Moraga.Mike's Achievements

  1. Arccos sensors and bundle pack just arrived. Can’t wait to get them out on the course! next on the wish list is a 7w, which I think will replace my 3-hybrid. Besides a better shot shape, i also own a 4-hybrid and the gapping is only ~15 yards plus i occasionally hit my 4h farther…
  2. Did you get fitted for this shaft? For someone that has bought clubs both fitted and unfitted, would think a fitting would be a necessity for a shaft.
  3. A 5-handicap friend recommended Josh Kelly at the Pleasant Hill, CA Golf Galaxy to me for a lesson. He didn’t explain why Josh was so good or how he taught but I trusted my friend enough to give it a shot. It took months to finally book an appointment, but I went to my first this week not knowing what to expect. We started chatting about my game, thoughts on my swings, goals for the lessons etc and then I took some indoor shots with my 7i which I assume were to establish a base on their TrackMan. I was then surprised that I was to be fitted with dots/markers that allowed us to see my body as a CGI (using Gears) that he could compare to my other swings or even professional golfers. It was pretty cool seeing myself as a computer graphic that could measure every angle of my body and swing. For some background, I’ve had approximately a dozen lessons on the range with the most recent working on extending my (right-handed) swing follow through and finishing with my hands high while getting good hip rotation to clear the way for my arms. I had been working on that for 4-6 weeks and thought Josh would take that and try to help me better execute that one thing/swing goal. However, Josh listened to me and then said “we’re actually going to be more thorough than that and we’re going to see your whole swing and body mechanics and go from there”. I wasn’t sure if that was good or bad frankly, but after 3 swings Josh had diagnosed that I had a huge left tilt in my pelvis (left side lower than right) that was the exact opposite of what I should have (in attached photo the right pic would be the incorrect swing i had previously). He compared me to a couple pro golfers to show me the difference, and it was immediately clear I had been working on hip rotation but exacerbating a problem of not coming in shallow enough. It also solved my puzzle of why my hips were hurting more after playing, basically all my hip mechanics were off. I was amazed. I think I could have had another 100 range lessons and this wouldn’t have been identified! He prescribed me a new address, complete with less-bent knees and a right tilt plus he gave me some drills to do at home (e.g. wall drills to practice rotating hips). I’m also working on this swing with only a 56 degree wedge hitting 40-50yd shots. It’s amazing that I’m getting more hip flexion and clearance with much less actual hip movement than i was doing before. I naively thought i needed my hips very active to generate power but doing it correctly and efficiently is a million times easier, smoother, and more powerful. After my lesson I immediately bought a package of 6 lessons and look forward to the next in 2 weeks. It is still early in the process, but I couldn’t be more excited about using Gears and TrackMan to help me improve as a golfer! The proof will be in the results, but look forward to updating with further results!
