Tomorrow I’m playing in the Southeast Georgia Senior Inter Club match at Trident Lakes golf club in Kingsland, GA.  The golf course is on the King’s Bay Naval base just north of the Florida border.  It is one of the bases that house nuclear submarines.
So, to prepare I played a practice round at my home course this morning from the Senior Tees instead of my normal Blue tees, and used my 3 wood to tee off on every hole except for the par 3s and #9.
Got to hit it 14 times today.
Here is an example of one of my drives:

My 3 wood is a Cobra LTDx 15 degree set at +1.5 and it has been my favorite club in the bag for the past two years.  It is the best fairway wood I’ve ever had and I was pretty nervous about changing shafts on this club.
By the end of the day I had a big smile on my face.  I felt like I couldn’t miss a fairway.
Only used it for one approach shot today:

Shot a very stress free 70 today.  35 on the front and 35 on the back.  3 birdies, one bogey and the rest pars.
The TPT Power Range 17 HI shaft is so stable.  I have a great feeling of control with it.  The shaft has quickly instilled enormous confidence in me.
My favorite club is even better now than before!

I’ve been very pleased with the aiming aspect of my F-3 , most of the putts off line have been operator error 😂

Got out to play today, and it was a tale of two nines. Front nine, I had zero three putts and, in general, rolled the ball pretty well. I lost it on the back nine, mostly in my ability to judge speed. In part, this was a contributing factor:

Balls were bouncing on the green, and the speed was very inconsistent.
First hole, I had this look for birdie:

The practice green had been rolling fairly quick, so I putted accordingly. It was not quick. Thankfully, made my par, but this was a preview of the speed struggles I would have the rest of the day.
Back nine, I three-putted six times (!!!). A few of those, I had absolutely massive first putts (70ish feet), so I don’t feel too bad about those. I did miss a few short ones where my line was slightly off. I did make some good putts, though, including this five footer to save par:

The other thing I was curious about was how the head cover would fit in a cart bag. It does not fit well, but looks great!

Shot Scope thinks I missed about 60 percent of my putts short, but I took notes this time (and yes, @cnosil, I am going to adjust it on the dashboard). On the front nine, of my eight missed putts, only two were short. The long ones were typically within a couple of feet. Back nine, was all over the place, but only left a couple short.
So far, the Array is meeting the benchmarks I’ve set; strokes gained, not today, but I think that was more me (and the course condition) than anything else. I’ll test that hypothesis on the course hopefully sooner than later!

Been thinking about putting a stability shaft on my putter. Wish I could say I hit perfectly center on every putt and these graphite putter shafts seem to really seem to help with minimizing dispersion when miss hit and who doesn’t want that.

Not apples to apples, but I really like the Odyssey stroke lab shafts for similar reasons.

Because it’s your money, I say go for it! And let us know how it works out 😜

I was part of the Odyssey Ai-ONE test and was quite impressed with off center performance…distance was similar regardless of where on the face the ball was struck.  Compared it to other putters I had around and the Odyssey performed much better.

Definitely post some comparison numbers to show if it does or doesn't help with off center dispersion.

Informed my Mizuno JPX 923 Forged irons have shipped and should arrive this week. Can't wait to use them.
Also trying to figure out what I will do for wedges. The gap wedge in the Mizuno set is 49 degrees. I currently have a 56 degree SW, but thinking maybe it is time to do a wedge fitting and figure out if I should go 52, 56, 60 or 54 58.
And also trying to decide what I'll be doing at the other end of the bag. I have a new driver and then my irons. I'm thinking maybe a 5 wood and a 4 hybrid. I'm not sure it is worth carrying a 3 wood but that may help reaching par 5s and also be a nice alternative off the tee on tighter holes.

My scramble yesterday did not go as planned. I was the new guy in my group, so they had me putting first. I was burning edges all day, but didn't make one putt. One of the guys in my group did comment on how I hit the ball where I was aiming every time, which reaffirmed the feeling I had on my Friday round. It was just one of those days where you feel like your hitting good putts, but nothing is dropping. Such is golf.

I was able to get out to the range today hitting directly into a 20 to 30 mph wind. Despite the wind exaggerating anything you do dispersion was still pretty good with all 3. I also snuck in a quick trackman session at the end of the day to try and compare to my current shafts. Some how my dumb self forgot the hybrid shaft. But with the 5 wood and both my other driver shafts the overall #s are similar but TPT’s had better dispersion.

This is helping with some of my skepticism already - I saw only 5 shafts with no flex options, and immediately thought it wasn't enough. But, if they can build things like + options on those shafts (and maybe other tweaks), it expands the offering a bit. I guess I'll find out in a couple days...

    Thanks. That makes sense.
I can normally get through 3 rounds without a problem. Our course isn't particularly bad when it comes to lost balls, but I've also been better at playing smart golf and not trying the high risk shots I used to when I was younger.

Good job on the round. Same ball through 3 rounds is great! The markings were determined to be batch/plant #s I believe,  as I had them very visible on the Bridgestone balls as well.

