  1. Some people just don’t want to be fit because it will mess with their mindset too much; you sound like that kind of person. You and I just see things differently related to the putting stroke and fitting based on our experiences.
  2. I read what you wrote; Perhaps it is what appears to be sarcasm that is creating my confusion. Not trying to put words in you mouth, just expressing my understanding/misunderstanding of what you are saying. That is how discussions work and perhaps you past criticisms of MGS approaches have caused me to read more into your statements than you intended
  3. didn’t stop at the first sentence. You disagree with the fact that the ball matters; which is fine and in not so many words said information was a waste, Essentially the point of Tony’s comments were related to the original post that said the 2000 and 2019 balls were basically the same based on a launch monitor test; which doesn’t measure the correct things to make that statement. Neither of the posts were about who should care; which is what your posts are discussing.
  4. I get what you are saying, but regardless of how good or bad a golfer is, some people like to learn and understand the details of clubs, balls, and other equipment. Others are happy just hitting whatever. MGS is basically about trying to dig into those details and identifying differences and people agree and disagree with the findings. I personally enjoyed the educational aspect of what Tony posted; will it sway me in any direction or improve my handicap? Simple answer is no.
  5. Nope. Swingweight and speed are not really connected and will vary based on all the components used. I have read that D5 is a good SW for a driver, but that may not work for you.
  6. I have gone through several fittings and had my stroke measured on Puttlab a few times and as part of most wanted testing evaluate a large variety of putters. I will start off by saying I have a little different opinion on putter fitting than you seem to have; I believe the putter can make a difference in putting performance. I learned a lot about putting from Bruce Rearick who has done extensive research on putting and how putters influence the putting stroke. you seem to fall into the approach that you adapt yourself to the putter. Basically given a putter you will figure out how to use it effectively which in many cases will require some kind of manipulation to control distance and or start line. your statement about feel and balance seems to indicate that you believe that the putter can make a difference and that a fitting is needed. This is the approach that is based on the thought that each person has a natural stroke and that we should find a putter that moves properly through the stroke to achieve good distance and start line control. The benefit of this is that under pressure the person isn’t relying on stroke compensations. When I test a lot of different putter configurations (hosel, offset, weight, CoG) i find that the performance of each putter can vary considerably. Some don’t rotate as much so I miss right, others rotate too much so I miss left, and others make it difficult to control tempo so I struggle with distance. Some players say they are “feel” players but that is something that is foreign to me. Feel in my mind comes from repeating mechanics to build knowledge. That knowledge is feel and gives me the ability to repeat the stroke for a condition. Kind of like throwing a ball; we build feel on how far a ball will go when we throw it by repeatedly throwing it. If I give you a ball that is very light or very heavy and you have no experience you try to adapt based on past experiences. If a person is truly a 100% feel player I should be able to put a ball down on any green give them a distance and they should be able to roll it that far without any practice. I personally think people confuse feel with experience. Players also may not want to get their stroke measured and know the mechanics that they use because of how their brain would process that information. I believe all players fall somewhere between 100% feel and 100%mechanical with few if any being on the extremes. you mention the “fundamentals of putting;” curious what you consider to be the fundamentals. Eyes over the ball? Neutral ball position and path? Shoulder stroke? Square setup? I ask because if we look at people that are considered to be great putters they all accomplish putting differently with different setups, strokes, and putters .
  7. I think every professional player has basically the same skill level to hit a golf ball and after going through and learning about the DECADE program believe that it is the mental side of the game that separates players. Those who commit to the right decisions over 72 holes are the most successful golfers. Tiger is the leader regarding the mental game. I’d add most of the players that follow the DECADE strategies to the letter …Bryson, zalatoris, Morikawa, Brooks, etc. you can also see that eliminating emotion helps older players; Cink is a prime example. Players that can avoid emotion decisions will continue to rise to the top. I follow Scott Fawcett on Twitter and each week he mentions some of the players on the various tours that have gone through the DECADE program; they seem to be very successful
  8. Pretty good day on the course today. Driver was the weak link in todays round. 43/38:81 7 FW, 11 GIR, 36 Putts. Two doubles on the front and a few bad drives were the low points of the round. In general hit the ball really well and hoping that this is the new trend.
