PXG Gen 7 Irons - 2024 Forum Review

I have the major marker! It's a pretty nice marker but rather big to be useful on the course. I used it for one of the photos for my final review post. -

That's incredible! What was your average distance with your current 7 iron? -

Final Review has been posted! This test has been a true joy! Thank you to MGS and PXG for giving me the opportunity to test these clubs and provide feedback to the forum. I hope everyone enjoyed my post and review. This has certainly been a learning experience for me. Thank you to the other testers for all your feedback and input over the past 2+ months. I'm planning on doing a spec check with PXG in a month or two and plan to keep posting to this forum as time passes. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask! Thank you! -
I have a lot of respect for PXG. They fully support our military servicemembers, veterans, first responders, and now teachers through their Heroes program. What's not to like about giving these people first access to new releases and discounts on everything they sell. Plus the performance of their clubs are top notch! I think they can be a little over the top with their marketing, sometimes. I believe their claims about the PXG golf balls have been a bit exaggerated and their apparel line is way too expensive, even with the heroes discount.

Yesterday, I was able to get back out to Torrey Pines South and we were able to just barely get all 18 in. The day started off rough! finished the first hole with a demoralizing 10, followed by a triple bogey on #2. It took me a while to find my grove. The weather was cloudy but thankfully, there wasn't fog like last time. Was able to get a nice shot from the tee box for hole #3. Pulled out the 7 iron which I hit short and to the right. Followed that with a nice GW, first shot that felt good in the round. The 2 putt for a single. Moving on to hole #5, I wasnt feeling the driver so opted to play it safe with the 3W. Went right and a little short. Opted to give the 7I a try since it was a club I haven't used too often. Had a pretty good hit that went 140 yards but didn't quiet get me to where I wanted to be. Followed that with a SW that had some nice height but landed short, in the green side bunker. Another SW shot to get on the green for a 2 putt. Hole 7 was probably my best all around hole of the day. Started off with a 225 yard drive which I was happy with. Followed that with a 177 yard 5I, landing just short of the green. I usually play with the idea that my worst putt would be better than my best chip so I putted onto the green then 2 putt for a single bogey. My iron game was feeling better throughout the day and I was finding some success with my driver. My wedge game was off for most of the round. Hole 9 started with a rough drive but 2 5I that I was happy with, going 178 and 160 yards. The LW went long and right, followed by a miss hit SW and 3 putt. Hole 12 featured the drive of the day, 245 yards down the left side of the fairway. Had a rare miss with my 5I that went right and short. Not really use to hitting frpm the fairway! Then followed with a SW that went short and into the bunker. Another SW to get out and 2 putt to finish. Hole 13 featured a nice 234 yard drive that went right and my longest 5i of the day, going 191 yards! See, I prefer hitting out of the rough! I followed that with a topped GW and then a better GW to get me on the green. The next 5 holes were a sprint to the finish. The groups in front of us were dropping like flies and we were determined to get them in. By 16, we were moving at a good pace and running from green to tee box with first up being the first to make it and swing. Lost a ball on 18 simply because we couldn't see the ball after about 100 yards in the air. Even though I started off very rough, it was a fun day on the course. I'll leave you with this photo of a paraglider flying over the 4th green. -

Getting back or to Torrey Pines South tomorrow for a twilight round. Doubt I'll get in all 18 but souls hopefully get in 16. Here's hoping for a fast round! -
I bought a foam roller and it has helped! I don't think I was using it properly at first but I've got a good routine now. I'm doing most of what's in the video and will incorporate more. An article I read provided some misguidance that I think made it worse but once I figured that out, things got better. The article I read said to roll and hold on the pain area which was on my knee joint. Then the pain got worse and I read that I shouldn't roll on joints. Once I stopped rolling on my knee, it got better.

It was a gloomy day at Torrey Pines South. The fog was thick at times and sometimes let up, but was always around. It didn't make for it's typical picturesque self but was still a good time. Overall, my day was a bit of a mixed bag. My 5 iron was my friend most of the time and my driver was my mortal enemy! I was able to get comfortable with the SW which led to some great shots from within about 50 yards, as well as some not so great. But that was more me than the club. (I'm a sucker for black and white photography) On hole 7, I started off with a crummy 172 yard drive that went right which is where 80% of my drives end up. I didn't hate where I was and felt a solid 160/170 yard 5 iron would get me back in play. Right now, I'm feeling pretty confident in my 5 iron. Little did I know that I'd hit the longest 5 iron shot I've ever hit! It cleared the fairway going 196 yards! It also went a little left which is an unusual middle for me. Followed that shot with a weak 8 iron that landed just short of the green. Two holes later, I find myself on hole 9, a par 5. Again, I'm off to a start on the right side with a 203 yard drive. Feeling confident in my 5 iron, I take it out and hit a tree for a short 52 yard shot. The shot felt good, just misjudged the tree. So I kept my 5 iron in my hand and followed it with a 188 yard Pl last to get me back into the fairway. Followed that with a PW that fell short but a wonderful 22 yard SW out of the bunker for a 2 putt double bogey. I felt like I wasnt far from par. If my first 5 iron didn't find the tree and my PW would've been a little more solid, I could've been there. These Black Op irons are really boosting my confidence. On to hole 12, a par 4. I've mostly given up on my driver so I pulled out my 3 wood. A little closer to the fairway this time but not very long. Again, I'm really clicking with my 5 iron (maybe next time I should leave the woods in the bag off the tee). I pull it out feeling confident and knock it 176 yards into the center of the fairway, 80 yards from the center of the green. 80 yards is where I feel pretty good with my GW do I pull it out. Goes a little short but I'm mostly happy with the result. Now, onto 13 which is a fun but challenging hole. This was on approach on the famous hole 13. Going with the 3 wood again off the tee. I had two decent 5i's, one landing short of the drop and the second landing safely to the right of the bunkers. I was hoping for a nice SW onto the green but skulled it 72 yards just over the back bunker. Then followed up with a crummy SW then a nice chip with the SW to get me within a couple of feet for a 1 putt double bogey. On hole 14, I decided to pull out the driver again which was a mistake. Went back to my trusty 5 iron and just clipped a branch on what felt like an incredible shot. Had no concerns walking over to my ball with the 5 iron again. This one felt just as good, going 180 yards and getting me back onto the fairway. Here I felt a little nervous though my confidence in my SW was growing. The pin was in a tricky spot, in the back right corner with a green side bunker protecting the front and a drop down a hill on the back. I could've played it safe and gone for the middle of the green but too the aggressive approach going straight for it. The shot was perfect and when the ball landed on the green it stuck, with a little back spin. Everyone in the group let out a collective whoa! These are most of my highlights from the round with the Black Ops irons. They're not disappointing so far and my confidence grows every time I'm on the course. This round, i really tried to focus on using the SW within 60 yards and it didn't disappoint. I was a bit cautious at the start since I wasnt as comfortable with it but by the end of the round, I have no concern using it. And here's the photo from earlier in color for those who aren't fans of black and white. Haha -
