Very intrigued by this new feature. One of my biggest problems is losing focus on any given shot.

What is the source of that chart? Someone just making it up?

Lou Stagner, Data Analyst at Arccos (@LouStagnerGolf) publish something similar recently, but it was more detailed, and broken down by percentages, not months/years. I’m guessing someone took his work, applied some low number for number of rounds per year , like maybe 20 or 30 rounds, and inaccurately extrapolated real data to something wholly unbelievable.
I’m a 10 handicap. Shot a 75 last week, a 70 2 months ago, and a 66 (personal best) 2 years ago. But I play 200-220 rounds a year, so the frequency of having a very good round will occur more often in a year, than someone who plays 20 rounds a year.

Reed all about it reacted to Aric Marquardt in Why is golf so expensive?
I think the comments that say golf being expensive is all relative are lazy. It is so easy to say, well its expensive to you and not expensive to me. Its lazy and offers zero substance. If you buy old clubs, you don't get fit, if you buy used balls, chances are you are never going to play your best. I fully understand that buying old clubs can work and for some people starting the game. It did for me.
New clubs and equipment is not ALL about speed. What the marketing teams do at these large companies is market speed because it equates to distance. No one ever talks about dispersion or consistency. If I have a brand new driver that is $629.99 like most 2023 drivers are and I have a off the rack Taylormade M2 for $129.99, there is a massive difference there. But with the NEW most forgiving driver your dispersion is now a 30 foot circle instead of a 60 foot circle. You buy new every single time and twice on Sunday. Do you not want to play your best golf? Do you not want to shoot lower scores? Buying new equipment is expensive, its expensive in every aspect of the game. From getting fit, being fit into an upgraded shaft, the actual purchase of the club, getting lesson, greens fees, initiation fees, other club fees, handicap fees, everything in the game has a price. Whether you make one million a year or 50k a year. My hope would be as the game grows as rapid as it is, is that people want to play and be the best golfer they can.
Some areas of the country are better than others to keep the costs down on greens fees. But with the growth of the game since covid tee times are at a premium, some golf courses can charge whatever they need to and or want to because people will still come and play.
Golf is expensive, it is one of the most expensive sports to start playing and also try play competitively. If you want to take your kid out to learn the game, it is very difficult to do at a public course and not piss people off all around you. You can start on the range but they ultimately will want to actually start playing holes. That is where a membership is beneficial. I would like to know how many of the amateur or junior golfers grew up playing private clubs and who was grinding in the garage crushing balls into a net because greens fees or range balls are at a high price. 60 range balls can be $12+ for water logged rocks.
Golf is expensive, golf is hard, golf is as mind-numbing game that seeks perfection that can never be reached. Play your best, spend your money, have fun, and remember hit them straight.

I dont know that I have ever used a ball long enough to see it get worn just from play. I am also not a great compressor of the golf ball so i dont think im putting a whole lot of stress on them. Much like a lot of people, I have balls for days the swing is just not working, and balls for when im really feeling it.
I dont really feel the subtle differences in balls anyways. So I play a ball until I lose it. If it takes a really bad scuff on the cart path i may replace it.

That is the same exact feeling i had. The author clearly takes some things way too seriously. Only about 5-6 of the 30 were truly passive aggressive things that i have never heard and was shocked that someone would actually say that. Most of these are contextual and totally fine if its with a person you play with regularly. The rest i think are actually common practice and completely fine.
For instance if im playing on my home course with a visitor playing there for the first time, If they hit a tee shot that looks like its going into the woods, but i know its not, I will tell them it opens up over there and that they will be safe. I am not there to be your swing coach or mental coach to help you feel better about the swing you just put on the ball, but i do want to reassure you that the result is not as bad as you think.

On the rare occasion that a ball makes it through an 18-hole round, I will "retire" it out of respect.

Otherwise, when it is lost or scuffed.

Absolutely. Seeing PGA vs LIV playing out in the final pairing on Sunday was certainly intriguing. It would be hard to believe it never crossed Rahm's and Koepka's minds.

Koepka is so uniquely built for this circumstance. He has always been able to switch that majors switch in his head. Now he will theoretically stay healthier and rested coming into them all.

