Nate Wagner's Achievements

  1. Broke 80 for the second time today! Shot a 78, even with playing the last three holes at 4 over. Put a tee shot into the woods on a long par 5 that always haunts me... I need to just hit 4 iron off the tee there to keep it short of the woods, but it's a tough shot. Need to develop comfort with playing around par... it still freaks me out... lol.
  2. Hey Everyone in the Mid-Atlantic! I'm Nate Wagner, new to the forum, and excited to share and learn from other golf enthusiasts! How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I've been playing golf since 2020 (like many others!) My handicap is 14, I usually shoot mid to high 80s. What do you love about golf? I love being outside and flushing an iron. The sounds are also some of the best of any sport I've played. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I watch the YouTube videos and have recently wanted to get deeper into the golfing community and like the feel of MGS. Hoping to get to know some people and maybe play some rounds with people on here. Where are you from? What is your home course? I'm from Denver, CO originally, now living in Northern Virginia. The course I play the most often is Langston Golf Course and East Potomac in DC. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Best things about golf here is that many winters allow you to play throughout the year (like this winter). Worst thing is the price and crowds. What do you do for a living? I'm a Pastor at a small church. How’d you pick your user name? It's just my name!
  3. I'm gaming the mavrik irons right now and agree they are incredibly forgiving. Some times, they are a bit hot off the face though if you hit it flush... but that's probably the case for most clubs. You can get the mavrik irons for a good deal on callaway pre-owned site... I've gotten several clubs from that site and I'm always amazed at the quality of the pre-owned clubs I receive, hard to believe that they were used before!
  4. I recently made some major swing changes that jumped my club head speed up from 95-100 to 110-116. I'm still fairly new to golf and was using a Taylormade RBZ Black driver with a regular flex shaft. I noticed that I was having *more* trouble with club face control with the increase in swing speeds and was also seeing a jump in spin numbers with average moving above 3200... not ideal. So, I did some YouTube research, lol, and switched to a stiff flex shaft, not wanting to go x-stiff. I will say that I seem to have gained more control over my club face with the increased stiffness and the ball isn't going quite as high and spinny, but I'd like to launch it even lower, or at least be able to. All that to say, I think that I put more stock in changing shaft flexes than is actually the case, and for me it comes more down to feel. It feels more in control and doesn't require to think as much about the timing of my swing (this could just be psychological). I also now have stiff flex shafts all through my bag so I like the consistency of having the same feel up and down the bag. The regular flex shaft was a stock shaft that tailor-made provided. My new shaft is a project x HZRDS that comes in the Mavrik drivers.
  5. So much of my practice right now is in trying to keep the ball low with all my clubs through the bag... I launch it high, which is great in light wind conditions, but even a 15-20 mph wind is about 3 clubs of difference for me
  6. I just played Westwood late last year, really enjoyed it. I'll have to look into River Bend!
  7. I have only gone driver putter a couple of times, I have a couple of short par 4s on my local courses, one is 280 and one is 295 or so... every now and then I get luck and find the green... and proceed to 3 putt
  8. How much wind were you playing in?
  9. Do golfers from UK typically play more match play than US golfers?
  10. Got to play a fun round at east Potomac with a good friend. It's cherry blossom season in Washington DC and this course is right in the thick of the cherry blossom mania. It was great to get away from the crowds on the sidewalks and walk 18 while admiring the blossoms, Washington monument, and Jefferson memorial. I barely broke 90 so it was a pretty average day for me... lots of bogies with a couple of doubles and 5 pars. I'll take it for this early in the season.
