handicap 9 Gross Strokes over/under par 9 Net Score to Par 0 Net Score 71 Net Birdies or better 4 Longest Drive 245 I've never played so well and felt so negative about it. I hit almost every fairway, the worst miss behind trees I hit a 9i over the trees to 15' for a look at birdie. I missed that and the other 9 birdie chances I saw from 5-25' plus an eagle from the fringe that rolled over the left edge. I went around the track doing everything I wanted it seemed, but the short game came up short.

To make a really long story really short, I went into the 18th hole knowing I needed a 4 to break 80 for the first time and I psyched myself into a bogey for 40-40 80. Personal best for the course, 11/14 fw hit or just off, 10/18 gir. Averaged about 230y from the tee with Driver and I hit a preponderance of good shots. That's the positives. Had multiple idiot moments with wedge in my hand (18th hole i was 28y away after my drive scored a 5) and multiple 3 putts (one on each side) led to 36 putts. I had a round recently where I had 28 putts. Had I brought that side of my brain today I would have posted a great number. Instead I missed an eagle and 3 birdies on the right edge, 2 pars on the left edge and another just short. As bad as the stats have been, I committed to this putter for the season so I will keep working with it. Next time I play will be an early arrival and some drills on the putting green. Also devoted to using my mat in my house every day until I start sinking some.

I had faith Cam Smith could go b2b, but in reality that's so hard. For the record, I prefer the format of pick 6, count 4. I didn't realize we were counting all 5 for this one, my team wouldn't have been so young. -
Date 07/23/2023 Course Name Old Orchard CC/Colonial Terrace Gross Score 85 Course Handicap 11 Gross Strokes over/under par 14 Net Score to Par 3 Net Score 74 Net Birdies or better 4 Longest Drive 235 Special Event Cobra 4-Club Challenge + Putter Attempt #2 with 4 clubs + putter. 9 holes Saturday evening at Colonial Terrace played the blue tees because the distances matched better for the par 3s with what I brought. Dr-4h-8i-52° Brought the same clubs yesterday to Old Orchard CC and played the front 9 Lots of good moments, but I felt like I was missing the tools I needed out there for both the rounds I tried leaving 9 clubs at home. If I had my wedges I could've scored much better. I don't have the wizardry to command 1 wedge to do what I would normally accomplish with 3. I'm a little better at manufacturing shots with an iron, so using just the 8i was easier to adjust to hooding the face and hitting it closer to 6i distance or swinging slower and getting a 9i distance from it. Carrying just the 4h at the top was the easiest adjustment. I could probably ditch my 3w and carry more wedges.

I wasn't sure if I'd get a round in, so I avoided partnering with the competitors, but I did get 18 holes in for the 4 club challenge. Brought Dr-4h-8i-52°-P I rode 9 holes yesterday and walked 9 today. Managed 42-43 for net +3. -

Or they got the stock photo wrong. It's possible they'll ship you an Apex 4h like the listing says. -