  9. Don't know what I scored; had a couple of bad holes on the back so probably low 80s; Had a 39 on the front. Played the Gold course at the Golden Horseshoe. Was a couple up most of the day until I fell apart on the back 9. Was as much as 3 up during the round and was 1 up with 3 to play; ended up losing 2 dn to Harry. Harry had a bad day, but I won't complain as we played straight up and from the same tees. Even got a couple of cameos on Nodwells Daily Dinger instagram story.
  10. The reemergence of a second driver/strong three wood in the pro ranks has a specific purpose. Pros generally work their driver in one direction; the second drivers purpose is to move the ball the other direction. Ultimately do what works for you; if you hit 3 wood better than driver then by all means hit the 3 wood.
  11. Not that surprising, bu I wish he would have tested the seam alignment as that was a big deal with the original. Horizontal seam for spin and vertical for distance.
  12. Sounds like you have some interesting stuff and that you really want to unload the entire collection at once. I also saw that you posted about collectable bags. many things a collected by people and the challenge is finding the person that collects what you have. Not knowing the entire collection you have but based on what you described, you should easily recoup you $100 investment. What it will take is time, you need to identify, catalog, price, list, and ship product to buyers. Shipping costs will significantly cut into you “profits”. I would suggest you go to local golf stores that deal with used equipment; with a list of what you have, and see if they know of any local buyers.
  13. MGS doesn't really test blades like the Z-Forged and the ZX7 are generally considered a players iron. Yes, the categories are very blurred; for example the ZX4 will be in SGI.

    Why

Things in our swing change. The key is figuring out how to deal with heels and toes and make the swing functional. This is how Adam Young teaches.....teach yourself to be able to hit the toe, hit the heel, and hit the center. When you get on a streak of heel hits, learn how to adapt to hit the toe.
  15. The question that really needs to be answered is what is forgiveness for these tests. Is is more accurate in that the dispersion pattern was the best. It probably isn't what most people think which is how does it perform on mishits.
  16. My wife and I have officially entered the looking for a new home group. Looking to go from two story to single story. My Wife has struggled with stairs since she broke her ankle last year and all our bathrooms are upstairs. A garage is also a requirement so I can setup a home hitting area with a launch monitor. Tough buyers market when you only get 30 minutes to look at a house a have only a day or two to decide if you want to write a contract and maybe end up in a bidding war. Fortunately no hurry but a home where I can practice full swing shots will Be an improvement.
  17. Glad it was not too serious.
  18. Shotscope. The recent strokes gained metrics has it on my list. Arccos is a definite no with their yearly subscription. Also thinking about a putting mirror to help work on setup. Trying out a seemore putter which has forced a change to my setup so I want to get a mirror of some kind just to check positions.
  19. I don't think it is your perception. Probably a combination of the golf season new posters and people seeing that to be considered for a test you need to post. Could also be the hard work that is being put in by the mods to generate more forum participation.
  20. It isn't supposed to be as good as the original version. I mentioned it because it is a lower cost options that has similar performance to the ProV.
  21. You could use a round grip to eliminate you concern. Or you can use a level to make sure the putter face is perpendicular when secured in the vice and the flat side is parallel once you put on the grip
  22. I get that is the point and that is the way most companies do business today since it is too expensive to hire the expertise and the equipment. His discussion started around the fact that one of the most successful clubs in golf the Ping Eye2 were made with a single shaft and didn’t provide any options. Companies could produce a single head, shaft, and grip and produce a club that would work for most golfers and Players don’t need all the options that are provided. His point really really wasn’t about the manufacturing process.
  23. I’ve done a clock system in the past but need to rebuild that table. Need to find time to get over to MGS when they aren’t too busy so I can use the GCQuad. Would buy a Mevo+ Or a personal launch monitor but don’t have a good spot to really practice at the frequency I would like.
  24. Volvik balls aren’t bad balls. The one you asked about isnt like a prov, but it is adequate. Lots of Players on the lpga tour play Volvik and they are one of the long drive sponsors
  25. I fall on the side of it doesn’t seem to matter for me. I player 120 gram steel shafts on my irons and switched to 85 gram graphite and don’t see or feel any difference. I have x stiff in my 3 wood but played a regular before that…again don’t feel a difference. The unchanging factor in the above is me. Maybe I adapt my swing to the shaft, but I can’t tell and my launch monitor numbers seem to be pretty consistent across shafts. In its cases I feel as most shafts will be acceptable. I say most because I have swung Harry’s x-stiff graphite shafts and they just don’t work for me.