I was curious to follow up on this @Reed all about it, this isn't pretty by any stretch, but kind of panned out along the lines of our thinking.

Including WDs, 6 missed the cut vs 12 making it.  3 finished in the top 15, albeit as we know all 3 were in the top 5.

    Interesting stuff from Major #1!

Koepka, Cam Smith, Neimann, DJ would be my best bets to be those 4. I just have no idea how any of them are playing anymore. Even if you look up stats, its hard to figure how the team style translates back to the grind that is a major.

    Good Morrow,
My name is Micah. I have been lurking in the shadows for a few years at MGS. I only recently discovered the forum side and immediately knew i needed to dive into this community. Very excited to make everyone's virtual acquaintances. Easy going golfer. I try to take my game seriously, and that's about it. I respect the etiquettes but love the general direction golf is going trying to be more relaxed and fun.
How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?
I have been on the course for 14 years now. I started playing my senior year in high school cus my best friend suggested it (I also suggest it. Free golf and lessons at least 5 days a week). Grabbed a box set of Maxflis at the local Dicks Sporting goods and never looked back. Played those Maxfli Blacks into the ground. Swapped the irons for tour edge 5 years ago, then moved to PXG sticks in 2020. Upgraded the maxfli driver to a used taylormade r5 from play it again sports in 2016 or so. Then to a tour edge exotic in 2019, finally to the PXG gen5 in 2022. Cleveland wedges replaced my OGs in 2017. The maxfli mallet putter was the last piece to be replaced. 2022 with a PXG gunboat. Only one i keep in the garage for sentimental reasons. We missed a lot of putts together. Made a few too. I made 1 start that season (senior night) but it was some of the most fun I had in all my years of organized sports. I hacked my way around local courses for the next 9-10 years. Mostly keeping score by +- golf balls and how many beers i could pack into 18 holes. At some point i decided i wanted to try and get better. Started tracking my handicap in 2020 when i was a 26. I am now down to 21.4. Broke 100 for the first time in 2022 and have been knocking on 90s door so far this season.
What do you love about golf?
There are not a lot of feelings better than a pure strike that sends that little white ball off like a rocket soaring right at your target line. That feeling is a high i am constantly chasing on the course. I also love that golf is constantly challenging you. My wife often asks how i don't get bored playing the same course over and over. Well its never ever the same. It is a new chess match each and every time. Enjoying a gorgeous day with a group of friends and some beers. Scrambles. In my opinion is the best way to play golf. A competitive scramble is the most fun i have on the course.  What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?
I honestly cant remember what first brought me. Probably just an article i saw online and enjoyed. I am not aware of any other spies.
Where are you from? What is your home course?
Originally from Fredericksburg, VA. High School course was Lee's Hill. Spent a lot of time at Meadows Farms too. If its public near Fredericksburg, i have probably played it. Now I am in Charlottesville, VA and play out of Spring Creek Golf Club.
What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?
Best: Early Fall golf. September is my perfect golf month. The courses are still green and lush from the summer. The weather is perfect. You start to see the colors in the trees. The days are still long enough for 18 after work.
Worst: Cold weather golf. Am i still gonna be out there? Of course. Am i gonna enjoy it? As much as i can. Nothing worse than thinning a long iron with cold hands.
What do you do for a living?
I explore and try new things with my wife. Places, food, breweries, experiences, courses (that ones for me), etc. Enjoy time with our 2 dogs (Kuzy and Porter. both German Shepherds). I try to play as many sports as i can. Golf, Soccer, and Volleyball currently dominate my time. Rabble rouse, and make merry with friends. Recently started brewing beer.
As for what i do for money to maintain my living - GIS Analyst for the government.

It is much better on the range. A course i used to play had the practice green so close to the range, when it was slow I could walk over and hit actual chips and putt out.

Slowly getting all the pieces of practice gear together in the garage. I use an old welcome mat and hit my old set of clubs. Simulate playing 18 holes. Aim, practice swing, one hit. Base my next clubs selection on the feel of the shot since i do not have a launch monitor. Finish each 'hole' hitting 5 clean chips in a row. Need to get a putting practice mat to go along with it as well.
