While the margins are huge in apparel and shoes, the Tiger line has always struggled to sell at elevated full prices. on the other hand, the Jordan golf shoes have been successful and enfranchised their younger pros and Covid market. Seems hard to believe that Nike would walk on that, but i was shocked as a manager in the golf industry when Nike bailed before. Maybe Nike will forego green grass accounts , that were always problematic to service.

timely topic: i just switched irons so thought i would gap test through set and up through hybrids/utility iron and down through wedges. all had graphite stiff shafts (don’t call myself Old Joe for nothing). here’s the wedge shocker: bridgestone j33 58 degree not only more consistent than 50 Hogan and 51 Edel…BUT LONGER. Ended up with nice 10 yard gap from 45 degree from my JDM forged irons to 58. Strange but true. Sure will make my carry bag lighter and eliminate any indecision!

Have JDM Dunlap New Breed cavity back. Sold Honma TW727 irons. The Takomo 101’s definitely had better turf interaction, with wider sole that was beveled on both the leading and trailing edges. The sole also tapers toward the heel, which helps out of rough. Net: superior turf interaction is Takomo’s secret sauce. As review wrote, the sound/feel is forged like across more of the face than blades.

Great insights. Thanks. I had a set of 101s. Will be interested when you get enough experience with the 101T set to assess dispersion. My issue with the 101 was offset lead to some big misses left. I also caught a few huge flyers with the short irons; inexplicable from the fairway. You are sure right about the sole size and shaping. Takomo deserves a lot of credit for attention to this detail that makes a big difference on the course, especially for us diggers

I’m an iconoclast when it comes to iron and wedge brands: last year had Takomo 101 steel reg in the bag with Edel 50 and Wilson Staff forged 56 and 60 wedges, all with steel stiff. This year switched back to old Dunlap JDM New Breed blades with excellent Tour graphite stiff shafts. Put in Mizuno Pro 225 52 and Cleveland CBX also in stiff graphite.

Because of wet conditions and heavy bermuda rough this time of year in coastal South Carolina, will sometimes have to add a low bounce 60 for wet sand or deep rough to more bounce 57. As i age, sometimes choose between old school lofted 47 degree PW and 52 Gap W.

Not exactly surprising that a club with the most onerous history of exclusion (no show biz folks, Jews, Italians, people of color needed to apply or try to walk through the front door or one the course until recently) would limit access to the general population.

I lived in LA for a couple of decades. With SoCal traffic, choice comes down to what part of LA you live. Riviera, Brentwood, Bel-Air, Wilshire, Hillcrest and LACC are all high buy in options. I belonged to Palos Verdes CC, which is reasonable, beautiful and excellent George Thomas test on Bel Air level. Nearby Rolling Hills has been redone, opened up and a little pricier, I think. I never liked the vibe or shifting grounds of Trump or Mountain Gate. A lot depends on age in terms of price and somewhat to do with subjective criteria of each club.

Would like to know how many have beaten my longevity record: aceless for 69 years. Started playing at 4, playing full rounds to qualify for legit acedom at 10 (so that reduces longevity to 63 years?), single digit handicap from 13 to 73 years OLD (separate category for incompetent competence of 60 years?). Other subcategory: number of double eagles without an ace (am i leader in clubhouse with 2?). great subject. cheers to my fellow futile flingers of fallow fortune.

Biggest influence is in choice of balls: New, non-refurbished, high ranking quality metrics. Even more refinement for which launch and spin variations suit wind and green conditions (ProV1 vs X vs AVX, TP5 vs X). MGS has provided an invaluable service to golfers of all levels.

Timely question for me. Went back to Japanese blades with old style lofts. So PW at 48 took 50 degree GW out of bag. The risk/reward of either of my forged LWs (Honma or Wilson Staff) make it discretionary at most. Therefore, going out tomorrow with 2 wedges. PW and 56/10 SW.

after great success with a 17 degree Callaway UW (a more hybrid shaped 4 fairway wood with hot enough face to replace 3wood), i recently acquired a 19 degree UW cut down an inch to hybrid length. fits perfectly between lower flighted fairway metal and 4 iron, offering higher apex and steeper descent due to shorter shaft, but more forgiving than hybrid or driving iron (which i had to give up as swing speed declined).

Congrats to the testers from a 101 user. Love the look and feel but looking forward to the testers results, as mine have been disappointing statistically

Good description: always gets in the air like hybrid, but hot face makes distance = to fairway metal of same loft (or more if honest about average taking into account bad misses with fairway woods). Also don’t find that i have to worry about the wide left hybrid miss.

Was advised by friend of a pre-owned Callaway UW 19 in perfect shape at local Edwin Watts. Bought it to compliment my beloved UW 17 with same Hazardous RDX Stiff shaft. But UW19 cut down an inch, so now i have, essentially, a 4 and 6 fairway metal that perfectly gaps between driver and 4 iron. Traded even for an old putter, 3 wood, and driving iron that i’m too slow to use anymore.
