How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?
I'm currently a 5 handicap. I was a 2 at my best, but didn't play as much for years when my kids were young. I'm ball-striking better then any point in my life right now. I just need to sharpen up my short game this spring to get back to 2 or better. I love that I have the opportunity to play my best in my 50s.
I've been playing for 45 years, starting when i was about 7 years old. It was cool. I was walking along with my dad while he played one evening and a stranger popped out of the hedges behund the teebox and handed me a golf bag of kid-sized sticks. He said, "this is a great game. Learn to play. All I ask is that you return them when you outgrow this set, so I can give them to another kid." I've loved the game ever since.
What do you love about golf?
I love that golf is an unattainable quest. There is no finish line. There is no perfect, just the pursuit of it. I love that golf can be you against other players, but that it's mostly just you against the course.
What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?
I don't know any other spies yet. I really enjoy the forum, mostly that it often offers good reviews of equipment without bias towards the big OEMs.
Where are you from? What is your home course?
I live in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. I like to play a few different courses in the immediate area--Wild Ridge, Lake Wissota, Whispering Pines, and Hickory Hills.
What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?
The length of winter used to be a big negative to me living and playing in the midwest. I've come to embrace it over the years, though. I now use the winter months to work on my game on a simulator, take a golf trip somewhere nice in January or February, and then I'm ready to play my best when spring finally comes to Wisconsin. The "off-season" actually helps me play better than if we had year-round golf. I also like that we have fantastic courses in the state, many of them also a great bargain.
What do you do for a living?
I'm the Planning & Supply Chain Manager for a die manufacturer.
How’d you pick your user name?
It's just a user name that I've used a lot over the years. No story there.