Got out for another 9 holes today in better conditions, and shot 2 over par which is 3 under my handicap for that 9. It could have been level par if my putting was better as I missed a couple more makeable birdie putts. Today was the first day I feel like I really played well enough to see the performance of the ball, as it was light wind and mostly rain free apart from a few light patches. I've yet to lose a ball over the 36 holes I've played to date which has been good to see wear and tear on the ball. I had some full wedges with the ball and it has a few scuffs although it's not unplayable or excessive, but it may not match some of the more durable balls. I should be able to verify this during my durability testing.
Today was dryer than previously so I had a good opportunity to check out the spin. Had a full PW which came back about 5 yards, a little more than I expected given we had our greens cored 3 weeks ago, and we've had rain on the day. They were fairly predictable, I hit a 3/4 9 iron to control the spin on the next hole and it spun back about a foot which is what I'd expect on our greens.
You can see the marks on the ball here just above the red line

Didn't notice this until I took the photos but there is an A W O on the ball. Does anyone know why?

Another bit of the wear and tear. The wear looks fairly obvious here because it's zoomed in, but most of them aren't that visible to the naked eye.

Today I made the 2+ hour drive from my house to Larry Hamilton Golf (https://larryhamiltongolf.com/) in Rochester, MI to get fit for my Terra Forza shaft.  Before describing the fitting process I want to say how much I enjoyed working with Larry.  He was warm, welcoming, patient and informative -- everything you'd want in a fitter or coach.  Thanks, Larry!
Information about Terra Forza and their approach to shaft fitting can be found here:  https://terraforzagolf.com/.  Essentially, the fitting is based on each golfer's individual interaction with the ground ("ground reaction forces") during the swing.  Using information gained through a pair of pressure plates (see photo below -- sorry about my shadow) and an app, a proprietary algorithm determines the most likely fit for a given golfer.  As Terra Forza says, "After some trial and error, we were able to create a line of golf shafts that matched a golfer's pressure trace and pressure data. Our patented algorithm allows us to recognize those traces, along with all of the pressure data coming from the TF Pressure Plates, and objectively determine the proper shaft for any golfer."  As I understood it, TF assesses primarily vertical force during the swing.

This as a view of what the fitter sees (stock photo from TF website).

After warming up (I used 8 iron and Driver), Larry had me stand on the pressure plates and hit several shots with my current driver (Ping G425 Max in standard 10.5° and neutral back weight position) and shaft (stock Ping Alta CB 55 • R).  Data was collected using Trackman while hitting Titelist ProV1 RCT balls.  After discarding a couple of outliers, the algorithm determined that the place to start was with the Green spec shaft (from the TF website: "As the smoothest shaft in the Terra Forza range, this shaft allows golfers with the easiest of transitions to optimize their club head speed while being able to control their trace. Mass: 49g. Torque: 5.8º. Pressure Trace: Linear.")  This shaft is slightly lighter overall than my current shaft, and a bit softer in the tip.
The Green shaft was inserted into my driver head and I took a number of swings with it but not while on the pressure plates.  Trackman results showed an increase in carry and total of about 10+ yards over my usual set up, and with a better dispersion pattern.  At this point, Larry suggested I try another shaft.  His thinking was that while the Green shaft was a good fit in most areas, the tip was possibly a bit too soft.  The TF algorithm had a recommendation of Green+ (stiffer tip) but that configuration wasn't available in the shop.
The alternate shaft was the Orange spec (again from TF: "Designed for a player with a more linear trace, this shaft allows the player with a larger lateral movement to control their launch. This shaft also caters to the player who has a stronger transition than green.  Mass: 57g. Torque: 4.7º. Pressure Trace: Lateral"). It was put into my G425 head and the process repeated.  This shaft resulted in slightly shorter carry/total numbers (2-3 yds.) than with the Green but a significant improvement in dispersion over the Green.
Larry and Colin (TF President) will review the data and decide which shaft -- Green+ or Orange -- will make a better fit for me.  In either case, I am pretty stoked to get it out on the course when it arrives!

I think the armlock is different from the other anchor methods to the core of your body. Those gave a fixed point to pendulum from. I view the armlock the same as different grip styles like the saw, or oversized grips. It’s all just a method to try and take the hands out of the stroke but you still have to move the torso and arms to move the putter.

Played today with our Men’s group.  If y’all are watching the Masters then you already know it is pretty windy today in Georgia.
Despite the wind I had a good round. 38/38.  Three birdies.  One of which held up for a skin.  Got Low gross and a close up.  Also won $17 in our 6/6/6 game.  Total winnings today = $47.
    These shafts are paying off!
From Arccos a picture of the 7th hole. 230 yards to carry the bunkers from the blue tees.  One of my better drives today.

Good point.  I saw a related video to the above talking about how Arnie had trouble with speed control on his longer/lag putts due to his wristy stroke.  Maybe, maybe not.  There's a lot involved with sussing out the right speed on a 35 footer, down hill the first half then uphill the second, with a bit of turn at the end.  To your point about the yips, I say "yeps".  I have them and even though I went to a broomstick I still sweat those 4 and 5 footers.  Its between the ears mostly, but I have noticed the nerves are breaking down too.  They say getting old is tough, wear a helmet.  Do you think I'd look odd wearing one with my weekly group? 😆
